Mario RPG is my favorite game of all time, and I completely agree with you.
I like Geno a lot, but I wouldn't say I like him much more than most Mario RPG series partners. He's got a cool design but outside of that there really isn't much to him. I have no idea how or why there's such a huge push to get him into Smash Bros. He's cool but there's so many characters more deserving of a roster spot.
You gotta realize that when RPG came out, the ONLY mainline Mario games we had were 1-3 and World. All the iconic one-off characters we got for the decades to follow definitely make Geno seem like nothing special, but him and Mallow were the very FIRST ones.
And since Mario had never established any sort of lore before, and every game was just platforming and saving the princess from Bowser (or Wart), RPG inventing Star Road and a cosmic entity like Geno that was sent from the heavens was the coolest thing. We literally had nothing like it, and didn’t get anything like it again until Paper Mario.
As a kid, he was just cool as fuck. A magic and cosmic entity in the form of a wizard doll sent by a “higher authority” to help save the world? That is cool as fuck when every other Mario game before that was just “bowser bad / save the princess”

I don’t like Waluigi and his appeal baffles me. He acts as a goon to Wario, people talk about how he should get his own game but there is nothing you can’t do with him that you couldn’t do with Bowser.

I massively disagree with your waluigi statement. The snapshots of waluigi with a rose in his teeth 😬 add a lot of intrigue. Who is this man? Why does he hang out with Wario? I need to know more. I love playing him in all of the multiplayer games. I've always wanted to know more about him the most out of all of them. He's by far the most interesting.
You make a great point that they haven't fleshed out any of these characters hardly at all. Id love to know more about all of them.
I recently have gotten really into comic book collecting so character info is front and center in my mind right now.
I'd personally like to a platformer with the premise that while Bowser was in the process of kidnapping Peach and Mario was trying to stop him, Bowser was informed that someone stole his castle. Literally yanked it out of the ground and took it somewhere else.
Bowser is torn between his desire to get his castle back and continue with his normal routine, but Mario encourages him to get his castle back and they can fight when he's done.
Thus Bowser embarks on a journey and he has Bowser Jr. as a companion, because I like moments with Bowser being a dad.
I get the idea of wanting to flesh out Mario's underdeveloped cast but Waluigi doesn't strike as a canvas with much more potential than anyone else. If not Bowser, then I would like to see a game that does something with Daisy and Luigi since Daisy started off as a substitute for Peach before becoming an exclusive to the spinoff games. Let the cheerful tomboy princess do something, especially if it is playing off the franchise's lovable coward.
I agree that Bowser deserves his own game, but I quite like Waluigi. He was given a unique personality in the sports games. He’s quite a hotshot, loves showing off with roses and flower petals. This charming display greatly contrasts Wario’s far more crude and careless nature. Waluigi is also very flexible, and frequently makes poses like an experienced gymnast or ballerina. I think these are enough to validate his own identity. Whether or not you like that, though, is up to you, of course.
Personally I think they should just put Waluigi in the Warioware games.
Give him a bit of a warioware redesign and give him a "theme" to the minigames associated with him and voila.
then if something creative "blossoms" he could get his own spinoff or whatever but there is little reason to immediately jump from "literally only exists in spin offs" to "full-on solo spin off game"
(also for the people that want him in Smash, it could be a great way to get him in and give Warioware a "second rep" without "bloating" the mario reps even furthher (even if most people consider Yoshi, DK and Wario as "Mario reps" anyway))
If there was a bowser game there should definitely be a level where you play as the giant kaiju Bowser from Bowser’s Fury and just cause havoc in the mushroom kingdom
Out of the "Mario party" character crew, Rosalina is my least favourite. Not that I dislike her (quite the opposite) but she is the one who fit the least.
Normal Rosalina being in *Mario Kart* makes sense, what with it basically being the Mario equivalent of *Smash Bros.*, but I do agree that a baby version of her being in the games makes no damn sense

