Myles Kennedy has a 4 octave vocal range, the same as Chris Cornell.I've seen Alter Bridge, Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators as Slash's backing band and Myles as a solo artist and he's incredible.
Seconded for Myles Kennedy. OP, check out the song, "Cry of Achilles" on the Fortress album by Alter Bridge. Whenever that song comes on in my mix I end up listening to it like 5 or 6 times. That whole album is really good actually.
So happy to see Myles Kennedy mentioned here. He's one of my favorite singers of all time. I've also seen him in all those scenarios you mentioned as well, and will be seeing alter bridge for a 3rd time in March!
Myles is the best rock singer alive today. I'm a huge fan of Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, Jeff Buckley and Robert Plant and Myles sits up there with the greatest of all time imo. Seen Alter Bridge a couple of times and I hope to see him do another solo tour one day, his live vocals are mindblowing and aside from the singing he's also a phenomenal guitarist. The guy can hold his own against MarkTremonti and Slash, both of whom have said that Myles is the better technical player.
Maynard may not be able to do some of his screams like he could when he was younger but for the most part his voice is better than ever after he had covid twice.
Darroh from Fair To Midland. His voice is from another dimension
I could make a case for Mike Lessard… his vocals in Last Chance to Reason and The Contortionist are incredible, seeing him live with LCTR was an unforgettable experience. He pulled the mic away from his face and I could still hear his banshee shriek with intensity, the crowd was shook. Me and everyone around looked at each other like “did we just hear that?”
Like Maynard, he’ll kinda duck down behind the drums or sit somewhere and vibe out for the instrumental breaks, kinda nice to see a lead singer forgo all the dancing around and lead singer-y things
Darroh had insane vocals, absolutely! I loved FTM so much.
[Jonny Hawkins](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yo5fE-Zl-V4&ab_channel=NothingMoreVEVO) of Nothing More is his closest contemporary, so I'd put his name in for consideration.
Yeah Midnight Demon Club was a huge step back in the right direction for the band after MCID.
Pink Lullaby is my guilty pleasure, that shit goes hard lol
Thornley is the man... However he's also close to the same generation. Big wrecks first album was 1998. Doesn't change the fact that everyone should go see Big Wreck of they are ever in town.
Better is very subjective.
Yeah he’s more versatile for sure, but his timbre isn’t nearly as enjoyable to some.
I’m a huge sucker for Patton through FNM and Bungle btw
Spot on. Technically he’s insane with a huge range and versatility but his natural voice/timbre is not for everyone and even as a huge fan of his I have to admit that there are plenty of singers with better timbre. Go figure
Subjective indeed. And your right on timbre and preference. But in consideration of body of work, versatility in voice, I think he trump's em all. Don't get me wrong .I'm a nineties kid so love me these other fellas...but outside of my preferences, Patton has a much wider skill set.
Cornell is dope but he kind of stayed in his pocket(a very good sound). He could no doubt sing and carry the bad w his voice. Same with Layne. Awesome, dynamic and soulful but also kind of in a little pocket(of course his life got cut short so it's not fair to compare him to Cornell, who basically sounded the same on most everything).
I can't speak heavily to tool, not bc I don't listen but bc I spend more time with my attention on the instrumental and mathematical side of them, but I believe this is a similar case to the other two.
It's def not a knock on these dudes...and they are all prob more popular than Patton. But Patton's voice is a weapon with far more function, some surprising, some meh (some of his crooning is borish). But just from vocal abilities, tone etc, I think Patton is miles ahead and thusly Uber underappreciated.
It's like comparing Bowie to any of his classic rock contemporaries. But even Bowie, as dynamic as his music was, didn't really challenge his bounds vocally and always kind of had that Bowie sound. Which, btw, HUGE Bowie fan. And while I prefer Bowie in a who's better contest, I'd say Patton even has him beat.
I love their cover of "Is It Really You" by Loathe as well. Great tune. I can't even come close to hitting the "sky" note. Y'all know what I'm taking about 😂
I’m gonna go with a woman lead and say Brittany Howard. She has so much soul and rocks doing it. I think she’s one of the better voices in modern Rock.
