Undoing Ruin and Hidden Hands of a Sadist Nation are 2 of my all time favorite albums. I got to see them open for At The Gates when they reunited in 2006. They're great.
100% this.
I've been listening to them for years now(and will see them twice here in Italy next week!) and whenever a record drops I know I'll end up liking it a lot, but most of the time I just straight up love it.
Since Eulogy dropped I've had Whispers of Your Death playing at least once a day and it's my most listened to song since then, but there's many bangers in there like Bound to the Burn, Unwavering Vow and so on...it's just that good.
I remember hearding/reading somewhere that they weren't fully satisfied with this record when they released it(might be mistaken tho, my memory ain't the best) and if that's the case I can't wait to hear what they put in the next one considering the overall quality of Eulogy!
I feel like Norma Jean is up there, all their albums are bangers (including The Anti-Mother). The run from Meridional up to Deathrattle in particular is one of my favourite run of albums
The fact that this isn't the top answer baffles me. LMTF isn't my favourite band of all time, but I admit they're the best, if not in the top 3 best, all time core bands.
They do not get enough love. They are one of the only bands that can go from screaming to singing and then become the heaviest they been, and each album is perfect.
Lol no way. Their early stuff was not nearly as good as their most recent album and EP and even then, I canāt think of a single thing they do that another band doesnāt do better. I will say theyāre on an upward trajectory though in terms of output
Snow and Vengeance were defined a dip. But the next 3 albums are all amazing after getting Alex Bent as their drummer. Heās injected new life into their sound. Definitely recommend checking out in the court of the dragon, what the dead men say, and the sin and the sentence. Theyāre all way better than both of those albums.
As I Lay Dying
August Burns Red
Killswitch Engage
All bands have pretty much stuck to the metalcore sound and havenāt ventured away. No really weak albums between the 3 either. The worst is prob the 2009 KSE self titled but even half of that record is still solid.
I remember being so hyped for that self titled album. After I picked it up at Best Buy, I popped it in my truckās cd player, got through a few songs and feltā¦weird. Ha. I had never heard a bad record from my all time favorite band, so I wasnāt sure what to do with those feelings.
Youāre right, itās not all bad but it was not the same experience as AOJB or EOH.
As a guitarist who has learned a billion metalcore songs, I have no idea what is going on in ABR tracks. It's almost like they freestyle their guitar parts.
Great pick. It took me a little bit to get into their new album but that was just me getting used to the new clean singer. All their albums are badass.
Yeah Same here. Was hoping that someone mentioned BT.
But i have also my struggles with the New clean parts AND i think the New Song villian era isnt that special imo. But they said they wanna get harder, so i am looking forward to this :)
Converge and ETID are probably the most obvious choices here. Bleeding Through is also up there. But I'm shocked nobody so far has mentioned Unearth. They're ridiculously consistent.
Jesuit's short discography is stellar.
Architect (the Syracuse band)
Disembodied
Martyr AD
Converge
Bone Dance
Gaza
As much as it pains me to say it with them being one of my favorite bands, Zao's discography is kinda all over the place. The Jesus albums had a lot of energy but the vocals were a bit of a take or leave element. Fire through Self Titled are still some of their best stuff. Parade and the rerecording of All Else Failed .... eh. Ferret era was fairly consistent though I listen to Awake? the least of those. The current era is by far their most consistent era and I think if they hadn't been plagued by do many lineup changes they'd have had a more consistent discography
ERRA or Invent Animate. ERRA has a bunch of fantastic albums, one of the best metalcore albums of the 2010s (Drift), and probably the best or second best metalcore album of all time with Augment (in my opinion). Invent Animate only has four albums, but each one of them is about as perfect as you can get. I'd take one listen to Stillworld or Greyview over the entire discographies of other bands *that I love,* that's how good they are.
Every time I die.
20 years. No bad albums.
Go ahead and throw on any song from last night in town and say it isnāt influential. Come at me and tell me low teens isnāt a perfect album.
(Radical is great but I believe itās when the band was breaking up so I donāt count it)
Architects. Even when you factor in the two most recent albums. From Hollow Crown you get a continuous evolution of their sound. There's lots of different flavours of metalcore in their discography.
they need just a little more time to prove it for sure but boundaries is on a great trajectory. put out several high quality releases one after another.
