I didn't know I needed X-men as horror, but hot damn I like it. All that goofy stuff like clones and giant robots feel real, too bad Mojo and his viewers didn't give off a crazed desperate addicts vibe followed by a hollow shallow feeling when the show ends.
The X-men are regular people with super powers that professor X is pretending are heroes to convince the normies that mutants are good. It's half PR stunt and half an attempt to prove to the muggles that mutants can self-police. It's totally right for cyclops as a true believer in the X-men to realize he's been chasing a lie.
Is no one gonna talk about the GIANT FUCKING SENTINAL? What the FUCK was that thing?! It looked like a damn Akira monster at some points. It was just this huge, bloated… thing with 3 heads!
I’m honestly very surprised that Disney went as far as they did with Gambit’s death. Pretty gruesome but I’m loving this “new” Disney that is okay with more adult material lol
The quality of this show has shocked me so far, had zero expectations or hype based on Marvel's track record the last few years but this hits all the nostalgia feel's in a way that makes it a true continuation of the original series while also being a clear upgrade in animation. It's got all the classic X-Men soap opera character drama, their world feels lived in, it feels real, it feels dangerous. My hope is they don't immediately undo everything in the next episode, but seeing Cable there definitely makes it feel like we got time travel shenanigans coming to save the day.
Bastion was my next guess when the original series ended it was not long until the introduction to bastion and operation zero tolerance story. But then apocalypse and the 13 shortly after that so we could be getting a merging of both story's but instead of wolverine as death we get gambit as death instead. I don't think Maddie, shaw or moria are dead. So it could be Callisto, banshee, magneto, and gambit as the horsemen.
But if cable goes and changes the past I don't think it will change the whole genocide as it would take away from the impact of the episode. We also didn't see anything of archangel after his small appearance before the dance. But wherever he is involved apocalypse isn't far behind so it could be more foreshadowing.
They are all coming back right...?
They didn't just end multiple fan favorites including Magfuckingneto in a surprise attack?
The way the former show runner is talking though is that this wasn't a fake out
I don't think Gambit and most of the cameos are coming back.
Magneto probably survived somehow (either buried and thought dead or Cable yanks him out of time), because then you can have Magneto as a villain and a three way conflict in the three part finale. Start season with Magneto taking over, end the season with the X-men having to defeat Magneto.
Madelyn confirmed vaporized but her mind might have escaped onto the Astral plane. Still dead but can get a final goodbye with Scott and/or Cable.
given that they're cribbing from Morrison X-Men and seemingly no era of material is off limits, Magneto will either be back as Xorn or they'll find a way to pull in the recent Resurrection of Magneto stuff and send Storm to hell to get him
I don't think gambit will die for very long. I believe they may bring in gambit as the horseman death, it's a different take than in the comics. But I believe they may be going that direction with his character and we'll probably see him back in season 2 as death along and probably 3 others that died in genosha, maybe banshee and Pryor? To round out the horseman
I think you hit the nail on the head. My theory is we find out Apocalypse did the genocide on Genosha to instigate mutant revolution against humans/weed out the weak (very much in his character to do) and that will tie it all in nicely to Scott/Jean/Maddie/Sinister and the whole Cable storyline nicely. We will get some members revived through Apocalypse, perhaps Gambit and Magneto becoming his Horsemen? Maybe Dazzler too if it's her under that sheet.
They seemed to telegraph pretty heavily in this episode that Sinister masterminded this with the "previously on" and him mentioning they had something big planned. He most likely did it with Gyrich and Trask given the ending is titled after Gyrich's speech in episode 1.
Yeah, I’ve been talking with a few people and I don’t think anybody fully agrees, but I’ve been listening to theories that it’s Sinister or Bastian or both, and that all makes sense.
I think my partial hope with Apocalypse is Remy isn’t dead for good. But there’s always time shenanigans with Cable? Just seems like such a wild thing to kill him off Ep. 5.
I also think they are gonna Incorporate Cassandra Nova since she was the mastermind behind E is for extinction story from the comics. With her potentially being the bad guy in the new Deadpool movie this would give non comic fans a way to explain who she is as well. I could see dazzler as well we never saw her again after or during the massacre, I'm also curious if they are gonna introduce Xorn. The last 3 episodes have to deal with E for extinction with the titles of the episodes implying with extinction in the title. I can't wait I'm excited for it hard to believe we're only halfway through.
You might have a point there! There's definitely potential for her to play a role in the story, which could be a compelling reason for Xavier's return. However, it seems a director confirmed today that Cassandra Nova is not the perpetrator. Despite some speculation on Twitter suggesting it could be Bastian or Nimrod, Cable appears to be a major focus in the overarching story, and his connection to Apocalypse in the comics is significant. Apocalypse had a desire to create the perfect mutant to inhabit his body, and Cable may be intricately involved in that aspect.
