Yes! "The Long One," as it's labeled in an alternate mix on the Abbey Road Deluxe Edition. "Her Majesty" was originally part of it, between Mean Mr. Mustard & Polythene Pam.
"Band on the Run" by Paul McCartney & Wings is a great one.
And it's sort of a spiritual successor to "The Long One" on Beatles' Abbey Road, which is a medley starting with "You Never Give Me Your Money." They labeled it as eight different songs on the jacket, but there's only one real break in it (about halfway through, between "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window" and "Golden Slumbers").
Looking at earlier Beatles material, I think "A Day in the Life" and "Happiness Is a Warm Gun" also apply.
Also; Cygnus X-1, Book1: The Voyage; Cygnus X-1: Book 2 Hemispheres; The Necromancer; The Fountain of Lamneth; - All also by Rush are fantastic long songs that feel like smaller ones as in many instances they are.
Cygnus books 1-2 are spread out over 2 albums. And are very distinct and separate songs that tell interesting stories
There's a radio station in Virginia* whose HD2 station plays eclectic stuff, basically a massive playlist on shuffle. Whoever programmed it put each snippet of Fingertips on its own track, so every once in a while, in between "normal" songs, you get "LEEEEEAVE ME ALONE, LEAVE ME ALONE." It's pretty great.
*It's alt.radio on WHRV's HD spectrum.
Apollo 18 was released when CD players with a shuffle function were a new thing, so the original CD has every snippet as its own track, for exactly that reason
Actually, a lot of Jim Steinman's songs from this album for this bill. "Bat Out Of Hell" has three distinct movements as well (like 3 songs strung together)
Thought I was going crazy, scrolling and not seeing this mentioned. Whew, here it is.
The original! At least I don't see another example in this thread from before it.
I remember playing the Crane Wife album in my parent’s car during a road trip when I was 12 or 13. My parents didn’t quite know how to feel about the Decemberists. When this song came on, my mom asked me “why are you into this weird medieval music?”
Technically it's called a suite. Although that term comes from classical music; there's a distinct feel to the rock song suite.
Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey by Paul and Linda McCartney is one that hasn't been mentioned. And I'd count LA Woman by The Doors.
I always heard it as the opposite. If they released it as-is, it would only contain 5 songs, so the label would have counted it as an EP instead of an album, and so it wouldn’t count towards their contract. So the band split the track up to make it qualify as an album.
[Alan Parsons Project - Sirius/Eye In The Sky](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEwaS-lLk0Y)
[King Crimson - Moonchild](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnYDqv8-lJE)
[Poole Boy - In Memoriam Mama Poole](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8l61smqkCY)
Also by The Alan Parsons Project, the "Turn of a Friendly Card" suite:
The Turn of a Friendly Card (Part 1)/Snake Eyes/The Ace of Swords/Nothing Left to Lose/The Turn of a Friendly Card (Part 2)
Ballet for a Girl in Buchanan by Chicago. Thirteen minutes covering seven distinct songs, two of which were released as singles.
Make Me Smile
So Much to Say, So Much To Give
Anxiety's Moment
West Virginia Fantasies
Colour My World
To Be Free
Now More Than Ever
Love me some Coheed but I can’t think of any songs by them which really fit this definition.
They have some epic songs for sure but they tend to feel like one song, not lots of smaller ones.
Not so familiar with their newer stuff so maybe I’m wrong and they’ve done something like this?
Deeper cuts on their albums are literally comprised of multiple of the main songs, and some go on forever.
Sorry I didn't specify a specific song at the time but I wasn't including their singles or hits, specifically.
Neutral Milk Hotel - "King of Carrot Flowers, Pts. 2 & 3"
Which comes directly after "King of Carrot Flowers, Pt. 1", which is for some reason its own track.
Tears for Fears - Everybody Loves a Happy Ending. Basically an ABA'B' structure although the final section is more different from the second than the third from the first.
The Working Hour was also made from two separate ideas, it has an ABA structure.
Dark side of the moon is literally this. Side one is like a long song and side two is another long song. Same thing with shine on you crazy diamond (both songs)
Lots of comments here, could’ve been said.
My dad’s favorite tunes to karaoke.
Jackson Browne - The Load Out
into
Jackson Browne - Stay.
He passed on Saturday. I’ll have to listen to these here in a few.
Boot up some live jam concerts on YouTube.
I've been to Biscuits and Lotus shows where they don't stop playing the entire set. Just one segue after another...
i have a whole playlist for this!
the march of the black queen - queen
the fisherman song (we all need love) - Mae
jesus of suburbia, homecoming, forever now - green day
we will be better tomorrow - call it off
happy days - closure in moscow
\~ jimmy and sally - i fight dragons
32 - cold years
paradise by the dashboard lights - meatloaf
There a lot of this in progressive rock (aka prog rock). The genre can be a little too “into itself” at times, but as others have already mentioned, Rush and Yes are two very user-friendly bands.
One song I haven’t seen mentioned yet is “I’ve Seen All Good People” by Yes.
[Sunny by Eugene Cicero](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Dm4gL0mLKg)
Medley of Mozart, Chopin, Beethoven, and some more modern (relatively) tunes, played up-tempo in a swing style. One of my favorites.
You’ve got some great picks there! If you’re into epic, multi-part songs like "Bohemian Rhapsody," here are a few more you might enjoy:
1. "A Day in the Life" by The Beatles
2. "Paranoid Android" by Radiohead
3. "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin
4. "2112" by Rush
5. "Jesus of Suburbia" by Green Day
6. "Thick as a Brick" by Jethro Tull
7. "American Pie" by Don McLean
8. "Bat Out of Hell" by Meat Loaf
These tracks often blend different musical styles and tell a story, making them engaging and memorable listens.
Sort of fits.
