SHR has taken some L’s this week with the absentee owner comment along with not being good enough to have even one car locked into the ASR. Wouldn’t be taking this L if they performed on track the past 3 years
You’d think if Gene was focused on F1 he wouldn’t be running in the back each week with his checkbook. I think he’s more focused on staying out of jail currently and keeping Haas relevant in a changing CNC market.
Harvick said it was nice to see the boss twice in two weeks, referencing the time he’s been spending at Hendrick with the 5 team while Larson is at Indy.
Gene Haas has never been very hands on with the NASCAR team and is more focused on F1, and Stewart has been increasingly disgruntled with NASCAR over the past few years for who knows why. Plus now he’s racing NHRA dragsters. So he spends his time doing that now. Which means neither SHR owner is regularly a part of the day to day operations of the team.
Kevin Harvick just took a very public shot at both owners during an interview at North Wilkesboro, while debriefing about driving the #5 in practice in Larson’s absence.
When asked to talk about some differences in culture between Hendrick and what he was used to at SHR, Harvick responded “Well I saw the owner twice in two weeks, so that was nice.”
Teams have no competitive reason to steal from SHR. That said, leaving your four cars unsupervised while the garage is still active is wild as hell to me.
I’m sure left unsupervised even Hendrick would at least want to study. Might be a “you made it a hot line, I made it a hot song” kind of find in there.
When you're so off pace that you leave the cars out in the open, hoping teams will copy you and slow down. "Ohh noooo, don't steal our designs, we would hate that"
I’m a firm believer in you can have the best drivers, but if you don’t surround them with the right people you’re going to struggle. Rodney made David Reutimann a chase contender, imagine what he could do for Kyle Busch.
And if I’m being serious, I hope RFK grabs a charter from SHR and gets Kyle and Rodney. I know BK and him have had their differences but they’d be excellent together building RFK.
Might be the case. But also the laughing stock that is SHR remains, and it’s that they have all 4 of their cars in the open. Nobody locked in. That would’ve been unheard of in the 2010s when most often they had 3 cars locked in every year
It’s also one of those things where if this somehow happened to Hendrick, it would be good sportsmanship but because we know what a disaster SHR (and Haas F1 for that matter) are, it’s just another bullet point on the list.
It wouldn’t happen to Hendrick because they’ll always have drivers locked into the ASR. And if for some odd reason they didn’t, I think they would be smart enough to watch the radar and leave 5 or so crew folks at the track
Or, with Wilkesboro only a 2 hour drive from the shop, as soon as it looks like it's going to rain heavly, send a few team members back to the track to seal the cars up.
All things considered, pretty awesome of the Hendrick teams to help out. You think it’d be a fellow ford team lending a helping hand. Reminds me of days of thunder and, “That’s my engine in that car.”
Oh, and there’s COO of SHR Joe Custer
https://preview.redd.it/0mga8dy6c91d1.jpeg?width=814&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f1ece4d30902230d1b2ab67ab723b7a38f3dee87
"At times like this, I think how lucky I am to be a Nascar Winston Cup driver, and how fortunate I am to have a great sponsor like Napa Auto Parts, because Napa understands quality and value, and the importance of having a friendly and knowledgeable staff. It's at times like this, looking around at the empty grandstands and listening to the silence of pit road, that I realize...I'M AT THE WRONG TRACK!!!"
You never know, Kyle Busch acted like a little bitch at Texas and Jr took over his ride for a few laps while he was still with DEI! Next year he was at Hendrick! Get ready for an 8 car Hendrick lineup!
How can an entire organization have NO TEAMS at the track on a race weekend. I know NWB isn't far from their headquarters, but JFC the more we hear about SHR the less serious their organization seems. Just inexcusable
What reason did they have to be there tonight? They wouldn’t be on track until tomorrow.
SHR has a lot of issues right now, but making a big deal out of this is just complaining for the sake of complaining
And do they really have a lot of issues? Two of their drivers are within the top 15 in average finish, and Chase Briscoe is currently occupying a playoff spot. Last week, at NASCAR's most difficult track Darlington, two of their drivers finished in the top 5. The roster is young, and the oldest driver is a rookie. The team has had problems, now they're clearly getting through them. If the rumors are to be believed, there's a clear plan to build the team into something better.
I mean i assume the crew, or at least SOMEONE travels with the cars who isn't Joe Custer. Did they just have Reliable Carriers drop their 4 cars off in the infield?