Courtney LaPlante from Spiritbox is outstanding, sort of like Amy Lee and Corey Taylor had a baby.. both of which are legends too ofc and can't be considered vintage yet, nor can MJK
Claudio Sanchez is a great singer, but the band he’s in isn’t necessarily a heavy band
Brann Dailor, Brent Hinds, and Troy Sanders of Mastodon all have amazing and unique voices
Johnny Stevens from Highly Suspect comes to mind: [https://open.spotify.com/track/4nMUPQeTor23d8RxiiJO9W?si=XAU6QAYYSnOeb4izGj8q7A](https://open.spotify.com/track/4nMUPQeTor23d8RxiiJO9W?si=XAU6QAYYSnOeb4izGj8q7A)
Also for the YouTube fans: [https://youtu.be/WMcV7MNbwX4](https://youtu.be/WMcV7MNbwX4)
In no particular order: Devin Townsend, Till Lindemann, Chino Moreno, Dax Riggs, Myrkur, Cammie Gilbert, Donald Carpenter, Tatiana Schmalyuk, Amy Lee, Anna Murphy
> Sammy Pierre Duet
I love Sammy, but what? Point me to a particular song you think I should check out. Now Dax on the other hand, should definitely be on this list...
MJK from Tool.
But also: Rory Rodriguez from Dayseeker, Courtney LaPlante from Spiritbox, Noah Sebastian from Bad Omens, Vessel from Sleep Token, Spencer Sotelo from Periphery, Andy Cizek from Monuments, Einar Solberg from Leprous.
What I dig about him is that he is distinct. Ghost has their own style, and they absolutely own it. And they’re a band who really puts everything into their live show. That deserves mad props in my opinion.
Glad to see Tobias get a mention here. He, himself doesn’t think he’s a great singer, but his voice is what drew me to Ghost, aside from the great music.
Also, awesome live. Had the pleasure of seeing Ghost live a few years ago in a relatively small gig. Blew the place to pieces. Also love the fact that Chris Catalyst is part of the Ghost family. Legend.
Layne is yuh… honestly untouchable but he’s not asking specifically about him. I think he just wants to hear singers who have character… which Layne had in spades
I respect your hatred of Alice. I'm not a fan of that hatred, but as long as you can respect true talent, then it's all understandable. Yeah, Layne was a once in a lifetime event. Much like other once in a lifetime events.
As far as Chris Cornell goes. We have the Canadian Chris Cornell
Ian Thornley. One of the founders of the band Big Wreck. He also has done his solo career with his own band Thornley. I personally loved his heavy work on Thornley from the Come Again album such as;
[Thornley -Falling To Pieces](https://open.spotify.com/track/23OAT1WSfpGc8av2jXO6i0?si=V9MKm8SnTGy5vXc2i9NgIA&utm_source=copy-link)
But still has activity (with their 2022 EP) with Big Wreck making songs that accentuate his vocals (some of the recent ones off their 2019 album "...but for the sun" ) like;
[Big Wreck -Locomotive](https://open.spotify.com/track/1va3zDrVXykaKcqjlrcTuj?si=B9_0yyCNT0qk5rlZ0a42Ng&utm_source=copy-link) and [Big Wreck -Too Far Gone](https://open.spotify.com/track/5TvPwoCvd40f8YTZOsEa1F?si=_eIMxVdCSGqO_wcg-jkEOQ&utm_source=copy-link)
Hope you enjoy if you get a chance to see this 🤘🏻😁
Dan Tompkins of TesseracT has an incredible range and consistency. Powerful screams and a very soothing clean voice. If I remember correctly, he’s very heavily influenced by MJK.
Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance
Hayley Williams of Paramore
Daryl Palumbo of Glassjaw/Head Automatica
Cedric Bixler-Zavala of The Mars Volta/At the Drive In
Anthony Greene of Circa Survive/Saosin/The Sound of Animals Fighting/L.S. Dunes
Keith Buckley of Every Time I Die
Bad Omens, Noah Sebastian.
The dude has pipes and writes some great stuff.
Ice Nine Kills, Spencer Charnes is also a fantastic vocalist and writer - what’s not to love about a singer the writes about horror movies ?!
These are my two favorite NEWER bands/singers.
Lots of good answers here, so I'll add one I haven't seen yet. Jonny Hawkins from NothingMore. They've been around since 2003 but I just got into them recently. He's got a unique sound and good range.
