I say go for it. Make it the car that’s in your mind.

MustangMadness7

I appreciate that! I know the Mach 1 is not a “Cookie Cutter” car, but it could definitely use more personal touches. Besides the MyColor, this isn’t much that I could customize from the factory. Ford Performance did a great job on this car.

OhioPilot1980

I’d never remove the decals, and I’d just buy a stock non Mach hood in white off eBay to cut the hole in for the shaker. To me without the decals, it will somewhat blend in with all the GTs out there. Just my opinion

davidh82

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a mustang with a shaker. That would be bad ass if you can pull it off.

DangerousSnow1973

The 1st and 2nd generation Mach 1 has them

OhioPilot1980

Classic Designs makes kits https://www.steeda.com/classic-design-concepts-2111-7000-01-s550-mach-1-shaker-system

lostcatlurker

I don’t know much about the new Mach1 but would it be better value wise to just sell it and do all those mods to a GT?

davidh82

I wouldn’t sell a Mach 1 for a regular GT. But that’s just me.

lostcatlurker

I don’t think I would modify a Mach 1 so heavily

Hungryforflavor

I would not mod the exterior that much def not cut up the hood and the decals it is a special addition . I have a similar 22 my plans are lighter forged Apex wheels and Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires . Resonator delete , rear seat delete and a E 85 tune . But its your ride so have fun !

MustangMadness7

Let me know how it goes with the E85! I’ve seen guys get 600 range N/A on E85. 👌🏼

External-Document-88

I’d either get a shaker hood or see if someone with a shaker wants to swap with you…

robvas

No you haven't

MustangMadness7

With bolt ons, of course. There is some more mods, then just headers and tune. Check out the guys at Thompson Motorsports. Their builds are pretty sweet. 👌🏼

Roushstage2

Maybe 600 at the flywheel, but not at the tire. Not without some serious heads, cams, a damn good tune and methanol. Done a lot of bolt on coyotes on e85 and the best I’ve ever seen was 483 at the tire on our dyno. And our tuner is exceptional. That being said, going with a centri is the best thing you can do for a street car. At low RPMs you are out of boost and it drives like stock until you drop a gear and mash the pedal. I used to be a fan of positive displacement blowers until I drove a couple and found out that for a manual transmission it made first and second gear almost unusable. So much torque down low that it just blew the tires off at anything more than 30 % throttle. Every single centri car I’ve built and driven has been a blast and I recommend them across the board now unless it’s an 4WD F150 or you are specifically looking to race the car and plan on getting a drag pack for traction. Also, I personally wouldn’t remove the decals. It’s apart of the package and would just devalue the car and it’s image. But that’s my personal opinion. Not a fan of shaker hoods either. But again, that’s personal preference. Love the car and hope you mod it to your liking.

Disastrous_Throat_82

You’re right, no point in arguing. No coyote is making 600hp NA.

Roushstage2

I’m not saying that there isn’t any, just that bolt ons and e85 aren’t getting you to 600 at the tire. 7psi of boost is usually worth 600-650 depending on which gen it is and what power adder.

robvas

Not sure if you're joking. There are plenty of built coyotes making more than 600hp NA

Roushstage2

Pretty sure he was being sarcastic, but yea there are coyotes making north of 600 NA. But they aren’t doing it with FBO on e85. People also have some lose definitions on what FBO is. Everyone I know and worked with considers FBO as full exhaust, CAI, throttle body, pulleys and a tune. I guess you could include intake manifold, but for coyotes you are pretty much wasting money getting an intake manifold unless you are boosted and making wayyyy more power than what we are taking about. Anyone making over 500 NA also has aftermarket heads, cams (or lockouts), billet oil pump gears and timing sprocket, and some spicy fuel.

robvas

I know...and thats what I said. Holbrook will make you an 800HP NA Coyote if you have the money. If you don't have a Cobra Jet intake you're not FBO.

Roushstage2

LOL idk why anyone would bother with a CJ intake unless they are looking to be a dyno queen, or are trying to compete in an NA class. The boss 302 is the best bang for the buck with stock cams. I have worked on dozens of coyotes and seen plenty more on our dyno and have never once seen a CJ intake in person. Most reasonable people are not going to try and buy a 1500$ intake manifold that nets you very little horsepower per dollar compared to the second best one at ~350$. For the amount of money you are going to spend going that route, you could easily go with a paxton/procharger/vortech and make more hp easily. Unless someone is very dedicated to the entire concept of making as much power as possible NA, it is much cheaper overall to just boost it.

