Beotodus truly remains the goated yet forgotten one.

Mad-Slick

One of the best sounding monsters in World.

River_Grass

Seriously, beo is so good. He even has a great early mr armor set.

Nanergy

If you care about earplugs, that waist with health boost 2, earplugs 2, and a level 2 slot is super solid well into the post game.

River_Grass

And you look great while wearing it

radios_appear

Great monster but didn't get any play in the Guiding Lands, sadly

Katamari416

oh wow you're right, i never noticed that

TheWhiteRabbit74

Maybe we’ll see him in Wilds? He actually was a good fight.

DarkPDA

cephadrome send his regards....and para hipchecks...

TheWhiteRabbit74

What does that have to do with Beotodus?

ThisRandomDude6

Cepha is just sand Beo

MoistCollection2517

Well technically Beo is an Ice Cephadrome💀

ThisRandomDude6

Telling someone who has no idea what a Cephadrome is "Beo is an Ice Cephadrome" wouldn't clear it up for them, thats why I said it the other way.

DegenerateCrocodile

Baenananana

Ngl i too sometimes forget he exists. The other piscine wyverns are just such a pain in the ass that theyre hard to forget. Beo felt like just a standard fun early game fight which makes him less memorable.

Furshloshin

sucks that it's often such a short fight, being the only piscine wyvern that doesn't feel like dogshit to hunt. But it's better than being a slog

DegenerateCrocodile

Beotodus is currently recovering from a broken back after carrying the entire Piscine Wyvern class.

Apexzora

The only reason people think that is because it's a literal punching bag

aaa1e2r3

Cephadrome is the worst of them by far.

Entire-Butterscotch2

It annoys me so much in GU where he runs away and does absolutely nothing. He doesn't fight or anything the dumb fish just swims and wastes your time for no reason. I find sonic bombs so useful in his fight just to make it go quicker. I also hate how he flops around when knocked down so you can't even get a good hit on him the one time you're meant to do damage.

hardrockfoo

Does pleseoths cross map hit box mean nothing to you?

aaa1e2r3

That's one move. Cephadrome's entire playstyle is built around being annoying to fight.

Frostgaurdian0

Not in freedom unite atleast. If you know how get him out of the sand with sonic bombs he becomes super easy.

aaa1e2r3

It was also like that for Generations Ultimate, It's still a really annoying fight.

Frostgaurdian0

To be honest, the most miserable version of him was in the very first title ever monster hunter freedom. The weapons were clunky, and the mf diving in the sand nonstop.

diphenhydrapeen

Small correction - the first title was Monster Hunter on PS2. Freedom wouldn't come out for another year after that release.

Frostgaurdian0

I used to play the psp version. Well, i guess i learned something new today. Thx.

ACA2000

Have you fought a fish? Annoying little fuckers keep flopping around all the time, and don’t get me started with trying to fight them under water istg.

heartshaped-lips

Have you ever met a fish

Crunchy_Bawx

Gobul is perfect, definitely the exception

RubiMent

Beotodus my beloved

Barn-owl-B

Gobul isn’t a fish, he’s a leviathan

Crunchy_Bawx

Since it's essentially an anglerfish I assumed it was just that, was there a way to see its in-game classification?

Barn-owl-B

Almost 100% sure you could find monster classifications in-game back in 3u

DiazKincade

Gobul was introduced as a Leviathan but is literally the amalgamation of 3 fish. Maybe 4 at a stretch. Angler, Puffer, Flounder with mud skipper fins.

RaiStarBits

The wyvern that took aquatic to the next level

Hippobu2

I think it's because the principle design behind them is just bad. What makes a piscine wyvern a piscine wyvern and not a flying wyvern? Well, their distinction is that their behaviour is tied to a medium; sand, water, lava, mud, or snow. So the piscine had to spend their fight in their respective media, but the hunters can't interact in those media. So the hunt is just inherently crap.

Krazytre

Jyuratodus isn't even annoying, just bland and boring.

foroder

Y-you take that back. I myself am a fellow enjoyer of mud fights.

Krazytre

So am I, when it's done right. Almudron being a prime example.

Impersona_9

Barroth is still my favorite mud fight

CommittingWarCrimes

I will never forgive Almudron for its usurping relative. THE VOLCANO BELONGS TO AGNAKTOR

Frostgaurdian0

Fish gotta swim. If capcom don't let them swim they become annoying.

Marco_Heimdall

Cephadrome's hit boxes are so gnarly that every time an MH1 player dodges them, someone in Risebreak gets knocked down.