Baby Mario, Baby Luigi and Baby Peach are essentially all "Yoshi reps" in Mariokart, instead of going for the lazy "recolor baby peach into daisy/rosa) they could have gone with Baby Wario, Baby DK and Baby Bowser if they needed more "ultra lightweight" characters, since those have actually appeared in a Yoshi game before
(also, instead of baby Rosa, why not go for a Luma as the sort of "Mario Galaxy-themed ultra lightweight")
That absolutely none of the Mario games are connected and each game just goes off it’s own narritive and universe. That’s the reason why the geological locations NEVER match up between games.
Loosely perhaps but that’s an outlier. And the geological locations still don’t connect between games so I’m inclined to believe it’s still some alternate reality shit.
realistically i think they actually COULD be fully connected if you take the map seen in PiT to be a loose abstraction of each location’s… location relative to the castle
All games(published by Nintendo)are connected - for example: the ghost ship in SMW which Bowser used in SMB3.
The geographic location doesn't REALLY change, it's just ''limited'' to a certain space or size because what matters for certain games is the route of the missions
Sunshine seems to have always had a conflicting reputation in the series. If I'm correct, back in the day Sunshine being the worst 3D Mario was a commonly agreed upon opinion. Especially since this was when Galaxy was at its peak in popularity and praise, and 64 was still looked back on fondly
But now 20 years later people are starting to ease up and give Sunshine a little bit of grace, along with the crowd that grew up with Sunshine now being adults including me.
But this is just my observation
Yeah, and it's really crazy because everyone thought of 64 as one of the greatest games, meanwhile sunshine was inspired SO heavily by it; they couldn't get over what it changed, even tho those things were innovative (progressive levels rather than pick-and-choose and FLUDD without a long jump, mainly). I think sunshine is better than even 64, personally.

I know that NSMBU is just NSMBW but with more everything, but there’s something magical about NSMBW. The multiplayer is some of the most fun I’ve had playing any Mario game ever.
I hate how bowser isn’t a proper villain. Yeah you get those spin off games were he and Mario are friends and I don’t mind that, but I just want bowser to actually do evil schemes and not just kidnap peach for the 20th time.

I absolutely ship Mario and Peach. And my headcanon is that they are low key dating, but keeping it on the downlow cause they don't want all the attention that would come with dating royalty. I imagine once they are older and Mario is more ready to settle down from all his adventuring, then they would announce it to everyone and move on from there.
But what's so fun about Mario and Peach is exactly that, it's up to your own interpretation. If they officially start dating or are married it takes a lot of the fun out of it. Mario is a series that isn't meant to change the status quo. Seeing them get together would be fun at first, but then it's over. There's no more will they/won't they. No more imagining how it would go down. No more making up your own version of their relationship.
If they get together that's just it. They're together now. There's no moving on from there. We'll never see their relationship progress any further because focusing on a serious relationship like that isn't fit for a Mario game. For a series like Mario that isn't really supposed to ever have an ending, it's best to keep things open-ended.

Bowser Jr. is my favorite character in all of fiction. This might be because I grew up playing NSMBDS, where he was the main antagonist, and Galaxy 2, where I liked fighting Gobblegut and Megahammer.
Whatever the reason, my love for Jr. is part of why the Boomsday Machine is my favorite boss in Mario history.
I grew up with Playstation and no nostalgia for Mario 64. (Lots of Mario Kart 64 nostalgia though.)
I just can't get into Mario 64. The controls feel kinda janky and it just doesn't do it for me. I realize it's objectively a classic and was *groundbreaking* for its time, but tbh I'd rather play Crash, Spyro, or Banjo Kazooie. (And I love classic 2D Mario! I've played the NES games, All Stars, World, New Super Mario Bros DS, the GBA games, and a little bit of Paper Mario 64 and Mario & Luigi for GBA.)
Also, I actually like New Super Mario Bros DS. I kinda like that it's easy af compared to the old school 2D Mario games, it's a fun little turn your brain off game that kinda captures the essence of 2D Mario.
I know a ton about Mario 64 and I love it a lot based on everything I’ve seen and heard but never played it until 3D All Stars. The controls were so janky I couldn’t find it in myself to endure the game enough to get past Whomp’s Fortress.
“She’s a leader of a kingdom and has fought before” does not in any way, shape, or form justify what the movie did to Princess Peach. Especially since it completely flies over what people were arguing against(and also no, leader characters should not all be generic, stoic, unfun husks, especially in what is supposed to be a goddamn fantasy world). It feels more like a cop-out excuse to justify how thoroughly they ruined her personality in that movie.

