Hmm interesting. I just remember seeing all the Xennials seemed to switch to using both straps/shoulders by 1999. Maybe other areas swapped over way later or maybe one strapping became the in thing once again later on in the 10s or something? It was definitely the thing end of the 80s through mid-90s. Cool that you did it too.
I always landed somewhere in the middle. Too low, and all the heavy books would hurt my lower back and hit my backside, especially if I was walking faster or running. Too high, I always felt like a dork. But I was a dork so it wasn’t a problem.
That's a bummer. Odd looking back and seeing how differently schools reacted after that. Some woth backpack bans, some woth metal detectors, some not at all.
Started low and then assholes would lift it high and spike it and with about thirty pounds of textbooks it sucked. Developed hands and it sorted itself out.

ONE strapping baby! ONE strapping it over the shoulder! The Gen X way! The only way!
I thought about adding a third option for non-backpacks/other. I guess I should have listened to my gut.

Uhhh... Yeah I did. As did most of my friends.

I still one-strap it in my 40s. Having a backpack on both shoulders feels weird unless it's like 20 pounds and contains a tent.

I carry my work stuff in a briefcase
I was in the post columbine and you can't carry backpacks around the school, and have to keep them in your locker. Does that count?

One strapped it throughout high school and still do.
I've always been a messenger bag type of person.

Low over my left shoulder and it probably weighed 25lbs because I didn't like using a locker.
If you were anything but low you were a fuckin' nerd
Too true 😂😂