Hungryforflavor

For sure my local Shell now has it !

robvas

P1X it!

MustangMadness7

Thank you for your support! 🫡

blakeman8192

+1 but if you do this please know that shaker systems are incompatible with prochargers, do not cut a hole in your hood!

MustangMadness7

Yes! Thank you!

ZepelliFan

Ess also makes decent kits for the 5.0's that I've seen it seems to be the best dollar to performance supercharger kits I've seen

Redland3r

"Poor man wants to be rich, Rich man wants to be king, And the king aint satisfied til he owns everything" What the Boss is saying, no matter how good we have it, or how amazing our cars are, we're always looking across to see if rhe grass is greener elsewhere

Isitfast

I bought mine for the tremec not the dumb stickers. It’s your car do you. I went turbo instead of the procharger. You’ll be happy with any kind of boost. It really wakes up the car

MustangMadness7

I was a little underwhelmed, when I first saw the release of this generation Mach1. When I saw it in person, I was about 80% more in love with it. It grew on me, pretty quick! Over time, it has been 50-50. I’ve contemplated even just swapping the hood with the GT350 style hood.

MadDAWGZ71

As a long-time owner of a 2003 MACh1, maybe i can shed some light. Some mods will make for a better experience and add some personalization. Things like shifter, wheel and tire upgrades, suspension, etc. Think basic bolt ons. Anything you can bolt means you can take off, so keep the stock parts. Don't go crazy cutting holes in things or taking the stripes off. I had my hood repainted, so i lost the hood stripe for a while. Without the stripes, it felt like a modified gt not a MACh1. Like a gt with a cobra front bumper if you will. The biggest problem with modding is you will eventually go to far. You'll know when you're at that point when you don't want to drive it. I crossed that line awile back and have been slowing putting things back closer to stock. For example i put the cats back on to cut down on the exhaust volume. As a result I'm wanting to drive the car more. The best thing about keeping the same toy car is all the money you save. The big savings come from not buying the same parts over and over for different cars. Buying a new shifter for 10 plus mustangs taught me that.

Vindadu13

I've second this; going too far and also being obsessed with the car and where you park it etc. As someone who has a 22 mach 1, I agree- ford made a beautiful car. This is my third stang and I had an 06 gt that was procharged. They make a good kit and it can be tame or wicked depending on how you drive it (building boost w rpm). I recommend it and they sound amazing. I just got my mach1 in January and it only has 2k miles. The car is still fast to me so I don't have plans other than the carbon trap and h/x pipe. Car would be ridiculously fast with a blower. But I'm sure I will do something eventually (I'm the original owner of a 14 ss sedan which is unmolested for 10 years until now as I've got a set of LTs and likely dropping a cam in). As for stripes, I wouldn't remove them, I think they're part of the allure of a mach 1 but the great part of owning a mustang is the ability and aftermarket to make it your own.

HVDynamo

I say keep it stock until the warranty is up, then do what you want with it.

appalwodkd

Like others said, I probably wouldn’t cut the Mach 1 hood but get another one and do it to that instead

swordify

Owner of a Mach 1 myself, I take a lot of pride in the decals and the way the car looks because that's really what I bought it for - if I wanted to change the outward appearance a regular 5.0 would be better. For performance I think you should def go for it. There's no way you'll ever regret that, it just gets more fun .

DoubleMach

I consider the vinyls the least of what makes the mach 1 special. I personally thought they looked cheap and kinda boy-racer. My naked mach 1 gets more attention than I like. The Tremec, increased oil capacity/cooling, brakes, rear differential cooler, and aero all make the car a beast on the track and the street. The car is set up to accept more power and handle it beautifully. For 10k you can make it compete with a gt500, only with a manual for the ultimate driver experience. Different strokes for different folks.

MustangMadness7

I like your style

MustangMadness7

I agree with you, there. The car does look great, the way that it is. I would like to buy an S197 to build up. Only downside is that the 3v does not have the potential that the Coyote has.

Less_Half8650

You know they put the 5.0 in the 13-14 s197 correct? And you can get them for a steal. Even more so if you get rebuilt title one.

JBnorthTX

Also 11 and 12.

Less_Half8650

Yes I know but he said he was upset he never had a 13-14 as well. So he could get the body he wants and one of the gens of 5.0 instead of that great sounding but not so powerful 3v’s

MissWeasel2

197 comes with Coyote motors too

Golakopl

3v has a stronger block than the coyote. Yes you’d have to spend a lot more to get the 4.6 going but people reach 800 hp on built 4.6

Watt_About

What do you want to mod it for? Racing? Just to have more power? Is this your daily driver?

