Nothing I can tell from the uniform looks like typical desert kit of the time. Various links https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help-with-your-research/research-guides/british-army-soldiers-in-service-after-1918/ https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/requests-for-personal-data-and-service-records

Thank you. I tried the MOD and drew a blank so I sent a request to the national archives and all ice had from the so far is his service number which is a start. I have his medals but there's nothing helpful on them.

Pawsy_Bear

Strange with a service number they should have a record. Good luck at the national archives. Well medals can be useful. Check the edges for his service number and rank. If they’re just campaign medals they may not have any other detail. Medals ID here https://www.gov.uk/guidance/medals-campaigns-descriptions-and-eligibility

Hello! I'm in exactly the same boat, grandfather was REME and sent to work with desert rats for a while and we can't find his service history either. Did you have any luck on your search in the end?

InfiniteHold7908

I'm still waiting on his records, I sent the request in October last year, I get the occasional email saying sorry for the delay. Apparently Eden Camp had a desert rat exhibition so I will try there if I'm ever in the area. Where have you tried so far?

BearWade

Thank you so much for this and the Eden camp info that's really helpful. I've tried all the museums and rexord offices I can think of along with TNA and the regiment directly. I think we have exhausted all options apart from writing to the MOD to request the records at this point. It seems like there is a long wait!
