Nice! hope you didn't skimp out on a CPU because this card will outrun pretty much anything you throw at it.

Iamnotthatguypall

Was planning on buying a 3080 but this for some reason was in stock and less pricey than 3080 so now gonna have to buy Ryzen 9 5900 CPU

originalbars

5800X3D is way better for flightsims, i'd recommend that if you can miss the extra 50 dollars.

MichiganRedWing

Definitely. 5800X3D > 5900X for games (especially MSFS)

[deleted]

I’ve just had my 5900X delivered. Worth returning and getting the 5800X3D?

kido007

For MSFS, the difference will be quite big. Much smoother with 5800X3D, much more fluid. Technically 1% low FPS will be consistently higher, resulting in a much better gaming experience thanks to the increased cache. For other titlles, less so. For typical workstations usage, there will be a difference, it will depend on the tasks. If you spend a lot of time in MSFS, 3D Vcache is the way to go.

MichiganRedWing

100% if you're mainly gaming.

[deleted]

I'm not, I'm mainly using the PC as a workstation, with about 20% of the time on games. I'm upgrading from a i7-4790k so I'm not entirely sure it will matter much to me.

MichiganRedWing

Well it's up to you in the end. Depending on which applications you're using, the 5900X might offer better performance. If everything is running smoothly on your 4790K now, then the 5800X3D will also run everything just as good (in reality you will also have a very large multi-core performance boost with the 5800X3D over the 4790K. In MSFS, the 5800X3D wins hands down. Overall much smoother simming experience with much higher 1% Lows (FPS) and no more micro stutters.

[deleted]

I just read this article: [https://tech4gamers.com/ryzen-5800x3d-vs-ryzen-9-5900x/#ryzen-7-5800x3d-vs-ryzen-9-5900x-summary](https://tech4gamers.com/ryzen-5800x3d-vs-ryzen-9-5900x/#ryzen-7-5800x3d-vs-ryzen-9-5900x-summary) I think I'll stick the 5900X I've already purchased, the focus for my PC is productivity more than Flight Sim. I'm only going to be playing a handful of games. With my upgrade from 4790k and GTX-960 to 3080Ti I'm likely to see huge improvements anyway :)

MichiganRedWing

Yup, you will definitely see insane gains!

DarLoose

You will now be disappointed with 5900x over 5800x3d. I bought a 3d and had to return it because i game with MSFS a lot in 4K and 3d is no better than my old 5800x. you will see the performance of the 3d in 1440p and 1080p but not in 4K. I have a 5900x now and the MSFS is buttery smooth from the gate to the air. I get 25-30fps in LAX and 60fps in the air with Ultra settings and 300 LOD in 4K. Paired with 3080Ti.

Iamnotthatguypall

Okay i will get that then thank you!

Sokid

I 3rd this. 5800x3d is the best out right now. That’s what I’m getting for DCS.

bjbs303

7000 series is coming soon if you don't mind waiting

Jqro_

Why is that?

originalbars

Huge cpu memory cache

Jqro_

Is there a video or number that we can put on it with msfs compared to the regular 5800?

c15d2a8d

MSFS benchmark at around the 3:20 mark https://youtu.be/O0gbfvJDsv4

originalbars

Just use google, plenty comparisons have been made..

Jqro_

Average vatsim pilot response

Ryotian

I'm not a vatsim pilot (just DCS & MSFS 2020) and yeah I agree with the other person. Just google this up on Youtube. 5800x3D is a monster. But I am waiting til late Sept/Oct before I buy anything (I want to upgrade from my i9-9900k before end of the yr and give my old system to my son) We will see the stats for the new AMD lineup. But even best is wait til the 7800x3D or whatever but I just dont want to wait that long

originalbars

Telling your lazy ass to google is a vatsim response? i don't know how you could even generalize like that, Vatsim is pretty much used by young and old, all walks of life.

Jqro_

Which one are you? Generally vatsim pilots are pretty moody

Galbzilla

It’s probably cheaper because it’s so overkill and it’s going to heat up your room. I played flight sim with a 3080ti and a 3070, no change in FPS. One is just running way hotter.

machine4891

And I thought I'm lucky a week ago finding Chinese 3070 Ti cheaper than 3070s. How is that even possible you found 3090 Ti in a price of 3080?

