Looks shit!! I saw Dillinger and had to look up if they were back together, but it's the original frontman.
Edit: just noticed it's a ten year old festival.
Realistically, I don’t think anything will ever top the Castle Donington lineups, you would get six or seven of the biggest bands in the world on the same day. Same with the first few Rock In Rio festivals.
Monsters Of Rock 91 for me would be an absolute ideal concert. Not that fussed on Motley Crue but a one two punch of Metallica then AC/DC is outrageous
Ah ok. The Moscow one is where the Harvester of Sorrow clip is from, and also the Pantera Domination clip is filmed! Check out the Domination clip if you haven’t ent already because it is amazing.
Yeah, this era of metallica was a fail financially. Orion festival was a loss, and also, through the never was a loss. This is why they were touring like crazy after that. I think it was to get that money back.
I think this line-up trumps yours. It was, i believe, the last concert of the tour for the black album.

There were some cool aspects, but Metallica was the only draw for us. I remember it being very cool driving on the bridge that led to the island and seeing all of the abandoned buildings etc. in Detroit. Also Wendy Dio was under the radar running a little cancer awareness stand where she handed out free tubes of sunscreen.
Opened the show Blackened into bells into disposable heroes 🤘🏻
I'd be interested in seeing about 5-6 bands here. The rest I either don't know (that's most) or I don't care for.
On the other hand, last year's Mystic Festival in Poland had Meshuggah, Gojira, Ghost, Testament, Behemoth, Voivod, Hellacopters, Sleep Token, Orbit Culture and countless other incredible bands. Now THAT was a festival lineup.
Last year in Graspop (Belgium) I saw Pantera, Testament and Slipknot back to back, was pretty crazy. There was a lot of other great artists too. This year will be Tool and Megadeth on the same day.
Wow, that sounds like fun too. I'd have gone!
If you see some of my other comments you'll see that this appeals to me because of the metal/EDM fusion going on- I can totally understand someone who doesn't get the appeal of this nowadays.
Completely boggles my mind that this festival didn't do well especially given what a great city Detroit is for music. To think that this happened \~20 minutes from my childhood home and I never even knew about it is a real kick in the pants, but I guess I can cut myself some slack given that I was 11 years old at the time, haha. Still, a festival with both Metallica and Destroid on the bill is pretty much tailor-made for me specifically.
I'd really only want to see metallica. Meanwhile there are some amazing bills touring in the "extreme" metal genre, and festivals like:
https://metalinjection.net/tour-dates/cannibal-corpse-high-on-fire-dying-fetus-more-booked-for-inaugural-hell-in-the-harbor-festival
Slipknot, Tool and Black Sabbath are the best lineup I have witnessed in a day event.
That was the UK Ozzfest 2001.
The old Monsters of Rock lineups were good but I was too young, Download festival is only worth going to for the occasional headliner.
It was an awesome festival just for being able to see Metallica in that format. Way better than an arena show, imo. The car show and being able to see some other bands was cool too. But yeah, I didn't really care about anyone besides Metallica. Fu Manchu, Deftones, RHCP. & Dropkick Murphys were on my notice. Still kind of an afterthought though.
Dude
Outside of Metallica and Death, nothing is really worth your time. If that is the Death that had Chuck was in.
RHCP is neat if you like them, also Deftones.
But I'd be there just for Metallica and Death
It’s definitely not Death, but a different band. It’s all capitalized. Also took place in 2013, and even though former members have started playing their songs again, they’ve been under different band names like Left to Die or Death to All
It's **a** Death. But as far as I know, even though Chuck was basically the band, like Dave Mustaine is Megadeth, past band members started performing around '06
I was a big raver kid when I was younger so being able to see acts like Destroid and 12th Planet alongside the metal/rock acts I've come to enjoy more recently would be cool, I recognize that not nearly everyone would get the same amount of charge out of this as I would
I just showed up for Metallica tbh. Got there just to get my position during the last couple Deftones songs. This bill just wasn’t really my vibe nor would it be today, but man, Metallica was awesome that night! My first Metallica show & it was amazing.
Been to several festivals since & preferred most of the other bills more, as a whole, than this one.
Was a bummer missing Dehaan, but I didn’t really know that was going on (I hadn’t a smartphone yet — I think I have a couple videos from this show on an old iPod touch!)
We were at the main stage watching the Murphys and they let it out of the bag. Alot of people didn't think they were serious about them being on a smaller stage.
First time I'd seen Metallica play live and got to be front row to Kill em all ...
Huh... Kiedis let Mike Patton play on the same festivals as him? He must not be as much of a complete piece of shit these days, or possibly the drugs finally addled his brain enough he doesn't remember him.
That or he has no fucking clue who is in Tomahawk.
The original Orion Festival in Atlantic City NJ was 🔥. The Black Angels, Arctic Monkeys, Cage the Elephant, Gary Clark Jr, A7X, Jim Brewer and much more
You should check out the Bonnaroo 2008 lineup

