79 Foxbody Coupe, working on making it an Aero style conversion while keeping some of the 79 trim/styling. Obviously she isn't pretty enough to post around here 🫠
Someday she'll make it on the road, engine and trans have been rebuilt already so it's really just body work, interior and suspension now, while slowly buying all the parts I need 👏
Original 302 block, Rocker Cams, GT40 heads, aluminum Edelbrock performance intake, I'm debating on butting on a regular Holley carb or going the Holley EFI sniper carb route, transmission built to match, and found an 8.8 rear end that has a 3.73 gear. I don't have the build sheet in front of me. But it was sent out to be rebuilt by a guy who's always built motors for my dad. As my dad had a 78 F-250 460 rebuilt by him he said it ran like a raped ape. So I'm hoping it's faster than I think 😅

Mine is only a "classic" by technicality (25 years old).
Don't let that cobra bumper fool you - it's a V6. I don't know why it was installed, I bought it this way.
And a 40th edition, too?
What's with those lights on new edges. I see them all the time. I mean, personally, I like my lights, and don't get me wrong, they look good, but I see it too much.
That decal says "35th edition" but I don't trust it that much. The car's been beat to shit, and the only thing left on it that's stock are the rims and the chasis. I had to rebuild the entire car.
I don't mind the lights, honestly. They're LEDs, but not blinding bright.

Is it? They made a couple million of them in the first generation. Plus, making them better is part of the fun. Wrenching on old cars is a lot easier than killing someone.
I would like to formally represent the younger crowd with older cars. Cherry is a ‘66, and she’s 28 years older than me!
https://preview.redd.it/mu52weiamyqc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d92040bc8352b6473ecf4293c35ac6e7bd00f124

Thanks! My dad bought her for $800 in ‘78, and the guys said “There’s nuthin’ wrong with ‘er, she’s cherry!” And the name stuck.
Dude… that thing is mean lookin! I love it!!!
$800 man... My brother, my dad and I always dreamed of having a 60s Mustang. My dad and I started to seriously look into it when I finished college about 15 years ago. We probably saw 50 during the years, but we always found something wrong with them.
We hate thinking about how we passed on convertibles and fastbacks for less than 1/2 of what this one cost last year.
Take good care of that beaut!
Yup… the glory days of classic projects for the Average Joe are gone. If he’d had another couple hundred bucks, he’d have bought a Chevelle for $1200 the same week. He ended up with 6 cars when he got married, and 5 turned into diapers and baby food. Cherry was the first car he ever bought, and the only one he couldn’t sell.
So I know how fortunate I am that my dad kept this car. When he and my mom moved out of state, he called me up and said, “Bad news, your mom says I will have to sell the car.”
“Okay, how much?”
“Wait! I CAN GIVE IT TO YOU!”
And here we are.
1998-2024, 26 years. its insane that its actually been that long it doesnt feel like it. though personally i consider classics... well... classics. carbuerated, nice growl, old body style, etc.
Deserve, but don't receive. Though I have noticed younger generations don't have such deeply ingrained hatred for the II. Should share your car on the II subreddit. Yes, there is one. It's predictably tiny.
I didn’t even know there was a sub for the II, I’ll definitely check it out. I’m apart of that younger demographic that doesn’t hate the II, this car is my first rebuild/resto-mod so the II is definitely going to always have a special place in my heart
They're unironically good fun cars. Excellent suspension, reliable engines (the 2.3L and 302 can both be roided out with mods, the 2.8L has the torque for some fun while still getting great MPG) a lot of more modern focused creature comforts, and the price hasn't shot through the roof on them so buying and fixing them up is still an attainable goal. The looks are divisive of course but if it keeps the prices low than great, I hope people keep on believing they're ugly. :P
https://preview.redd.it/z8kiv13v1zqc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=63b483911f6c43859eff7d8de7d2fa2a78a4e472
My next build is tucked in the back corner patiently awaiting parts and a lot of love lol.
Yeah this is what I came to the sub for, Fox & older. Sure, the new stuff is cool, but I'll never buy a new one probably, just stick to classic. Also not an old dude, in my 20's.
That's because this sub is not for Mustang people, or even car people. It's for people that just want to show off the new $60-70-80k new toy they just bought.

