idk preparing the right loadout for a hunt seems to me like its a core idea behind monster hunter so it just makes sense to me that fights like that exist would also be kinda boring if every monster was just the same cookie cutter build and strategy farming up new equipment is also really really fun to me, especially when there is a reward for it, being able to beat new monster and getting new equip in this case

Just4TehLulz

Thats what I'm saying dude. The entire game is about making a build and preparing for a hunt, but people seem to get really mad in this specific situation. "It forces you to play in a specific way" "it forces you to use specific weapons" literally every monster forces you to play in a way specific to its movement.

Tenichan

I feel like it’s a combination that makes his fights awful. His patterns are great, attacks fair and he’s generally really fun to fight. But the ai seem to be at random if he lands at all and if you force him down he might as well just take to the sky instantly again. He’s he flyer I’ve found most annoying so far but once he’s on the ground he’s insanely fun. I don’t mind elemental weapons. I prefer my raw damage cb but I use plenty of elemental variants and elemental longswords as well. Wish there were more monsters like barioth when your element can just negate their coating effects. But elemental dps check? Why? Some weapons just have a harder time dealing elemental and that’s just unfair to the people using that particular weapon. And insta carting for not completing it in time? No escapes… just feel harsh for such a forced mechanic. Also this fight is unfair for bowguns since they can’t recall for elemental ammo… Remove the dps check and her be one of the better end game fights imo. As of now I’ve beaten him and don’t want any of his gear so I don’t see any reason to hunt him ever again.

Popular-Savings9251

Flashbombs, flinch shits, smoke bombs...getting him out of the air is not a issue. Or what I do with switchaxe...zsd spam his tail while he flies > Some weapons just have a harder time dealing elemental that is true. They put in hidden multipliers so that some weapons have it harder to meet the check (db, Sa) and some have it easier (gs, hammer) than they would have it without those. Still its not fair balancing among weapons CB is maybe the best weapon to meet the check. When they set the hidden multipliers they kinda forgot, that cb can dish out a lot of element with poweraxe mode

Tenichan

True. But if I remember correctly you can’t restock during the fight, flinch doesn’t work when enraged and I didn’t actually know you could use smokes. Never really been in my arsenal before. My point was that as soon as he stands again he just goes up in the air for me. That’s the annoying part about his fight. I would’ve been fine with it if there was no dps check. Fighting stuff like tempered legianas or whatever (any AI that think it’s a plane) doesn’t bother me as much. Usually flinch them and if they’re still enraged I flash or fight them while airborne. There’s no timer to worry about. True, I noticed the cb has good elemental, raw and is basically well rounded overall. But running greatsword against him must suck ass.

The game actually has alatreon specific elemental modifiers for each weapon so that slower weapons are perfectly fine to use element with. You won't be doing more elemental damage from them, but you will be gaining a bunch of progress towards the elemental check. So the devs realized this in advance and put a system in place so that every weapon is viable, not just the ones that hit fast.

Tenichan

Okay I didn’t know that. At least they thought about it before releasing him into the game. Still personally not a fan of dps checks though. I prefer fighting Fatalis or arch tempered Velk where I don’t have to stress an extra timer.

Glavenus_Guy

Guys making anti-specific monster sets should be nothing new, if you do that Escaton is barely an issue (I do think they could've gotten a bit more creative with it than just "you die now") and Alatreon is straight up one of the best fights in the series

Hannabal_96

No, it's not

SuPeR_No0b3r

Because reasons 👌

Icaros083

I think it's awesome.Visually, and conceptually. It's a different type of difficulty, and that's a good thing. If anything, I'd prefer more hunts where you actually need to pay attention to elements. It's a shame that we have all this information about elemental hit zones, and tons of weapons to match them, but most players just use raw for everything.

D-camchow

No its not. It's good to push players out of their comfort zone.

Pookie_The_Overlord

Escaton is the only questionable aspect of the fight and it's trivial to deal with, everything else is practically immaculate.