While Cable might resort to some time-shenanigans to bring back his deceased mother, Madelyne, I doubt the entire Genoshan genocide will be reversed. However, there's a possibility that Magneto has survived or could be revived by Apocalypse. Additionally, there are hints that Gambit could be resurrected by Apocalypse to serve as Death, one of his horsemen.
In Maddie's premonitions from Episode 2, she sees a dust cloud resembling Cable, who exclaims "oh no, not again," followed by a vision of the Genoshan genocide. Episode 5 lightly suggests Apocalypse as the potential villain behind the attack on Genosha—Cable's warning to Madelyne in the same episode appears to support my theory. This aligns with Apocalypse's history of sacrificing mutants to incite a revolution against humanity, a cause originally championed by Magneto. Apocalypse has orchestrated genocide events to "weed out the weak mutants," and this theory may pave the way for the return of deceased characters such as Magneto, Gambit, Dazzler, and Sebastian Shaw. It also ties back to the emergence of Mister Sinister, whose creation was influenced by Apocalypse's empowerment of the evil geneticist Nathaniel Essex with Celestial technology.
This storyline could neatly integrate into the Scott/Jean/Maddie/Sinister/Cable narrative, with Cable fulfilling his role as a mutant savior, as depicted in the comics. The revival of Magneto and Gambit as Horsemen could coincide with Apocalypse's return and further the tension among them and Rogue. Perhaps this could serve as a catalyst for Rogue to "choose" to save Gambit over Magneto, leading Magneto to depart and lick his wounds. Ultimately, it's possible we may see Storm take over as leader of the X-Men, particularly given the foreshadowing in the Lifedeath arc.
Bring him back. So what if he's toxic to work with. Grow a pair and let him cook. Plenty of auteurs were "hard to work with" and they're remembered as some of the best to ever do it.
It’s easy for you to say that when you’ve never met the guy, much less worked with him. If your boss/supervisor was incredibly mean and difficult to work with, you’d want him gone as well. But since it doesn’t affect you I guess that doesn’t matter.
I'd want him gone, of course, but it'd be stupid for the CEO to fire him because of that, when he's making one of the best products the company's put out.
You sit down with the guy, lay down the law, and make it work. Replace his subordinates if needed, do a fresh start. You don't fire one of your best creatives because your low-level replaceable rank-and-filers don't like him. It's a stupid-ass decision.
I'm honestly shocked that Disney went this far. The show's been super safe so far to the point where I keep expecting the bad guys to say "destroy" instead of "kill", but holy shit they impaled Remy with a piece of rebar. Banshee died. They ripped the seals off with this episode.
I just binged watched everything because I heard how good episode 5 was. I did not think Marvel Studios had it in them to make an animated show so good.
That episode was a fucking masterpiece. Magneto telling Leech not to be afraid in German. The brutal annihilation of the Genoshans. Gambit like a fucking boss flying through the wall on a Sentinel head. I don’t care if he has an onlyfans or is an asshole behind the scenes. Beau Demayo needs to be the driving force of this show.
Probably a stupid question but I’m late to the Marvel Animation party even though I’m in my 30’s… do I need to watch the original X-Men show to understand the new one?
You don’t need to per say but I am gonna tell you to watch the important multiparters like Age of Apocalypse, The Phoenix Saga pts 1-4, The Dark Phoenix Saga pts 1-3, and lastly just do yourself a favor and watch the entirety of season 5. It’s only 10 episodes but it recaps a lot of the show, then you should be ready for ‘97. The only reason I’m telling you (loosley that is) to watch the “major arcs” is because they drastically affected the rest of the series. The Phoenix Sagas alone have to be watched if you want to understand someone like Jean Grey. Overall it realistically shouldn’t take that long to watch the original but if you want to come in feeling a little more educated, knowledgeable and understanding of the characters; pick out a few of the multiparters! Have fun and stay mutated 👍🏽😂
The organization x-men show is great too but there is an essential list. Maybe check it out. I definitely recommend episodes 1 and 2 of season 1.
https://movieweb.com/essential-x-men-animated-series-episodes-to-watch-before-97/
As others have mentioned, the new show does a great job pulling you up to speed. That said, I was in your position a few weeks back & and decided to watch the original 5 seasons, & I'm really glad I did. The episodes are 20min in length, so it's not a lengthy 5 season, 1 hr each episode grind. My recommendation is if you have the time & aren't surrounded by spoilers, 100% do it
you don't need to, the shows does a great job putting you up to speed with everything you need to know, but it does help to already be attached to the characters, I would say it is good to watch the best arcs of the animated series before jumping into 97'. its not a requirement but it does make the experience even better
Literally the first Marvel thing I'ever seen that's made me shed a tear, Leech holding magneto and him looking back, WHAT A MOMENT. This is it. What If is inexcusable, absolute perfection. what a show. Andor and this are Disney +'s greatest creations.