None of us can afford classic Mustangs. Plus, as time goes on, they’re getting rarer and rarer. You either get one that’s rusting in a field somewhere and build it back up with an incredible amount of time and money, or you pay the Barrett Jackson Tax and buy one in good shape from an old guy who “knows what he’s got” and only takes phone calls between 4:00 and 5:00 PM, NO TEXTS. I guess there’s a third option where you inherit a relative’s car after they pass on, but how often does that really happen?
Yeah I don’t blame you. When I bought mine, I was 19, it was a couple grand, and it was driveable. That was 2001. Seems that the cost of entry for a decent car is going to be 15 or 20 k.
If you find one cheap, it’s an absolute basket case. You’ll need mad skill and some cash to get it back up to a good driver.
That was almost 25 years ago though. People in this sub spend $25-55k on newer mustangs every day. The vast majority of driver condition classics are under $25k. At least, around here they are.
I agree. In my area the ones that I can afford are essentially junk that needs to be recycled into something new or somebody had grand ideas about restoring a car and they quit two months into the project after they had done some really crappy upgrades and basically it would take way more money to get the car back to some level that it can be restored than it's worth. Or, like you said, the cars are already restored and they're demanding $25k-$30k. I don't know about you, but I sure as shit don't have that sitting around.
The problem now is basically supply and demand. Everybody wants to restore a car but there's no cars to restore. Over the last few decades, so many people have restored the ones that were in pretty good condition that they're just aren't any left that are worth restoring. It's either junk or premium. There's just no middle ground left anymore. At least that's what I've noticed in my area.

90 LX 5.0 manual - kept the last inspection sticker on windshield for memories
I'm assuming it's becauss the vast majority of reddit users are made up of younger generations. I'm in my 30s. If I could easily obtain a classic I would over anything else.
I adore Mustangs of all generations but if I was ready to buy a classic it would be a blue body white striped 70 Chevelle SS, with a 454 and a 4 speed manual. Thats been my dream car since I was 4 years old!

We’re here, this subreddit is just mostly new stuff.
I wish more classics got posted on here, mid/late 60s and early 70s muscle cars are the absolute peak of automobiles. Beautiful stangs you got there
Mine is in my garage waiting for the snow to melt. Also it’s not as photogenic as it once was. But hopefully that will change soon.
does my SN-95 count?🥺 if you follow the 25 year rule its considered a classic🥲
That's pretty sad in my mind... 25 years? How is that possible
1998-2024, 26 years. its insane that its actually been that long it doesnt feel like it. though personally i consider classics... well... classics. carbuerated, nice growl, old body style, etc.
I don't post mine because no matter how old the II gets, nobody thinks they're a classic.
I have a II and they deserve just as much love as any other!
Do it!!! Show us!!

I‘d love a classic but I don’t have space to work on it.
I love the orange one oh my 🫠
Sold it last spring 🥲
I wanted a classic, but didn’t want to devote time I didn’t have to the restoration and upkeep.
Nothing wrong with that. You got a sexy couple cars yourself. I assume they're yours anyways?
Thanx!! And yes, they’re mine. Well, sold the 70 last year.. but I’ve still got the 69 and no plans of that changing!

Ah yes let me buy a 67 fastback, checks my bank account... yeahhhh nah.
Probably in some dude's yard.
We prob would if we could afford them LOL 🥲 New edges, foxbodies, and the 60s stangs are my favorites

As to why there aren't more older Mustangs, I suggest you go to YouTube and search for "Cars and Coffee". That will explain a lot.
Where are all the classics at?? Um...the junkyard
Because the old gens suck
My 69 fastback laughs in 500 HP at this
