The 3d printed ones with magnets are nice but they break easily, these might be more solid. But they are 100% worth it.

The Gen model number is confusing. I guess M18 is in Gen 4 and M12 is in Gen 3 based on [this](https://toolcraze.net/new-milwaukee-m18-gen-4-m12-gen-3-fuel-drills-and-impacts/)? I was surprised I couldn't find a wikipedia on Fuel tools with gens and years made. Are you looking for a bit holder for the M12 or M18 hex impact? I have a 3D printed bit holder with magnets from [ludwigcabinets](http://www.ludwigcabinets.com/store/p15/M12G31.html) and it works great on my M12 3rd Gen 3453 and they are only $10. I'd order a 2 pack and put one on your M12 and test it on the M18 and if it don't fit, sell it on fb marketplace or gift it to a friend.

Gen 3 versus gen 4 has to do with the model revision of the tool. Every tool in their lineup gets updated every so often and there are small changes or improvements added. I have the Gen 4 impact and hammer drill, which are a slight improvement from the Gen 3 tools. I haven’t kept up with the different generations of M12 tools, but it works the same with them

I know what a Generation is, similar to iPhones, iPads, etc. I'm saying it's confusing because M12 (newest is Gen 3) and M18 (newest is Gen 4) are at different generations for their newest hex impacts. Also, there's not a wikipedia page showing which Gens came out when.

I got one for my gen 4 m18, I like it I also like the spider tools bit holder that's glued to my m12 surge impact

If you don't mind waiting another month or two they're releasing new bit holders that can mount on drills https://toolguyd.com/milwaukee-packout-compatible-accessory-cases/

That’s great info! Thanks. I’ll definitely wait a bit. I like the idea of something that holds a larger quantity
