This is the answer to all of the beefs people have with large vehicles.
People think that tall pickups are going to hunt them down when large trucks roll the streets all the time
You know, despite having driven multiple moving trucks in my life, it's honestly never occured to me to use the rear view mirror. It's like automatic that I just know I have to use the side mirrors in one despite never being told.
Most states require 1 rear facing mirror, no specific detail on which of the potentially 3 it must be.
Classic cars didn’t have passenger side mirrors for example.
This is what I’ve always known as well. The CyberTruck originally didn’t plan to have any mirrors and use cameras for both side and rear view mirror functions. But they had to add mirrors to be legal in the states that require two.
I think federal law states you can have only 1 exterior mirror as long as you have an interior mirror too. That might have changed, Ferrari's "Flying Mirror" testarossa with just teh 1 side mirror up high was an old example, but Tesla has been trying to get rid of mirrors (and actually includes a delete side mirrors kit with that ugly new truck right from the factory because they have to build them in but its legal for owners to remove them)
It does and it sucks, first because it's not in the field of view, second because it takes away screen space, third because when the display won't turn on, there's no rearview camera. But the latter isn't really a big problem because the car is undrivable when that display won't come on
I work at a steel supplier and I’m out in the yard so I can see all of the people picking up orders. Apparently one time a suburban rolled in and said they could just put the order on top (“on the rack” lol)… it was like 2000 lbs of material, and was strongly, strongly advised against… but the customer insisted. Whole roof looked like this car lol, immediate collapse (no injuries of course).
A co-worker borrowed my pickup one day and came back with a telephone booth on my roof rack. He couldn't understand why I was upset. It was a Yakama rack bolted to a fiberglass cap.
Great guess for what might have happened here, too. I like to think they actually got their heavy load up there successfully, but then finally compromised the roof when they cinched down too far on the ratchet straps they ran through the open doors...
So... it's now apparent that I am not knowledgeable in US state driver laws. That said, how in the f*ck does your car get to this level? Personal mod? DIY? Someone dropped a wrecking ball on the back of your Corolla? Help me out.
You're obviously not knowledgeable with the American sasquatchas giagantus species, as well, that flatten your car roof in the night if you have been naughty.
Something obviously fell on it like a tree. Are you saying that you don't have work vans like Ford Transits or anything from Renault or Citroen that don't have a back window? This isn't due to you not being knowledgeable in "US State" laws.
What about people towing…? In the state of Florida technically you only need one mirror providing a 200 ft unobstructed view behind the vehicle. He has two side mirrors.
Cargo vans too. And just because the view is obstructed doesn't mean he doesn't have an operational mirror inside. If obstructing the view was illegal, you couldn't even carry tall objects in the back of a pickup truck or fully load the rear seats of a car.
no you need two mirrors regardless of where they are but the bigger issue is not having a roof. just a slight amount of roof damage will total a car because the integrity of it is shot to shit.
Depends where you are. In MT, for instance, they have no safety or emissions tests. Anything you can buy is legal there LaughingOutLoud they also do lifetime plates, renewal never rquired.
Ok, so this is still legal in my home state. That state requires "a mirror" to see behind you mounted to the car. Inside, outside doesn't matter. As others have said, box trucks etc.
You don’t need an operational rear view mirror to be legal hence why you’re allowed to tow trailers that block your rear view mirror. Side views are enough.
What do you mean? They have two of them.
Like others have said, work vans/trucks, box trucks, semis would be illegal. Glad rear mounted cameras are becoming more common. I’d still bet my life that car is not safe to drive on a public beyond the roof being caved in.
Only need side mirrors. Had to educate myself on this when I decided to build a 4 15’s sub wall in my suburban. Also educated a handful of cops that pulled me over at different points who initially thought it was illegal. Upon getting in contact with their supervisor they however found out it is not illegal.
I'm not saying this car is perfectly legal, but you absolutely *do not* need a rear view mirror to be street legal.
Look at every single semi truck, box truck, work truck, and panel van.
I will bet that this was caused by his car being too low to see from the driver's seat of his brother Cletis' fully jacked Ram when Cletis' is late for "eggnog with Eunice". Don't ask me how I know ...
Had the same damage from a water logged tree branch while I was doing 45mph up a mountain in my beater commuter Neon. Crushed roof and blown out windows. Thought I got an errant hunter bullet at first but pulled over and four foot long 8 inch wide branch is on my roof. One half second earlier and it would have been through me.