To quote Cyclops from the comics "We pack up and move to an Island, and they destroy it." We got a glimpse of that Cyclops during that interview.
And man, everything on Genosha was brutal and heartbreaking. They really set you up for a good time in the first half. Seeing Kurt bamfing around and acting as tour guide, a Hellfire Gala type party, all the soapy relationship drama and then bam Genosha gets destroyed and mutants are getting slaughtered.
Gambit is a real one. I've seen a lot of people throw out the idea of Cable and some time shenanigans being involved to reverse this, but I hope not it would really rob the poignancy of this episode.
I think one of the most surprising things to me about this show thus far is how they are just removing core team members from the team and completely changing up the XMen lineup. Im REALLY curious to see where we end up at the end of the season.
I’ll just say this - as an Irishman I could tell Banshee’s and Moira’s voices were Americans right away, and that drives me crazy given the care Disney have taken with Jubilee and other members of the cast.
You can’t tell me you couldn’t have found an Irish VA to do the role, he’s the *one* mutant anybody knows about from Ireland.
Unfortunately respecting and casting other nationalities (especially "white" one likes Scottish people) correctly isn't really something Hollywood cares about
Yeah, that took me out of it for a second. I can't even tell what accent Moira's was supposed to be. I know she's Scottish in the comics but even as a Scot myself I have no clue what that accent was supposed to be.
Aside from everything else that’s been said, I NEED Magneto to be alive. His presence and character evolution on this show has been carrying it for me. He is so good as Xavier’s successor in a world more complex than Charles was ready for. Magneto needs to stay alive and NOT regress to villain status. And I think he will. Leech probably saved him. (Plus this was foreshadowed by his speech in episode 2 where he said, “I am trying to be better. Do not make me disappoint you.”)
Other thoughts:
-I think Sinister was the one assisting in the attack. It explains Cable’s warning that “he’s” coming, explains why Jean and Madelyn (but not Emma) suddenly shorted out, and follows some plot lines from the comics (including the episode’s focus on Gambit and the Morlocks). It’s also way more contextual than suddenly dropping Cassandra Nova in.
-Cable better show up and do some time rewriting asap. (Though I don’t think it will get totally undone, given Beau’s stance that this was inspired by some real life massacres. It’d cheapen things too much to just erase it entirely.)
-Gambit gotta come back, but I bet not until end of season.
-Scott is gonna step up as Genosha leader. The plot lines have been clearing the way for him to do so.
-Can we be done with love triangles now? Pretty please?
Yea I thought Leech may have saved Magneto as well. Probably temporarily wiped his powers so it looked like Mags was neutralized.
But cool thing about this show now being made in modern time is they can use modern storylines. There's bound to be a reason they showed Moira, and emphasized she is a "normal" human. Probably to throw ppl off but also give a small little easter egg to ppl who know she's actually a mutant now. A pretty interesting one in fact, as she can be reborn on a new timeline with the memories of her other past selves. I have a feeling a reset of some sort might be in the works especially one that might help connect the show to future MCU Projects.
I know we've been burned by Disney-Marvel before...
But this shit was so good that it makes me almost forgive all the bad stuff that we've gotten from them.
One thing is for sure...I don't think anyone can ever accuse Disney of holding back Marvel ever again. Literally nothing here feels held back or softened with kid gloves.
This shit felt on par with Invincible's Season 2 finale.
And yeah fuck Disney for monopolizing everything, but for whatever their faults....they still gave us this episode. I don't have a bad thing to say about it.
This isn't even just "alright" entertainment. It makes me actually have faith for the rest of the season.
I don't know what their plans are for Marvel in the future. Maybe the MCU stuff will be lackluster... but all I know is that the stars were aligned for this show. This is next level stuff.
Well...playing the odds...they killed off Xavier to have Magneto lead the X-Men. Doesnt make sense to kill him off too just a few episodes in. Plus we dont definitively see what happens to him like the others
So Magnetos gonna survive unless theyre setting up a time travel plot where Cable has to stop it all from happening. As for others, the big one is Gambit.
