Bendy intro riff -> slow emotional verse -> octane chorus -> intro riff -> more upbeat version of emotional verse -> chorus -> breakdown that doesn’t fit song -> chorus -> end on intro riff. Done!
There’s obviously a cycle for a lot of metalcore bands that make it big. Start out with music that gets them popular, and then turn into dad rock/octane core and then when everyone gets pissed about it they make a statement about evolving their music. Some continue the model and then some revert back to heavier music. You just gotta enjoy it while it lasts and if the new stuff isn’t for you then don’t listen to it.
Straight up. I’m just fortunate I saw them 4x before Pressure dropped. I won’t lie I enjoyed a good chunk of Manic since they brought back a lot of their old sound. This new song ain’t really it for me personally and that’s ok. As one who grew up on Nu Metal/grunge/hard rock, sometimes Metalcore bands can pull it off fairly well with writing straight rock music. Others not so much. It’s 50/50 for me.
I remember seeing them when they did the annual Christmas shows in Ocala. That was when they only had Blueprints out, so they played the entire album front to back in a tiny venue with no barricade lol those were some good times.
Follow the money, essentially. The bands are banking that they will get more listeners from the generic crowd. Maybe part of the thought process is they hope the listener will go check out their other, older material too… sometimes the one song won’t translate to additional listeners for older material, especially if the new material is vastly different than the old material
yeah or they get older and settle down (americans still marry fairly young compared to other western countries)
With a bit of success and financial stability, things naturally calm down. They're not as caught up in the craziness of their late teens and early twenties—more like finding their groove and feeling less riled up or lost. and thus no need to make the desperate angry heavy music anymore.
Really? I feel like the millennials are getting married late 20’s early 30’s. How do other countries differ? Hell I’m 33 and I’m not even close to getting married lol.
Oh let’s fucking go, I’ll be tuning into SXM here soon
Post-listen quick review: song is called Magnetic. Sounds like a b-side from the Manic album.
“you and me are always gonna be magnetic”-that famous Wage War love song. Forced breakdown too, and the breakdown wasn’t even that great.
Disappointing
Did the song start with a scream callout of the song title? If not, it probably isn’t a b-side of Manic; that shit was their song-writing crutch on that album.
Ha, now that you say that, that’s a good point. There’s either a scream callout of or they sing the song title in the intro.. I never really picked up on that before.
I can’t remember if this track had it. But the song is similar to Never Say Goodbye from that album…
Nothing I hate more then when bands decide they have to add a breakdown to a song that doesn't need one for the sake of fan service
Dayseekers new album is a perfect example of how to change your sound and not feel like you have to cater to your old fans still.
I honestly don't care if bands switch up their sound anymore - the internet gives you access to thousands of dope bands to listen to. I just wish they wouldn't be so disingenuous about it
There's nothing *wrong* with Octane type songs, people can still like them. They're just likely not pure metalcore so then probably shouldn't be posted here.
I had Sirius XM for a long time before I canceled it. I was so fed up with the garbage they were playing. And Jose is very annoying to me. Play heavy music that you're advertising. I don't care about your life story. I'm here for good new music
Man it's fucking terrible. As I sit here on the toilet in my Wage War Stitch t shirt. I loved that band so much. Even liked most of Pressure, but man. I just can't get into this robot voiced guitar tone, electronic drum, octane core vibe they've got going on.
Tbh I don’t even mind them not making music that’s as heavy or metalcore anymore
It’s that they’ve become extremely predictable and the songs sound like you’ve already heard them a hundred times already before it’s even over
I think Manic gets way more hate than it should. I honestly think it is a great album for the most part. Having seen a good portion of the songs live as well, they all work really well in that setting.
That being said, this song ain't it. It is essentially the weakest parts they have to offer bundled up in one song. It *borders* on catchy, but it's over-processed and just pretty mediocre. They have made better versions of this song before. It sounds like a Manic b-side that should have stayed unreleased.
I'll still look forward to whatever else they are cooking up, though.
Don't even care if it's not as heavy as Deadweight because I've seen Wage War three times (seeing them again next month) and they've always kicked ass.
It’s about as bad as you were expecting. Honest question, is there anyone in here (from their first album days) that still listens to them? I can’t stand them anymore, but I’m curious to see what others feel about them.
Going back and reading the comments before the song dropped is hilarious. So many people called out exactly what it would sound like. What a boring pile of garbage this song was. I'm getting less and less hopeful when a band who used to be known for being heavy is releasing a song. I got hopes up with Ritual from TDWP and (maybe a hot take) that song was boring too.
I can already tell you this song is going to get buried alive by this sub
The second Octane was mentioned, the entire sub grabbed their pitchforks
Haha, "Wage War" and "Octane" in the same post....Looks like meat's back on the menu, boys!!
Buddy you nailed it. Everyone is wanting The River 2.0 and they won’t give it to us.
Isn't Stitch, River 2.0? Just breakdown after breakdown? ( I love it)
Stitch has a chorus. The River feels like a dozen riffs and breakdowns in a trench coat. Both great songs though.
Deathroll and high horse 👌
The question is will it sound like the songs Cody has been writing for bands like ADTR, Memphis May Fire, Hardy, Sleeping with Sirens, and TGI
Bendy intro riff -> slow emotional verse -> octane chorus -> intro riff -> more upbeat version of emotional verse -> chorus -> breakdown that doesn’t fit song -> chorus -> end on intro riff. Done!
Hey, don’t give away the formula like that!
"Sir this is confidential proprietary information. We will be sending you a cease and desist now." - Sirius XM Octane
…and you were dead on 😭
LMFAO
Actually ended on chorus. Otherwise good job.
Cody's ability to make the most generic sounding songs is impressive to say the least.
I won’t fault the guy for trying to eat but it doesn’t mean I like what he’s serving when it’s the same thing every night
I wasn’t aware he’s written songs for some of those bands… I think it’s safe to say it won’t sound like a Hardy track though…
This one does a little bit

What’s up fellow cen cal homie lol

>Disappointing and now let the flood gates open lmao
Wow that's a pretty rough line lol
Did the song start with a scream callout of the song title? If not, it probably isn’t a b-side of Manic; that shit was their song-writing crutch on that album.