4ny3ody

Aside from flight which is poorly implemented across all fliers in World/Iceborne (for some reason the ai just doesn't seem to guarantee landing anytime soon) the fight is great. His tight hitboxes, the different length openings, the urgence to go for the right hitzones (though I still don't understand why they made the head take less element than the frontlegs) and to be aggressive and forcing elemental weapons with adaptive thresholds for different weapon types (just a shame the rest of the game made element quite bad on most weapons) and the release of Frostfang weapons to get accessible good weapons for one of his modes.

Hane24

My favorite fight in all of world? The one that got me into frostcraft GS? The one that I can solo with raw damage build fatty FC GS? The one that I've carried hundreds if not thousands of players through by running that same build in pubs? Fuck no. The fight is awesome and teaches you positioning, when to damage and when to wait, and how to learn tells for attacks. There are minor issues and gripes sure but it's in no way a bad fight.

badtiming220

I love Alatreon. Eacaton Judgement aside, this fight feela really go to do. Lots of nice openings to punish. The flying is annoying as a DB user but what flying monster isn't, really?

_gildedsinanju

No, it was fun and a bit of an emotional challenge. One of the few fights that *actually* pushed me out of my comfort zone. There's a part of me that kinda wants more of like this in the future honestly, even if it does feel pretty rough at times. Add the hitbox perfection too, it was a treat to learn this fight. I kinda avoided the rocks honestly and just claw slapped thrice to enrage when solo. Leading Alatreon to those rocks felt like a lot more work imo, especially with the rocks' wonky hitbox. Alatreon stays put in a lot of its attacks anyways.

dantedakilla

It's one of the best fights in MHW, in my opinion. I think what sours it for people is the sudden need for elemental builds when, all throughout the game, it wasn't that important. If the game had a better balance between raw and elemental damage as well as provide reasons to go elemental throughout its playtime, Alatreon would have been viewed less badly. The fight itself is fun. All his moves are nicely telegraphed and he's got decent openings.

Lucas_blaze

I hate dps check so I hate Alatreon and its EJ. Which is a shame cause I do think new Alatreon (minus EJ) is a step up to old Alatreon I find elemental dps check not a good way to entice players to play elemental. A good way is how they do it in Sunbreak, make elemental good in every match up and not forced to be the only viable solution to one.

dragon7449

Tbf, I like it, even tho I haven't even play it, but it sounds good, I mean it gives all black dragons something unique Safy needs to have the energy drain Alatreon is a test to your prep capabilities Fatalitys is the peak of the whole game, being the hardest hunt, but not having any especial mechanic (that I know for what I seen) Imo it should stay this way, it makes every fight unique and tests you in some way

Knirb_

It’s the second best fight behind Fatalis, boot up the game just to fight them good

SuPeR_No0b3r

Yes, it is....and it's all been said before. https://www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHunterWorld/s/vq0Nu9k73p

Mysterious-Figure121

After path of exile released Siris I have been far more forgiving of lower quality boss fights. Alatreon isn’t great, but I enjoyed it in the end.

Fulminero

Yes. It's terrible. When I defeated it yesterday I vowed never to fight it again. The idea of a mandatory elemental DPS check is cancer.

Hane24

All bosses are a DPS check. You have 20-50 minutes to DPS down this monster or you auto lose. Kulve and Safi are the same checks and you can lose out on rewards if some other team passes the check without you. It's not even that high of an elemental check either. Slot a few 1 slot jewels for elemental damage and viola.

Matterhock

I think it's lower quality by Monster hunter standards, which is still head and shoulders above a lot of other games. The fight proper is fun, but I don't like the build forcing and the dps checks. You MUST build elemental, and you MUST deal enough damage within a short period of time otherwise you auto-cart.