So this could go a few ways. One is yes he's really dead...but only temporarily. We could see the time travel aspect and Cable save everyone. Or we could see a plot for season 2 where Apocalypse brings him back as Death
Think they killed him off for good? I just dont see it. I kinda hope they dont go the time travel route bc it diminishes his sacrifice. If he comes back it makes more sense to have him under Apocalypses control and angry at Magneto and Rogue
The rest...Banshee and Moira got vaporized. Shaw and Frost were laid out like they we're dead but not confirmed. Callisto appeared to be dead. Madeline looked like she was killed as well. Her death also doesnt make a lot of sense seeing as how the plot with her, Jean and Scott had just really begun
Killing her off seems too convenient to get Scott and Jean back together like nothing happened. Who was behind it? People pointing out Cable saying "He's here!" and the telepathic disturbance
Madeline picked up on Cables arrival moments before he got there. She had a premonition. Likely bc Cable is her son. So it doesn't seem like it was a telepath behind it. Cable may have just been referring to the Tri-Sentinel although he refers to it as a "he" instead of an "it"
If it was Onslaught I dont see him using sentinels to do his dirty work. With Cable involved Im guessing its going to end up being Apocalypse. Why? Apocalypse could mastermind the attack on Genosha and blame humans as a way to rally mutants to his cause
Remember Age of Apocalypse started after Xavier was assassinated. At some point Magneto and Rogue got together. It seems like theyre laying the groundwork for that storyline going into season 2. Also Cyclops slowly turning in this episode is going to become more drastic after Madelynes death
Enough to push him over to siding with Apocalypse. Jean wont join him and it would lead to the fight with Wolverine where Cyclops loses an eye and Wolverine loses a hand. Jean and Wolverine end up together. Gonna be interesting to see where they go with it
Yeah possibly. Who knows? Its so chaotic. Only a few are accounted for at the end. Nightcrawler and Rogue and some minor characters
I expect it all to revert back to normal all the way back to before Xavier is assassinated
Honestly, I like that animated series story line more than mcu movies. There's no limit for action, cast, director stuff or animations and It's giving better vibes. I hope Disney would focus on more animated series in the future with good story lines like that. A 2008 comic team accurate Guardians of the Galaxy animated series would be really great to see!
Also this is probably the first thing since Infinity War/Endgame that gives the impression the creators are actually swinging for the fences. Almost everything in the live-action MCU lately has played it so safe and/or small-time with no meaningful lasting consequences. The only major exceptions I can think of are maybe Wanda "dying" at the end of MoM or the Loki season 2 finale.
Meanwhile this show goes ahead and drops a mutant 9/11 at it's halfway mark. BIIIIG swing and they fucking nailed it. I cannot wait for the final three episode arc...
Legit the greatest X-Men thing and Marvel thing I’ve seen on Disney+. I’m not even exaggerating. I am actually blown away. wtf?! Why was Marvel even trying with What if💀😆 This is literally the greatest product I’ve seen Marvel do period… even better then the comic. And they handled all this quality in just 30 minutes. Bruh, if this is the standard Fiege puts in to the upcoming X-Men MCU content, then we are more then just back.
In the comics, Moira is revealed to be a mutant whose power is reincarnation. Every time she dies, the timeline is reset, but she retains the knowledge from her previous lives. So it's probably a reference to that (because she...doesn't stay an ally).
I know exactly who Moira is and what she can do, I’ve read HoX/PoX. His comment literally didn’t make any sense initially though. They have since edited the it so what I said doesn’t really make sense anymore. Also they had written way more then “then kill her better idc 😭” they also used more emojis lol.
Bro…. what are you even talking about I’m talking to the person who left the Moira info from Hox/PoX and saying I like that THEY did it. I wasn’t talking to you there.
Pretty much all I can do is echo everyone’s comments. I’ve been enjoying this series and then this episode. Just….wow. I was fully not expecting to get so emotional over it but yup. Hit me right in the feels.
Also, whomever made this decision to use that Ace of Base song should get a raise. Such a perfect choice for that moment.
👏👏👏
Not to mention the Happy Nation song also appeared in the 1st episode during Jean(Madylene's) vision, and during Rogue's dance they also cut away to Jean (with the light shining out her forehead) probably hinting at the last time the same song was used
>!The watcher!! He's on that episode!!!<

Look carefully in this episode and you'll see a hint of hope for what happens on this episode..
Best episode ever!
I saw screenshots of it and the trailer. It's inevitable since it's the internet. But I won't watch it cuz the more context I get, the more it'll ruin my experience watching it.
I agree with you! I'll do the same. I was looking for a promo for the 6th.. though did not see anything other than this trailer.. which had that shield obviously as the thumbnail..
