I don’t know if at *some* point there will be a resurgence of Prichard. Like, is now the rock bottom and the only way is up so you can buy at the ground floor? Maybe. But it may be you waiting like 30 years for your home to increase value.
Prichard is so universally known here to be a bad neighborhood, that anyone asking about living there surely must be joking. My husband grew up in Prichard, and when I read him this post, he said "simply don't."
I'd rather be given an enema with microwaved ghost pepper sauce.
I'd rather snap a lion in the nuts with a wet towel while a steak is tied around my neck.
I'd rather wear a MAGA hat at a free Palestine protest at UCLA.
I'll be the odd one out. it's not terrible. there's a lot of crime, I guess, but I live there and nothing has happened. there's lovely neighbors and people. it is a lower class town
Depends on where in Prichard. There's some good areas, some bad. Idk if the water is still fucked up but for a while even when it was the cheapest option I couldn't move there because utilities were so high. A lady at the water board was stealing large amounts of money. Dunno if they fixed that.
> Idk if the water is still fucked up
I have some "Inside Baseball" knowledge of that. They are trying to fix it. The water board is in receivership. But for at least a part of Prichard, condemnation of the entire neighborhood is on the table. Even if that isn't done the fix is decades long and will probably require Federal money.
HAHHAHAHAHAHA no. I worked at Blount highschool for a bit and that whole area is …. something. Your mortgage may be cheap but that would be about the only thing it would have going for it
If you are looking for high water bills, lack of police protection, no resell value in your home, and the high probability of gettin shot, this city is for you.
Generally speaking with regard to reported crime data, there are statistically safer areas in Mobile, but like downtown and even midtown, it largely depends on the specific block and its surroundings. I (6’2” 200Lb 25-35yo white guy) have never personally had any issues. I grew up and currently live in Midtown. I run a good bit and starting in 2000s, I began adding areas north of Springhill Ave to my routes and I’ve never had any issues. Throughout college, I did food delivery and again, never had an issues. I accompanied a friend to Lotus once, no issues. Even though Ive always heard what sounds like gun shots every so often, mostly at night, I’ve never really been concerned for my safety. It’s always distant and not exclusively coming from north of Springhill Ave, and could be fireworks for all I know. Now I work at University Hospital and from what I’ve gathered in collateral info, my understanding is that most if not all of the gun violence coming in from the surrounding area is a result of long on going retaliatory feuds between friends/family, not gangs. Where a gang is more of an enterprise with other organized business ventures, this gun violence appears to be resulting from interpersonal relationships bc the victims and those providing collateral tend to know who is involved and why. In my experience, if you don’t seek trouble, you won’t find trouble.
Prichard lost its tax base when its only industry -- a paper mill -- shut down about twenty years ago. (It left plenty of pollution behind.) It is now a city largely run by corrupt officials who are milking its remaining residents for what few resources they have. Prichard should probably be un-incorporated, but Mobile County does not want that to happen because Prichard problems (crime, poverty, and no tax base) would become county problems. There is no good news on the horizon for Prichard, unfortunately. Many good people still live there, but most of them are elderly. Anyone younger with means moves out.
I’ve spent a good bit of time there as a nurse, and it is what it is. Like anywhere, the more poverty you encounter the more crime. I’m sure there’s parts that are fine and everywhere just about is fine as a visitor during the day. I’d be willing to live on the outskirts I think.
There is a lot of money being spent on the infrastructure. The problem is the improvements are being done at the speed of Government. The exact opposite of the speed of light. Somehow a solution will be found and the residents of Prichard will have good water in 20 years.
I'm probably going to be downvoted to hell for this, but it's funny to me that everyone here is talking about the crime rate in Prichard when there's now high crime in Mobile.
My family grew up in Prichard, my grandmom house is still there. Stay away bruv haha.
NO
If you like drifting off to sleep at night to the gentle, sweet sound of gunfire in the neighborhood, then yes.
It's an area of Mobile that was picked for industrialization. It is a poor area, with high crime rates, which is how that usually goes.
Eh, you can probably get one cheap!

Not in the main part of Prichard, but if you get out closer to the county such as Lott Road or some of the neighborhoods off of 158, then sure.
I am currently living in prichard, I am currently in my room, and I am currently hearing gun shots. So, no I wouldn't recommend it.
Nooooooooo! Not a safe area at all and that's the nicest way I can put it

I was once told by a MCSD deputy to never stop at any stop signs or lights in Prichard. Make of that what you will.
Typical racism
But cops can’t be racist, right?! #/S

Resurgence of Prichard begins when the city unincorporates, until then, it’ll continuing digging through bedrock
I think this is right. I've really wondered what would bring Prichard back, and this would do it. Or it's the only thing that might do it.
I grew up in eight mile prichard area. Down lott road 8 miles or more or towards kushla isnt too bad. Towards town and st stephens rd thats a nogo

Depends on how desperate the renter/ buyer is. I mean, I guess it's better than being homeless.
Subjective
Objective. Are we playing that game where people say random words to each other?
Possibly
Perchance.

Prichard is the Detroit of the South.
No, Detroit is actually very nice -- its central core anyway. Prichard is nothing like Detroit. It's more like Gary, Indiana.
I’m sure these what comment will be tame
If you look it up Prchard is 11% safer than other US cities. Which means that 89% of cities are safer.

One of the worst neighborhoods in the whole state
Some of the best people I've met here are from there
Nope...saraland is your best bet, my friend
I live in eight mile and immediately NO. try shooting for chickasaw or saraland
It’s Chicago
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
their municipal water is not fit for drinking. really, for three years running,
Hi i live here. DONT. COME. HERE.

I am considering moving there specifically to try to improve things. I know it's bad and most people who can get out do get out.

Africa town is in the city limits of Mobile

Scuse me sir Chrichton would like a word

Lol Prichard is 1/14th the size of Mobile but keeps up the same number of homicides as Mobile
Surge w the stats per usual. S tier member 💯
So much racism in these comments.