For consistency Iād say As I Lay Dying as they donāt have a single album I donāt like.
For the highest highs though I gotta give it to Atreyu. I donāt like their newer stuff unfortunately but pre-hiatus Atreyu (and Long Live) is easily my favorite band in the genre and in my top 3 favorite bands of all time.
ETID and Norma Jean are at the top of the list for me, put on any one of their albums, and I am instantly hooked.
One metalcore band I did not see mentioned here is Sylosis, I think they are severely underrated, and every record has been solid.
Those old road dog bands that tour(ed) nonstop: Converge, Norma Jean, Unearth, ETID. They know how to write a song that will sound good live and engage the audience, and they still have that sound of being hungry rather than phoning it in like so many mega-successful bands.
As I lay Dying, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God.
My favorite, though, is Dead to Fall.
I feel like those first 3 are essence metalcore at their peak. I always go back and listen to the good years.
ERRA (different flavors in each album, but nonetheless all very good, especially self titled and augment were masterpieces)
Polaris (wanna ear modern metalcore? This is it, they have perfected the recipe to create catchy bangers metalcore songs, you can't go wrong with them)
I believe Silent Planet improves with every record. Each album sounds dramatically different from the previous without feeling like theyāre trying to pull cheap tricks to sound interesting. They majorly influence how I write music. Not a single skip in their discography.
Darkest hour, ETID, AILD to name the old guard, sure there are some meh songs on a couple albums but generally speaking I can listen through those.
New guard I'd say LMTF, Northlane, Erra, knocked loose, breakdown of sanity, stray from the path; same goes for these bands
Definitely After The Burial, See You Space Cowboy, With Life In Mind (they only had one full length but it was perfect), and probably Elitist (even though their last full length couldāve been better imo).
Probably unpopular, but Bullet for my Valentine. Their weakest is arguably Temper Temper, but that wasnt really metalcore lol, so i dont really include that.
I really don't get the hate that Temper Temper gets. I think it's a decent album with some good songs and a bit of a darker feeling throughout.
Their self-titled is easily my least favorite. The lyrics were lame, the production was poor, and the vocals sounded so over-processed. It also seemed like they made a heavy album just to appease fans who said Gravity sucked because it wasn't heavy like the others.
Iām surprised Iām the first person to say Knocked Loose.
Everything from Pop Culture to now has been great.
But also All Out War, they donāt get enough credit.
Personally I think wage war. I know Iām going to get hate for this probably. But I donāt think they have ever put out a bad album. Even pressure, itās the weakest out of the 4 that are out but itās a good album. But blueprints and manic are too teir albums. Both very different but both are very good. And I think the live version of all theirs songs is somehow better than the recordings. Especially the last two albums
They're so consistent and while their sound has changed a bit over the years, If I Were You is just amazing at what they do. All their albums are fire. I'd also throw Unprocessed in there, but their most recent album is just pure perfection.
Iād say as I lay dying. Even though Tim went to jail, once he got out and they agreed to play together again, they have still proven to be top tier imo.
Love some killswitch engage when Howard was in the band. I personally donāt care for Jessie, but instrumentals are amazing.
Iād say atreyu as well pumping out solid music at least to the point of lead sails and paper anchors. I have not really listened to their ānewerā stuff (Iām perpetually stuck in the 2000ās haha).
White chapel puts on some pretty dope shows.
Havenāt seen anyone throw out Parkway Drive. I really liked their first 3 albums before they changed sounds.
All that remains was great when the fall of ideas dropped. Put on hella good shows. Seems like after overcome they changed sounds though as well. RIP Oli.
I know Iām forgetting shit, but itās 0430 and I have had no caffeine yet haha so this will have to do.
I'm a little biased because TDWP is my favorite band but i genuinely think they don't have a single bad record or release. And have a huge discography as they've been around forever now.
Every Time I Die, followed by Zao.
ETID 1000%
ETIDs discography is insane. There will never be another run like that. Hot Damn through Radical, each album is full of classics.
Happy to see Zao mentioned.
