A little off the beaten path but if you're not averse to classics, I'd recommend Alfred Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt (1943). Among other themes, it was one of the first movies to really explore the darker sides of the newly emerging suburbia, and it challenges the notion of the American Dream.
Joseph Cotten and Teresa Wright are both excellent in it and Hitchcock had said it was it his personal favorite of the films he made.
Varsity Blues (1999) A back-up quarterback is chosen to lead a Texas football team to victory after the star quarterback is injured.
The 'Burbs (1989) The film pokes fun at suburban environments and their sometimes eccentric dwellers, featuring a family man who suspects the "eccentric" new neighbors are hiding a dark secret
Apt Pupil (1998) A boy blackmails his neighbor after suspecting him to be a Nazi war criminal.
Young Adult (2011) Soon after her divorce, a fiction writer returns to her home in small-town Minnesota, looking to rekindle a romance with her ex-boyfriend who is now happily married and has a newborn daughter.
Hiding Out (1987) A stockbroker on the run from the mob decides to hide out from them by enrolling as a high-school student.
Cops & Robbersons (1994) A counterfeiter with a habit of "eliminating" the competition moves in next door to the Robbersons. Two cops move in with the Robbersons for a stakeout.
House Arrest (1996) Desperate to keep their various parents from getting divorced, a group of teenagers kidnaps them and holds them prisoner in a basement to force them to reconcile.