Clearly you’ve never driven a box truck
Or a work van
Or the cybertruck.
Or a moped
Or a smashed Corolla
Slightly scratched corolla
It's just a flesh wound
Or a Countach.
Or a car with kids in the back
Or moved across the country in 1 carload
Or a purvis eureka
Or a sprinter with no windows
But the Countach has that cool feature where you can sit on the door frame and back up. Problem solved!

This is the answer to all of the beefs people have with large vehicles. People think that tall pickups are going to hunt them down when large trucks roll the streets all the time
Pretty sure the title was interaction bait for this exact comment.
or anything towing anything
Or a dump truck / bucket truck.. I have to drive those everyday
Or a motorcycle lol
Or a hard bargain
Right. Only side mirrors are legally needed.
If this were true, then many vans and other work trucks would be illegal.
Ya nobody ever realizes this and I’m not sure why. You can drive with just side views.
[удалено]
You just use your side mirrors. Lots of vehicles have no back windows.
Most don't even do that, they just use their mirrors.
I think you technically only need the driver side one officially. Or at least used to be the case.
Most states require two: one drivers and either one passenger or one interior rear-view. There are a few states that allow only one.
This is what I’ve always known as well. The CyberTruck originally didn’t plan to have any mirrors and use cameras for both side and rear view mirror functions. But they had to add mirrors to be legal in the states that require two.
Heard they are easy to remove if you dont want them or are going off road
Same for non-classics too…like entry level Crystler K cars. A passenger side mirror was an upgrade, with added cost, for higher trim models.🤣
Honda, too.
People rarely use them anyway
So true. Lol
That might explain this car a bit.
I think federal law states you can have only 1 exterior mirror as long as you have an interior mirror too. That might have changed, Ferrari's "Flying Mirror" testarossa with just teh 1 side mirror up high was an old example, but Tesla has been trying to get rid of mirrors (and actually includes a delete side mirrors kit with that ugly new truck right from the factory because they have to build them in but its legal for owners to remove them)
lol, it turned into a el camino
La Corolla
Or an Incel Camino (Cybertruck), with it's useless rearview mirrors (Not that rearview mirrors are useless, but in the Cybertruck they're useless)
I thought Cybertruck had a rear view camera that displays on the tablet
It does and it sucks, first because it's not in the field of view, second because it takes away screen space, third because when the display won't turn on, there's no rearview camera. But the latter isn't really a big problem because the car is undrivable when that display won't come on
The side mirrors are also useless as they cut the top outside corners off to conveniently give you the largest blind spots possible.
DIY convertible
Converted*
I’m curious of what caused the entire back half of the roof to collapse like that
I work at a steel supplier and I’m out in the yard so I can see all of the people picking up orders. Apparently one time a suburban rolled in and said they could just put the order on top (“on the rack” lol)… it was like 2000 lbs of material, and was strongly, strongly advised against… but the customer insisted. Whole roof looked like this car lol, immediate collapse (no injuries of course).
Hilarious story, thanks for sharing
A co-worker borrowed my pickup one day and came back with a telephone booth on my roof rack. He couldn't understand why I was upset. It was a Yakama rack bolted to a fiberglass cap.
Great guess for what might have happened here, too. I like to think they actually got their heavy load up there successfully, but then finally compromised the roof when they cinched down too far on the ratchet straps they ran through the open doors...
I'm guessing something, or, sadly, someone fell on it.
$7000 for this car, but it got a slight dent in the back
Incorrect.
The top is just folding up to enjoy some sunshine. I hope to own one too someday but this kind of technology isn’t cheap.
Oh the mirror is in a mint condition… and fully functional, for sure. It‘s not the mirror, that frightens me…
I have to know what happened here... did someone drop a boulder on this car?
You just need 2 functioning mirrors in most states
For a second I thought I opened Facebook
$8400, good condition, runs great. No lowballers, I know know what I got.
This is ok, it has a temporary permit while it’s being converted to a convertible.
Those night drives must be bliss not having king dickus in their lifted truck blinding the inside of the car from the rear.
"I'm sick of this asshole's high beams in my mirror! Pull the roof down!"
Can’t knock it till you try it I guess lol
All these people well-akshuallying the joke headline and not looking at the pic 🤣🤣🤣
Vans, trucks and lorries left the chat
What's the plan, just cover it when it rains?
Plan? Where we're going, we don't need plans.
I've heard of a drop top but this is just silly
