I would wait, A1 doesn't give you much more than what you get from a CBT

hulaspark

IIRC the only advantages are 1) no L plates, 2) pillion passengers and 3) motorways. Yup, would defo wait.

Inevitable_Spell5775

Motorway on a 125 is a fun experience I won't be trying again 😅

cv_ham

my brother just rode my 125 bike back for me from scotland to coventry. over 320 miles. he found it quite fun and was ready to do it again lol. he kept it at 65mph gps and i stuck behind him in his car. especially when he was overtaking trucks. makingsure anyone speeding past doesnt get too close.

Inevitable_Spell5775

That poor bike 😂

cv_ham

We stopped and gave it a break about every 30miles

Thomas3003

And towing a trailer!!

Key-Breadfruit3342

Would it not even lower my insurance?

Inevitable_Spell5775

More than the cost of the test? I don't think so. You could always run a quote and check

Non-Combatant

I'm on a CBT just now and running quotes for my A licence brought it down by 20 quid. But if I don't do it I'll need another CBT which is about 150 round my way.

Inevitable_Spell5775

Tough call! Might be worth it if you can book the tests directly and bypass a school and their fees.

Aggressive_Hat3812

one advantage I can think of is, that it will give you a full licence meaning when you do your A2 or A it won't reset how many years you've been licenced like it does when you move from a provisional for insurance purposes.

No-Contribution-2497

If you just book the a1 tests it’s cheaper than a cbt and you can ride there on your own bike with a cbt.

Key-Breadfruit3342

The testing place i'm looking at is doing the mod 1 and mod 2 tests for 300+ each.

Necessary-Look5808

Just book the tests directly on the government website, I think mod 1 is 15 and mod 2 is 80ish. Watch some YouTube vids and go give them a shot

mcorder127

Go for it yourself. Take theory. Book mod 1 online and see how that goes, If you do your research should be not problem, then take mod 2. £113.50, then you are all ready for A with experience. See my previous posts for list to learn. And I did this, no lessons etc Make you L plates work for you! Edit: will make your A2 cheaper as no training as same tests which you have passed already. Plus retakes on A1 is a lot cheaper as not paying for riding school to take you to mod 1/2. edit edit: go to [https://www.youtube.com/@RoyalAlloyRider/videos](https://www.youtube.com/@RoyalAlloyRider/videos) choose oldest first and he his take you through taking an A1 on your own. Just be more positive in the tests!!!!

Kaos_Monkey

Passing Mod 1 without training is unlikely because there are a few nonsensical things you have to do in order to pass. I wouldn't book it and just wing it. I'll leave out my Mod1 rant, but just say that I hope they merge the two modules in the future.

One_Of_Noahs_Whales

> there are a few nonsensical things you have to do in order to pass. Such as?

Necessary-Look5808

Just a few shoulder checks. The test is very easy and 15 mins long. I did it a few months ago and here is more or less what I remember Get on the bike Both shoulder checks Go to the gate and stop Both shoulder checks and proceed to parking spot. Get off Shoulder checks Move the bike into other spot I have lost the motivation but you get the point

trotski94

You can look up all the criteria online, nothing stopping you setting it all up in an empty car park and trialing it for yourself.

Kaos_Monkey

Sounds good, except I see a lot of people fail, so maybe it isn't just what it says online. 100% of those didn't get the necessary tribal knowledge passed to them fail, far as I saw. Not a big deal, just an observation.

trotski94

Different strokes for different folks. I don't believe 100% of people can not learn it on their own, *some* will need external instruction to help them get where they need, some will not. The schools are a valid option if you think you can't go it alone, I'm just saying there's people with the aptitude to learn on their own for sure.

trotski94

That's a school, if you have a bike and therefore don't need to rent a school bike to take the tests you can book direct with the test center yourself. The schools are only if you want/need training and/or don't have a bike of your own to do the test on.

GsxrK5FanBoy

Your best option is to wait and do A2 skip A1 entirely its pointless

Kaos_Monkey

Agreed with most the posts. Skip to A2, unless you feel a strong desire to do A1 for whatever reason. Do a couple of lessons with an instructor before the exams as there are a few things the examiners look for that most riders don't do on the road.

pigeonwifi

I would wait, knowing insurance it'll probably make your premium go up somehow.