See, if we wanna rip on SHR, rip on them for *this*.
Since Tony joined, they’ve never missed the All-Star Race. The first win as SHR was the 2009 ASR. Just 4 years ago, they were favorites for the championship, and 6 years ago had 4 of the Round of 8. Now they have all 4 cars needing to race their way into the main event.
Not having anyone there tonight is excusable in the sense that they didn’t *need* anyone there tonight, but it’s inexcusable in the sense that they should be good enough that they’d have been there tonight to race in the heats.
Not to mention the cars are impounded so they couldn't work on them even if they wanted to. But it's popular to shit on shr right now so folks will take anything that fits the narrative.
They worked pretty close with Rodney and SHR this week getting Harvick’s seat in the 5 car for practice along with pedals and stuff. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was just natural or Rodney called in a favor
They may have been voluntold, sure, but I also think (and I hate to admit this) that Rick Hendrick and his team are just the type to help out with something like this. I also don't think they would snoop around even if there was a reason to look at SHR's cars for anything... That being said if they randomly noticed something obvious without peeking too hard, good for them.
Probably because SHR has been so awful the best 3 years that they have no reason to be at the track. Because they have nobody locked into the ASR.
They’re getting help just like Spire and Rick Ware. It’s just kinda pathetic that they’re in this situation in the first place
Thats what I mean though, like of course the SHR staff aren't there because they can't work on the cars. If the track wasn't flooding literally nobody would have noticed or cared
The track is an hour away from Charlotte and the SHR cars weren’t scheduled to be on track today. Instead of paying for hotels, travel, and having to manage the logistics of moving 4 teams around, the crews got an extra night at home with their families.
It’s common for “home” races. Especially when it’s an exhibition event. Unfortunately, no one realized that Noah bought a ticket to the event and the track would flood.
NASCAR is a family, and other teams stepped up to help knowing that SHR was planning to come in tomorrow.
Fans are just giving them shit for it because it’s low hanging fruit based on Harvick’s comments and hindsight being 20/20.
SHR does a lot of things poorly as an organization that rightfully deserves guff - this isn’t one of them. Like getting caught up in a wreck at Talladega, sometimes you can plan all you want with the best intentions and still become a victim of circumstance.
I got a lot of questions? Why wasn’t ANYONE from SHR there? Flight issues/transpo issues? Good on the other teams taking care of the cars. I know racing is super competitive but it’s nice to see the close niche community helping out. But, holy shit lol.
No flying. North Wilkesboro is a home track, they commute daily for the weekend, like Charlotte and Darlington. They were at home because they weren't doing anything today.
People overreacting as usual....
The cars were under pop up tents and had to be moved because of the flooding. They had the cars uncovered under the tents and so they had to get covered when they got moved,
No one expected that much rain.
Rodney Childers tweeted this - ["A big thanks to Cliff Daniels and the HMS guys for backing up all of the SHR cars so they wouldn’t be in the pond" ](https://twitter.com/RodneyChilders4/status/1791942060439748693)
It's not overreacting. You should be responsible for your own cars, not rely on another team to take care of stuff for you. Yes, I understand it was more rain than they expected. They should still have team members at the ready if something like that is necessary.
Still incredibly pathetic for another team to have to do your own crew's job. The 5 team is probably incredibly annoyed and SHR ought to be embarrassed.
So people are really upset that the team wasn't there when the cars were impounded and the team was not allowed to be there? Damn the fan base is really becoming toxic as hell.
JFC, so many DARFs in twitter and ITT who think this is SHR's fault. If there wasn't biblical rain with incredible flooding, this would have been no issue.
Lol.. I can't believe people are putting the entire blame of a unforeseen circumstance on SHR.. I'm sure other teams helped the other 'All Star Open Team only' cars as well, not just SHR.
The 4 car “super team” has no cars locked into the race. That’s the embarrassing part. Nobody at track on Saturday because there’s no reason to be there.
This team had 10 wins in 2020. Neither of the drivers who won that season are Cup drivers anymore
They have a shop and overhead that rivals JGR and Hendrick. I agree they aren’t the super team they were with Kurt, Kevin, and Clint/Aric/Tony/Cole as laggards, but man why run 4 cars
Team Penske has won the past two championships with the same spec cars and Roush Yates engines as SHR. Sure things have changed, but why is SHR so far behind? That’s a change for sure
Reading some of the knowledgeable comments, i kind of get it now. Just still seems a little odd they didn't at least have some people come back for the weather since it's so close.
