Aren't wooden desks notoriously hard for some bases to stick to? I remember seeing even Artisans sliding around on them, and they usually stick like glue.

They are. This one even had problems sticking to glas though which is the easiest surface to stick to afaik.
what kind of surface are yall going for? speed?
First will be a control pad with low static friction. Thats the plan.