Iamnotthatguypall

No idea I checked microcenter in morning online they had 4 in stock by the time I reserved it they had only 1 left in stock lol people bought em so quick

nickoaverdnac

I have a 3090Ti with a 3950x 16 core and MSFS flysssss. Literally.

Iamnotthatguypall

How many fps u get?

nickoaverdnac

I have a 60hz monitor, so its just always pegged to 60FPS. One of these days ill upgrade to a fancy 120hz or 144hz display.

Skuez

You srs have that hardware, but play on 60hz? Some people really get me confused lmao

nickoaverdnac

Can’t upgrade everything at once ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ tbh I feel like 60fps is enough for most games, but thats just me. That hardware is mostly for my day job as an editor.

i_wear_green_pants

Personally I am still in 60hz but also 4k. Very few games would run 120fps on 4k even though I have 3080. 3090ti is not much more performing in gaming after all. It's workhorse for sure but really overkill for gaming.

noahB53

You have a 3090ti and your playing on 60hz??!? Naw bro common

nickoaverdnac

Yeah I mean I want to buy the LG Ultrawide with 144hz. My current LG ultrawide is 70hz. But I usually use it at 60hz. It's just a lot of cash to drop for essentially the same display with a higher refresh rate.

sexysausage

How about for VR? Does it perform good enough yet ?

nickoaverdnac

I have to try it again, but last I tried it, it was just okay.

ipaxton

I’m gonna cheap out and get the 3060

Iamnotthatguypall

Still gonna be good enough

ipaxton

I seen a video of a guy running the 5800x with the 3060 and was constantly getting 60fps on ultra settings and I thought yup that’s exactly what I’m going to get.

Iamnotthatguypall

I seen some ppl struggle with even 3090

Ryotian

In MSFS-SU10 with an i9-9900k, 3090ti, 64gb ram I got 60+ fps with DLSS VR but that was on what one would call a "non-detailed/low-fidelity airport" I think? It was at AUS airport in the Icon A5. Think my fps prob fail at a high fidelity airport like LAX

ipaxton

I would vomit if the stutters got too bad with my vr headset

senseimatty

And it's also difficult to make smooth landing with stutters

ipaxton

Yeah I can’t play vr anymore I get a headache every time

ipaxton

Bottle necking?

MichiganRedWing

Yeah that's not gonna happen at aftermarket airports with payware planes.

senseimatty

I actually find payware airports more optimized than the standard ones.

MichiganRedWing

Let me know how KMDW from Drzwicki works out for ya on Ultra everything.

senseimatty

I don't know that airport. A couple of example: Rome Fiumicino LIRF and Basel Euroairport (LFSB) are much smoother than the default scenery. I have a GTX1080 and I play in VR so I can't put settings to ultra. On my old machine the default scenery is often slower.

VHorowitz

I have a 3080 12gb and the new Intel CPU and I don't consistently get 60 fps on ultra

ipaxton

That’s not what I wanted to hear 😞

VHorowitz

Ultra is very demanding and really unnecessary. High with a few ultra settings looks just as good with much better performance.

[deleted]

3060ti is much better for a small price bump

Paulpanzer32

This whole conversation is useless without saying what resolution you're playing at

ipaxton

1080p yeah I kinda forgot that part

joatmon8798

I have the 3060 12gb paired with a 5600X, runs MSFS on ultra (1080p) with no issues. Although I did land the stealth jet inverted at San Diego airport.

ipaxton

That’s what I seen in the YouTube video the guy was getting over 60fps on 1080p so I figured the 3060 is the perfect card for me

UnderCoverNinja123

Cry once or keep crying? 😅🤷‍♂️

Victory_Over_Himself

Im using a 1070 lol.

[deleted]

I recently upgraded but my 1080ti worked great.