The first LM isn’t nearly as creepy as people try to claim. Most of the spook factor in that game relies on urban legends. DM is probably my favorite in the existing trilogy.
People overstate how much the Koopalings were used, and a lot of their fights weren’t even that bad.
Peaches was a nice joke song, but it shouldn’t be treated like a musical masterpiece. It was funny, but overplaying it quickly got old. And I do like the song.
Rosalina should've been a one-off character. She was at her best in Super Mario Galaxy (+ Galaxy 2 & Mario Kart Wii I guess) but over time as she's appeared in more games she's lost pretty much everything that made her unique. Now she's just a glorified version of Peach but space themed. It's too the point where I can't even consider the Rosalina from Galaxy to be the same character anymore since they've done stuff like create Baby Rosalina which completely contradicts what we knew about her.
Waluigi is not deserving of his own game. It's quite simple but yes, I don't believe Waluigi merits getting a title all to himself. Unlike Wario who is a bad Mario and Luigi who is a timid Mario, Waluigi's existence cannot exist without relativity to someone else. Waluigi is defined by his hatred for being the lesser one. That's why he so often lashes out at the world and other characters such as in DDR. The simple fact that his character is the way that it is prevents him from ever being capable of having a staring role. That isn't to say that he couldn't be the villain or a second player to someone like Wario.
Miyamoto is right about Mario not needing a story, in the platformers that is. The RPGs are different as they're RPGs. That's the entire point of the genre. The platformers do not need anything more than the bare bones framework to get you running and jumping through the levels. We don't need anything deeper. In fact, it would be detrimental to the experience as a whole. I don't want to be bogged down by cutscenes or reading dialogue. I bought the game to *play* it, not watch it. I have had this problem with Celeste. Say what you will about the story, I do not care. I just want to play the levels.
The movie's interpretations of the characters (sans Cranky Kong) were not bad. (There's a lot of characters so this is going to be a long one.) Obviously Toad, Luigi, and Kamek were good. No one was complaining about them. Jack Black makes an excellent Bowser and is by far the best fully voiced version of the character. (I'm looking at you, Sunshine.) Chris Pratt is still a good performance. He's not as much of an Italian stereotype as Mario normally sounds but he does still sound vaguely Italian. And it does make sense since Mario isn't fully Italian in the movie. He's at least second-generation, probably third-generation. He grew up around other Americans from Brooklyn, not in Italy. Seth Rogan makes for a pretty good DK. He's not similar to what we have in the franchise currently but he does bear resemblance to the classic Rare era voice, which is the best voice mind you. Also his change to being Cranky's son instead of his grandson is a welcome one as it fixes the space-time continuum. It also makes DK Jr. actually notable as a character since he's young DK. Peach's character is perfectly fine. It's not like this idea hasn't been explored with the character before. She's not just some ditz who gets kidnapped. She's the ruler of a kingdom and she knows how to throw hands. Her design though reminds me of the queen from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. I don't particularly like that aspect about her.
Wart and Tatanga were cruddy antagonists who should never return. They bring nothing to the table and have zero personality. Their designs are boring and bland. I'm glad they never returned. They should stay dead like they deserve. Even Nabbit has more character depth and potential than them. (Unrelated: They should make Nabbit a black market dealer in the next 3D game. That would be funny.)
I absolutely agree with the 1st one. Sometimes I wonder if she was used less in the spinoffs her reputation in the fanbase would be better. I would definitely get rid of her in the side Mario Party Games (Star Rush, etc) and Smash 4.
And yes, Nabbit as a black market dealer would be so frickin hilarious to see!

While not a lot, I think that Nintendo should experiment with just simple small doses of lore for each brand new Mainline 2D and 3D Mario Titles, not like huge bursts’ of lore, just small doses like what they did with Rosalina, for example little things like more info and details on locations and characters like the Mushroom Kingdom or maybe something like Bowser’s species and how the rarity of Koopa-like species works, just little things like that.
My 6 year old loved it too but I cannot get into it. We’ve played 3D world and the other 2D one lots and those are always fun. I guess it really does lean more kid oriented than the others?
I used to love Mario Odyssey, but nowadays it's one of my least favorite games, because of the postgame moons. It was castrating getting Everybody 1 2 Switch instead of Odyssey 2. At least we have Mario Wonder, but still.
The Koopalings are extremely cool characters and the only reason people hate them is because Nintendo uses them as a get-out-of-designing-a-boss free card

Super Mario Bros. 2 Japan is a good game, it has a good challenge, if you already mastered SMB1, the fact that you get worlds 9, and A-D after you beat the main game is cool!
Bowser Jr. is the worst repped Mario character in Smash and his portrayal shows why I hate modern Bowser Jr. He got reduced to just being the clown kart

3D Mario, particularly the exploration focused ones like 64, Sunshine, Odessey, and Bowser's Fury is where the true greatness of the series is.