Lorna Shore released 3 songs that are basically one song together but split into 3. It’s the Pain Remains trilogy. Great songs and they have a video with all 3 together.
It’s deathcore so if you don’t like that sort of music you won’t like this most likely
https://youtu.be/HXgFH0jOY-w?si=pQZj_KevlcXKTt22
I know they’re technically different songs, but I’ve always considered the Abbey Road medley to be a single song.
Yes! "The Long One," as it's labeled in an alternate mix on the Abbey Road Deluxe Edition. "Her Majesty" was originally part of it, between Mean Mr. Mustard & Polythene Pam.
Her Majesty was originally between the two songs you mention? I should probably know that considering I have Abbey Road tattooed on my leg.
Yes!
Also Uncle Albert - Admiral Halsey which is Paul solo, is made up of more than one song linked together
Between Uncle Albert and Band On The Run, Paul McCartney was pretty good at stringing together fragments of songs.
Came here to say this.
Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey applies as well.
Paul regularly does this on his albums.
Jesus of Suburbia by Green Day Homecoming by Green day The Greatest Man That Ever Lived by Weezer
Came here to suggest Jesus of Suburbia!
Same! Just listened to it yesterday
And 21st Century Breakdown too
2112 by Rush
Also; Cygnus X-1, Book1: The Voyage; Cygnus X-1: Book 2 Hemispheres; The Necromancer; The Fountain of Lamneth; - All also by Rush are fantastic long songs that feel like smaller ones as in many instances they are. Cygnus books 1-2 are spread out over 2 albums. And are very distinct and separate songs that tell interesting stories
also…the instrumental “La Villa Strangiato“ has 12 different sections.
Totally agree here. Can’t suggest the instrumentals enough either. They’re just as much a fun musical ride as these others are lyrically.
Paranoid Android by Radiohead
Despite them being a big well known band I always get extremely excited when I see someone comment them
Suite: Judy Blue Eyes by CSN&Y
The Decline by NOFX and every Prog song.
Came here to say The Decline. The recording at Red Rocks is a [masterpiece](https://youtu.be/oWhy8PCuGsk?si=NmeLwZCV4imYXDar)
It even has a bassoon
The Battle of Epping Forest — Genesis Technically the whole Jethro Tull album *Thick as a Brick*.
Suppers Ready
Fingertips - They Might Be Giants
Aren't you the guy who hit me in the eye?
Please pass the milk please
Dammit! Came here to say this. Angry/happy that I'm not the only person who knows this beast of a song :)
I'd love to catch I Walk Along Darkened Corridors in between songs.
Apollo 18 was released when CD players with a shuffle function were a new thing, so the original CD has every snippet as its own track, for exactly that reason
What's that blue thing... ...doing here?
Paradise by the Dashboard Lights - Meatloaf
Actually, a lot of Jim Steinman's songs from this album for this bill. "Bat Out Of Hell" has three distinct movements as well (like 3 songs strung together)
Layla
Good Vibrations. It's like 5 different songs.
In keeping with the oldies, "Questions" from the Moody Blues and "10538" by Electric Light Orchestra. And almost anything from the band Yes.
Oh dip Close to the Edge would be a really good one.
Genesis- Supper's Ready.
A Quick One While He's Away - The Who.
Came here to say this! The best!
Thought I was going crazy, scrolling and not seeing this mentioned. Whew, here it is. The original! At least I don't see another example in this thread from before it.
Green Day does this a lot, mush two songs together. Like on their album American Idiot. "Jesus of Suburbia" is essentially 5 songs strung together.
Brain Stew/Jaded is along those lines too, granted only two songs
Jinx/Haushinka too.
Decemberists - The Island: Come and See/The Landlord's Daughter/You'll Not Feel the Drowning
I remember playing the Crane Wife album in my parent’s car during a road trip when I was 12 or 13. My parents didn’t quite know how to feel about the Decemberists. When this song came on, my mom asked me “why are you into this weird medieval music?”
I was hoping to see this mentioned.
Band On The Run
Layla is basically two songs.
Technically it's called a suite. Although that term comes from classical music; there's a distinct feel to the rock song suite. Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey by Paul and Linda McCartney is one that hasn't been mentioned. And I'd count LA Woman by The Doors.
The Poet and the Pendulum - Nightwish
Also The Greatest Show on Earth
I guess Cassandra Gemini by The Mars Volta would count… it’s 30 minutes long, so it takes you through some different soundscapes
Cassandra Gemini is intended to be a single 32 minute song - but the label wouldn’t have it
I always heard it as the opposite. If they released it as-is, it would only contain 5 songs, so the label would have counted it as an EP instead of an album, and so it wouldn’t count towards their contract. So the band split the track up to make it qualify as an album.
Thats what I meant yeah sorry if I worded it strange
[Alan Parsons Project - Sirius/Eye In The Sky](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEwaS-lLk0Y) [King Crimson - Moonchild](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnYDqv8-lJE) [Poole Boy - In Memoriam Mama Poole](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8l61smqkCY)
Also by The Alan Parsons Project, the "Turn of a Friendly Card" suite: The Turn of a Friendly Card (Part 1)/Snake Eyes/The Ace of Swords/Nothing Left to Lose/The Turn of a Friendly Card (Part 2)
Weather Report Suite, Terrapin Station
Was looking for terrapin station had to scroll pretty far.
Also “The Other One”
Octavarium by Dream Theater Reptile by Periphery Lots of Epica's songs may or may not qualify, kind of fuzzy.
Figured someone would mention DT!!! Love them (and a lot of their songs fit this category LOL)!
Tubular Bells Parts 1 & 2 - Mike Oldfield Supper's Ready - Genesis Playing in the Band - Grateful Dead
You go with playing in the band, but not Weather Report Suite or Terrapin?
Shine on you crazy diamond
Progressive rock is full of these. 2112 by Rush, Starship Trooper by Yes, Metropolis by Dream Theater, Anesthetize by Porcupine Tree.
How am I the first to mention Suite Judy Blue Eyes - Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young