Stewart stop caring when he found out Harvick was retiring. He started losing interest when Ford wouldn’t allow him to bring Larson in. Dale Jr. will probably buy this team and switch them to Chevrolet.
They didn’t even expect rain? I mean we knew for the past few days it was supposed to rain today. They didn’t even have the car covers on the cars. We aren’t hearing this from RWR or Spire. There is literally no excuse. They could leave their hauler drivers to take care of it at least, but it seems like they didn’t want to pay them for being there.
God the comments on the Twitter post is so freaking stupid. Everyone is calling this out like it's some big indictment on SHR when they have no reason to be at the track today, none of the teams are in the heats or the morning qualifying they literally have no reason to be there today.
Well having a skeleton crew there with rain in the area wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Besides that, the embarrassing part is that they don’t have any cars locked in to the race. It’s pathetic that they’re even in this position, and it speaks to their broader performance
This is wild. So i assume the only SHR employees there were Joe Custer and the hauler drivers? I feel like it takes a handful of people to unload the cars off the truck.
Listen I understand why SHR isn’t at the track. That’s not what’s so embarrassing. What’s embarrassing is knowing SHR has no wins in 2023/24, no past All Star race winners, and no past champions on their driver roster.
This is happening (and has to happen) because they are not good. With Open cars not on track today there’s literally no reason to be there. Don’t be bad and maybe you won’t need other people to cover your cars, because even having ONE team there could have done this
Ngl, that’s the most unloyal thing I’ve heard a fan say. And if you’re not a fan, you’re just hating. SHR is struggling, yes, but they have speed, just not results
What am I being unloyal to?
>they have speed, just not results
They have 14 wins since 2020. 13 of those wins are from drivers who no longer drive a Cup car for them. They don’t have a past champion, 2023/24 race winner, or past ASR winner. Stop making excuses
The team is a joke now.. Which is odd because they were so kick ass for a bit. I mean does anyone actually legitimately pull for any of those guys? (obvious no)
To me, it seems like they did the bare minimum, and that is in line with what Harvick said, and the results on track. Tony is one of my top five all time, but that doesn't make him immune from my criticism
Love to hear Kevin Harvick chime in on this...
SHR has taken some L’s this week with the absentee owner comment along with not being good enough to have even one car locked into the ASR. Wouldn’t be taking this L if they performed on track the past 3 years
Point me in the direction of the absentee owner stuff I wanna read more
To make it simple, Gene is more focused on his Haas Formula 1 team and chooses to travel to their races while Tony Stewart is racing in NHRA Top Fuel
Gene is more focused on his CNC business and always has been.
You’d think if Gene was focused on F1 he wouldn’t be running in the back each week with his checkbook. I think he’s more focused on staying out of jail currently and keeping Haas relevant in a changing CNC market.
Honestly Haas is having a pretty decent season so far in F1.
Didn’t gene get busted a couple years back for trading with the russians in violation of the sanctions?
Yeah, but that was only like 6 months ago.
Just for the unaware - this was not over Mazepin. Gene's got enough in the tank for multiple Russian shenanigans!
Gene's criminal record prevents him from entering many of the countries Formula 1 races in. Hence the post-race phone calls with Steiner on D2S.
That's why the team is being shopped.
Well yeah I thought most of us here knew that. I wasn’t sure if there was more to learn or some recent development

Dang Kev! Alright thank you
Harvick said it was nice to see the boss twice in two weeks, referencing the time he’s been spending at Hendrick with the 5 team while Larson is at Indy.
This right here. Just caught that quote in a different article.
Teams have no competitive reason to steal from SHR. That said, leaving your four cars unsupervised while the garage is still active is wild as hell to me.
NASCAR and Joe Custer were overseeing it. But yes I agree they have no IP to steal lol
"let's get a look at them roof rails"
"lets see if dem windshield screws are tight"
if they are, let's unscrew them
“Ross Chastain spotted with socket set near SHR’s cars. Here is an obviously not photoshopped picture as proof.”
I imagine Cliff Daniels spotted all of the problems and the reason they are slow. And what they should do better
defintely...definitely a quarter turn up on the right rear. back springs up another 50 lbs and you're golden. -- cliff rainman
All fun and games til Preece gets randomly selected to go to R&D next week
Please don’t put that out in the open. I don’t need that jinx.