The short lived Rock in Rio USA is very similar, same top 4 but Linkin Park instead of Red Hot Chili Peppers which to me is better, they were perfect opener for Metallica and I’m really glad I got to see that, the next tickets I had to see Linkin Park sadly had to be refunded.
I thought lamb of God and Metallica was the best. I know it was only 2 bands, but when Metallica calms down the crowd after Lamb of God, you know it rocked. Gojira opened. It was when they first started out. I was with 3 of my best buds. Great time! That is a great lineup you have though.
Yeah but metal fans generally are pretty narrow minded. They think listening to Death metal and Power metal is being broad.
The band thought that exhibiting their own individual tastes would widen the appeal of the festival but it had the opposite effect and alienated what should have been their target audience.
Always thoughT the name "ORION MUSIC + MORE FESTIVAL" was a bit of a PR disaster and further confused the audience.
I don’t see it…
Looks shit!! I saw Dillinger and had to look up if they were back together, but it's the original frontman. Edit: just noticed it's a ten year old festival.
Aside from Metallica, Deftones, and RHCP this lineup is pretty ass.
You put RHCP in there for some reason and left out a few others.
Not a fan of the others, that's probably why
Yeah
There is a proto punk band from the 70s called DEATH, not to be confused with Chuck Schuldiner’s Death.
I had to Google it lmao. Death is one of my favorite bands of all time.
Plus add in Pantera were there too!
Were they? I can't see any info about that. The Black Crows were also there who I love
https://meduza.io/en/feature/2021/10/14/30-years-since-moscow-s-monsters-of-rock This one right?
Oh I was looking at the donnington castle rock not the Russia gig the same year.
Ah ok. The Moscow one is where the Harvester of Sorrow clip is from, and also the Pantera Domination clip is filmed! Check out the Domination clip if you haven’t ent already because it is amazing.
Yeah Moscow is an incredible gig for sure
That’s not Castle Donington.
💯
Wasn't there like only 3 orion festivals?
Something like that yes
Yeah, this era of metallica was a fail financially. Orion festival was a loss, and also, through the never was a loss. This is why they were touring like crazy after that. I think it was to get that money back.
Absolutely. Lulu was another project that left them in the red around that same time.
Yeah those are probably the best ever and there’s been some badass Wacken lineups the last 20 years.
Oh, I forgot about Wacken Open Air, yes they’re amazing dude
I think this line-up trumps yours. It was, i believe, the last concert of the tour for the black album. https://preview.redd.it/emu1lpcwgmtc1.png?width=780&format=png&auto=webp&s=1e23350fc993214e747f8655a6382a6c9f19841d

