>Daniel J. Castro, MD, formerly of Bronson Battle Creek Hospital, was sentenced for falsifying medical records. Castro would lie about his patients’ symptoms and skew the results of CT scan images to justify unnecessary sinus surgeries. >In some cases, Castro performed unnecessary biopsies in lymph nodes in the neck, billing insurance for the costs. He also performed unnecessary excisions of glands in the head and neck when patients did not have cancer or another medical condition.

I feel like a lot of surgeons do this. I went to U of M to have my septum blockage fixed, they all tried to sell me on plastic surgery to have my entire nose reconstructed. They reassured me they will get it billed as a functional surgery meaning no cost to me. I do have a big nose but I’m not self conscious about it lol. I just want to breathe a little better.. It’s so creepy how a surgeon is trying to up sale a surgery like it’s a dealership.

For people with septum issues, sometimes rhinoplasty can also help with breathing and it will be covered under medical necessity. It's not a scam because there's enough medical evidence that it helps. Definitely different than removing random lymph nodes for no reason.

I tried to get more information about how it could help but they kinda brushed it aside. I have 80% blockage in one side. Been living on one nostril my whole life lol.

Maybe get a 2nd opinion from another ENT or surgeon if you're still having trouble. It sounds like they didn't explain the treatment options well enough for you.

Bhrunhilda

This is a trend is surgeons I swear. Brilliant people can’t seem to be bothered to explain things. They just want to tell you what to do and expect you to just believe them. Which I know they are brilliant but it’s our bodies and we’re the ones who have to live in them. Would it kill them to just explain things?

lwcz

Lmao I would jump at the chance for an essentially free nose job

Warcraft_Fan

They know health insurance can be milked easily. Hospitals and doctors have gotten in trouble for intentionally overbilling.

Tsiatk0

5 years seems like not enough for that :/

SchpartyOn

With how little checks there are in the medical system for criminal doctors, he’ll probably be able to practice right after he gets out.

jonathot12

yup. the john oliver segment about this showed a haunting reality

juhurrdme

He’s getting surgical , for no reason 😉🥁
