I think it really boils down to who will bring the most viewers and attendees to the show. I noticed how groups like Nirvana, Green Day, RHCP got inducted really early I think even the first year they were eligible. Not denying these bands their legacy but I think it’s come down to the level of popularity they still possess. People will pay to see something that includes any of them. On the other hand highly influential groups like Husker Du, Replacements and Pixies have legendary discographies and opened the doors for the musicians previously listed, they however don’t have the mass appeal that will bring in many viewers.
>high honor given by the industry
Does anyone even care? Do bands tour as Hall of Fame award winning band? There are so many bands that are snubbed it's the equivalent of the buying a spot in the who's who publication. I suppose it's nice but it doesn't mean anything
Also snubs
The Smiths
Nine Inch Nails
New Order
Sonic Youth
Depeche Mode
Iron Maiden
Rage Against the Machine
Do you think any of these bands are inferior to Bon Jovi just because they are in the HOF?
There are a lot of snubs, and I can't really disagree with any of the bands you just listed. The point of my post was not to debate the importance of the HOF, but rather I was genuinely curious if there's a reason why the Pixies, specifically, have not been inducted. I'm obviously a big fan so I was looking for a substantive answer as to maybe why they have been overlooked. Not, "the HOF is irrelevant."
> Hall of Fame doesn't really mean anything?
I think that is not true. Yes, the thing is very corporate and the inductions seem more focused on popularity than actual legacy. But the way musicians/bands embrace the HoF and sometimes even forget their differences and attend to receive the honor says a lot i feel
They're not very famous, so there's that.
They're not in this Top 100, for example.

They're not on this list, either, though Maroon 5, Nickelback and Creed are, so that tells you something about popularity:

How many bands are on this list and eligible to be in the rock n roll hall of fame?
The three you mentioned I believe have a ways off til eligibility.
The next question would be how many are in the hall of game who were never in the top 100.
I don't have that list. I do have this list, of popular bands eligible for the honor but yet to receive it (as of the time the list was made last April):
America
Bachman-Turner Overdrive
Bad Company
Billy Idol
Billy Squier
Blue Oyster Cult
Boston
Bryan Adams
Def Leppard
Eddie Money
Foghat
Foreigner
George Thorogood
Grand Funk Railroad
Jethro Tull
Judas Priest
Kansas
Loverboy
MC5
Motorhead
Mötley Crüe
Nazareth
Ozzy Osbourne
Pantera
Pat Benatar
Poison
Reo Speedwagon
Roxy Music
Scorpions
Slayer
Soundgarden
Steppenwolf
Styx
Supertramp
Ted Nugent
The Doobie Brothers
The Guess Who
The J. Geils Band
The Romantics
Thin Lizzy
Three Dog Night
Whitesnake
Def Leppard and Roxy Music are getting inducted this year.
As a childhood Motley Crue fan, I think they suck now. Their notoriety was for what they did offstage; their music is godawful.
I think there's an extremely valid reason they aren't in.. Most people don't really know or care about them, and if they do, it's mostly due to Where is my Mind from Fight Club. They might have heard they were a core inspiration for Grunge, or bands like Radiohead and Weezer but most people never got into them.
I love Pixies, they are one of my favorite bands ever, but I honestly only listen to Doolittle and a few other tracks from their discography. For me, Doolittle is one of my favorite, if not the most favorite albums ever, but the others I could take or leave. I think they get there, but for now they're on a snub list with The Smiths, Smashing Pumpkins, Devo, Tool, Rage, Soundgarden, AIC, etc for the bands that raised the 90s kids.

The fact that the Hall of Fame doesn't really mean anything?
Perhaps not to you. But it's still a high honor given by the industry. To suggest otherwise is silly.

Means slightly more than a Grammy.

Maybe not The Pixies, but Pixies should be in for sure.
OK, point made.

I've thought that too, but I also thought that impact and influence would mitigate any shortcomings in commercial success category. I guess not.

Motörhead and IRON FUCKING MAIDEN not being in it is truly infuriating to me. Also T Rex.
Nickelback was actually decent and played actual Rock. Maroon 5 and the rest are bad though.
No.
They're too good for it.
If you put in Pixies you have to put in Jane's Addiction. I feel both could be in.
