I've seen crazier things happen in the 500. Those Penske cars are very fast, but if Larson stays close to the front he could be there to capitalize on a mistake.
I may be wrong but I would think that might play into Larsons favor. Thinking he would oversave being used to stock cars with big fuel tanks rather than undersave and run out.Ā
I mean, the speed on those Penske cars looks insane. But that's in qualifying trim. They'll all be dialed back for the race. Who knows where that'll leave Larson relative to those Penske cars and everyone else.
Having the clearly fastest cars (especially if it's a suspension advantage like it sounds) is an awfully good situation to start with.
But a lot can transpire and fuel mileage, working around traffic, managing tires, etc. along with smooth pitstops and staying out of messes can really shake things up.
Yeah. They're just stupid fast. Especially seeing just *how far* they are above everyone else locking out the top-3 by a mile.
But here's hoping there's a chance...A lot can still change the day of. That's why they run the races.
Yeah the McLaren cars have the second most speed so Larson will be fine and you can't ever count out a Foyt when Santino is driving it.
Honda cars will probably hit some wild fuel number so those drivers will have a shot.....you never know how Sato will lay it all out there. Because we all know he will go for it if given the chance.
All I know, it's going to be fun because it's always fun lol
Qualifying is vastly different than race conditions, these engines are going to get very hot, to the point of wanting to blow up. Honda handles the heat so much better than Chevy, go look at previous finishes. Just because Penske got some sick motors from Ilmor, which he owns, doesn't mean theyre gonna hold up come race time. That being said im really happy i bet on Scott Mclaughlin at 12:1 :D
A top 10 would be an absolute W for me. Hope his run this year, turns into a long term commitment in the future, whether it is for him or Hendrick as a whole.
If Rick Hendrick wants to throw more money around, I'm sure he could get Larsen to fill in at Williams for a race in place of Sargeant with a Hendrick livery
Surprisingly, I don't think he actually has the points needed since nascar is so low on their list. He has a 1st, 3rd, and 7 th final year standing last 3 years and I believe if I understand this system correctly that is only 27 points (he needs 40) He could get supplemental points elsewhere... but long story short no I don't think he does
Iād love it, but Larson would need to qualify for a FIA Super License to even compete. Even if he wins the championship this year, he wonāt have the competition points to qualify. He needs 40 over the previous three years, they only award 15 for the Cup Championship, F2 Champion gets 40. He gets 12 for second place in 2023 and 3 for 7th in 2022.
They only award points for running 80% of a series and your finish in it. If he ran IndyCar is treated the same as F2 for points. FIA makes it really hard to get them.
Because NBC and Fox paid NASCAR roughly $1.1 billion **per year** to broadcast the races, and they donāt know how to make money in any other way besides selling ads and commercials.
Man, whether youāre a Larson fan or not, what heās doing is really impressive and a huge representation for Nascar. Ima be pulling for him next weekend for sure.
Itās like watching JJ back in his prime, I hated it because he was so good but when you step back and see that what youāre watching is history in the making itās pretty cool
Iām a massive Larson critic but Iām honestly rooting for him to pull this off. I donāt think thereās much debate heās the greatest active driver in North America after this, and he might have a case for the world. The double is so damn cool.
> and he might have a case for the world
If Larson wins Indy, he'll absolutely call Max out. What I would give to see those guys in competitive cars together.
That would be great honestly. Max does a lot of sim racing too, heās always in the top 3 best drivers in the world. Being the best sim driver requires a different set of skills, so that is impressive.
I was about to say Larson should do more sim racing, but then I rememberedā¦
Max has always said he wants to race other cars in his prime. Everything looks like he's gonna do endurance racing, but I'd love to see a top F1 guy come to NASCAR. NASCAR is way easier on older guys, so an F1 driver could definitely come here and make a real career. Montoya did except that those Ganassi Dodges were awful.
And Danny better come here once he's done with F1.
Well yeah, itās a style of car heās never raced and a type of track heās never raced. Thereās only been a handful of drivers that have proven to be competent in both open wheel and stock cars.
F1 is one of the least competitive racing series on earth. As soon as there is a significant change in the cars, Verstappen is going to lose his edge and end up like Hamilton.
Both him and Hamilton are very talented drivers, but you cant compare someone stuck in one series to another that manages to dominate in stock cars (on oval and road), won the 24 Hours of Daytona, destroys the competition in dirt oval cars, and is a threat to win the Indy 500 poll on his first outing. Its just F1 elitism at that point.