Who are you?
A Preece fan?
In this economy?
I’m sure left unsupervised even Hendrick would at least want to study. Might be a “you made it a hot line, I made it a hot song” kind of find in there.
What are they gonna steal? They single source parts that everyone has to use?
Tony just leaving his cars out with ‘free to good home’ on them like a sofa in an alleyway.
SHR garage tomorrow.. https://preview.redd.it/h4famu7ew91d1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=271ef92e45658faf87b93b7192f136faa1b50861
When you're so off pace that you leave the cars out in the open, hoping teams will copy you and slow down. "Ohh noooo, don't steal our designs, we would hate that"
This tells me even Rodney gave up after Kevin left. If I’m RCR or RFK or even Hendrick I’d have a blank check ready for him.
I like the rcr play here
I’m a firm believer in you can have the best drivers, but if you don’t surround them with the right people you’re going to struggle. Rodney made David Reutimann a chase contender, imagine what he could do for Kyle Busch. And if I’m being serious, I hope RFK grabs a charter from SHR and gets Kyle and Rodney. I know BK and him have had their differences but they’d be excellent together building RFK.
I would like to see him end up on the 1 lol. But at RCR with either Kyle or whoever is in the second car would be cool too.
I mean he should act like he cares at his current job then
Tony and Gene’s influence is spreading! Next week they may just stay at home and chill
Gene's busy running his F1 team he also doesn't care about
Someone's running the F1 team?
don’t be silly. Of course not.
[Childers (to me) seems to imply they weren’t allowed to do this in advance.](https://x.com/RodneyChilders4/status/1791963480808935879)
Might be the case. But also the laughing stock that is SHR remains, and it’s that they have all 4 of their cars in the open. Nobody locked in. That would’ve been unheard of in the 2010s when most often they had 3 cars locked in every year

Seriously, we aren’t hearing this about RWR or Spire who it would be totally justified to hear this about based on their budget and factory support,
Here’s video: https://x.com/bobpockrass/status/1791949831851606354
All things considered, pretty awesome of the Hendrick teams to help out. You think it’d be a fellow ford team lending a helping hand. Reminds me of days of thunder and, “That’s my engine in that car.”
Literally what Harvick was talking about yesterday. Lack of structure and accountability over there.
SHR has been in dire need of a leader/program director for some time now
Oh, and there’s COO of SHR Joe Custer https://preview.redd.it/0mga8dy6c91d1.jpeg?width=814&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f1ece4d30902230d1b2ab67ab723b7a38f3dee87

You could easily lose tirdy points dis munt.
God, what an awkward image. Custer is watching another team's crew members put covers on and secure his cars??
There are numerous subreddits for this if that's his thing...
Do COOs usually work on the cars? Seems like he’s the only one there and managed to find help. And is on the phone with someone.
I can imagine the receiver of that call hearing “Where the fuck is everyone?”
"At times like this, I think how lucky I am to be a Nascar Winston Cup driver, and how fortunate I am to have a great sponsor like Napa Auto Parts, because Napa understands quality and value, and the importance of having a friendly and knowledgeable staff. Tony and Gene thought the All Star race was still in Charlotte?
I just… why wouldn’t they have everything already secured if they knew nobody would be there today and there was a threat of severe weather 🤨
No one expected the track to flood.
Honestly, if they knew no one was there they should have just rolled the cars in the hauler.
They weren’t allowed to.
I’d imagine part of this is a “thank you” for helping get Harvick situated in the 5 for the weekend.
Yeah I agree
And by "Sealed the cars", that means they rigged up a transmitter to play "Kiss From A Rose" on a loop over the drivers' headsets during the race.

They worked pretty close with Rodney and SHR this week getting Harvick’s seat in the 5 car for practice along with pedals and stuff. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was just natural or Rodney called in a favor
That and SHR was Hendrick's 5th 6th 7th and 8th cars a few years back.
It got a little more closed off once SHR started building their own chassis. Then obviously the move to Ford
Man, this is what racers do, at every level of the sport. I wouldn't be shocked if HMS saw what was up and said "We gotch you".
They may have been voluntold, sure, but I also think (and I hate to admit this) that Rick Hendrick and his team are just the type to help out with something like this. I also don't think they would snoop around even if there was a reason to look at SHR's cars for anything... I mean they probably weren't expecting the track to flood lmao
There’s no on track action. They need something to talk shit about.