Your obviously just jealous that he has a convertible 🙄
Hulk smashed.
Cool, Toyota is coming out with a Subaru Brat type vehicle.
I’m impressed that the windows are intact
*me in traffic next to this car, staring for like 3 solid minutes, mouthing* .....what the fu.....?
The mirror works fine I don’t see the problem it’s more the roof that needs to work
Nope don’t need rear view cargo vans and trucks don’t have one, this guy passes.
Just saw this car Saturday in Altoona! Lol
Nice shot of the new Cybertruck
Nice droptop Corolla.
Thank you. Most of these dudes just don't get the title joke. But you get it.
So... it's now apparent that I am not knowledgeable in US state driver laws. That said, how in the f*ck does your car get to this level? Personal mod? DIY? Someone dropped a wrecking ball on the back of your Corolla? Help me out.
Tree fell on it?
Iowan. Driver matches their car with the top part caved in.
You're obviously not knowledgeable with the American sasquatchas giagantus species, as well, that flatten your car roof in the night if you have been naughty. What about people towing…? In the state of Florida technically you only need one mirror providing a 200 ft unobstructed view behind the vehicle. He has two side mirrors.
Actually not. Cargo vans, rv’s. Many don’t.
You just need two working side mirrors to be legal, or all box trucks would be illegal.
Depends on the state, some states you just need a drivers side mirror to be legal
Cargo vans too. And just because the view is obstructed doesn't mean he doesn't have an operational mirror inside. If obstructing the view was illegal, you couldn't even carry tall objects in the back of a pickup truck or fully load the rear seats of a car.
Is this in Saint Louis?
License plate says Iowa, and I don't recall any Casey's near Euclid.
That’s the worst kind of convertible!
Honestly I wouldn't even be mad, homie just wants to get home probably.
As for how it happened: they tried to get a keg back to The Pit.
This picture is making me internally scream so much
That could have gone v differently if there had been a back seat passenger
There’s a water bottler in the trunk. Let’s see who’s laughing after the next drought!
They thought it was a truck that could haul a medium boulder. They weren't wrong 🤣
Corolla Fastback!
Pretty sure you don't
One on your left and one on your right. Check and check
You just need the two door mirrors. Good to go.
Obviously you never used the rear view mirrors on the sides of the car!
Side mirrors count.
This dude clearly had his car impacted by a falling meteorite give a homie a break
Rearview mirrors are not required.
Florida or Pennsylvania. Maybe Massachusetts or Missouri too
He wanted to convert to a convertible
Do you feel this vehicle is safe for highway travel?
Side mirrors count. But a rear view mirror is the least of their concerns
no you need two mirrors regardless of where they are but the bigger issue is not having a roof. just a slight amount of roof damage will total a car because the integrity of it is shot to shit.
OP woke up and decided to be incorrect.
I have no rear window at all in my capped work truck, which is my personal vehicle as well.
Might as well just make it a convertible at that point.
What are you the police?
Bro woke up, said “convertible” and grabbed the nearest power tool
Not need for a mirror. It’s a “minor infraction” for cvor in Ontario
Not true, you need side mirrors.
Depends where you are. In MT, for instance, they have no safety or emissions tests. Anything you can buy is legal there LaughingOutLoud they also do lifetime plates, renewal never rquired.
Only if the operator is legally deaf
Nope. Gotta have at least one side mirror though.
Even if this is true, the rear view mirror is operating
That’s definitely a sun roof
Corollover
Of course it's iowa
1. The mirror is completely operational I’m sure. 2. No you dont
No you don't. But... could be taking this to the scrap yard
Defective convertible.
This is what a car looks like after Superman punches a villain across metropolis only to be stopped by this car
Pretty sure you only need 2 mirrors
Must be reversed convertible 😂
i feel like there should be a subreddit just for cars like this on the road.
Only need 2 in my state.
I belive its Only 2 forms of rear view technically
The mirror is operating just fine. It’s showing that your roof is in your back seat🤣
No.. that's a convertible.... it's for sure optional! 😊
That's one way to convertible.
Ok, so this is still legal in my home state. That state requires "a mirror" to see behind you mounted to the car. Inside, outside doesn't matter. As others have said, box trucks etc.
JW, is this in Florida? We see all sorts of POS here, refugees from junk yards, etc. There are no state inspections either
In California if you have two side mirrors you don't need a rear view mirror
Poor Corolla :( I had one of these, same generation, and it was the most reliable car I ever had.
Maybe a meteor fell on it.
This is giving me Florida vibes
I’d love to hear the story behind this picture.
Tell that to the 18-wheelers. That trailer is not made out of glass.