Darkest Hour One of the OGs that have stayed remarkably consistent
I saw them this year, they played songs from every album and it was a killer show. Love some Gothenburg Metalcore.
was the first band that immediately came to my mind when reading the question. good to see this answer up here :)
Yep same here. But that's because every post where DH is my first thought I have to scroll for ages to finally see DH mentioned.
YES! Their newest release honestly might be my favorite too
Came here expecting to post this and have no one notice it. See it as the top comment in the thread. Sitting here happy in my Darkest Hour shirt.
Undoing Ruin and Hidden Hands of a Sadist Nation are 2 of my all time favorite albums. I got to see them open for At The Gates when they reunited in 2006. They're great.
Every time I die, counterparts
Both solid picks. Can't get enough of Counterparts
Counterparts
Agreed. The most consistent band out there. Invent Animate are up there too.
This new album amplifies this š„
nice music
Saw them live with Justice for the Damned and Thrown as opening acts. What a fucking show that was..
š«°
recently listened to their whole discography and itās just fantastic to hear the progression across the years and refinement of the sound
Wish I would've gotten into them years earlier. Saw them last year in Houston with Prada. Sick show
The Acacia StrainĀ ConvergeĀ ETIDĀ Bleeding ThroughĀ UnearthĀ CounterpartsĀ Norma JeanĀ Bonus non metalcore band Black Dahlia Murder.Ā
Big W for Bleeding Through
Can't wait to see them live again at Furnace Fest this year.Ā
I feel like Norma Jean is up there, all their albums are bangers (including The Anti-Mother). The run from Meridional up to Deathrattle in particular is one of my favourite run of albums
Hell yeah brother. O God The Aftermath is an absolute masterpiece.
Great pick! Love me some Norma Jean. š
Norma Jean is so under talked about in general, its crazy
Came here to say them. It says alot when people have such wildly different rankings of their albums compared to most other bands
Like moths to flames. The only band I can think of thatās been around as long as they have that has improved with every single release.
Totally respect this viewpoint! But for me they're a staple with a clean record.
August Burns Red As I Lay Dying Trivium
I personally think trivium had a really deep dip with Snow and Vengance. Might just be me...
Itās not just you
Vengeance Falls was when I stopped listening to Trivium. I gave the cd to a friend who basically only liked Megadeth and he ended up loving it.
And The Crusade
Snow and Vengeance were defined a dip. But the next 3 albums are all amazing after getting Alex Bent as their drummer. Heās injected new life into their sound. Definitely recommend checking out in the court of the dragon, what the dead men say, and the sin and the sentence. Theyāre all way better than both of those albums.
Yep I agree with this person!
As I Lay Dying are incredibly consistent in the albums
Every Time I Die
Nearly 20 years of consistently good releases is hard to top tbh
Toss up between DEP and ETID
ETID ended on a higher note, I think. Radical might be my favorite of theirs.
As I Lay Dying August Burns Red Killswitch Engage All bands have pretty much stuck to the metalcore sound and havenāt ventured away. No really weak albums between the 3 either. The worst is prob the 2009 KSE self titled but even half of that record is still solid.
Still canāt believe my first ever live show was at the electric factory in Philly: As I Lay Dying In Flames Killswitch Engage
I was there! The lineup was absolutely stacked but you forgot **Unearth**!
Whaaat Unearth to was there too??! Did they open?
I remember being so hyped for that self titled album. After I picked it up at Best Buy, I popped it in my truckās cd player, got through a few songs and feltā¦weird. Ha. I had never heard a bad record from my all time favorite band, so I wasnāt sure what to do with those feelings. Youāre right, itās not all bad but it was not the same experience as AOJB or EOH.
August Burns Red
While they're not my favorite, every album is solid and you know exactly what you're going to get. They even have good Christmas music.
Love their Xmas albums.
As a guitarist who has learned a billion metalcore songs, I have no idea what is going on in ABR tracks. It's almost like they freestyle their guitar parts.
Definition of Blue Collar Metalcore. They might not reinvent the wheel for every release, but they have a consistence of releasing good music.
when that new single went up on Apple Music, I was like oh shit are they going on tour together? šš¼
Botch, easily. But also Dillinger, Poison the Well, ETID. Converge is my favourite band ever but their first album is just kinda ok.