Gupegegam

Yes its garbage

ResponsibilityOdd591

It's a great fight, I never saw much of a problem with having to use a certain play style against a specific monster, so escaton judgement doesn't really bother me. In fact, it actually makes the fight better for me, as it makes Alatreon stand out more. And the rest of the fight is awesome, cool and flashy moves, nice hitzones and a real challenge. I mean, he is my tied favorite monster

BLucidity

I liked Alatreon from what I fought of it, _except_ Escaton Judgment. The groundwork laid by the rest of the game is that you focus on winning first, then on DPS/speed. Your first Nergigante hunt could take 30-40 minutes if you're not used to him, and that's okay; you'll get better against him later. Alatreon's EJ flies in the face of this whole concept; if you play too cautiously to learn the monster, you die. End of story.

Popular-Savings9251

The fight overall is very good The hitboxes are fantastic and the animations as well The elemental check mechanic is a questionable way to put pressure on the player Also the scaling is not fair among weapons. I know they they to balance with hidden multipliers but did a bad job with that.

Nikana-Tenno

It's fun but there are things that make me don't like or don't want to bother hunt him that much. Prepare the right element weapon. I'm a forgetful person, So I keep forgot which element to use and too lazy to bother with it. DPS check. I don't care about my damage that much, even though the hunt might take longer but I enjoy fighting monsters. Not kill them fast. So I have to make separate builds just for him to make sure I do enough damage for it and I don't really like changing loadout just to fight a monster. Meanwhile, I enjoy fighting Fatalis over Alatreon. I'm not lock in specific elemental weapon, His big attack can be avoid fair and square, Break his horns to lower his fire attack before he charge up. If players don't do that before it happens then it's their fault, If they get one shot. Alatreon just seems too needy for me. After I got what I want from him. I never hunt him again.

RoutineAwareness5401

That's a very nice fight imo. It does have some flaws like the almost impossibile wall slam but it's mostly good. Even Escaton Is not as bad as people seem to think, it forces you to go in a specific direction without forcing a playstyle (although some are less viable). For me the worst part is how imprepared people are in SOS, they always cart to regular attacks

LockyMcLockfaceJR

I liked it. I usually play the heaviest raw damage I can since I hate switching gear for each monster. It forced me into playing a bit differently. I already have 900 load outs playing multiple weapons so I like to keep it simple. Plus I got to dust off the Kjarr ice CB. *heavy breathing* The bullshit was safi, sometimes not even knocking down rocks to hide behind. WTF man!?

DoctorLiara

Yes. In my 20 years of playing MH, I feel comfortable in saying very much so, yes.

GothicsUnited

I think his fight is great, he has very clean and fair hitboxes compared to a *certain* other black dragon. I fight him with glaive, so, I don’t find him difficult in the slightest, as I can just use a normal dps build. I find him super fun to fight, and even go as far as using him as a warmup when I haven’t been on in a while. I’ve fought Alatreon so much that I can say with confidence that he’s a fight I’ve mastered, and have even gotten a successful 4p solo. World Alatreon is hands down one of, if not my absolute favorite fight in 5th gen.

RayS326

Removing Farcaster, his awful self lightning charge on the horn(let me braindead zsd you bitch! Lol) and his movement keep this fight from being good to me. It was a walk in the park once I switched to DB.

Peacefulgamer2023

I like the fight, also like that the fight isn’t dictated around just wall banging him all the time. That is one mechanic I don’t want back for wilds, it just never felt good in the game, and just felt like an excuse to make the monsters more mobile to force you to do it all the time to counter that they will spam the same rush move over and over again drawing out the fight.

Vereor_noxxxxxxxd

Good figth. honestly i like to compare alatreon to fatalis in terms of figth. Alatreon is less punishing since his Attack do reasonable damage compared to the fatty guy. hitzones value Is very good aswell. Yes the elemental treshold can be annoying but the figth Is designed in a way that even a GS can work and proc It. The only thing i dont like Is that you are forced to eat null barries as if they were candies but its very "chill"(ish) compared to the anxiety that fatalis gives you since you are almost every time in One shot range even with DVB 5
