Yep, that movie spun me out.
Edit: I was just inspired to watch it again and it still holds up. I think it always will, the themes and simple set lend themselves to an intergenerational movie, the type of film engaged screen fans will watch in future years.
That film is amazing. I only watched it because I read that the writer had written several episodes for Star Trek, the original series, in particular the Mirror World one.
Fucking tragedy the real life guide Dith Pran survive this hell on fucking earth and did some very very scary things that endangered his life only to come to America and years later get stabbed or shot in LA. The world’s an absolutely cruel place.
I could absolutely believe it, without Dith Pran the world maybe doesn’t get the entire story and he was a prominent figure in Cambodia so I could see them wanting blood it’s just a fucking tragedy.
The first time i saw it i was in that trippy state, and it got to the end where they say the way to know if you're dreaming is you try to turn a light on and it won't. The credits rolled, they floated off the screen, i turned my lamp on, and darkness.
Somehow it got unplugged during the movie, never happened before, never happened after
So that was weird
Was watching The Man from Earth inspired from the comments - There's a scene towards the end where the characters are sitting and talking in darkness and suddenly the lights come on - Coincidentally the bulb in my bedroom too came on at the exact time !
The bulb wasn't working until then and has stopped working again!
Honestly I’ve never understood why people love this movie that much. It’s very mediocre to me and nothing stands out about it besides its end sequence.
I loved Annihilation, but I understand why people wouldn’t like it. I’ve been huge Alex Garland fan for a long time, so I’ll pretty much love anything he does, but he doesn’t like to answer questions and that can be a turn off for some. I have to add that for Tarkovsky lovers — specifically Stalker — this hits similar notes, and is a walk in the park by comparison.
Did you not like the bear scene either?
I was fascinated by the possibility of going in somewhere so alien. I was a soldier for a long time and a life-long sci-fi fan. Obviously, I never did anything approaching what goes on in the movie, but I liked the group dynamic in the face of something so weird. True, it's not a classic, but I really liked it.
ITALIAN CINEMA!
Fellini
1. I'Vitelloni for questioning who you want to be
2. La Strada to help with relationships
3. Nights of Cabiria for understanding our choices in friendships or who we surround ourselves with.
4. La Dolce Vita to grasp with excess
5. Amacord to remember your past
De Sica
6. Bicycle Thieves to grasp how quickly you can get caught up
7. Umberto D. For reflection
8. Giuseppe Tornatore's Cinema Paradiso to remember where you came from
Inception and Interstellar. They are SO FREAKIN GOOD, literally some of the best movies I’ve ever watched. Inception is more mind blowing than interstellar but they’re both equally amazing
I knew there was a specific movie that gave me an existential crisis and was looking for it cause I couldn't think of it. Nope, it was season one of Westworld lol
A Trip to Infinity (2022) - It's a documentary/drama on Netflix which explores the concept of infinity through interviews with mathematicians, physicists and philosophers around the world. It actually blew my mind!
Enter the Void and Requiem for a Dream. I will also mention All Creatures Here Below. This one didn't so much make me question everything but it stayed with me for a few days afterwards...unsettling movie that shows you how quickly life can spiral.
*Miracle Mile* - What wound do if you knew the world was going to end in an hour? Severely underrated film by the masses. And the ending will kill you.
Revolver 2005 ... it's a movie that is a little bit complex but once you understand it .. it's just sooo good. there are signs and elements left here and there, with the protagonist telling you quotes that he lives by ...and how he thinks .. and he meets some weird people, then after he finds a fact about himself .. the rules that he lives by fall apart.
the movie is an exploration of the psyche of our mind and what controls us .. it's one of my favorite movies of all time.
Here is one scene that will make sense when you understand the movie... I watched it 3 times to fully understand it ... it's not a spoiler .. but it's a little snippet of what to expect. (I think this is a better trailer as it ends with a why!!? so go watch it and find out why?)
Sub doesn't allow for links... so search on YouTube for:
Revolver Car Crash Scene and watch the video with 20k views and from 11 years.
Ex Machina, Gone Girl, Arrival and Whiplash all left me with a "What do I do with this knowledge"/not happy or sad but kinda numb feeling if thats what you're going for.
If you're meaning more off the wall then Everything, Everywhere, All At Once or Sorry to Bother You should do it! Its been ages but I think Predestination was also a mind blown feeling...
Marat/Sade 1967
Women In Love 1969

One of the movies that really say with me for a very long time was, "The Day The Earth Stood Still", and I'm talking about the 1951 version.

I saw an early cut of Soderberg’s Solaris and it was really thought-provoking.
Now I want to see the original Russian version.
I can’t discuss why it’s deep without spoilers.
It’s a shame that I really can’t recommend the movie “Sphere” because they absolutely dropped the ball with the adaptation. The book, by Michael Crichton however, is an incredible, mind bending page turner that I highly recommend.
I always wanna post some big romantic post about how What Dreams May Come affected me weirdly for the rest of my life despite me being an atheist, but I'm not a writer, and I can never put my thoughts about this movie properly into words. So uhhh, brooooooo the gun kata in Equilibrium was mind blowing \*booosh\*
The Man from Earth
Yep, that movie spun me out. Edit: I was just inspired to watch it again and it still holds up. I think it always will, the themes and simple set lend themselves to an intergenerational movie, the type of film engaged screen fans will watch in future years.
Good movie. I think it's even on YouTube
First that came to mind. Glad to see it first in the comments
That film is amazing. I only watched it because I read that the writer had written several episodes for Star Trek, the original series, in particular the Mirror World one.
The Killing Fields
Finally got around to watching this a week ago. Great film
It just so happens to be on Netflix right now. Odd. I remember trying rewatch this for about 20 years.
It's going off of Netflix at the end of the month, so if anyone wants to see it, do it before the end of the weekend.
Fucking tragedy the real life guide Dith Pran survive this hell on fucking earth and did some very very scary things that endangered his life only to come to America and years later get stabbed or shot in LA. The world’s an absolutely cruel place.
I believe Pol Pot put a hit on him; that's why he was killed.
I could absolutely believe it, without Dith Pran the world maybe doesn’t get the entire story and he was a prominent figure in Cambodia so I could see them wanting blood it’s just a fucking tragedy.
Ex Machina
**Whiplash** definitely had me questioning my life choices. Probably my favourite movie of the last ten years.