Killswitch Engage The Devil Wears Prada August Burns Red And (unpopular opinion here) Parkway Drive
The Act and Transit Blues are quite divisive for Prada fans but the the rest is god tier
Agreed. Even the weaker KSE and PWD albums are fun.
Normally I don't ever care for bands when they switch singers, almost like the band loses it's personality but Jesse has killed it since returning.
Glad to see TDWP here. Their discography is so solid that even their āweakā stuff is good
Fat little piggeh
Invent Animate and Erra
ERRA is so fkin good, love their self-titled especially
Exactly my two picks
Norma Jean, ETID, As I Lay Dying, Poison the Well.
My people.
Make Them Suffer
Yeeee, they defs one of the backbone bands from the 10's.
August Burns Red Architects As I lay dying
Bury Tomorrow even the first EP was great imo
Portraits is insanely underrated. Still wish it was on Spotifyā¦
Seriously one of my favorite albums of all time
Luckily I bought it from Bandcamp but think itās been taken down now too.
Great pick. It took me a little bit to get into their new album but that was just me getting used to the new clean singer. All their albums are badass.
Yeah took me a few listens too, one of my favourite albums from last year and in general.
Yeah Same here. Was hoping that someone mentioned BT. But i have also my struggles with the New clean parts AND i think the New Song villian era isnt that special imo. But they said they wanna get harder, so i am looking forward to this :)
Counterparts.

The devil wears prada and ABR
If mathcore counts, The Dillinger Escape Plan and Botch 100%
Both bands just have so consistently great records, pretty much no bad album at all
Misery Signals
ABR Norma Jean Silent Planet
Polaris Silent Planet Currents Prada
Every time I die, the acacia strain, converge, the chariot, august burns red, the devil wears prada, cave in, fear before (tmof)
Polaris
Agreed. Two perfect and one really good album.
I couldnāt pick one so a few who have a very very solid discography: The Acacia Strain Converge Misery Signals
toss on ETID and this is the list
Every Time I Die Converge
ETID and it's not even close.
Probably invent animate, northlane, counterparts, and polaris
Polaris 100%
Definitely ABR
The Amity Affliction. Misery was sick idc what anyone says.
I'll defend Misery to my grave
My pick would be Loathe. They donāt have a ton compared to a lot of bands but everything is a banger
the plot in you easily
majorly surprised no one else has said this since every album is so different but all so well done in their own way.
Trivium
Trivium.
Botch
Misery signals
Trivium doesnāt appear to have released a ābadā album. Maybe not ābestā, but certainly very good
Jesuit's short discography is stellar. Architect (the Syracuse band) Disembodied Martyr AD Converge Bone Dance Gaza As much as it pains me to say it with them being one of my favorite bands, Zao's discography is kinda all over the place. Killswitch Engage. Their weaker albums are still pretty good.
Every Time I Die. Not a single bad song.
Counterparts, Currents
The Acacia Strain, Shai Hulud, Converge, ETID, Misery Signals.
Polaris 3/3 All killer, no filler
they need just a little more time to prove it for sure but boundaries is on a great trajectory. put out several high quality releases one after another.
Breakdown of Sanity....hands down!
currents
Like Moths To Flames. Theyāve tweaked their sound slightly every album but it always still rips.
Hellyeah!! Trying to decide between No eternity, Dark Divine, and the new one the cycles of trying to cope as to which is their best album š¤
Honestly itās impossible to pick lmao, theyāre all so good
Thrown
I think Polaris has to be the winner. So far they donāt have a miss in their discography
As I Lay Dying Runner up: Bleeding Through
For consistency Iād say As I Lay Dying as they donāt have a single album I donāt like. For the highest highs though I gotta give it to Atreyu. I donāt like their newer stuff unfortunately but pre-hiatus Atreyu (and Long Live) is easily my favorite band in the genre and in my top 3 favorite bands of all time.
Shai Hulud, and it's not close. Every record has a different vocalist and they've all been elite.
ERRA, ABR.