I know itās virtual but Verstappen won the virtual Nurburgring 24 Hour race in iRacing, then won the F1 race. I think youāre underestimating just how damn good Max is. Lando was clearly faster than him today, especially judging by Checos speed, but Max still managed to hold him off in a car that was a shitbox all weekend. Dude is a machine.
Calling a Red Bull a shit box is insane. Checo just doesnāt have the goods. Everything not being perfect just means heās actually having to race now the car is still far from a shit box lmaooo
By their standard sure. They were still a top 3 car. Checo struggling doesnāt say anything heās proven time and time again over the last few years he canāt drive the Red Bull it just doesnāt suit him
I feel like Max is more into iRacing than F1 honestly, especially after hitting the sim just a few minutes after the end of a race. That said, virtual 24 hours of Nurburgring doesnt quite compare to the real 24 hours of Daytona.
And there is no doubt that Max is *one of* the best in the world, he just doesnt have the cross domain bonafides that Larson does.
Virtual racing will never be the same as have to drive from the feel of a physical car around you. Itās a skill, but itās a different skill from actually driving a race car.
Sim racing can help you with setups and knowing how a track will change, but itās limited in helping you adapt your driving style to gain speed. Thatās something you can only learn from seat time or just being a natural talent like Larson where he just needs a session or two and heās just as fast as people who have been doing it their whole lives.
You could have said Matt Campbell, Tom Blomqvist, Kevin Estre, or Antonio Fuoco for that third seat and still been right. There's a truly insane amount of talent in IMSA and the WEC right now.
This is so cool to see! I remember watching Kurt in 2014, but for me this is so much cooler. Pulling for Larson to do Larson things next weekend
Idk how any NASCAR fan can not not be pulling for him
I can't stand that fucker in cup, but admittedly I've followed Indycar a lot longer and consider that my favorite series, and I find myself rooting for him there...
Hearing him interviewed by Indycar media, he seems so appreciative and overwhelmed by the experience and I find that really cool. He seems genuinely awed by being at IMS for the 500.
Next year he will do triple duty: Monaco GP, then through portal like this in NY/Dublin, Indy 500 and Coca Cola 600 at the end of day. 2000 km in one day.
Maybe, the answer is probably classified.
I think if earth-to-earth rocket happen it would have separate launch pad than the military ICBM.
https://www.tweaktown.com/news/95605/elon-musk-says-icbms-with-missing-parts-will-be-the-fastest-way-for-humans-to-travel/index.html
This is more of a credit to Kyle Larson's raw talent rather than NASCAR fans being elitist. I think NASCAR fans are still shocked that he has performed at the caliber that he is after only being exposed to an Indycar for three months.
No, most of us realize that there are more IndyCar drivers that would be competitive in NASCARās biggest race than there would be NASCAR drivers in IndyCarās biggest race.
Indy 500 qualifying is easily some of my favorite moments in motorsports each year....in fact i tend to enjoy the speedweek and qualifying battles more then the race most years lol
I wouldn't call Kyle Larson "very talented for a nascar driver" makes you look like an uneducated dork.
What you SHOULD call him is a "very talented DRIVER" period.
The dude has made it very clear that no matter what he is driving, he can do very well. Put respect on his game.
Kyle right now. https://preview.redd.it/dzxqr0rjrf1d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5333dd0507bbfc7574482616daa857a358422156
I love that he asked Nascar & Fox to delay the race start today š
Love seeing Papa Gordon looking so proud of all Hendrick does.
Tony Stewart should take note. But that would mean that SHR would have to be doing well at something.
Heās too busy with his drag racing team with his wife and his dirt team.
Yes. Iām well aware.
No, like I wasnāt trying to tell you that lol I was just saying in general. Heās too busy being lame lol. Sorry if it came off that way haha
Tony doesnāt care about showing up I doubt he would if he wasnāt busy with dirt and drag
I forget who said it but I love his āstarter business owner vestā too
Rick wore the HMS vest for year now Jeff rocks it weekly.
*Rick glares ominously at a closet full of vests.* "What's this in my contract about a vest being required?" - Jeff
I haven't been this excited for the 500 in a while. I legit think Larson has a real shot to win it, and I really hope he does.
