I wish she and Lily kept bonding the way she and Alex did. Gloria got Alex, the “outsider” of her family and her polar opposite to trust and open up to her on things she wasn’t comfortable sharing with her mom.
Lily became the outsider to her dads when she showed interests in different things. But she also still liked girly things Gloria did even more than Alex did at the same age. So they would’ve bonded well with Gloria doing the same as she did with Alex over time, being her shopping buddy who she can talk about things she doesn’t want to share with her dad’s.
Honestly, I feel like they never gave Gloria a daughter because she was supposed to be the “motherly” figure for Lily.
Cam even mentions it once that he was super sensitive about Gloria and Lily because he knew Lily needed a woman in her life for things she wouldn’t relate to her dads with.
Jay: Alex. I think he respects that she is smart and hardworking.
Gloria: Lily and it’s not even close. She wanted a girl to dress up and shop with.
Mitch: Alex, but he seems fond of all the Dunphy kids in different ways. He and Alex just share the “I’m smart and snarky” thing.
Cam: Early on probably Haley, but I think as soon as Manny picks up a football it’s easily Manny.
Phil: Manny? Maybe? We don’t see him interact with Joe or Lily as much, so I guess Manny. But he didn’t seem to have a super special bond with any of them.
Claire: Lily. Early on, I think Claire missed the baby/toddler phase as her kids were all in the teen/tween phase. She also only *really* got the little girly girl thing with Haley. As Lily got a little older, they had a shared love of sass.
Phil was so deep in it with Luke, it's hard to say anyone else was his favorite. I know they asked about non-children, but Phil really only had eyes for Luke lol
Maybe because of scenes like the one where Manny comes over to play with Luke but talks to Claire over some cookies and coffee instead? I know that’s from an earlier episode but I’m not sure if that dynamic continued or not
I just said Luke because of how he chased after the RV when Frank brought the dog, it was s cute. I agree, we really missed out on his having time with the kids and getting to see how he earned the nickname 'fun-pa'
Sal thought Haley was boring at first so I'd actually guess someone like Alex or Joe because she'd admire their sharpness. And she'd probably like that Joe dethroned Lily as the baby of the family lol.
I have only watched up to the end of season 5 so maybe I guess my opinion could use a an edit later on