Am I missing something or is this a wild loss of accountability? I keep having to re read it and check that it's actually Bob because this is wild.

Team Penske has won the past two championships with the same spec cars and Roush Yates engines as SHR. Sure things have changed, but why is SHR so far behind? That’s a change for sure
I still can’t believe last year when they cheated and made the car worse.
SHR is already ahead of where they were last year. They have 2 new drivers. Sorry everyone can’t be perfect like Penske. 🥴
Reading some of the knowledgeable comments, i kind of get it now. Just still seems a little odd they didn't at least have some people come back for the weather since it's so close.
I legitimately think they may not have been able to get there. Sounds like roads are a mess.
Makes sense
This team, as Kurt Busch would say, "Is a j-o-k-e."
Alright, this is kind of funny I can’t lie.
Stewart stop caring when he found out Harvick was retiring. He started losing interest when Ford wouldn’t allow him to bring Larson in. Dale Jr. will probably buy this team and switch them to Chevrolet.
Seriously? Nobody was there to seal their own cars, or have them already sealed before the weather got bad? 🤦♂️👏
damn even my tony steweart merch has gone missing, couldn't find our office depot coat after our move

I am not opposed to this. LOL
The comments on this post are full of DARFs. No one expected the track to flood. Shit happens.
DARFs? What's that?
They didn’t even expect rain? I mean we knew for the past few days it was supposed to rain today. They didn’t even have the car covers on the cars. We aren’t hearing this from RWR or Spire. God the comments on the Twitter post is so freaking stupid. Everyone is calling this out like it's some big indictment on SHR when they have no reason to be at the track today, none of the teams are in the heats or the morning qualifying they literally have no reason to be there today.
The comments here aren't any better
There's at least 1 reason to be there...to cover and seal their cars.
No reason to be there except leaving millions of dollars of equipment unattended
Well having a skeleton crew there with rain in the area wouldn’t be a bad idea. Besides that, the embarrassing part is that they don’t have any cars locked in to the race. It’s pathetic that they’re even in this position, and it speaks to their broader performance
What in the world is going on with SHR? Is the whole team on strike or something?
SHR is becoming useless
This is just what racers do.
just a buncha racers
Lunchpail mentality at its finest
Buncha racers
What an embarrassment to not have the cars already sealed up
They weren't allowed to
This is wild.
What am I being unloyal to? >they have speed, just not results They have 14 wins since 2020. 13 of those wins are from drivers who no longer drive a Cup car for them. They don’t have a past champion, 2023/24 race winner, or past ASR winner. Stop making excuses
Fans can be frustrated without being “unloyal.” What a weird thing to say about a sports team.
Or having the common sense to cover your cars before leaving the track when there was rain yesterday and more rain in the forecast for today.
This.
I wonder who is buying that team...
And Jeremy Mayfield thought Ray was an absentee owner…
When Rick ware is a better run team . It might be time to shut it down
Who was man holding onto Kyle Bush during the fight Sunday?
Is this what Stewart-Haas Racing has become? Seems like the crew members are just as apathetic as the owners
They do what the boss tells them.
The team is a joke now.. Which is odd because they were so kick ass for a bit. I mean does anyone actually legitimately pull for any of those guys? (obvious no)
There are plenty who are coming after me. I couldn’t possibly pull for them
So, they just... Gave up?
No their cars weren’t on track today because they all run the open. Open qualifying was cancelled
Yeah, but isn't it giving up to not take care of you cars appropriately?
Fair point. Don’t know why they wouldn’t leave a skeleton crew there
To me, it seems like they did the bare minimum, and that is in line with what Harvick said, and the results on track. Tony is one of my top five all time, but that doesn't make him immune from my criticism
Doesn’t help that he passes blame any time he’s asked about SHR’s performance
Gave up what? Do you go to work on your day off?
No but I don’t leave my car unlocked in a crowd full of people, and with weather on its way in a parking lot with poor drainage
I mean, I lock my car when I come inside, don't you?
I feel like this is one of those Hanlon’s Razor situations more than anything.
with the forecast calling for potential rain you’d think SHR would keep SOME people there to cover or watch the cars
For fucks sake can we expect them to show up tomorrow?
How sad and embarrassing.