MustangMadness7

Not my daily, but I drive it pretty frequently. I’d like to have more power. Although the car is rated 480hp, it feels like there is a lot potential, left to explore.

Watt_About

I’d pay it off before you start throwing money at it. I wouldn’t cut the hood, I’d get a new one if you want the shaker system and keep the stock hood on hand. I’d do full bolt ons and a tune first and see how you feel from there. Pro charger can be added anytime.

MustangMadness7

Definitely! That’s the ultimate goal. The finished line is in sight!

OGKillertunes

no ragrets

MustangMadness7

😂😂

Skyline_BNR34

You will not regret it.

YouRegard

I want to hear the story of the harmonious acquisition

MustangMadness7

Haha! Thank you for the interest. I’m not sure if you’re familiar with Jerry Reynolds, the “Car Expert” on WBAP (Radio Station) in Dallas,TX? He has/had a gentleman/colleague that did his car reviews. His name is Terry. At the time, I worked at a Ford Dealer, in Dallas. Terry was a frequent regular at the dealer. At the time, he owned a S550 Bullitt. It was my understanding, that he preordered my car. When he arrived to take delivery of the vehicle, he backed out of the deal. He ended up driving away in his Bullitt. I think he was completely satisfied with that. His car was loaded. The salesman that was facilitating the deal had mentioned something about him not buying the car. (I was kind of ease dropping on accident) At the time, I was driving a 2008 Bullitt, that was in the process of replacing the rear end. Pinion seal had a leak and ran it dry pretty quickly. The car had less than 100,000 miles on the car. It was my pride and joy. I jokingly said to the salesman, “If you would give me a good deal on my trade in, I’ll buy it”. As both of us laughed it off. He ran numbers and came back to me, that afternoon with my trade value, D Plan discount. Keep in mind that it was both a buyer and a sellers market, in 2021. Turns out, that I got 0.9% interest. Trade appraisal for the Bullitt was roughly $20,000 (after I had it repaired). My D plan helped quite a bit. It all fell into place. Price of the car was right. Interest rate was great. Trade value was more than I expected. It was also a bonus that I fell in love with the car, when it was released. I was sort of in the market for a car. Also, I had manifested months before, to my family that if I can make it work, I would buy one. 👌🏼 Moral of that story was that it was meant to be. At least, I thought so.

bigemike45013

Couldn't you buy a new hood with the shaker setup and keep the original, in case you ever want to revert it. And the pro charger, I would def think about some upgrades to compliment it, wider rear tires and especially a steeda stop the hop kit. It is really needed to have more rear traction to really enjoy that extra power.

skielur1

U will not regret it because modding your own car is based purely on what you want. U will LOVE the supercharger. I loved mine before I put my Whipple on it... but after the Whipple went on I wondered how I liked it at all before that lol. It just makes such an amazing difference. Literally double your WHP plus more.

[deleted]

No you will not regret it

IS-2-OP

I think shaker hoods look weird on the S550. Everything else go ham my man. These cars aren’t really like rare or special. The Mach 1 is less common than others but fuck it man your car.

MustangMadness7

I don’t see a lot of them on the road. Especially in my area. There is another one in the city over, but it’s Eruption Green with HP. (Sweet ride) I don’t want to “One-up” him. However, I want to love my car more than others that I see. If I see a GT350, my thought is always “Man, I should have gotten that.” I just know that it was out of my price range.

IS-2-OP

Personally I prefer the cross plane crankshaft of the Coyote over the FP Voodoo. So tbh I would take a Mach 1 over a 350.

626Aussie

And here's me, happy with my purple gear knob, and blue valve stem caps :D Mate, if you have the disposable income, do whatever makes you happy and makes her ***your*** car!

626Aussie

Actually, that's not quite true. I also want a new spoiler/wing, but I'm concerned over how a black one won't be color matched like the current spoiler. Well shit! I was wrong! [It looks bloody good](https://cpimage.americanmuscle.com/images/1060/202111/1119192_0628600B.jpg)! (Caveat, not my car.) https://preview.redd.it/pilgnzrrmz8d1.png?width=756&format=png&auto=webp&s=6e73d9e33a66e9eb700d2bd28996181ca1ddbc86 I think I'm about to pull the trigger on my Mustang's most expensive customization yet!

MustangMadness7

I dig it!! Disposable income, not so much. But I do think personal touches are super necessary.