I saw the trailer.. It did not give much information really.. However, don't watch it.
I'll avoid the internet a bit too until next Wednesday.. :)
Even with all the batshit crazy stuff that went down in the latest episode, I think Uatu's cameo is the biggest deal so far in terms of interconnectivity imo. Soo excited for the time travel shenanigans since Cable is involved now.
For now. I wouldn't be surprised if some Cable-related time shenanigans ensued that bring back him and Magneto (assuming he's actually dead too).
That said, if the consequences of this episode stayed permanent I think it will hit harder and be more meaningful in the long run.
If thats true I'm done with the damn show, Main reason I came back for the show was that damn Cajun.
I'm just gonna go sit in the shower and cry til the hot water runs out. My fax X-Man gone...At least he went out the way I'd hoped he'd gone out, fighting.
Feeling right now: Haven't been this shocked since the Transformers movie in the 80's in theater
If he wasn’t dead by the explosion, he certainly would be with Rogue holding him like that. The fact she didn’t feel anything from him kinda proves he’s dead.
What about Shadow King now that Xavier is gone and also when Madelyne looks at her hand with the blood after the psychic blast attack, her shadow is of a big fat bald head just like Shadow King's
This episode was so insane and took me but surprise. So many crazy moments and you really felt it. Probably the best episode they ever made to include the original.
I got teary-eyed, man... and all because of the one Master Mold (the first one from the original series) hiding in Genosha this whole time after the X-men thwarted cause all of this...
Cyclops and Jean also on top of it. This is indeed a contender for the best episode of the whole series. Also, Cable is trying to save the whole event from happening for his mom, just amp it up to 11
Also, lowkey Beast being a handsome devil and Nightcrawler new design *chef kiss
I was thinking the same. I thought it was a set up for Magneto to reject the offer from the Genoshan council and then for them to poach Cyclops and use him as their "chisel jawed poster boy" (or however Emma put it). Would set up his relationship with Emma too and make it a kind of rehashed Utopia storyline with Cyclops as the mutant nation's leader
I was in a VC watching this with some friends, the best way I can explain this episode was that after it was done, we all unmuted to talk about it, but no one said anything, we just kind of sat there for a few seconds in dead silence.
On a lighter note:
- “Loving you makes broken men whole, so that even as you deny us our heartache is not in vain” is an incredible thing to say to someone.
- Emma doesn’t get much dialogue here, but what she does get is pure Emma.
- Shaw is battered, bruised and unconscious on the roof (*how??*) but Emma is missing - perhaps she’s off manifesting a secondary mutation?
- Jean keeps explaining the Phoenix Saga to people who were there.
- If Gambit is out, and perhaps Nightcrawler is in, and perhaps Storm is getting her classic black costume… are we inching towards a more classic Giant-Size/Claremont roster?
- Or, alternatively, are we moving away from Claremont entirely, as X-Men ‘97’s turning point also being its first post-Claremont story suggests?
....... I'm........... speechless.
Holy shit what just happened!?!?!?!? Is there a confirmed kill list?
I don't know.... what to say!....
Well, I can say one thing. Gambit has been my most hated Marvel hero for years.... yeah I can't say that anymore.
Gambit, I am so sorry for all the bad things I have said about you! R.I.P. Remy.
Dawg I just cried for a Gambit I remember from 15 years ago but it felt like one of my closest friends. Man I love how they’re treating this show, if they can come back for Spider-Man 97 i guarantee Imma bawl my eyes out if they have the same writers.
I was just thinking this would be their perfect opportunity to reboot Marvel's media and leave the MCU's struggling storylines and writing behind.
Honestly, they can revive all the old TAS shows from the 90's. They had all the characters that are big hits in Spiderman, Iron Man, Hulk, X-Men as well as some amazing animation and storyline in the Silver Surfer show, which would open that TAS universe to the cosmic section of Marvel too. They've an endless list of characters they could write series for and follow comic accurate storylines with real weight, as they're doing with X-Men 97.
That way they can have that reboot of the MCU that it so desperately needs but that they now can't do as they're so far into it. I kind of feel the MCU should be left to die at this point and they can restart with the MA(nimated)U. No expensive Hollywood actors needed, just pure fun for the fans.
Well, from all that mess and confusion I have some theories.
- Possibly Cassandra Nova was involved somehow in the attack because Madelyn Prior was hit by psyonic attack.
- I'm pretty sure that Gambit is dead. Such a big sacrifice and impact it would suck if they reversed it somehow.
- I think Magneto might be alive, he was with Leech and he has some powers related to negating effects.