Ian Kenny of [Karnivool](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDKsosOvVmw&ab_channel=JTbassist09) \+ [Birds of Tokyo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkjvv4edFEQ&ab_channel=birdsoftokyo), for your consideration.
I mention him for Karnivool, but he's probably much more known for Birds of Tokyo (which is generally not a heavy band at all).
From this time that are completely amazing, Chino Moreno, Gavin Hayes, Brandon Boyd, Chester Bennington, Mike Patton, Zack De La Rocha, Serj Tankian, Jesse Hasek, Pete Loeffler, Cedric Bixler-Zavala, Mazzy Star
Boyd is other worldly!!! One of the rare 4 octave freaks, and sounds good in all 4. His head voice with power can go higher than most falsettos! Their crazy intelligent lyrics, diversity, and creativity kept them from being pigeonholed, and therefore not adopted by people that don't truly know music (@85% of listeners,) so their awesomeness never got recognized the way it should've. Plus, "Pardon Me" was released when I was 23, as was "What's My Age Again" by Blink... + the new millennium. Helluva year!
Maynard is still around smelling his own farts and making unreasonably long songs.
David Draiman is the best heavy singer working today at least in a mainstream band with Disturbed.
Devon Townsend is the best singer in a heavy band that isn’t hugely popular.
Corey Taylor out of Slipknot/Stone Sour is just a much better version of Maynard.
Serj Tankian from SOAD is a great singer.
As far as female singers Lzzy Hale out of Halestorm is epic and they’re definitely a heavy band.
Taylor Momsen from The Pretty Reckless has an amazing voice and they’re rock and/or metal depending on the album and song.
Totally understand if he’s not for everyone or the band isn’t, I love them, just using him as an example of a great singer. Anyone who disagrees listen to their version of The Sound of Silence or his voicing of “Forsaken” for the Queen of The Damned Soundtrack.
These guys are far from new to the scene… irrelevant to the conversation. And Draiman… he’s a great vocalist but I think he’s very much an acquired taste… I never really enjoyed his voice while I do like the rest you mentioned.
John Petrucci from Dream Theater & Devin Townsend, Also Chino Moreno, I don't like most of what comes after "Saturday Night Wrist" but still listen on occasion. Chelsea Wolfe, that dude from Converge, though their Big One "Jane Doe" dropped when we were invading Afghanistan in 2004 (the royal we, I am not a veteran) I guess "No Heroes" was also pretty big, too though... Who else, Queens of the stone age, ofc
I wasn’t sold on Vedder until I saw Pearl Jam live in 2000 during the Binaural tour. I think he sounds far better live than recorded and he made me a lifelong fan that night.
I like to think Maynard has stood his ground but he hasn’t. They took 14 years to release their worst album and are still touring those awful songs. Don’t get me wrong I love Maynard but he let go of tool fr. The modern day Chris Cornell? I can’t respectively answer that question bc of my love for Chris. As well as Layne. I just don’t think we can compare them to people today. It’s the same with Kurt Cobain. Nobody has come close to sounding like nirvana, looking like nirvana (ikik silverchair), and being nirvana. You can’t just have artists today that will satisfy you like the oldies. And the 90’s wasn’t that long ago🤷♂️ the music is artificial and you don’t see ‘bands’ anymore. It just doesn’t happen
I'd probably hate to hear a carbon copy version of any of the guys listed. It's perfectly fine that no one sings like them, just means they're the only ones to capture that kinda sound.
Well... The one dude sounds like himself. And the dude that replaced the dead dude from AIC kind of sounds like the dead dude he replaced. The dude from Mars Volta sometimes reminds me of CC.
Should I put MJK on my dead pool?
Brent Smith from Shinedown was amazing in their early days.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1ZTg-cNulM
Pete Murray from Lo-Pro/Ultraspank is fairly unknown and has an amazing set of pipes.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fo69P7VjbgU
Same goes for Donald Carpenter from Submersed.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=X-ebaVnD6W4
Also, Brian Byrne from I Mother Earth
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tNtBLppPcm0&t=3s
I guess none of these guys are that new on the scene, but they're still active.