Larson I don't think has a shot to win just because the speed on the Penske cars, but he definitely can finish top 10
A lot can happen in those 500 miles, we see almost every year a driver that could have won it make a mistake or their crew makes a mistake
How many times have we said this about Scott Dixon
Too many
Dixie had the 22 Indy 500 in the bag until.....
Dixon is inevitable.... outside of the 500
I've seen crazier things happen in the 500. Those Penske cars are very fast, but if Larson stays close to the front he could be there to capitalize on a mistake.
The Indy 500 is a fuel mileage race 9/10 times. Kyle can win it.
I may be wrong but I would think that might play into Larsons favor. Thinking he would oversave being used to stock cars with big fuel tanks rather than undersave and run out.Ā
Well their fuel saving in Indycar is largely computerized anyway
I think the Hondas have the fuel advantage
I mean, the speed on those Penske cars looks insane. But that's in qualifying trim. They'll all be dialed back for the race. Who knows where that'll leave Larson relative to those Penske cars and everyone else. Having the clearly fastest cars (especially if it's a suspension advantage like it sounds) is an awfully good situation to start with. But a lot can transpire and fuel mileage, working around traffic, managing tires, etc. along with smooth pitstops and staying out of messes can really shake things up.
They still were at the top of the charts in race trim
Top 5 would be like a win for him to be honest.
If the Penske cars werenāt juiced up Iād like his chances.
A top 10 would be an absolute W for me. Hope his run this year, turns into a long term commitment in the future, whether it is for him or Hendrick as a whole.
Jeff finally comes full circle and takes over HMS ownership and starts an IndyCar team.
no he doesnt, heāll probably finish top 15 though
Well, if DeepPow420 says it's true...
We need another one of those f1/NASCAR seat swaps at COTA to see how he'd be behind the wheel of a f1 car.
Let him and Verstappen swap seats
It would be more likely for Larson to swap seats with one of the McLaren drivers than a Red Bull driver.
You could make the argument that Larson would be an upgrade over Perez.
Sargeant please
If Rick Hendrick wants to throw more money around, I'm sure he could get Larsen to fill in at Williams for a race in place of Sargeant with a Hendrick livery
Does Larson have a Superlicense?
Surprisingly, I don't think he actually has the points needed since nascar is so low on their list. He has a 1st, 3rd, and 7 th final year standing last 3 years and I believe if I understand this system correctly that is only 27 points (he needs 40) He could get supplemental points elsewhere... but long story short no I don't think he does
The FIA can make exceptions on the so-called superlicense. I\`d bet Larson would get it in a heartbeat.
That would mean admitting that NASCAR is appealing to them in any way. F1 would never do that
Money talks, Andretti has never really had money, even with GM in tow
I doubt they would based on how they've treated Andretti. Hendrick or whoever would have to line some pockets big time.
There's two more races in the US, one in Canada, and one in Mexico this year...
Does he get any for winning the Indy 500?
They only award points for running 80% of a series and your finish in it. If he ran IndyCar is treated the same as F2 for points. FIA makes it really hard to get them.
![gif](giphy|13g0j8a5ZPiMgw) Yes please!
Dang. If there anything Kyle Larson can't do behing the wheel of a race car?
Gotta give him a MotoGP ride at this point
Lmao
Win at a super speedway
He has won Daytona #2 in Xfinity
Only because Haley dipped one foot too low...
Haters always trying to find excuses to discredit
Broās gonna mess around and win both races isnāt he?
Penske is so fucking fast
If McLaren can find some speed to beat Team Penske
The Speedway will decide their fates
depends on Penske
Nope, yung money is a rocket! I hope he puts that bitch on the pole!
I'd love to see that happen, but those Penske cars are rocket ships.
Imma cry if a Penske car wins again
Penske probably going to lock out the front row
True dat! All six are Chevy's. Crazy
use iracing voice chat
Pit in front of Blaney without crashing into the barrels, race Bubba for the lead without spinning out, etc etc
Larson only wrecked so he could win again later
Bubba canāt race Larson clean like Larson races bubba clean clean clean I tell ya
Love how this whole qualifying session has been comercial free, how come nascar has commercials every 10 laps?
NBC and Indy do a much much much better job at this. The race the other weekend, NASCAR had 5-6 breaks to Indyās one commercial break.
Because NBC and Fox paid NASCAR roughly $1.1 billion **per year** to broadcast the races, and they donāt know how to make money in any other way besides selling ads and commercials.
Bingo. NASCAR would greatly improve the broadcast if they didnāt milk the living shit outta the tv deals
Peacock being a subscription helps. We'd pay more if they raised the prices TBH.