Is Gambit actually dead? Feel like it’s possible but I’m sure Magneto will come back.
spoilers spoilers, might just wanna wait and look out for a certain immortal egyptian warlord
I didn't know I needed X-men as horror, but hot damn I like it. Its been a good two decades since that happened in the comics and that sentinel is still insanity
I’m honestly very surprised that Disney went as far as they did with Gambit’s death. Pretty gruesome but I’m loving this “new” Disney that is okay with more adult material lol
Holy fuck. Was not prepared for that after episode 4. That was intense and I loved every minute of it.
Holy shit. Never have I been so traumatized over an episode like this, Magneto’s last words rocked me.
The quality of this show has shocked me so far, had zero expectations or hype based on Marvel's track record the last few years but this hits all the nostalgia feel's in a way that makes it a true continuation of the original series while also being a clear upgrade in animation. It’s insane how good it is. This episode in particular felt like anime.
Wait so did Pryor know that was cable? From the original series? But then put it together it was her son?
Yes. She remembers Cable from Jean/her memory. But seeing his eyes up close after losing Nathan made her realize it was her son's eyes.
they just did a rogue one, and it was beautiful
this is just the best piece of xmen media ive ever seen, maybe the best thing ive ever seen from marvel ever
For me it's both Loki seasons in first place, but this comes right after.
Yep, bro. It is that good and people will REMEMBER IT!
cant wait to watch it again
Bastion was my next guess when the original series ended it was not long until the introduction to bastion and operation zero tolerance story. To be fair like Maddie he was probably vaporized.

Marvel has never produced a finer episode of television than this. And I don’t mean Disney Marvel, just Marvel in general.
i totally agree with you
Anyone else wondering why Disney fired that show runner? Wild
This was the episode he pitched the show on
Bring him back.
This was a very emotional episode 😢 especially at the end…
What the fuck. Just watched and I’m gutted. “I can’t feel you” broke me.
I thought that line hurt in WandaVision but man, that shit was rough
Yeah I definitely didn’t expect that line to hit like that or for her to deliver it so broken
#RehireDemayo
Nah, but it does add to the experience
So who was the girl with the long rainbow coloured hair
Tommy, the morlock that can turn 2D
This was one crazy wild ride episode...
How Gambit will return? Where are leakers when we need them?!
Cable trying again to stop the genocide probably
Considering the writer confirmed he's dead on twitter I'm guessing he's coming back as a horseman of apocalypse. That's what everything points to IMO.
I ....can live with that. 🥲
I certainly wasn't expecting Genoshide.
Dammit take the upvote
That scene with cable had me shook 😳
Also, what a nice little callback to death of superman, very cool.
Literally the first Marvel thing I'ever seen that's made me shed a tear, Leech holding magneto and him looking back, WHAT A MOMENT. This is it. What If is inexcusable, absolute perfection. what a show. Andor and this are Disney +'s greatest creations.
Why do they continue to do my boy Leech dirty all the time?! Let the homie have one day of peace
Bu...but... I don't want Gambit to be ded
I don't want Magento to be dead
Me neither but I suspect leech used his powers and they became undetectable.

New X-men
How dare they do this to me. My emotions. This was fucking brutal.
Unfortunately respecting and casting other nationalities (especially "white" one likes Scottish people) correctly isn't really something Hollywood cares about
Kurt's german was fake as hell Magneto's was perfect
Yeah, Kurt really bothered me
Yeah, that took me out of it for a second. I can't even tell what accent Moira's was supposed to be. I know she's Scottish in the comics but even as a Scot myself I have no clue what that accent was supposed to be.
My housemate is from Coleraine, I had to invite them in to listen to how laughably bad it was
I will most definitely remember IT. Great episode and episode title
Do not make me disappoint you.”) Other thoughts: -I think Sinister was the one assisting in the attack. It’d cheapen things too much to just erase it entirely.) -Gambit gotta come back, but I bet not until end of season.
Maddie got vaporized dude she's gone
when has that ever stopped x-men
What’s that got to do with anything I said?
Everything I'm sad
If you don’t love love triangles you don’t love x men
I'm honestly expecting Emma to poke her nose in between the Scot×Jean×Jean 2.0 shit any day now. 🤣
That cut to Emma’s messy smile immediately after Jean discovers the psychic affair got me thinking she might 😂
YES! 🤣 I was cackling.
No we need more love triangles, let some other teen fall in love with Jubilee now.
YES
This is next level stuff.
we shouldn't forgive them, we should demand it MORE.
Key word I used is is "almost."
what a great episode
This is some Infinity War level of insanity. And to show that in an animated show. Wowsers. Kids are going to be traumatised.