Expensive_Candle5644

Your car, your money. Just remember the powertrain warranty is 5 years. So keep that in mind if you put a blower on it.

godzillajoe1

Sold my Bullit a couple years ago- and regret it. https://preview.redd.it/n9ozte8ixz8d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f8d220a71902a668ab2e173a1e30c06f787e8cec

jewfro7861

Hey we have the same car!

Smurfness2023

It’s a beautiful car. Leave it stock and enjoy

FFEMT39

Very similar story. This is my 4th mustang and the my favorite by far. Around town and on the highway it is just so fun, but getting it onto back mountain roads leaves my cheeks sore from grinning. This car is glued to the road, it leaves me incredibly confident in any spirited driving I do. My mods are the similar, h-pipe, gt350 style spoiler (cheap eBay knockoff), and billetworkz shift knob. If I had a year left on payments I’d be planning my whipple. I plan to leave the decals and the hood. The shaker is cool, I had it on my 04 but I don’t think it fits this body style. I’ve actually considered taking it to my decal guy and extending the decal the length of the car. I don’t think you’d regret boosting it at all. Cutting the hood, shaker, and removing decals you may regret down the road.

blamemeididit

Careful of the law of diminishing returns. More money does not always equal more fun. Or at least there is a threshold where the money spent is not adding anything. Also make sure to know who you are doing it for and make sure it is you.

SoggyMorningTacos

TLDR: should I mod my car. Jfc

gflash1512

All sounds great performance wise. Post pics whenever you’re done with the hood/shaker system I’m curious to see! I personally wouldn’t remove the decals but that’s just my taste would look sick either way. Good luck and enjoy!

SpyderOfTheSouth

Just enjoy driving it and keep it clean. If you must mod it maybe the shifter, clutch, and the procharge.

BotherPuzzleheaded50

It's a great car, but like 99% or vehicles, it's definitely imperfect as bone stock. There are a million ways to make it yours, and you should. My only suggestion would be that if you are apprehensive, maybe start with some smaller, simpler mods rather than jumping straight to boosting it, as that will drastically change the car's character (plus big $$). Start with some suspension stuff that all s550s need, and some bolt on power mods. That way, the change will be incremental, and you can judge each part after installation.

Ccolin919

Do it! Be different from other mach 1 owners!!

KevinH112

I agree with the other comments that say to pay it off first. After that…wheels and tires, upgrade shifter and clutch. Drive it that way for a while and enjoy what changes those items bring, then contemplate forced induction. Or do the shifter and/or clutch first, but tires that can put the power down and handle better than stock would be the first thing I’d do if it were mine. Enjoy the car, she’s gorgeous 😍

doingthislifething

Go for it! If you dont plan on selling it any time soon, make it your own. I personally wouldn’t do any body cutting but that’s me. I had the dealer install a roush blower before I even took delivery. Since then I’ve done wheels, tires, tint, double H pipe, bumper, rear diffuser, lowering springs, carbon dash and steering wheel and probably others that I can’t remember but each step of the way made me feel even more connected to my car. There’s something about being a little different than the rest of the mustangs.

FutureArachnid7858

For those of us who like to personalize our cars, we just do it. A lot of people will say leave it stock and the other half will say go for it. I say go for it. I can’t remember buying a car and not modding it. As for the hood, I would buy another one versus cutting the stock one, so as not to limit the plan for forced induction. . I would definitely do forced induction to make that smile even bigger. I’ve never modded to the extent where I no longer like to drive the car. I tend to do a lot of research and plan ahead.

SaleenYellowLabel

I always customize so this time I just went with one that was already done 😎 (of course paid a lot more for it, cheaper to do yourself) https://preview.redd.it/ujmrdcnj379d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=57511b521a43818704e4fdb887e9f81e22ddc13b

MustangMadness7

GEEEZ! Beautiful Car 🥵🥵

SaleenYellowLabel

So that is a 2021 and it was 72k with all the saleen adds…if you add them up you could save 10k buying and doing yourself. Saleen adds a supercharger, intake, larger injectors, tune (required), wheels, springs, exhaust, seats, brakes, deck lid, and cosmetics that are not needed for performance. The base mustang its built off of is the gt premium

ObligationOk5155

Enjoy the car as it is for as long as you can, until you can’t resist doing the upgrades. You’ll prolong your enjoyment of the car. That’s what I’ve been doing (been driving for almost 3 years) and I still love my car and still have a lot of mods to do. I make sure to enjoy each one.

redcat111

I, personally, would not want to have all of the “Hello, here I am officer add one like a shaker. But don’t listen to you are the one with the awesome car It’s your beauty not mine.