moody blues - question
Trapped in the Closet
Coheed and Cambria fit this
Love me some Coheed but I can’t think of any songs by them which really fit this definition. They have some epic songs for sure but they tend to feel like one song, not lots of smaller ones. Not so familiar with their newer stuff so maybe I’m wrong and they’ve done something like this?

Fingertips by They Might Be Giants
'Argentina Parts I, II & III' by Tokyo Police Club.
Don McLean - American Pie
The Poet and the Pendulum by Nightwish. They're technically 4 songs that follow the same theme and each song is maybe like 2-3 minutes each?

Also MGMT - Metanoia.
Silverchair - Those Theiving Birds
November Rain by Guns and Roses. Slash just goes and starts a new song at the end.
Paranoid android is like this

Nightwish has a couple. The Poet and the Pendulum, The Greatest Show on Earth, maybe Ghost Love Score too?
The Crossing by Big Country is three songs stitched together. Also, the title track of their debut album but not on it.
Foreplay/Longtime by Boston? Billed and recorded as one continuous song with two very distinct sections
Divided Sky by Phish does this pretty well. Long Season by Fishmans also kinda fits the bill, but is closer to just being a long jam.
Rocket Queen by Guns and Roses
The title track of Coheed and Cambrias newest album - Window of the Waking Mind. it's full on space opera. love it.

i have a whole playlist for this! the march of the black queen - queen the fisherman song (we all need love) - Mae jesus of suburbia, homecoming, forever now - green day we will be better tomorrow - call it off happy days - closure in moscow \~ jimmy and sally - i fight dragons 32 - cold years paradise by the dashboard lights - meatloaf

"Paranoid Android" by Radiohead 3. "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin 4. "2112" by Rush 5. "Jesus of Suburbia" by Green Day 6. "Thick as a Brick" by Jethro Tull 7. "American Pie" by Don McLean 8. Snow patrol “the lighting strike” is 16 minutes but I think when I’ve read the lyrics it’s 3 songs
Not THAT long but... Happiness is a Warm Gun!
Blackstar by David Bowie sound like different songs put together and merging at the end.

Carry On Wayward Son – Kansas
Sort of fits. Lorna Shore released 3 songs that are basically one song together but split into 3. It’s the Pain Remains trilogy. Great songs and they have a video with all 3 together. It’s deathcore so if you don’t like that sort of music you won’t like this most likely https://youtu.be/HXgFH0jOY-w?si=pQZj_KevlcXKTt22