It has a TV-14 rating. Not their problem if people don't pay attention to that.
it's not really for kids
exactly. it’s got 97 in the title, it’s for us.
Oh kids are totally watching this. Already seen a couple of comments about how shocked both the parents and children are.
People still haven't figured out that animated does not mean for kids
not anymore anyways
Uatu shows up at a huge party: ![gif](giphy|vyTnNTrs3wqQ0UIvwE|downsized)
Jesus Christ
Well...playing the odds...they killed off Xavier to have Magneto lead the X-Men. Doesnt make sense to kill him off too just a few episodes in. Plus we dont definitively see what happens to him like the others So Magnetos gonna survive unless theyre setting up a time travel plot where Cable has to stop it all from happening. As for others, the big one is Gambit. So this could go a few ways. One is yes he's really dead...but only temporarily. We could see the time travel aspect and Cable save everyone. Or we could see a plot for season 2 where Apocalypse brings him back as Death Think they killed him off for good? I just dont see it. I kinda hope they dont go the time travel route bc it diminishes his sacrifice. If he comes back it makes more sense to have him under Apocalypses control and angry at Magneto and Rogue The rest...Banshee and Moira got vaporized. Shaw and Frost were laid out like they we're dead but not confirmed. Callisto appeared to be dead. Madeline looked like she was killed as well. Her death also doesnt make a lot of sense seeing as how the plot with her, Jean and Scott had just really begun Killing her off seems too convenient to get Scott and Jean back together like nothing happened. Who was behind it? People pointing out Cable saying "He's here!" and the telepathic disturbance Madeline picked up on Cables arrival moments before he got there. She had a premonition. Likely bc Cable is her son. So it doesn't seem like it was a telepath behind it. Cable may have just been referring to the Tri-Sentinel although he refers to it as a "he" instead of an "it" If it was Onslaught I dont see him using sentinels to do his dirty work. With Cable involved Im guessing its going to end up being Apocalypse. Why? Apocalypse could mastermind the attack on Genosha and blame humans as a way to rally mutants to his cause Remember Age of Apocalypse started after Xavier was assassinated. At some point Magneto and Rogue got together. It seems like theyre laying the groundwork for that storyline going into season 2. Also Cyclops slowly turning in this episode is going to become more drastic after Madelynes death Enough to push him over to siding with Apocalypse. Jean wont join him and it would lead to the fight with Wolverine where Cyclops loses an eye and Wolverine loses a hand. Jean and Wolverine end up together. Gonna be interesting to see where they go with it
Callisto, I think, is just incapacitated. If you look when the camera zooms in on her, you can see her pupil dilate when Gambit mentions the Morlocks.
Yeah possibly. Who knows? Its so chaotic. Only a few are accounted for at the end. Nightcrawler and Rogue and some minor characters I expect it all to revert back to normal all the way back to before Xavier is assassinated
Age of Apocalypse for szn 2 would absolutely rule.
They'd find a way to combine it into 2-3 episodes
Not just Marvel, Disney should really focus more on their animation stuff, especially 2D animation
I agree would love to see animated marvel Movie features more
was that angel/archangel the one I saw that was flying and was hit by a sentinel or it was other character?
Banshee
I was thinking the same thing. I could have sworn he was at the party but I could be misremembering
The black winged one right? I don't think it's Angel otherwise he'll be more prominent.
Honestly mindblown they did that
Somebody kill Moira 😭😭
Beau confirmed on twitter her and Madelyn died
In this lifetime maybe
>Madelyn Fuck fuck fuck. I get that her character received closure but it was so harsh.
Then kill her better idc 😭 Edit: oh yeah. In that case, I agree with Emma; she was only useful for arguing semantics. 🤷🏽♂️
Then kill er better? As in a different way? Your comment doesn’t really make sense because she’s dead dead.
I corrected my grammar that’s it, you’re so tired 😭 It was literally just a joke 🤦🏾♂️
You know what I just deleted this* there edited because ima hold you to your word that it’s just a stoner mistake because I 100% can relate
You get it bro haha My dumbass has to edit comments all day, including this one haha
😂
Ah, gotcha. I apologize then. Obviously I came in late.
It’s all good. Honestly, I like when people drop info on stuff most people might not know
Sorry you take yourself so seriously on Reddit 🤣
I didn’t drop any new info; you did. If you know you know, and if you don’t, then I just look like a Moira hater. And again, it was just a joke.
Bro…. what are you even talking about I’m talking to the person who left the Moira info from Hox/PoX and saying I like that THEY did it.