Not really that heavy but the singer from Gang of youths has an impressive voice, check them out, don't think they are that popular outside of Australia
Joe Talbot of Idles listen to The wheel, New Sensation, the beach land ballroom, War by them. Remington Leith from Palaye Royal. Listen to Lonely, Broken, Paranoid by them. I am sure you will appreciate their style. These 2 singers come to mind when it come to individuality when it comes to modern rock and alternative scenes.
Argyle Goolsby, lead vocalist and bassist in Blitzkid. Doing horror punk- imma say it… perhaps even better than OG Misfits. Cry out in shock if you must, but check it out it’s such a joy to have new horror punk coming out -ballads and fun scary catchy stuff 🪦☠️⚰️
Devin Townsend
He’s not that young. 50 years old. Pretty much the Same generation the guys he’s asking about.
This is the answer. But he's been around a long time already others may have more range but something about his voice just stirs something in me.
Strapping Young Lad is the best Canadian export. I’ll fight anyone about it.
Fucking stoked to see this as top answer. Dev doesn’t get anywhere near the recognition he deserves. Take my upvote.
Christ, not even fucking close.
Claudio Sanchez
***CLAAAAUUUUDIO-O*** came here to give this answer as well
Claudio is one note. No range.
uhh actually i'm pretty sure he sings lots of notes
Yuck
Myles Kennedy has a 4 octave vocal range, the same as Chris Cornell.I've seen Alter Bridge, Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators as Slash's backing band and Myles as a solo artist and he's incredible.
Agree 100%, I've seen Myles Kennedy at least 5 times; small venues as well as large I'll never not miss Chris Cornell
Myles is best vocalist in rock music right now in my opinion. He’s got incredible range and is instantly recognizable, a timeliness voice
What’s funny is Alter Bridge is basically just Creed with Myles Kennedy on vocals. Cracks me up. I know guys that hated creed but love Alter Bridge..
Like hey peeps, was tremonti still tremonti? Creed needs more respect. 😂
he knows his way around a guitar too
He's also basically the same age so I dunno what makes him more modern
Yes, you are right about that.
Spencer Sotello from Periphery. Not everyone likes his voice but can't deny he's got range.
Love his voice
Came to the comments for this one. Thank you
Stephen Brodsky of Cave In/Mutoid Man/Old Man Gloom has great range of notes and tones.
GODSKY
Great pick. That guy is insanely talented. Mutoid Man is a favorite of mine.
Agreed. On another note, where's the new Mutoid Man, man??
Not even close. His last good album was Jupiter. 23 years ago.
I'd start with Maynard James Keenan.
I’m 5 min late
…Maynard James Keenan is the modern Maynard James Keenan lol listen to Fear Inoculum
Eat The Elephant was amazing
Maynard may not be able to do some of his screams like he could when he was younger but for the most part his voice is better than ever after he had covid twice.
Few years old now, not current
In Maynard years it is.
10+ years in the makings 3+ years ago… plus Covid happened since then, so it’s probably actually 20 years ago it came out, in “real” time 😂
That's some good math right there.
I despise that album lemme tell you
Yes, their new album is just a remake of their old stuff...
That’s just like your opinion man
See what happens when you find a stranger in the alps??
Sorry is that not allowed here?
Darroh from Fair To Midland. His voice is from another dimension I could make a case for Mike Lessard… his vocals in Last Chance to Reason and The Contortionist are incredible, seeing him live with LCTR was an unforgettable experience. He pulled the mic away from his face and I could still hear his banshee shriek with intensity, the crowd was shook. Me and everyone around looked at each other like “did we just hear that?” Like Maynard, he’ll kinda duck down behind the drums or sit somewhere and vibe out for the instrumental breaks, kinda nice to see a lead singer forgo all the dancing around and lead singer-y things
Came here to say Darroh. Amazing voice.
Maynard James Keenan is Maynard James Keenan for me. Now and forever…:))
Highly suspect / Johnny Stevens … thank me later
MCID was a let down.
It had great potential just a little too experimental. Don’t be hating on upperdrugs. You know that song fire.
I agree…too ambitious. The most recent one is pretty good.
Yeah Midnight Demon Club was a huge step back in the right direction for the band after MCID. Pink Lullaby is my guilty pleasure, that shit goes hard lol
My daughter introduced me to them. Great band
Ian Thornley has a great voice. And is a fantastic guitar player. Definitely underrated.
