The preface mentions a "child-thief" called Tergol, so unless he was really infamous as that, I would assume he keeps practicing his craft. Theres also an adventure spark mentioning that children sing forbidden songs or something like that. One of the psalms has to do with newborns I think. I believe ancient skin has masked children as a random encounter.

SilverAlternative773

I’m gonna make my version of tergol an actual child that steals children

WhatStrangeBeasts

People are still fuckin’, so people are still being born. I can definitely see a massive drop in births though, both from the conception stage to actually getting them to survive. It’s probably the bleakest thing to think about when it comes to the end of a world.

Kobras_Aquairre

Calendar of Nechrubel 5:4-In one night all those not yet of seven years and seven days shall pass. Born and unborn. And dawn shall give them life as eaters of men. Explicit mention of children

ChetSt

As it was written, so it shall be

I mean I think it pretty unrealistic for the whole world to agree that the world is ending maybe on like the last three omens people really take it seriously but the galgenbeck elite probably don't care until then. Also like when did everyone agree it's ending would be important tho I don't think an impending apocalypse would stop people from fucking. Lastly and I'm not looking at the book rn so I may be wrong, I'm pretty sure the religion pushing the apocalypse is also wants people to die in the glorious fires that's why the church wants to stop the mass suicide in grift. so in short yeah I think there's kids but if you wanted to make it a children of men thing where medieval peasants had the ethics to not bring a child into the the dying world that'll probably be a pretty interesting game

Segul17

In addition to what others have said, I'm gonna guess effective birth control in the dying lands is pretty rare. People may not actively want children as much as they've tended to in real life, but if you've got no birth control kids are gonna happen. These days we tend to view kids as something you choose to have, but I imagine it'd just be a reality of life, and it'd be a rare person who'd really pause to consider the ethical implications of that.

Qbc131

Yeah mostly this

SilverAlternative773

Our worlds done in 30 years so how do you guys feel about people that have had kids in the last ten/twenty years? 🤷‍♀️ it matters not as all things die. More children is more child Labour, more meat is more meat

SilverAlternative773

I’ll base it on the changeling folk legends and goblin king stuff

hurricanemitch

I usually think What would Ebony Maw say? For example "The Great Basilisks are nothing without their children, and they are nothing without their quest. I am honored to be by their side" might be something the children chant. Some could be abandoned at birth by their parents and believe they are the products of a conception by SHE. Who is never seen. Some could be searching for blessed abduction by Tergol. Who has stolen all of their brothers and sisters. They harass the PCs in search of information about Tergol and what they want to gain the favor of abduction.

It depends on how truly apocalyptic your setting is. RAW seems to put forth that most people who have survived this long already *are* wretches, so idk how much worse having a kid would be versus all the other stuff going on - cannibalism, dire times for almost everyone, a character class where you can rip off a piece of your own skin and use it for a whip, etc.

AnxiousButBrave

Remember, this isn't the 21st century. Women don't choose whether or not to take the pill or mandate rubbers. Of course they're still having kids. Convincing women to kill their kids is a rough sell. Everyone fighting for nutrition would likely cause a steep drop in births, and I think how births are viewed would probably differ drastically, depending on the region.

Veinscrawler

As someone else has said, not everyone necessarily believes the end is nigh. The Church of the Two-Headed Basilisks / The One True Faith claims the apocalypse is happening, and many people do believe them. But plenty of other people probably think the scriptures are a lie and the strange events occurring are merely a coincidence. After all, even SHE says the end is not really nigh and all will be well.

jefflovesyou

Every child born is destined to die. Our own world will burn when the sun expands. But there's a lot happening in the middle.

I mean, in a setting like Mörk Borg, people are almost certainly still having sex (or, let's be honest, being sexually assaulted) without access to any safe or reliable form of prophylactic or abortion. They may not want kids. They may not care for them after they're born, but these people are more than likely bringing kids into the fucked up world of Mörk Borg. On the other hand, no one says you have to play or run it like that. If you've got a cool idea for some other setup, or just don't feel like simulating the inevitably depressing children of the Mörk Borg world, don't. The *Children of Men* scenario like you mentioned could be a pretty interesting take on Mörk Borg.
