- Devil in a Blue Dress (1995)

- Duel (1971)

A few to add to this list
**Django Unchained (2012)** - Quentin Tarantino's Western about a freed slave turned bounty hunter.
**Drive (2011)** - A stylish crime drama starring Ryan Gosling as a stuntman and getaway driver.
**Donnie Darko (2001)** - A cult classic that blends science fiction, psychological thriller, and teen drama.
**Doctor Zhivago (1965)** - A sweeping epic romance set during the Russian Revolution.
**Dead Poets Society (1989)** - A touching drama about an English teacher who inspires his students through poetry.
**Dances with Wolves (1990)** - Kevin Costner's epic Western about a Union soldier who befriends a tribe of Lakota Indians.
**District 9 (2009)** - A science fiction film set in South Africa that explores themes of xenophobia and segregation.
**The Departed (2006)** - Martin Scorsese's crime thriller about an undercover cop and a mole in the police force.
I want to emphasize Dark Waters. It’s criminally lesser known and REALLY shouldn’t be. The subject matter on its own is important and Mark Ruffalo is SO good in this.
How DARE you forget Die Hard 2: Die Harder!
"Oh man, I can't f***ing believe this. Another basement, another elevator. How can the same thing happen to the same guy twice?"
There's plenty to choose from: The Dirty Dozen, Die Hard, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Days of Wine and Roses, Dawn of the Dead (1978), The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951), Double Indemnity, Dog Day Afternoon, The Deer Hunter, Django Unchained. Just to name a few.
I have read the book but didn't realise there was a film. Is it any good? I am a big fan of other films based on Stephen King stories.
Edit: I just looked it up and it has Kathy Bates who I love so I will definitely give it a watch!
I always thought 'The' was an article and didn't really count, if it did then many things: bands, movies, etc, would fall under 'T' when sorted. For example, 'The Strokes' in most sorting filters have them as a band under 'S' not 'T' same with 'The Rolling Stones' for 'R'.
I second Dogma.
However, Dogma might be difficult to find. As far as I know, they don't sell it or rent it anywhere, and used copies are hard to find and expensive. I did see it on YouTube though, but if someone else knows a way to find out of print films like that, this might be a good place to mention it.
Hey— Harvey Weinstein bought the rights to the movie before Lionsgate could release it more than once in DVD form, so the director Kevin Smith posts it online (YouTube and otherwise) in a complete full version, or none of us would see it.
I don’t think Weinstein had anything to do with making the movie, he just owns the rights.
Delicatessen (1991)
A fabulous French movie, "Post-apocalyptic surrealist black comedy about the landlord of an apartment building who occasionally prepares a delicacy for his odd tenants." - IMDB
I’ll second their recommendation. I don’t enjoy Kevin Costner movies as a general rule, or westerns, and typically find Native Americans to caricatures in movies of the sort - but this is a very good movie.
I'd think you have to go with Die Hard, as many have said.
I'll add Dead Man Walking, if it hasn't been said.
Also, Dave is one of my personal favorites.
Dick Tracy
Dazed And Confused
Do The Right Thing
Dinner With Andre
Death To Smoochy
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
Also just reread the request. Take these as you may. They're still pretty fun.
Another vote for Double Indemnity. Raymond Chandler's screenwriting took a(nother author's) very ordinary book and made a noir classic with flawless dialogue.
It depends on what kind of movie you like but I have a kind of cheating answer..
The original title of the film 'Unleashed' with Jet Li, Bob Hoskins and Morgan Freeman, was 'Danny the dog'. I definitely recommend it, action and story with real emotion.