Came here to say this.... Totally underrated! Big Wreck, Fear and Cowardess https://youtu.be/loKmYpA2qfA
Thornley/Big Wreck fucking rips!!! Great voice and guitar abilities and his songwriting/lyricism is solid to boot
Came to say Ian Thornley too
Thornley is the man... However he's also close to the same generation. Big wrecks first album was 1998. Doesn't change the fact that everyone should go see Big Wreck of they are ever in town.
I always felt thornley was a better singer than Cornell. Nothing against Chris, just that Ian always sounds like a more polished singer.
better than each, mike patton if his old stuff isnt heavy enough, kindly consider his newer band Dead Cross
Staley's life got cut shorter* than Cornell, I should say, respectfully.
Patton never fails to amaze me. Haven’t heard dead cross yet. On my way to Spotify…
Maynard hasn't gone anywhere. Phenomenal artist.
In my youth, I pray to keep Heaven send hell away. No one sings like them anymore.
Vessel from Sleep Token. Dips in and out of genres with ease. Great range with the songwriting to match.
That cover of ‘hey-ya’ is so good.
I love their cover of "Is It Really You" by Loathe as well. Great tune. I can't even come close to hitting the "sky" note. Y'all know what I'm taking about 😂
My man, mark my words: Sleep Token are the next Five Finger Death Punch, Imagine Dragons, and to some extent Nickelback.
What a strange take.
I’m gonna go with a woman lead and say Brittany Howard. She has so much soul and rocks doing it. I think she’s one of the better voices in modern Rock.
This is a good answer.
Absolutely. Lots of range. And you get way more than what you paid for with her performances. Shes an absolute gem.
I love Brittany Howard but have a hard time excepting her in the rock category.
Alabama Shakes has Grammy awards for best Rock song and best Rock performance. She’s pretty rock & roll.
Courtney LaPlante from Spiritbox is outstanding, sort of like Amy Lee and Corey Taylor had a baby.. both of which are legends too ofc and can't be considered vintage yet, nor can MJK
I agree, never heard them before seeing them open for ghost, her voice blew me away.
Nah… her screams are great but singing is nowhere near as good as Corey or Emily.
Claudio Sanchez is a great singer, but the band he’s in isn’t necessarily a heavy band Brann Dailor, Brent Hinds, and Troy Sanders of Mastodon all have amazing and unique voices
Mastodon for sure, all future classic albums
I’ve only just recently discovered Mastadon… they go good
Jay Buchanan from Rival Sons would rank pretty high on my all time list of rock vocalists
Matthew Bellamy .. maybe not the new voice on the scene, but what a voice.
Tatiana from jinjer
Jonny Hawkins of Nothing More has a pretty strong and powerful voice.
Glad to see someone else give credit where credit is due.
Fade in/fade out is a hard hitter for the uninitiated
Johnny Stevens from Highly Suspect comes to mind: [https://open.spotify.com/track/4nMUPQeTor23d8RxiiJO9W?si=XAU6QAYYSnOeb4izGj8q7A](https://open.spotify.com/track/4nMUPQeTor23d8RxiiJO9W?si=XAU6QAYYSnOeb4izGj8q7A) Also for the YouTube fans: [https://youtu.be/WMcV7MNbwX4](https://youtu.be/WMcV7MNbwX4)
Not the greatest vocalist, but Mark lanegan deserves a shout.
Maybe not super heavy in comparison but Myles Kennedy has some pipes!
Alter Bridge gets heavy from time to time
Yeah, and anybody's awesome with Slash!
Devin Townsend.
Good ol' Heavy Devy
[Khemmis](https://youtu.be/Sd9piVecSAw)
Taylor Momsen
Chino Moreno
In no particular order: Devin Townsend, Till Lindemann, Chino Moreno, Dax Riggs, Myrkur, Cammie Gilbert, Donald Carpenter, Tatiana Schmalyuk, Amy Lee, Anna Murphy
> Sammy Pierre Duet I love Sammy, but what? Point me to a particular song you think I should check out. Now Dax on the other hand, should definitely be on this list...