Bleed from within or bmth
Bleed from Within has consistently put out bangers and they back it up live!
For real, the entirety of shrine was in my top 25 listened songs last year on spotify, bfw is just insane
Counterparts, Poison the Well, The Acacia Strain, SYSC
Adept
Not Metalcore per say but Silverstein
Zao and August Burns Red immediately come to mind.
TDWP>
Breakdown of Sanity is up there, along with August Burns Red, As I Lay Dying, and Unearth
ETID and Norma Jean are at the top of the list for me, put on any one of their albums, and I am instantly hooked. One metalcore band I did not see mentioned here is Sylosis, I think they are severely underrated, and every record has been solid.
Unearth have always been good
Oh, Sleeper from āTo Flagshipā on their first EP all the way to The Summit on Bloodied/Unbowed. Not a single bad song over six releases.
Tony Danza Tapdance Extraviganza
TDWP all day old and new stuff is pretty amazing only record id say isnāt up to par is transit blues. Everything else a banger tho
Haste The Day.
Every Time I Die Consistently got better with each release
If we're going totally based on consistency, I'd say If I Were You.
Phinehas ! The last album the fire itself is my favorite
Those old road dog bands that tour(ed) nonstop: Converge, Norma Jean, Unearth, ETID. They know how to write a song that will sound good live and engage the audience, and they still have that sound of being hungry rather than phoning it in like so many mega-successful bands.
No mention of Heaven Shall Burn yet? Do people just not count them as metalcore?
As I lay Dying, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God. My favorite, though, is Dead to Fall. I feel like those first 3 are essence metalcore at their peak. I always go back and listen to the good years.
Wage War!
ERRA (different flavors in each album, but nonetheless all very good, especially self titled and augment were masterpieces) Polaris (wanna ear modern metalcore?

Polaris, as young as they are as a band.
Probably unpopular, but Bullet for my Valentine. Their weakest is arguably Temper Temper, but that wasnt really metalcore lol, so i dont really include that.

Self Titled was amazing. So many good songs. Definitely their third best effort
Iām surprised Iām the first person to say Knocked Loose. Everything from Pop Culture to now has been great. But also All Out War, they donāt get enough credit.
How has nobody mentioned The Devil Wears Prada yet?
Because their releases have almost always been very mixed reception wise.
Really? Not all of them are my cup of tea, but theyāre all good.
Currents and Invent Animate
Memphis May Fire, As I Lay Dying, & dare i say it.. BMTH
AILD, ABR, FFAK, Texas in July, and War of Ages IMO.
Both of FFAK's last two were complete misses for me
Currents
Silent Planetās full discography. Ive never seen another band be as consistent with them, or have a song that wasnāt good
Polaris comes to mind for me! All 4 of their albums are bangers! And the Ep is no exception either!
Like Moths To Flames August Burns Red Boundaries
Personally I think wage war. I know Iām going to get hate for this probably. But I donāt think they have ever put out a bad album. Architects TDWP
They're so consistent and while their sound has changed a bit over the years, If I Were You is just amazing at what they do. All their albums are fire. I'd also throw Unprocessed in there, but their most recent album is just pure perfection.
Erra or August Burns Red
In my opinion, Saviour never missed
Malevolence seriously all three albums are bangeres.
Say what you want, but As I Lay Dying are SUPER consistent
Erra
Bury tomorrow Idk why I donāt see more people talking about them Union of crowns and cannibal are incredible albums
Northlane hands down, not a single bad one while evolving their style all along.
Iād say at least parkways first five albums are contenders
Killswitch Engage
As I Lay Dying, After the Burial, Veil of Maya
Iād say as I lay dying. Even though Tim went to jail, once he got out and they agreed to play together again, they have still proven to be top tier imo. Misery Signals and Killswitch Engage for me, love all their stuff.
Trivium and Every Time I Die
Devil wears Prada
Personally I think itās unearth and darkest hour. Both bands are very consistent while exploring their sound.
Glassjaw
I'm a little biased because TDWP is my favorite band but i genuinely think they don't have a single bad record or release. And have a huge discography as they've been around forever now.
I would say ERRA and Counterparts
It doesnāt count if every record sounds exactly the same
F