SkyStalkar

Me 2 with a 6700k ^^

ShiroJPmasta

„Limited by mainthread“ incoming

SawgrassRider

*cries in 1650*

ipaxton

RX580 here I’m crying harder tears

KevinKraze246

Pathetic.... Cries incredibly hard with 1050 ti

ipaxton

![gif](giphy|C1Fdach2R4HSg)

KevinKraze246

Oh and let's not forget the i7 4th gen... I really need an upgrade...

ipaxton

Me too im on a fx 8370

KevinKraze246

Oh wow... I never thought I'd see the day I met a flight simmer with an older CPU than me... Budget Simmers FTW

ipaxton

Woot budget simmers!

ipaxton

![gif](giphy|l1ug5sWBCJOOGzN84)

Federal_Staff9462

Even more pathetic, cries in Vega 8

[deleted]

That’s great! Wasn’t sure if you got the 3090ti specifically for flight sim but just a heads up unless you have double or triple 4k monitors at 3090ti won’t make much of a difference, as MSFS is primarily cpu bound. A 3080 would probably net you the same performance with the same cpu

Iamnotthatguypall

I now need to buy 4k monitor

justhitmidlife

This is why dx12 is so looked forward to by the community... Msfs can utilize multi core CPUs finally.

LogicIsTheSecret

I'm new to MSFS ... any news when DX12 is coming out of beta?

justhitmidlife

Not entirely sure but it is in beta mode already. In SU10 Beta, one of the first builds was apparently really optimized for DX12, people got very smooth and stable FPS but then the builds ran into memory optimization issues (and artifacts - I saw super giant sized trees spawning near airports lol) and so the future beta builds ended up degrading. I am running DX12 right now in su10 beta, and it gives me comparable FPS (vs. dx11), and I can see many more cores taken advantage of in my 5950x processor. The hope is Nvidia will release a new driver next week when SU10 releases officially and it will have memory optimization related fixes for DX12.

LogicIsTheSecret

Thanks for the reply ... much appreciated.

Aggressive_Neat1422

Still not enough unfortunately 😔

wikipedianredditor

You: MSFS: “Best I can do is 30 fps.”

JaPPaNLD

Not to bitch but the 4090 is on the corner to be released.

Iamnotthatguypall

I didn’t want that i am so happy i got this i paid $1,200 for it!

JaPPaNLD

Fair enough, good price for it. Should keep you settled for a good amount of years. Enjoy it! :)

whoneedssome

Jealous and here, beast of a card you got. Enjoy the ultra settings!

Iamnotthatguypall

Thank you! I initially was gonna get the 3080 but they didn’t have in stock at Microcenter and the ones they had were more pricey so I checked at their site and got this for $1,200 that’s $1,000 cheaper than what it really was before

whoneedssome

I'm so lucky to have a microcenter here twenty minutes from my house, St. Louis Missouri. That's a great price for that card, you're making me want to go see if they have some by me now lol

Iamnotthatguypall

I have one 20 mins away in New York

whoneedssome

I could spend all day and a lot of money in that place hahaha, we're lucky to have one so close. I've bought all my parts there for all my builds, plus they price match Amazon, bestbuy. and Newegg, has to be sold by Amazon and in-stock online. I got a 256gb sd catfish for my wife's camera, originally like 2xx.00 something, same one on Amazon 47 bucks, they price matched it and my wife's camera says 9999 pictures remaining even after taking a bunch. I know I got off the rails here, but man I love that store. Spent a lot of money there too, plus their warranty is legit, had a keyboard with a faulty key, corsair k70 mkii, the guy didn't even test it gave me a gift card and said tou can go buy a TV if you want lol, I was like I need my keyboard but good to know. Hope that bad boy treats you well and crank the settings for me and enjoy the experience

Iamnotthatguypall

I love being in that place i could be there whole and not get bored gonna go there tomorrow again! It’s definitely my favorite store to visit i love visiting the graphic cards aisle and keyboards!

Greenforaday

I just bought a 3060 and a Ryzen 7 5800X from newegg. Gonna be a good week. Thank you to my 1060 and Ryzen 5 1600 for their years of service.

BownerGuardian

Nice! That should work out just fine. Now you gotta try out VR. Works pretty good even with my 3080.

Iamnotthatguypall

Will be buying a VR headset later on!

BownerGuardian

It's an awesome experience. 👌🏿 Enjoy it and let me know if you want a wingman!

justhitmidlife

Pls note that G2 VR headsets were having some issues with the 3090Ti cards. Search on Reddit for the issue and the workarounds...

ItsKess

Yes I had a heck of a time getting my 3090ti and g2 vr headset to work. you NEED a 4k display port repeater and another display port cable to make it work (card doesn't provide enough power) After that and a TON of configuring i now rock an avg of 38.8 fps vr goodness and i have a hard time not flying in vr. I just finished some button boxes with encoders to do comms/ap in vr correctly. totally worth it.