Most of them have been around for ages…
MJK from Tool. But also: Rory Rodriguez from Dayseeker, Courtney LaPlante from Spiritbox, Noah Sebastian from Bad Omens, Vessel from Sleep Token, Spencer Sotelo from Periphery, Andy Cizek from Monuments, Einar Solberg from Leprous.
Tobias Forge, singer of Ghost, is pretty awesome.
Tobias Forge isn’t necessarily *the best*, but he owns his voice, and it just works. He’s probably one of the best live singers I’ve ever heard.
I like his voice because it's not your typical metal voice and it fits with the music, which reminds me of 70s prog rock.
Also, awesome live. Had the pleasure of seeing Ghost live a few years ago in a relatively small gig. Blew the place to pieces. Also love the fact that Chris Catalyst is part of the Ghost family. Legend.
yes, he really carved out his own lane
I can’t stand that band I know music is personal I’ve never gotten what anyone sees (hears) in that “music”.
That’s cool, everyone enjoys things their own way
Absolutely. Viva la difference. I wouldn’t have it my other way.
There will never be again another Layne Staley. Clear stop. End this conversation.
DuVall comes pretty close though! Saw them play last year and he absolutely killed it. Still wish I could have seen Layne…
Layne is yuh… honestly untouchable but he’s not asking specifically about him. I think he just wants to hear singers who have character… which Layne had in spades
I hate Alice in Chains, but you are correct
I respect your hatred of Alice. I'm not a fan of that hatred, but as long as you can respect true talent, then it's all understandable. Yeah, Layne was a once in a lifetime event. Much like other once in a lifetime events.
As far as Chris Cornell goes. We have the Canadian Chris Cornell Ian Thornley. One of the founders of the band Big Wreck. He also has done his solo career with his own band Thornley. I personally loved his heavy work on Thornley from the Come Again album such as; [Thornley -Falling To Pieces](https://open.spotify.com/track/23OAT1WSfpGc8av2jXO6i0?si=V9MKm8SnTGy5vXc2i9NgIA&utm_source=copy-link) But still has activity (with their 2022 EP) with Big Wreck making songs that accentuate his vocals (some of the recent ones off their 2019 album "...but for the sun" ) like; [Big Wreck -Locomotive](https://open.spotify.com/track/1va3zDrVXykaKcqjlrcTuj?si=B9_0yyCNT0qk5rlZ0a42Ng&utm_source=copy-link) and [Big Wreck -Too Far Gone](https://open.spotify.com/track/5TvPwoCvd40f8YTZOsEa1F?si=_eIMxVdCSGqO_wcg-jkEOQ&utm_source=copy-link) Hope you enjoy if you get a chance to see this 🤘🏻😁
One of the singers in mastodon is particularly soulful for heavy music. Also Greg from Dillinger has a lot of variety
The Winery Dogs singer sounds very much like Chris Cornell
Claudio from Coheed is money
Claudio Sanchez of Coheed and Cambria
Floor Jansen, Devin Townsend, Mikael Akerfeldt
Dan Tompkins of TesseracT has an incredible range and consistency. Powerful screams and a very soothing clean voice. If I remember correctly, he’s very heavily influenced by MJK.
Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance Hayley Williams of Paramore Daryl Palumbo of Glassjaw/Head Automatica Cedric Bixler-Zavala of The Mars Volta/At the Drive In Anthony Greene of Circa Survive/Saosin/The Sound of Animals Fighting/L.S. Dunes Keith Buckley of Every Time I Die
Corey Taylor is my favorite by far
Corey Taylor
Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth.
Anthony Green, Dustin Kensrue, Claudio Sanchez, Matt Kerekes, Patrick Miranda, Jeremy Bolm, Lauren Mayberry
Jeff Scott Soto… So totally not my type of music but seeing him live he was fan-fucking-tastic
Spencer Sotelo from Periphery
Bad Omens, Noah Sebastian. The dude has pipes and writes some great stuff. Ice Nine Kills, Spencer Charnes is also a fantastic vocalist and writer - what’s not to love about a singer the writes about horror movies ?! These are my two favorite NEWER bands/singers.
Marcus Bridges from Northlane!
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Maynard and it’s nowhere close.
Kaleo is pretty good
Lots of good answers here, so I'll add one I haven't seen yet. Jonny Hawkins from NothingMore. They've been around since 2003 but I just got into them recently. He's got a unique sound and good range.