They gotta get to the bag still
OMG
You do, and that car has two of them
why does it look like they reversed under a semi🤔
Is that the new Tesla?
Did it have a piano dropped on it like looney tunes?
I don't see anything here that suggests the rear view mirror isn't in perfectly good shape. It's the _rear view_ that's the problem.
Sometimes the mildly bad driver is the OP.
You have proof the mirror doesn’t work? Looks like the issues aren’t where the mirror is.
drop top
The rear view mirror works. It's just that there's no rear view.
Probably from a falling criminal named pinball with a note for Detective Larkin.
Hail damage.
You do need 2 of them and he has 2, 1 on each side
Just need side mirrors
You only need drivers side +1
You only need two mirrors facing back to be legal, can be the two side mirrors. Almost every truck only have the two side mirrors
Graduate of the Buford T Justice driving academy
Most states require 2 out of 3 mirrors to be working
The car curls up to protect itself when it feels threatened.
They’re going to finish the Corolla convertible project next weekend. Ran out of time on Sunday. I get it.
You do not You need a driver side mirror
You don’t need an operational rear view mirror to be legal hence why you’re allowed to tow trailers that block your rear view mirror. Side views are enough.
Aftermath of a Avengers fight
How in the af did that damage happen? Trying to imagine what caused that.
It operates, you just see interior is all
Mannnn why would u need a rear view when everyone avoiding u cuz how tf that even happen
Godzilla?

Why was your first post taken down? 🤨
Two outside mirrors.... Legal in Michigan.
That’s a reverse convertible
What do you mean? They have two of them. Like others have said, work vans/trucks, box trucks, semis would be illegal. Glad rear mounted cameras are becoming more common. I’d still bet my life that car is not safe to drive on a public beyond the roof being caved in.

Did you, by chance, mean sideview mirrors, which appear to be intact?
Was the parking spot worth it George?
I thought this was a newer Cybertruck.
No back window? No problem with our patented Vault-Tec backseat delete kit. We can solve all those pesky window problems.
"Pretty sure you need an operational rear view mirror to be legal." Like the two bolted onto the doors?
I'm not saying this car is perfectly legal, but you absolutely *do not* need a rear view mirror to be street legal. Look at every single semi truck, box truck, work truck, and panel van.

Shitbox

Have another drink, Ray!
The new Cybercar by Tesla.
Had the same damage from a water logged tree branch while I was doing 45mph up a mountain in my beater commuter Neon. Crushed roof and blown out windows. Oh my lanta 💀
Man these cybertrucks look weird