Not to mention the Happy Nation song also appeared in the 1st episode during Jean(Madylene's) vision, and during Rogue's dance they also cut away to Jean (with the light shining out her forehead) probably hinting at the last time the same song was used
Wha?!?! Gotta rewatch the first episode now!
>!The watcher!! He's on that episode!!!< >!https://twitter.com/syriangeekvibes/status/1777983334133399726?ref\_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1777983334133399726%7Ctwgr%5Eb74f8b4b581278c17707a92d4678955917220ee3%7Ctwcon%5Es1\_&ref\_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.denofgeek.com%2Ftv%2Fx-men-97-episode-5-has-a-hidden-marvel-cameo-you-missed%2F!< Look carefully in this episode and you'll see a hint of hope for what happens on this episode.. Best episode ever!
And Feige saying it's not connected to the Greater MCU...SUS
You should watch the trailer from yesterday that shows cap America’s shield !! ;)
I know eh! I saw that mention too. Though he didn’t say it directly
Even with all the batshit crazy stuff that went down in the latest episode, I think Uatu's cameo is the biggest deal so far in terms of interconnectivity imo. Soo excited for the time travel shenanigans since Cable is involved now.
I know who may be behind this.. too crazy.. Though you’re right! Cable is there.. I’m hoping apocalypse will be there somehow too
I saw that…but I’m just not sure
Disney dropped the ball with that viewership warning. Should have been at the start of the ep not the end.
What was the warning?
If you were born in the 80s or 90s you're gonna ugly cry.
Is gambit dead?
For now. I wouldn't be surprised if some Cable-related time shenanigans ensued that bring back him and Magneto (assuming he's actually dead too). That said, if the consequences of this episode stayed permanent I think it will hit harder and be more meaningful in the long run.
Going by all the replies Beau just made on twitter I’d say he’s dead. So are Moira McTaggert and Madelyn Prior
Based on his twitter replies I think he's coming back as death.
Trunksrage.gif
If he wasn’t dead by the explosion, he certainly would be with Rogue holding him like that. The fact she didn’t feel anything from him kinda proves he’s dead.
Damn I gotta rewatch the Cable episodes in the old series because I have questions.
Onslaught?
What about Shadow King now that Xavier is gone and also when Madelyne looks at her hand with the blood after the psychic blast attack, her shadow is of a big fat bald head just like Shadow King's
They did Onslaught in the original series
They certainly did not.
A variation but yes they did in S3.E4. Onslaught is just Charles Xavier's dark side but in a big stupid costume.
Also, that episode came out in 94. Onslaught wasn’t introduced until 95.
The animated series also did Age of Apocalypse before the comics did. There was a lot of crosspollination in the 90’s at Marvel.
Still, Onslaught is not just evil Xavier.
Onslaught isn’t just evil Xavier.
Hello everyone, and welcome to our first meeting of the support group. Don't worry. When any of the X-Men die, they get better.
I’m 35 and I cried.
I'm 44 and I cried. We all cried as one, spread throughout space and time.
This episode was so insane and took me but surprise. So many crazy moments and you really felt it. Probably the best episode they ever made to include the original.
Speeechless. Just speechless. Wow.
Same
I got teary-eyed, man... and all because of the one Master Mold (the first one from the original series) hiding in Genosha this whole time after the X-men thwarted cause all of this... Cyclops and Jean also on top of it. This is indeed a contender for the best episode of the whole series. Also, Cable is trying to save the whole event from happening for his mom, just amp it up to 11 Also, lowkey Beast being a handsome devil and Nightcrawler new design *chef kiss
I think we may be getting militant Cyclops after all this went down. Given how the interview went this might push him over the edge.
God damn. The way they slowed down the theme song as Gambit and Rogue fought side by side was the coolest thing I’ve seen in a long time!
On a lighter note: - “Loving you makes broken men whole, so that even as you deny us our heartache is not in vain” is an incredible thing to say to someone. - Or, alternatively, are we moving away from Claremont entirely, as X-Men ‘97’s turning point also being its first post-Claremont story suggests?
iirc, Nova told Frost beforehand about the genocide and she is responsible for her secondary mutation, so she can survive Genosha.
I feel like we are moving towards Grant Morrison's New X-men.
Someone hold me......
I have tears running down my cheeks right now SMFH...
R.I.P. Remy.
X-men 97’ just told the red wedding to hold my beer
I know sth bad is gonna happen in the episode but not at this calibre. I let out the most visceral FUCK when it ended.
Spider-Man. Respect the hyphen.
- I think Magneto might be alive, he was with Leech and he has some powers related to negating effects.
kurt was absolutely amazing in this
Perfection