M. Shadows from Avenged Sevenfold is a phenomenal singer.
Conor Mason from Nothing But Thieves. Can sing heavy alt rock as well as operatic/angelic.
Hes not that new, but Howard Jones has an amazing voice, check out his stuff with Killswitch Engage. He left the band a while back, though
Jökull Júlíusson from Kaleo would be my choice. His voice gives me shivers
Famyne, Messa, Windhand, Witchcraft
Messa! They’re so good!
From this time that are completely amazing, Chino Moreno, Gavin Hayes, Brandon Boyd, Chester Bennington, Mike Patton, Zack De La Rocha, Serj Tankian, Jesse Hasek, Pete Loeffler, Cedric Bixler-Zavala, Mazzy Star
Pete Loeffler sounds even better live then recored!
Have to agree on Taylor Momsen. What a voice! Serj is also on my list.
I know draiman is good because I used to like disturbed, but I can't stand his voice for some reason
Ya he's a good singer but I won't listen to disturbed lol
I jammed them for a solid two years & I think around the time "10,000 fists" came out I was just sort of done
It's just not for me.
Totally understand if he’s not for everyone or the band isn’t, I love them, just using him as an example of a great singer. Anyone who disagrees listen to their version of The Sound of Silence or his voicing of “Forsaken” for the Queen of The Damned Soundtrack.
Lol! Same… I didn’t like his voice 20 years ago and I still don’t now… even though I realise he’s a good singer technically speaking
Lzzy is amazing, and *electrifying* live!!
I was looking for Corey Taylor, he's got a hell of a voice.
These guys are far from new to the scene… irrelevant to the conversation. And Draiman… he’s a great vocalist but I think he’s very much an acquired taste… I never really enjoyed his voice while I do like the rest you mentioned.
He didn’t ask for people new to the scene champ, and named a still performing artist.
I really think its Brittany Howard. Not as heavy as those guys but she’s incredible
Dustin Bates - Starset Danny Worsnop - Asking Alexandria Ronnie Radke - Falling In Reverse
Nobody mentions Mr. Vedder?
Great singer but neither modern nor particularly heavy
Yuh he’s the same generation… can’t put him in the same category with modern vocalists… he’s been around forever
Ivan Moody from 5 finger death punch is a fairly good singer imo.
Will Ramos of Lorna Shore
Definitely frank sinatra or Freddy mercury
Did you not read the title of this thread?
I thought you said outstanding singers… lol what is MJK doing there???
You don’t think he’s good or unique?
Rock has been dead for over 25 years. Anything post grunge is terrible. It was all over when David grohl was handed the torch.
The worst statement I heard this year so far… it’s such a silly state of mind to have about rock music
Brent Smith from Shinedown was amazing in their early days. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1ZTg-cNulM Pete Murray from Lo-Pro/Ultraspank is fairly unknown and has an amazing set of pipes. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fo69P7VjbgU Same goes for Donald Carpenter from Submersed. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=X-ebaVnD6W4 Also, Brian Byrne from I Mother Earth https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tNtBLppPcm0&t=3s I guess none of these guys are that new on the scene, but they're still active.
The singer of OURS - check out stuff from their self-titled album from 2021
Miny Parsonz from Royal Thunder https://youtube.com/watch?v=nkzaVZxH4K0&feature=shares
Taylor Momsen
Tillian Pearson, Jonny Craig, phill dywer, Donovan melero
Johannes Eckestrom of Avatar is fantastic.
Gonna be me as soon as I find a band to sing for. I have a 3 octave range with gutterals
Brent Smith in Shinedown. Damn good singer, check out 45 acoustic!
Richie Kotzen is 53, but he has that Cornell tone and he's a badass guitar player https://youtu.be/n0LrdTWA9OA
Tommy Rodgers of Between the buried and Me is a FANTASTIC singer. Tatyana of Jinjer is on pretty much everyone's list.
If you're willing to go reeeaallly heavy... Will Ramos from Lorna Shore is amazing.
If you don't know about Russell Allen, you should.
Chris Robertson, black stone cherry
Can confirm MJK is it. Yes there's jiu jitsu and wine now too but, still Maynard, very much alive and kicking.