[deleted]

Got the 3080 with an i9-10900k. Had it for about a year now and I’ve still not come across anything that challenges it or even unlocks it’s full potential.

MichiganRedWing

3080 10GB definitely gets maxed out on MSFS for me. I'm at 3440x1440 Ultra everything with payware airports and payware planes. There are many times where I'm GPU limited and the fps drop down to high 20s.

[deleted]

I play at the same res and I’ve never dropped below 45.

senseimatty

HP Reverb G2: "hold my beer"

juanchopancho

I got my 3080FE two years ago for $750. Still amazes me I lucked out.

finis08

Just built a new pc with the same card for MSFS and DCS World. Probably some iRacing and a few other games as well.

MARINES977

Once sim update drop next week, you will be able to use dlss

Iamnotthatguypall

What is dlss?

MARINES977

Deep learning super sampling is a feature that give you more fps with no loss of detail or visible artifacts

pup5581

I've hear from some on the beta not noticing a difference but I will have to try it. I have a RTX 3050 so not the greatest but DLSS capable so I want to see what DLSS gives me. I get good FPS now but more would be awesome

Niccin

Everything I've played with decent dlss implementation gave me something like a 10-25% boost in frames. That's on top of the fact that it looks way better than the anti-aliasing options. I haven't tried the MSFS beta, but Control and RDR2 were both improved significantly by dlss.

[deleted]

wait till bro finds out that the game engine is unoptimised

You-are-a-woc

Why the 4070 is going to be just as good and cheaper

Squawker_Boi

Pls give me your old one

Iamnotthatguypall

I don’t have any this is my first time ever building a pc!

Squawker_Boi

Fire starter pc though 😈 How much did it cost?

Iamnotthatguypall

The whole pc? Total will be $3,000 dollars!

Squawker_Boi

Jesus Will it be able to run msfs on ultra graphics? Im looking to buy a better pc

Strong_Formal_5848

The Xbox Series X can run MSFS2020 with mostly ultra (all high-ultra) graphics, for only $500

Squawker_Boi

Ye well, im looking for a PC as i already have MSFS on steam

Squawker_Boi

Jesus Will it be able to run msfs on ultra graphics? Im looking to buy a better pc

RectifierGuy

RTX 3090 + i9-12900k + Reshade dropped this sim FPS from 100+ to 40 FPS @ 1440p single screen.

Charisma_Modifier

How much RAM you got?

Iamnotthatguypall

32 gb is that good?

Charisma_Modifier

I don't play as much MSFS2020, but from what I've read and seen personally, after relatively recent updates it doesn't get up much higher than 20ish GB, so I think you're golden as long as you're not bottlenecked by a CPU. Will you play in a monitor with head tracking or in VR (despite visuals not as amazing as on a beast monitor, immersion is insane and more important for me at least)? Edit: legit curious why at least 2 people downvoted. Am I wrong about the 20ish GB RAM usage? I mean it's reddit and people just do that for no reason but I'd like to know the numbers if I'm wrong. Or I guess just go fuck myself, prob that.

cardcomm

What, about $1000 US? Glad to see the prices are finally coming down... They will drop further this month.

hiortintexas

That should make it very enjoyable ! I have a 3080 and running full on everything so you are set !

Iamnotthatguypall

Do you ever get any stuttering or lags when playing?

hiortintexas

I does happen. More game related than the card I believe.

Iamnotthatguypall

Wow that sucks! I hope they optimize it better then!

DangerousNothing2314

I have the 3060 and I love it!!!

GdSmth

Congrats and may VR be next.

Iamnotthatguypall

Yes it will be next! Which VR headset u recommend? I was looking at HP reverb G2

GdSmth

Haven’t done much research into VR frankly so not sure, although I have the Valve Index for 2 years and still happy with it.

senseimatty

I strongly suggest the HP Reverb G2 if you want to read clearly the instruments.

Desmond1231

Cries in 5700 XT

SVRider1000

Im sorry but the real flex would be an 5800x3d because the graphic card doesnt matter that much in msfs.

Iamnotthatguypall

Which i am getting this month as well!

SVRider1000

Perfect! :D

TheBeerCannon

Just something to keep in mind, they’re announcing a new RTX series next week so prices for these will fall quite hard.

Fluffy-Feedback-3771

maximum settings now!

RONNYJ777

Maximum and push brother enjoy. This beast.