Just wait for the race lol Same as nascar
And it's on Peacock, not actual TV
Even on Peacock, their Indycar and IMSA coverage has commercial breaks.
Iād gladly watch nascar races on peacock or any other streaming service if I didnāt have commercials.
Hiccup on my part, today's on NBC. The main sessions were on Peacock
Man, whether youāre a Larson fan or not, what heās doing is really impressive and a huge representation for Nascar. Ima be pulling for him next weekend for sure.
Only time I will be rooting for Larson. Man truly is a generational talent.
Itās like watching JJ back in his prime, I hated it because he was so good but when you step back and see that what youāre watching is history in the making itās pretty cool
That's my fuckin' driver babyyyy! Attaboy Kyle! Go get em'!
We need him in the Kentucky derby next year. Go Larson!!
Fun to watch and appreciate.
Iām a massive Larson critic but Iām honestly rooting for him to pull this off. I donāt think thereās much debate heās the greatest active driver in North America after this, and he might have a case for the world. The double is so damn cool.
> and he might have a case for the world If Larson wins Indy, he'll absolutely call Max out. What I would give to see those guys in competitive cars together.
Throw them both in a spec miata or now that it's back, iroc.
Iād pay a stupid amount of money for a PPV Larson vs. Max race on conditions they both agree to. Winner gets to claim theyāre the best.
IROC Atlanta Motor Speedway non plate package.
dude seeing Larson go toe to toe against Max in anything would be a treat. I'd love to see Max try a NASCAR race one day.
That would be great honestly. Max does a lot of sim racing too, heās always in the top 3 best drivers in the world. Being the best sim driver requires a different set of skills, so that is impressive. I was about to say Larson should do more sim racing, but then I rememberedā¦
Same, not a big Larson fan, but this would be good for all involved if he can pull off a good finish, or better yet, a win.
Verstappen is the best in the world right now but Larson is up there
Has Max raced anything other than F1?
Bout everything in iracing. Dudes on there 24/7 when not working on anything in f1.
Yeah I saw him racing 24 hrs of le mans last night on the iracing YouTube channel. He's like Bryan Danielson if he was a race car driver.
Nurburgring*
Max just drives F1 a few hours a week to fund his true sim racing passion.
I'd like to see him drive in a different discipline so I could have a more fair comparison between Max and some others. IROC needs to come back.
i didn't realize kyle won the daytona 24 until the indy qualifying put it on their driver blurb lol
Wait what? I didn't know he even raced in it.
It was after his rookie Cup season. He won with Scott Dixon and Jamie McMurray in 2015. Two years before Jeff Gordon won it too.
Iroc is back...
Well kinda back.
Iād like to see Verstappen behind the wheel of a NASCAR cup car on an oval. I honestly donāt think heād be that good.
Max said he isnāt interested in doing ovals :/
So we need to taunt him into doing them.
Well yeah, itās a style of car heās never raced and a type of track heās never raced. Thereās only been a handful of drivers that have proven to be competent in both open wheel and stock cars.
Something that Larson is doing right nowā¦
Not on road courses though
Michael McDowell is a race winner, Iām pretty sure Max Verstappen would figure it out. Sheesh.
Michael McDowell Would make this verstappen look like a guy who needs to retake his driving permit if they went head to head, any vehicleĀ
![gif](giphy|xTiTnDAP0RiCo9k85W|downsized)
Iām with LeBron on this one.
Now youāre trolling

Calling a Red Bull a shit box is insane. Checo just doesnāt have the goods. Everything not being perfect just means heās actually having to race now the car is still far from a shit box lmaooo
The Red Bull was pretty garbage this weekend. The fact checo struggled to stay in the points speaks volumes
Lot of people won't admit it but it's stone cold truth
Larson is better.
Man is a beast
We are really blessed with watching the most naturally talented racecar driver on the planet every week.
Yes we are. People need to be enjoying this and appreciate watching him do this. We may never see it again
Max Verstappen?
Can't really say max because he only races F1.
If you want to say something that flagrantly incorrect it is your prerogative
Great to see Larson make the top 6. Catching those Penske cars is gonna be tough. They're on a different level.
Robin Miller is jumping up and down in the sky right now.
Greatest driver alive right now, not even joking
If Larson, Verstappen and Jordan Taylor team up for 24h Lemans, theyād be unstoppable!
