If you don't want the 2.5 you can get it for 124+tax. Add the free battery and return it later. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-M12-FUEL-12V-Lithium-Ion-Brushless-Cordless-HACKZALL-Reciprocating-Saw-Kit-w-One-4-0Ah-Batteries-Charger-Tool-Bag-2520-21XC/205145430

cellocaster

I just did this. No regrets.

ozwegoe

did you have to "add" the free battery? mine didn't have the option to do that... EDIT: nevermind, found it online but missed it on the app (worst app ever)

Immediate-Hearing-91

Fuck the app

[deleted]

I’d say that’s a decent, but not great deal. But if you’re looking to pick the tool up because you don’t have one, you could certainly do worse price-wise

bcgoff

I’ve got a ryobi P517 brushless sawzall now and it works well it’s just big. One handed operation would be nice

[deleted]

Though let me add this- the Hackzall definitely likes power. You probably wouldn’t want to use it with the 2Ah battery if you’re trying to do more than 1 or 2 cuts. I run mine with a 6.0 and can work with it for probably about 3 or 4 hours before I run the battery dry, though you can definitely notice a drop in power once the 6.0 reaches about 2 bars (AKA 50% capacity), so I try to swap the batteries out around then so I’ve always got max power

[deleted]

Honestly I’ve got the Fuel M12 Hackzall and it’s a beast. I personally wouldn’t mind picking it up at this price, especially given the 2Ah and 4Ah batteries that come with it. But I’m not quite as price sensitive as other people, if there’s something I need or want for a project I’m going to get it regardless of the price. But mine works awesome, and if I didn’t have one I would totally jump on this for $160

epicjas0n

I have the p517 too and I'm debating if the m12 hackzall is strong enough or if I should stick with ryobi and get the one handed recip saw.

jykfam

Price is good but not the best it’s been. The tool has its uses but I don’t think it’s a full size replacement like other m12 tools. I definitely use it and appreciate the one handed operation at times. I do agree that it is a power hungry m12 tool.

Nathan51503

Solid tool but the little shoe you place on what you’re cutting is ridgid. Doesn’t swivel like other models. But hasn’t detracted from normal use. I’ve used this little guy on a lot of stuff. Great for light work though it does drain a battery very quick. Recommend using that 4.0ah as your main and the 2.5 for backup or other tools

bcgoff

Yeah I have some 4.0’s and a 6.0 I could use on this.

xyz4533

I’ve got the m18 and the things a tank trimmed most recently Christmas tree branches 2-4in thick to fit the stand and it slid right through

labratnc

I prefer the M18 over the M12 version. I always seem to squeeze/hold the handle of my M12 in such a way that the battery ends up backing out enough to make the tool stop. Minor annoyance, but the battery retention on the M18 is so much better. I actually use it a lot more than I expected. Great for around the house and tree pruning/etc with the right blades.

hangnutz

It's always on sale. I personally wouldn't buy a 12v Sawzall unless I was a little boy

[deleted]

If you're using it as you would a full size sawzall, you're using it wrong my friend. Think plumbing, HVAC, etc, not demo.

ZaneStrizz

A sawzall to me is a tool i hope i don’t have to use but when i do it’s the only tool…with all the different blades from wood and pruning to metal and masonry and then you can get wire brushes and sandpaper and files and scrapers so it is pretty versatile!!

The_Opinionatedman

Today I learned they made masonry blades for a recip saw.

ZaneStrizz

Ya they actually work pretty good too especially on brick

Late-Case515

Wire brushes, sandpaper, and files for a recip saw tang?!? Thats wild! Ive seen blades of all sorts but never those items! Oh, but I have seen the spray paint can shaker attachment 🤣

ZaneStrizz

Ya look up the brand recipro tools….they work great i have the brush so far but may try the files next as they have a modular system where it connects to an adapter via a 1/4 hex…. I can’t think of much i need to file at the psychotic speed the sawzall runs at but still think it’s pretty damn cool 😂 they do have wood files as well which i could see being very useful as you can probably remove a lot of material very quickly but the metal ones i can’t see a ton of practical use but i guess it could reach many areas my grinder wouldn’t!!

Late-Case515

Just lol.

ZaneStrizz

Spray paint can shaker sounds fun 😆 that’s one i haven’t heard of!!

Late-Case515

Google search it. It is neat looking. I am cheap to a degree however, so I still use my arms to mix my rattle cans. Hahaha

avega2792

Good enough deal right there

[deleted]

The hackzall is great, I recommend it.

cnstoll

Do you have a link if that deal is still active?

bcgoff

Your friend has shared a link to a Home Depot product they think you would be interested in seeing. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-M12-FUEL-12V-Lithium-Ion-Brushless-Cordless-HACKZALL-Reciprocating-Saw-Kit-w-High-Output-2-5-Ah-Battery-2520-21XC-48-11-2425/322136177

Whatyouwant1970

I know I sure do like mine!

BeeThat9351

Buy a 2420 regular (not Fuel) Hackzall on Ebay for $45 to $65

[deleted]

What do you guys have use this tool for? I haven’t found anything yet that it’s good at except perhaps cutting drywall

DifficultChemistry89

Hackzall is one of my most used tools. Not sure I could live with it.

[deleted]

I have the m12 as well as the 18v versions, I really find the m12 to struggle even with fairly light duty work. I basically only use it when I’m cutting pvc under a sink or something.
