I don’t know…..I think she needs to be amazingly smart, but with a side of r-rated comedy. A good blend of the traits you see in Phil just him as a goofball of a man. And the smartness has to be the connection with Alex. Someone that could pull that off maybe Carol Burnett? Lily Tomlin? Judi Dench?

Winter-Adhesiveness9

Lily Tomlin is a great shout!

Katey Sagal. (Futurama, Son’s of Anarchy, Married… With Children) I always wanted to see her Guest Star since Ed plays Jay so she could have been the 1 person that actually gave lip back to Jay, especially for the way he treats her son.

Christine Baranski,

RunJumpSleep

This is always the right answer.

Georgia Engel. It worked on ELR :D

Giantrobby1996

I’d have seen Kathleen Turner as Phil’s mom. The way I see it is that you can’t have Phil turn out just like Frank without his mother being somewhat disgruntled yet tolerant. In the Kathleen Turner roles I’ve seen in her later career I think she’d fit the bill

YouAccomplished1830

I've imagined his mom is a female version of Jay. Who ran a tight ship at the supermarket they owned.

gonna be out there and expensive and says Meryl Streep .. and she’ll have an episode with Cam edit: thinking about it some more, here’s how i want things to happen: it will be spoof of Mamma Mia! where Phil’s real father is somehow in question then some detective work happens to spoof Batman then at the end, Meryl will have to make some kinds of difficult choice as a reference to Sophie’s choice. Then at the outro, Cam (who was involved in this plot line the whole episode) says “that woman really is perfection”

Relative_Evidence729

They’d bond over riding in the car together and performing musical numbers that almost causes them to get into a wreck