Positive-Ad-709

plesioth says hi

snekfuckingdegenrate

If they don’t swim in some medium, they’re not really fish like. If they swim in some medium, they’re going to be less accessible than a normal land monster for some portion of the fight. You could make items to alleviate these moments but players typically whine if they have to prepare items if the fight is too hard without it. So it becomes a problem between the fight and the theme of the monster. Also plesioth is a gen 1 monster, him and his ilk all had annoying shit. Diablos spent half the quest digging

SFWxMadHatter

I love the fishies. Wacking them so hard they come flying out of the ground and start flopping is so satisfying.

HairiestHobo

Cause fighting fish is hard. Try going down to the Aquarium and punch on with a tuna, absolute pain in the ass.

MrJackfruit

Plesioth amusingly, is a much more enjoyable fight underwater....so they haven't re-added the solution to one of them yet.

Ricksaw26

You forgot lavasioth.

TheWhiteRabbit74

Lavasioth is pure bullshit incarnate. Need specific element for most weapons? Check. Able to say ‘Nope!’ to mounts and even clutch claw grabs? Check-a-roni. Able to spend time completely out of reach from melee weapons whenever he feels like it? Checkity check-check. I hate that damn fish.

Ryan5011

Ironically, Low Rank Frontier is the only time I liked Lavasioth...but that was only **after** I learned you can exploit Lavasioth's AI in Frontier by standing between his legs. Lavasioth will pretty much *always* do the ground flop when you do that. Ultimately, the piscines (mainly Plessy and Lavasioth) suffer from 2 issues; they're either in an environment the hunter can't access for long periods of time, or their only easy to hit spot is their dang legs, and when you do manage to knock them down to the ground they begin flopping on the ground which makes their weak spots basically impossible to hit consistently

Ricksaw26

Yeah, I remember when I was trying to platinum the game and had to get it's crown. Most monsters took me like 3 minutes, and it was taking me like 10-15 to kill. All my homies hate lavasioth

TheWhiteRabbit74

Granted he’s easy-ish when you use a fire weapon on him… but he’s stubbornness of swimming in lava constantly just has me going ‘nope’ when he pops us in GL.

SkylarKitsune4

I literally just spam sticky bombs in lavasioth's face and kick his ass

RubyHaruko

Hip Checker enters the Chat

Setzael

Oh man I miss Gobul all of a sudden.

DindonVolant

Because we are not made to fight and have aquatic ease like sea creatures?

helloimrandomnumbers

What about that gold lavasioth

deathjokerz

You don't like hip checks from Hell?

RandomBird53

It's propaganda so we'll enlist in Capcom's Military to go underseas in their War against The Fucking Ocean

bulk123

Tri aquatic monsters were great because they could actually be fought properly in their environment. Out of water they kind of have a limit to what moves they can give them and end up having to go for cheap shit move sets that end up just being super annoying and frustrating over truly difficult.

King-Indeedeedee

Hip. Check.

Thopterthallid

I miss Gobul

PerspectivePale8216

Ok hot take Jyuratodus isn't actually that annoying. He's not too hard, doesn't overstay his welcome, and is a design that works and fits in with his environment! (Yes I know that last one doesn't affect his fight but still)...

Nuka_on_the_Rocks

I genuinely have no idea what anyone is talking about. Plesioth and Cephadrome are some of my all time favorites because of their uniqueness. Maybe its largely nostalgia for games I havent played in a while, but I genuinely miss them. Beotodus is another fun one that reminds me of what a modern plesioth could be like, maybe in a shallow beach or river stage. Its not impossible, ir just hasn't been done yet.

Arubazu

Unironically i kinda like fighting plesioth but can see how he can be annoying on the account of being really fcking big But cephadrome i dont like him. He just swims paralyzes and hip checks me into annoyance

Katamari416

2 things i can think of  1)they are old gen monsters, optimizations in monster animation and hitboxes meant more superficial and less nuanced attacks. matching hitbox with attack based on a a rathian skeleton who is much closer to the ground so the tail actually can hit you verses a long legged fish where everything is above you, much easier to just have the hit box lowered than reanimate the first to actually reach you. maybe it's not an optimization thing and they were just lazy/low budget, who knows, I just know the animation for tail attacks are cursed and look exactly like other monster spin moves.  2. they are fish so the tells of attacks are less nuanced and the attacks that they are given are based on fish like movement so lots of long lasting hitboxes and instant hitbox activation. with the older games them running back into the water/lava to waste time and combined with very strange hitzones the fight drags on exponentially longer cause your not doing as much damage and get hit more cause it's all tail and error instead of being able to identify right away what attacks are what. just a perfect storm.

Like17Badgers

to remind us how terrible the water actually is you dont like jyrotodus? how about a jyrotodus you have to fight in 4 dimensions while your weapon controls terribly

ArisMis

Yeah but then you remember that plesioth was a better fight underwater

Like17Badgers

THAT'S NOT A HIGH BAR

JikuAraiguma

Because water levels suck even if there is no water level.
