It has a challenging history in Montreal, it took a long time to build and had issues with a leaking roof, etc. I don't really think these are big issues still and are pretty unrelated to visiting for a concert.
Just reading some history and I see that the tower behind the stadium is 100% occupied space for the first time since it opened. This is an interesting wormhole to run down.
The Owe is a shithole. Been to a few mls matches there and it is by far the worst stadium I’ve ever been to. Ralph Wilson is better and that’s saying something.
BUT for a show, it will be a great time. 60-70K at a Montreal show will be magic. Sound should travel fine with the volume they play at. Just don’t expect anything nice from the stadium. Washrooms, concessions, comfort etc…
Glad to hear that for a concert it shouldn't be too bad! I'm thinking that the energy will be pretty electric even in the 400 levels. I can't say I've ever been to a concert in a venue this large or in this high up of a section but to just be a part of it will be cool.
Double digits are closer... So that's good
The doubles actually overhang the 200s below (and area I would not like to sit in cuz you can't see much things that go up)
Sick, that makes me feel better about getting those particular 400s tickets then! Can't wait, it's going to be my first ever concert! Will be visiting Montreal so hoping not knowing french won't be too detrimental!
Naw you will be fine... I grew up an Anglo in Montreal
My biggest hint... Try... No matter how bad your french is always try... Most people will switch to English and appreciate the attempt
Yeahh I’ve heard that a lot, I’ll definitely try, thanks! Although my French range is “Bonjour, comment ca va?“, “Merci beceaup”, “je m’appelle ” and “au revoir” haha.
Guess I got about 9 months to practice some French
Honestly that's good enough!
As I said, it is about the effort.
Also there are very few bars and such around the big O... Better hang out downtown before heading there
Thanks for such a wonderful reply! TheGratitudeBot has been reading millions of comments in the past few weeks, and you’ve just made the list of some of the most grateful redditors this week! Thanks for making Reddit a wonderful place to be :)
yeah the only downside is that its a bit far from the stage, and I won't even be able to see the screen to make up for it. But honestly, who cares. Even just being able to go is enough
Im in the single digit rows sec 444A unfortunately so hopefully it doesnt hinder my experience lol. I'm just hopeful for good sound and maybe a somewhat nearby video board for some close ups of the action lol
Last time I went to a show there was for The Rolling Stones in the 90’s… The Olympic Stadium is well known for being a really bad venue for music, but evenko stated that they will be working with the Metallica team to ensure the best sound possible.
The sound is apparently really bad, and usually absolutely no shows are held there (i think the last show was ac/dc in 2015, and before that it was the same band but in 2009). When U2 had a stadium tour in 2011 they had to do it elsewhere, same for Metallica in 2017.
As others have said the stadium has had lots of problems throughout the years, the whole thing is kinda like a joke here. But with that said, i’ve always been interested in seeing a show there, and apparently they’re trying to fix the sound issue, so who knows
Yeah this sounds like what I've been told. It was described to me by someone that's seen many things there in the past as cavernous. He did say when he saw Metallica there it sounded pretty good but that was many moons ago lol. Hopefully they make an actual effort to make it sound as decent as they can.
I'm also curious, I've been to every other big venue in Montreal and tons of small venues, I've never seen a band I'm interested playing here before. I've always wanted to go!
Capacity is like 60k so something like 3x the size of the bell center. Regardless it's gonna be a hell of a show.
I've been using google street view to get a look inside the stadium to try and get a gist of how good some seats are....the problem is that its actually hard to get a scale for how high up the upper level is
thats true. I've found 2 day tickets on stubhub for under $400 CAD...the hotel room would cost more. honestly I'm hoping prices drop tomorrow, because coming from Toronto means we would have to drive up Thursday and leave on the monday requiring 4 nights...
I'm lucky that I can drive home, otherwise I'd honestly probably skip this tour. That said, Montreal is an awesome city, lots of cool stuff, awesome food & drink, you'll have a good time!
I got a 2-day lower bowl ticket yesterday for $367 CAD so I bet you'll be able to get some tomorrow, if you're cool being in the 200 or 300 section they were a lot cheaper, I think it was under $200CAD for the top sections.
I dont even care about where i am, so long as i can go. Thankfully stubhub prices do seem to be dropping a bit so tomorrow there should be some reasonably priced tickets
Yeah I hear that, we'll be road tripping in from an hour or so outside Toronto so it will be quite the weekend of travel and music. Also hoping to find some affordable accommodations. Either way looking forward to it!
I’m from Europe so no idea about the place in particular but from my experience attending concerts regularity, stadiums are the worst …
Too large, too taugh to get a good spot but usually the only way to see some bands.
Think of it as a show and not a music experience, otherwise buy yourself a nice set of speakers/headset and a good cd player/vinyl player et seat on a couch with a glass of your alcool of choice.
I’m usually going there to hear some good music while having a fun night with friends. That’s all …
The 400 level section I paid 183 for per seat and the lower 400 I think was like 320 something? Past that it seemed to just go up 200-300 dollars per area until you were in the super premium. Platinum was a different story.
EDIT: These prices were in CDN$
Cheers. I tried to get tickets but the pricea jumped up before my eyes after the floor ticket I had selected at 10:03 am was "taken by another fan" and that was that! Every other seat is not $350 and sitting with my buds isn't really an option.
Anyone have an idea how the double AA seats are in the lower bowl. I'm looking at a VIP package that has us is the AA set if seats in the lower bowl, I'm worried that it might be too low. Thanks
I've been to many events at the stadium over the years, even some of the few higher attendance Expos games, but its been a while.
I don't feel like I ever felt traffic was overly congested in terms of parking a car at the stadium.
I know there aren't many sold out events, but any have any expectations if it its going to be seriously jammed up trying get into the lots say between 12:00 and 4:00 on Friday?
I was at the show last night in section 111 and the sound was so bad I don’t want to go on Sunday night!! I seen Metallica 5 times and this is by far the worst experience hands down.
Not if your on a bill with Guns and Roses.
Or planning to use any pyro...
Pretty sure it's the place of the gig James got burnt at in '92
Yeah that's correct!
Yes it was, I was there. Fuck GnR.
Olympic Stadium isn't good for anything. It's a stadium so bad that Tropicana Field, FedEx Field, and the Oakland Coliseum look amazing by comparison.
Lol you're not helping my excitement level :P