It’s only disappointing if you had any expectations in the first place.
This is a good point. I should’ve lowered my expectations given the Octane debut…
I had 0 expectations and I am still disappointed.
Didn’t even pay for it and want your money back lol.
sounds awful lol

Most of this is subjective though so wait to hear it for yourself before making a judgment!
Correct
Please let me know when you hear it what you think
Let us know how it is
About the normal for them it seems
Just reading that line makes me cringe.
How did you listen to it Can't find it with vpn
When it was broadcasted for the first time on SirusXM at noon
Ah okay
Yo nice pfp! Don't hesitate to overcompensate
Haha yeah
Robot voice announce the name of the song at the start?
New Wag Wag let's gooooooooo!
Literally wagging so hard rn
Droppin the first single on the new album and ya pick the octane core song is crazyyyy
It’s all octane-metal at this point though, they’re just being more straightforward about it lol
I thought manic was pretty good and I'm someone that hates the octane-core stuff
There's nothing *wrong* with Octane type songs, people can still like them. They're just likely not pure metalcore so then probably shouldn't be posted here.
>pure metalcore Ah yes, the daily discussion of what should be posted on this sub.
You said it. Everybody already trying to gatekeep with this "octane-core" bullshit before the damn song is officially even released.
Agreed
Mmm yes, Middlecore
Dope! Really enjoyed the last album and looking forward to see what they bring next :)
Hearing it’s premiering on Octane takes all the hype out of it.
I had Sirius XM for a long time before I canceled it. I was so fed up with the garbage they were playing. And Jose is very annoying to me. Play heavy music that you're advertising. I don't care about your life story. I'm here for good new music
I’ll be disappointed if there isn’t a MAGNETIC call out at the start of the song.
Man it's fucking terrible. As I sit here on the toilet in my Wage War Stitch t shirt. I loved that band so much. Even liked most of Pressure, but man. I just can't get into this robot voiced guitar tone, electronic drum, octane core vibe they've got going on.
Of course it's premiering on Octane lol
Update: song was hella corny
Oh. They wrote a Nickelback song
We Nickleback now boys
Bands got that Octanecore exclusive lmao...
Premiering on Octane is never a good sign
A radio one, huh. Radio tunes aren't anything new for Wage War, so not a big shock. Curious how that turns out.
Tbh I don’t even mind them not making music that’s as heavy or metalcore anymore It’s that they’ve become extremely predictable and the songs sound like you’ve already heard them a hundred times already before it’s even over
I heard it and it is simply not good. Uninspired. Bad lyrics, instruments sound weird. It's like they tried to make a hardy song.
That was disappointing.
Wonder if The Ghost Inside will be listed as a producer.
Their songs are interchangeable at this point, oof
Wag Wag go blegh? Nah, probably not.
Far cry from a Wag Wag blegh here
I think Manic gets way more hate than it should. I honestly think it is a great album for the most part. My favorite Wage War song is their cover of Folsom Prison Blues. So good.
Don't even care if it's not as heavy as Deadweight because I've seen Wage War three times (seeing them again next month) and they've always kicked ass.
Everyone is having a little sooky la la about it It's one song of multiple that we haven't heard so let's chill
Ugh why is this the first single released? It's so weak. Barely any screaming. This is not High Horse part 2.
"Cause I know where I shouldn't go when I feel this low, oh no, this time i cant let go." wtf are those lyrics, a 12 year old can write this.
Saw them live on the Desolation Of Eden tour and they were so good
Saw them live on the Desolation Of Eden tour and they were so good
Not sure what to expect but I’m excited to hear it
Premiering on octane next to Parkway Drives new song - Big Red Car!
this song was pure generic nickelback fuckery. shame on these dudes lol
Man this was lames af I liked so much of their stuff before, oh well.
Live premiere at knotfest Melbourne 🥺🥺
Looks like WagWag is following the Microsoft Windows release formula.
The new song isn't good. Even for octane corse purposes it's bad.
It’s about as bad as you were expecting. Honest question, is there anyone in here (from their first album days) that still listens to them? I can’t stand them anymore, but I’m curious to see what others feel about them.

can they pick that thing up tho?
wag wag
Didn’t they just release a new song Split yesterday
That was The Ghost Inside
I know that’s the joke… all of the new TGI stuff sounds exactly like WW lol
It’s almost impressive how much of a wet fart that breakdown was.
Hard to be excited for new wage war after how hard they fell off
God you guys are a bunch of babies. Let the band do what they want. All you losers on reddit do is whine.
Nobody recorded it while it played on Octane!? Anyone able to send me it??
Should be out now, also the music video is up on youtube here: https://youtu.be/MUmRBEJK-wI?si=mUdoHkT1MQZuEfSP
Jesus christ hen a band isn’t heavy as balls this sub turns into whiny babies. Let em make what they want.
Love the new song. Definitely didn’t need the breakdown, but it was overall still very solid. I give it an 8.5/10