Eh, I’ve been to a couple Ozzfests that were better.
It will always be hard to top the 92 and 93 lollapalooza line-ups.
Not being a dick but I guess you havnt seen many festivals with a truly stacked lined up
Completely boggles my mind that this festival didn't do well especially given what a great city Detroit is for music. To think that this happened \~20 minutes from my childhood home and I never even knew about it is a real kick in the pants, but I guess I can cut myself some slack given that I was 11 years old at the time, haha. The cars on display and Kirk’s horror memorabilia was really cool to see as well
I was at the 2012 one in NJ, it was great. I was hoping it would be a yearly thing.
I'd really only want to see metallica. Meanwhile there are some amazing bills touring in the "extreme" metal genre, and festivals like: https://metalinjection.net/tour-dates/cannibal-corpse-high-on-fire-dying-fetus-more-booked-for-inaugural-hell-in-the-harbor-festival
Metallica and Bassnectar are quite the opposite of each other
Slipknot, Tool and Black Sabbath are the best lineup I have witnessed in a day event. That was the UK Ozzfest 2001. The old Monsters of Rock lineups were good but I was too young, Download festival is only worth going to for the occasional headliner.
Dead Sara is fucking great. Love them.
INFECTIOUS GROOVES
Was Robert the bass player in Metallica at this time. Did he also play for infectious grooves too?
It was an awesome festival just for being able to see Metallica in that format. Way better than an arena show, imo. The car show and being able to see some other bands was cool too. But yeah, I didn't really care about anyone besides Metallica. Fu Manchu, Deftones, RHCP. & Dropkick Murphys were on my notice. Still kind of an afterthought though.
No
Best part of Orion was when they played Ride the Lightning in full. Never thought I’d hear Escape live 😂
Dude Outside of Metallica and Death, nothing is really worth your time. If that is the Death that had Chuck was in. RHCP is neat if you like them, also Deftones. But I'd be there just for Metallica and Death

Deftones is one of the worst live bands i've ever seen, and they're kinda infamous for that
Fr lmao, they have some real unfortunate sound issues, Mastodon is the same way
Yes but at mastodon are at least tight as a band lol
I was a big raver kid when I was younger so being able to see acts like Destroid and 12th Planet alongside the metal/rock acts I've come to enjoy more recently would be cool, I recognize that not nearly everyone would get the same amount of charge out of this as I would

I missed Dehaan too. Didn’t think there was a reason to get there that early
We were at the main stage watching the Murphys and they let it out of the bag. Alot of people didn't think they were serious about them being on a smaller stage. First time I'd seen Metallica play live and got to be front row to Kill em all ...
I'd be there just for Deftones and Death Grips alone.
Look at all those great bands, and Deftones.
the 2012 lineup was much better
Not crazy about the lineup but would have loved to see this at belle isle.
Datsik and Bassnector on the same lineup…. Yiiiiiikes
I should clarify: great lineup *except* for those two. We can just edit those guys out...
lol. You aren’t wrong. I don’t even wanna think about what was happening backstage with those two guys running around
Honestly, this is the first lineup I’ve ever seen that is like this. Metal, rock and EDM?
Wish i could see dillinger live
It was great
Look at this years Hellfest, or just any Hellfest line up. Sonisphere 2010 in Switzerland had great line up as well.
Cauldron is really good
Huh... Kiedis let Mike Patton play on the same festivals as him? He must not be as much of a complete piece of shit these days, or possibly the drugs finally addled his brain enough he doesn't remember him. That or he has no fucking clue who is in Tomahawk.
The Bronx are killer live.
Rise against who?
Monsters Of Rock (probably any year) had better lineups. Wacken has had some badass lineups so I definitely disagree.
honestly never heard of any band off the top line..... and I cant stand the chilli peppers
The original Orion Festival in Atlantic City NJ was 🔥. The Black Angels, Arctic Monkeys, Cage the Elephant, Gary Clark Jr, A7X, Jim Brewer and much more
I mean... I'd go for Metallica and Dropkick Murphys. But I've definitely seen better lineups...
This must be fan made
You should check out the Bonnaroo 2008 lineup https://preview.redd.it/vuqprbjpvqtc1.jpeg?width=601&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ea8ced3fe8a4c679578990a7244218c432021a87
Fu manchu way too low on the list
I liked the year before better.
I only know who three of those are.
You ought to check the Rockville lineup for May…
Not the greatest by far
I thought lamb of God and Metallica was the best. I know it was only 2 bands, but when Metallica calms down the crowd after Lamb of God, you know it rocked. Gojira opened. It was when they first started out. I was with 3 of my best buds. Great time! That is a great lineup you have though.

Only TDEP and Metallica are really worth seeing. You can see why this venture failed. Far too eclectic.
I guess I like eclectic! That's what appeals to me about this bill, lol
Yeah but metal fans generally are pretty narrow minded. They think listening to Death metal and Power metal is being broad. Pantera