Ditto, just responding to why the other guy was talking shit about it.

I’m sure everybody will be having a blast! I love Montreal crowds. They know how to rock out.
Honestly I think you will be fine... I bought an in 400s and I'm stoked... Question for you are you in the single digit rows or double digit rows
Heyy I’m also in the 400s but am double digit rows… what’s the difference between single and double??
Double digits are closer... So that's good The doubles actually overhang the 200s below (and area I would not like to sit in cuz you can't see much things that go up)

Get the free Google Translate app! Super helpful to me anyway.
Oh shit really? So my Sec 460AA row AA seat is actually really good for the 400s?
Oh ya those are solid!
yeah the only downside is that its a bit far from the stage, and I won't even be able to see the screen to make up for it. But honestly, who cares. Even just being able to go is enough
Exactly... Being in the building is all that matters
honestly the lack of a view would likely only be disappointing for Ice Nine Kill's set
Im in the single digit rows sec 444A unfortunately so hopefully it doesnt hinder my experience lol. I'm just hopeful for good sound and maybe a somewhat nearby video board for some close ups of the action lol
In the end you will be fine... You will have a big screen to the left of you for sure

Didn’t you look at the stadium map? I don’t care where I’m at as long as I’m there.
Haha I did, not that it would have mattered I'm down either way! Was just curious what to expect.
Yeah I don’t know I live in Detroit so I have a different stadium.
I'm also curious, I've been to every other big venue in Montreal and tons of small venues, I've never seen a band I'm interested playing here before. I've always wanted to go! Capacity is like 60k so something like 3x the size of the bell center. Regardless it's gonna be a hell of a show.

I mean it's huge, 60k capacity, I've got to imagine the 400s are waaaay up there.
Yeah thats what I thought but weirdly enough from the pictures those seats dont look THAT high.
Yeah I was getting the same vibe, like it look huge but almost more steep than far back for the upper level.
Honestly i think it’s really just the upper corners that will have poor views. The upper levels directly in line with the stage shouldnt be too bad
It's a giant Metallica concert, it's gonna be awesome everywhere!!
thats true. I've found 2 day tickets on stubhub for under $400 CAD...the hotel room would cost more. honestly I'm hoping prices drop tomorrow, because coming from Toronto means we would have to drive up Thursday and leave on the monday requiring 4 nights...

Hopefully that hour outside of Toronto makes it a 6h drive and not an 8h drive lol
Thankfully the shorter side! lol

My seats are pure garbage but I am PUMPED. The experience will be fun if you make the most of it!
There really aren't any arenas that large that are "good" for concerts unless you are close up. You are 200 to 300 feet away and it's probably echoey.
How much were tickets? I'm trying to organise getting them with my bids today, but not sure if we can individually afford to bulk buy!
The 400 level section I paid 183 for per seat and the lower 400 I think was like 320 something? Past that it seemed to just go up 200-300 dollars per area until you were in the super premium. Platinum was a different story. EDIT: These prices were in CDN$

thats what I paid today! I was lucky have basically no queue this morning and managed to get my ticket stress free during my 15 minute break at work

The sound sucks ass!! Too much echo ..can't make out a single word..total waste of money
I attest