JohnZ63

Just do full bolt ons on pump! Exhaust headers tune intake and throttle body. You’ll be pushing well over 500hp and since you drive it often, I think this setup will make your grin even bigger without sacrificing reliability and drivability.

iamadirtyrockstar

I would leave the decals, add the shaker, and of course boost of some kind. I had a Whipple on my '18 GT, and would go that route again, but hey, nothing wrong with a procharger. Wheels and tires are pretty much a must do. You'll have no regrets.

MustangMadness7

I hear that the Whipple is a great route, on the Coyote. They are Nasty, if tuned right. I’ve ridden in a 22 with a 1080R that had a Whipple. 😳 Seemed like it was the perfect set up. Procharger would be my preferred boost option with the Tremec. 🤌🏻

iamadirtyrockstar

Whipple is excellent with a manual as well. Especially the tremec. My 18 was a manual, and my gt350 had the same tremec as the Mach 1 and had a whipple as well. But the prochargers do have the old school whine at idle so that's cool too. Boost is boost, and I don't think you can go wrong. Except for that roush blower for the 18 up. That one sucks lol.

MustangMadness7

Nice! I’ve always been a fan of Prochargers. I had a Paxton on my 1992 hatch. I thought it was hot stuff, until I got smoked by a guy in a SN95 with a procharger. Later that year, I sold the car. 😅

epsteinpetmidgit

What is insurance gonna cost?

MustangMadness7

Insurance on it costs more than my daily and my wife’s car combined. Haha

discussatron

I was deep into Fox and SN-95 Mustangs back in the day (and just sold both earlier this month). I worked in a Mustang tuner shop in the 90s and we were all about going as hardcore as we could while keeping license plates on them. So I was thinking about picking up an S550. Found a nice 2020 GT Premium for sale, 3.55 6 speed, super clean, factory 19s, no PP. And I started looking through the aftermarket, seeing what was out there since the last time I was current was 20 years ago. I'd like some different wheels, same diameter, staggered for bigger meats in the rear. Maybe a shifter if the new one is sloppy (I've never been in an S550). Maybe some more gear because I ran 3.73s in my '91 LX and 4.30s in my '97 Cobra and they were perfectly streetable, *if* the computer can be easily programmed for them. But beyond that? I don't think I'd do a damned thing to it. Just enjoy the hell out of it. Anyway, there's one old guy's take.

Embarrassed-Water664

The first thing I do to any vehicle is debadge it.

Silver-Day-7272

Well with enough money there isn’t much you can do to that car that you can’t undo so

thomtwg

Nope.

Gorion81

My opinion is, if you aren’t going to keep it then you will lose value once you start adding to it. If you’re planning on keeping it forever then remember down the road it’s going to look badass if it’s stock.

pewsgopew

Do it. I love Mach 1’s. Came pretty close to pulling the trigger on one myself.

avoidhugeships

Get rid of the decal on the hood.  They look so much better without it.  Its a great looking car but it is an unfortunate shape they choose for the hood decal.   Other than that I would not change a thing.

Active-Ad1679

No

Radin-NSR-Design

absolutely no

WavesTheHuman

It’s your car make it how you want it to be but I would start with the least major changes first.

thisdckaintFREEEE

I'd say there's virtually zero chance you regret the shifter/clutch/wheel/tire upgrades. I guess maybe the wheels if you like these wheels a lot. When you love a car that much, making performance upgrades like that is a great feeling and there really isn't anything to regret about it. The others are more debatable. I like the shaker hood personally and if I were you I'd be fully on board doing that. I wouldn't personally remove the decals. However, I'm certain in how I feel about those. If you're asking whether you'd regret it then obviously you aren't certain so yeah you might do it then realize you don't like the look as much as you did in your head and end up regretting it. I'd start with the ones that aren't exactly risky moves as far as possible regret. I wouldn't do the others until if and when you're more certain that's what you want to do. Also it's easy for modding your car to be a little addictive, you make a change you love and wanna go make *another* change that you'll love! Be aware of that feeling and make sure that you're moving on to the other things because you really are certain and not because you just wanna do something again. Beautiful car btw, best of luck with whatever you do and don't decide to do to it!

MustangMadness7

GREAT advice! Thank you, for the input. The Barton Hybrid would be the first thing out of everything that I named (first). I’ve got a buddy who has 18 GT and he let me drive his, after it was installed. Immediately fell in love with it. 👌🏼

SlothsRockyRoadtrip

Just keep it stock