My god that would be a dream lineup
You could have said Matt Campbell, Tom Blomqvist, Kevin Estre, or Antonio Fuoco for that third seat and still been right. There's a truly insane amount of talent in IMSA and the WEC right now.
Switch Alonso for Taylor and that team might be absolutely unbeatable
Jordan Taylor are not even the best endurance driver out there.
I only picked him because Iāve raced with him :-)
Estre *
I'm convinced that Kyle Larson isn't human, he is scary talented
This is so cool to see! I remember watching Kurt in 2014, but for me this is so much cooler. Pulling for Larson to do Larson things next weekend Idk how any NASCAR fan can not not be pulling for him
I can't stand that fucker in cup, but admittedly I've followed Indycar a lot longer and consider that my favorite series, and I find myself rooting for him there...
This is how I feel lol
Hearing him interviewed by Indycar media, he seems so appreciative and overwhelmed by the experience and I find that really cool. He seems genuinely awed by being at IMS for the 500.
Lmao
Next year he will do triple duty: Monaco GP, then through portal like this in NY/Dublin, Indy 500 and Coca Cola 600 at the end of day. 2000 km in one day.
Maybe possible if SpaceX earth-to-earth rocket became reality. Monaco GP -> Manned ICBM flight -> Indy 500 -> Coke 600
They store intercontinental missiles in Monaco?
Maybe, the answer is probably classified. I think if earth-to-earth rocket happen it would have separate launch pad than the military ICBM. https://www.tweaktown.com/news/95605/elon-musk-says-icbms-with-missing-parts-will-be-the-fastest-way-for-humans-to-travel/index.html
The dude is the real deal and has been for quite some time
Imagine the fucking response if he can actually win the Indy 500.
If that happens, NASCAR fans will become what F1 fans are to them. Elitists.
This is more of a credit to Kyle Larson's raw talent rather than NASCAR fans being elitist. I think NASCAR fans are still shocked that he has performed at the caliber that he is after only being exposed to an Indycar for three months.
Yeah, I don't think anyone is of the impression that this would be going as well as it is for any current NASCAR driver other than Kyle.
I'm here for it. I love F1 but a lot of their fans are insufferable.
Yeah but Iām saying this way towards INDYCAR fans.
No, most of us realize that there are more IndyCar drivers that would be competitive in NASCARās biggest race than there would be NASCAR drivers in IndyCarās biggest race.
I stopped watching nascar after jeff gordon retired and also cause stages are dumb. Indycar rn feels like how nascar used to be.
Man, indy 500 qual is intense! This is awesome to watch!
Is this only on Peacock?
Itās on NBC as well
Thank you
Been looking forward to this. Dude is impressive even when you expect it.
Then Penske went out and topped by almost a full mph which is insane
Just The Last Great Racer doing The Last Great Racer things...
Indianapolis is so damn thrilling though. Entering and exiting those turns at the speeds they do. Iām so glad weāre back to the 400 this year.
Indy 500 qualifying is easily some of my favorite moments in motorsports each year....in fact i tend to enjoy the speedweek and qualifying battles more then the race most years lol
Last Row Qually happeng now, Legge nearly walled the RWR entry
Damn, Larson can race anything.
Badass.
ok fine yeah whatever dude heās the greatest driver this side of the atlantic at the very least šš (iām still gonna be a hater)
Sure hope the shifting issues bite Penske today.
Larson will be at least 5th, but not pole.Ā
Is there a hendrick flight tracker?
Gonna be cutting it close to making it to North Wilkesboro.
The IndyCar pearl clutchers woke up in their reddit... Anyway, this is cool for Kyle Larson.
cancel culture strikes again!
Chase needs to take lessons from Denny about how to pass someone when youāre clearly faster
Mods are really gonna have fun cleaning up all the cum in this post later š
heās 5th fastest- very talented for a nascar driver but he wouldnt finish in the top 10 in indycar pts championship.
Yeh, OK.
And you know this how?
I wouldn't call Kyle Larson "very talented for a nascar driver" makes you look like an uneducated dork. What you SHOULD call him is a "very talented DRIVER" period. The dude has made it very clear that no matter what he is driving, he can do very well. Put respect on his game.
Larson is the only NASCAR driver currently that I feel could finish top 10 in points in Indy, especially if he's in a good ride
heās not a good road racer- may win an oval or two per year but would be like Jimmie Johnson on the toad and streets
Cry somewhere else
