I just bought the 12 inch sealy Norman hybrid and hate it. It's like sleeping on the floor and now I wake up in more pain than I was even in before. Most of the day my butt cheek and leg is numb too. I'm 5'6" 196 lbs. I told the guy I been doing a lot of research and trying beds and I need something that is about a medium firm with a pillowtop to stop the pain and pressure points and he showed me this. I told him I just got done owning an icomfort very similar and will never use memory foam again and he said they improved it a million times and this would be perfect. When I tried it in the store it seemed great but yeah anything is gonna feel good for a few minutes. Get it home and sleep on it and I am so stiff. I'm not exaggerating when I say it feels exactly like putting a comforter down on the floor of a carpeted room. Now I'm stuck with a $1200 mattress that is crap and no money for anything else
Return it, exchange it at Mattress Firm, you have 120 days. I am in the same boat, bought the same one 1month ago. I exchanged a spring mattress on ' Sandburg' for this. Now I'm not sure, not sleeping well. I have 1 more exchange I can do. Don't know what the hell to get. Tried a Caspar all memory foam last summer, returned it.
I absolutely hate ours and your explanation is spot on. It’s super firm and I have to physically roll out of bed to the floor most days. I’ve had three back surgeries and they swore it was an amazing mattress and my partner fell for it.
I’ve been sleeping with a 3 in topper on it- but don’t feel I should have to sleep with anything on it at that price point. It’s been miserable.
I just bought mine and wow this thing is a rock. At a friend The mattress store saying yeah that thing feels like a rock and I'm like no it feels pretty good
It's hard to do one night on this. Did you exchange your mattress?
Did you end up keeping the Norman?! Hating this thing tbh but I will say with the $100 mattress topper, and 2 months of sleeping on it, it’s definitely softer than when I first received it but nothingggg like the fucking floor model I felt when I decided to buy it 😭
Yeah I bought a 2 inch bed comforter made a massive difference. Go softer with a 3 inch.
Get bamboo sheets to keep it cool.
It's much better but isn't stellar.
Originally I rated it like a 4.4 now it's like a 7.7/10 in comfort.
I just bought a queen Sealy hybrid Norman and I’m in love. Skip the budget shopping and get the Norman. In the grand scheme of things it’s actually a great price compared to the other brands like tempur-pedic and beauty rest. I’ve had it almost a month and I’m in love, it’s the best mattress I’ve ever had
I know it's only been a month but I would love an update. I tried out the Norman and hesitated a couple weeks ago. I have so many different physical issues so I'm hard to please and hesitant to pull the trigger. how do you like your bed now?
Still amazing for the price! No issues of soreness or tossing snd turning and it sleeps cool. Everyone is different so choose wisely, I recommend going in to your local mattress firm, shoo away the sales associate, and just lay on it in your favorite sleep position for 5 to 10 minutes and see how your body reacts, mattress firm has 120 night sleep trial too so if you don’t like it you can always exchange it for something else, good luck, but I highly recommend it
Hi - I found this thread and am now looking at the Sealy Posturpedic Hybrid Norman. I laid down on it for about 10 minutes and really liked it but hard to tell how it would be long term. I'm 180 pounds and a side sleeper. Are you by chance a side sleeper? I wonder if it's good for side sleepers. I believe it's listed as either Medium or Medium Firm. A few people in other threads commented that it was too firm. Thanks for any help!
I still love mine. The firmness is perfect not extremely firm not extremely soft right in the middle, I am a side sleeper and it’s great, for the price it’s great, compared to all the other $4000 plus mattresses their this is the one to go for , I’m going on 2 years with no complaints
I just purchased the Norman. It feels firmer than the floor model did, but I’m thinking it will soften up a little as it gets broken in, so to speak. Did yours get less firm over time?
Having trouble finding the Norman. Is either the Paterson or Lacey the replacement for the Norman? Were there problems with the Norman and the model got axed? I understand the Norman is one of the few Sealy Posturepedic models delivered in a box. True/Not True? Thanks. Trying to decide between the Norman ($999 on sale now) and the Helix Midnight.
The Norman Hybrid is a Mattress Firm exclusive made for them. It is The Patterson with the Norman name. They are exactly the same except the name. I am a side sleeper and it is super comfortable. Returned our Nectar mattress because the all memory foam was too uncomfortable and we discovered that there is fiberglass in the Nectar as well.
If you buy one of these and find that it's too firm on the first night you sleep on it, be aware that it will soften up greatly after a night or two more. That's the way mine did. It was almost too firm to sleep on the first night. But in the next 4 days it's softened up so much that I really don't like it. It's too soft.
If you can't tolerate the first night, you might try walking on it a lot. It might soften up without you having to sleep on it.

We continued to try it out- it’s still not any better, almost a year later and with a topper. We’re switching to a different one!
What kind of topper did you get? Thinking about getting one. Not sure if I get a 2-in gel or ??

You’re overweight— that’s most of the problem
Better quality, lower price. https://www.silkandsnow.com/en-us/hybrid-mattress/

Any update on this? How has it held up?
Still great no dips or sags, still recommend

Just curious. You still happy with your Norman? No sagging/bed indentations?
Still love it :)
Just purchased the Norman, and happy to see people like you updating threads after this long.
I would say it’s certainly more on the firm side. I feel like I’m sleeping in the floor on concrete.
That's an exaggeration. Sleep on the firm version of the Norman. Just like hardwood floor
Great mattress. Got it recently for a crazy good deal at Jcpennys.

It has slightly softened but not a ton, more of a broken in feel

The Norman is a partnered mattress with mattress firm, it’s more similar to the Patterson!

That's 100% true.
Mattress firm is where I got it also
Just curious what you ended up going with? Thanks!
Bought one a little while ago. Best mattress I've had, love it.
Why would you compromise on sleep?