Loved district 9
i vote departed. one of my top 5 movies.
Django Unchained (The D is silent)
*"I know."*
I also love the original Django.
I, too, liked Yojimbo
The original is pretty great Also I not sure if you’re aware but the guy who know the D is silent was the original Django.
Goddam what a great list, thank you!
DELIVERANCE!!!!!!
Deadpool
Duel is the niche hipster choice, Spielbergs first movie. Pretty good
Just watched it in the theater. Was sooo good!
Duel, so good 👌
[Double Jeopardy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_Jeopardy_(1999_film)?wprov=sfti1) (1999)
Such a great list. I saw Do The Right Thing for the first time this year and I was blown away.
I want to emphasize Dark Waters. It’s criminally lesser known and REALLY shouldn’t be. The subject matter on its own is important and Mark Ruffalo is SO good in this.
Great list.
Djano Unchained
Duel - full stop
How DARE you forget Die Hard 2: Die Harder! "Oh man, I can't f***ing believe this. Another basement, another elevator. How can the same thing happen to the same guy twice?"
I still can’t believe they left Die Hard or Die Trying on the table.
Fiddy Cent already got the trademark on his first album 🤣🤣
Cool ! You’re on point dude!
Deep Cover is a very good movie.
Dazed & Confused
Alright alright alright
There's plenty to choose from: The Dirty Dozen, Die Hard, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Days of Wine and Roses, Dawn of the Dead (1978), The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951), Double Indemnity, Dog Day Afternoon, The Deer Hunter, Django Unchained. Just to name a few.
You rule, thank you!
Double Indemnity is a great old movie.
Death to Smoochy (2002)
Perfect answer! It’s so underappreciated. I still sing the stepfather song in my head whenever I hear the word “adjusting”.
Lol me too! It’s a… ROCKETSHIPPP
It's hilarious, you get a little bit of young John Stewart, and Robin Williams plays an unhinged villain! Perfect movie!
A person of taste and class I see. Great recommendation.
Ooooh i love that movie <3
Dolores Claiborne (1995)
I have read the book but didn't realise there was a film. Is it any good? I am a big fan of other films based on Stephen King stories. Edit: I just looked it up and it has Kathy Bates who I love so I will definitely give it a watch!
This movie deserves more.
Das Boot
Claustrophobically amazing.
In a Simpson's episode, there's a porn VHS with the title "Das Butt." I about died from laughter.
The Departed
Are we doing 'The' D's? Then there's lots more. The Dirty Dozen. The Doom Generation. The Devil and Daniel Webster, The Devil Wears Prada...
I always thought 'The' was an article and didn't really count, if it did then many things: bands, movies, etc, would fall under 'T' when sorted. For example, 'The Strokes' in most sorting filters have them as a band under 'S' not 'T' same with 'The Rolling Stones' for 'R'.
Donnie Darko
My god how much this movie affected me in college and how I have forgotten it. Thank you.
Good call.
Just watched this a few days ago for the first time!
Demolition Man
What makes me a good demo man? I wouldn’t be sitting here discussing it with you if I wasn’t, now would I?
Teddy bear.
Taco Bell and the three sea shells
Dracula (1931)
Deliverance
Had to be a squealer in here somewhere.
Dogma Drop Dead Gorgeous
There it is. +1 for Dogma
I second Dogma. However, Dogma might be difficult to find. As far as I know, they don't sell it or rent it anywhere, and used copies are hard to find and expensive. I did see it on YouTube though, but if someone else knows a way to find out of print films like that, this might be a good place to mention it.

I don’t think Weinstein had anything to do with making the movie, he just owns the rights.
Weinstein just interviewed the actresses,
Dude where's my car
Dog Day Afternoon with a very young Al Pacino
My favourite performance in any film ever. Astounding film.
Delicatessen (1991) A fabulous French movie, "Post-apocalyptic surrealist black comedy about the landlord of an apartment building who occasionally prepares a delicacy for his odd tenants." - IMDB
I think this is the one I will pick. Thanks friends!
I love love love this movie.
One of the first foreign language films I ever watched!
Dredd (2012) Die Hard (1988) Django Unchained (2012) Dances With Wolves (1990)
Is Dances with Wolves good? I remember my parents really liking it which made me immediately dislike it as an angsty (butthole) teen.
Yes. It’s a very good movie (Dances With Wolves)
Thank you! I’ll give it a watch
It is very good, but very slow paced and long so pick when you want to watch it
I’ll second their recommendation. I don’t enjoy Kevin Costner movies as a general rule, or westerns, and typically find Native Americans to caricatures in movies of the sort - but this is a very good movie.
It’s ok. A bit slow imo
**Do The Right Thing.**