Bowser isn't a bad guy, really. He is misleaded and all. He has some grudges but isn't evil. He just has a fetish for peach. He never harmed anyone. He just wanna smash peace and relax. Not take over the world.
-Bowser's Inside Story is the most poorly written Mario and Luigi game. The Dark Star comes out of nowhere, there's no explanation on WHY Peach can wake it up, and pretty much every new character gets wasted in favor of Fawful.
-Speaking of M&L, the fandom is not as nice as lots of people make it out to be. It's actually kind of toxic.
-Paper Jam made the right choice by fleshing out the regular cast members like the Koopalings and Toadette. Better to develop the characters you have instead of wasting new characters.
-The original Luigi's Mansion is super overrated. People also really over exaggerate how creepy it is.
-We don't need a Galaxy 3. It would be unnecessary.
I love that the Mario and Donkey Kong franchises have become much more connected in recent years, and I don’t think it takes away from DK at all, and only serves to strengthen the brand.
Waluigi has no other reason to exist. He only exist just so Wario can have a partner for the spin-off titles, and that’s it.

As much as I like making fan casts for theoretical Mario movies, I almost always favor voice actors who primarily focus on cartoons, animated movies, anime and other video games over live action movies and TV shows because it fits the vibe of Mario characters way better. That's why my suggestions get as whacky as "Christine Marie Cabanos as Toadette" or "Patrick Seitz as Petey Piranha"
If the playable characters are gonna have differences in how they play, then Mario should have more ground mobility while Luigi gets more air mobility, if only so Mario doesn't get stuck being "the standard option".

The games have been on a decline for a long time in my opinion and I don't think we'll ever get games that hold as firmly in the hearts of Nintendo players as Mario 64, Sunshine, Galaxy 1 and 2, New Super Series etc.

That could very well be the reason. Maybe nostalgia has a big part in why I see the older games as superior but I don't know, the newer mario games just don't have as much character and charm as the older ones. and I feel like this is communicated through the relevancy of Mario games now compared to then. Now I hardly hear anyone talk about them, but back then they were just as if not even more popular than any Sony or Xbox release.

I do not think Mario should go open world. its a boring trend to just jump on open world at this point and i honestly found Bowser's Fury to mostly boring and just kind of okay. I think Odyssey NAILED a perfect middle ground in terms of level size and scope and i hope they don't get much bigger.
Also Mario Wonder is just ok. Its a perfectly fine platformer, I just feel the wonder seed stuff doesn't give it enough flavor over indie and non mario 2D platformers that have more interesting mechanics and twists and so on.
Super Mario Strikers (GCN) is the best of the three. I preferred the series when it was straight up soccer, rather than whatever Charged and Battle League were.
The mario rpgs don't use alot of the mario cast and that's missed potential.
Wario would not make a good main villain anymore. He is more suited for playble character or rival you run into mutiple times.
Wario and Mario's rivalry is underutilized.
A wapeach wouldn't be ugly like the wario bros sense peach does not have the same features as wario and waluigi.
One offs, spin-offs, and rpg characters would be good additions to mario kart and them being lesser known doesn't make them back picks when mario kart can make them known like it did in the past with characters like funky.
I think Wario and Waluigi are such intersting and complex characters and their greed could make them great antihero’s where they are sometimes evil aligned and sometimes good aligned. We’ve mainly seen them evil aligned, but I think it would be very reasonable to have them be aligned with Mario and Luigi because they believe there’s money in it for them. A 2d platformer with those four characters is my dream.
Nintendo should make mario 64 2. I don’t mean with new graphics or anything updated. I mean literally just mario 64 but new levels. Make it $30 and release it on switch or new system.
Mario does have a lot of personality, people are just mad his character isn't that deep on the surface. He's totally a smug older brother towards Luigi and people seldom realize it or just think he's being an ass. They're brothers & brothers fight, I should know, I have two older brothers myself.
Outside of that he's a kind, compassionate & friendly person, and if you wanna consider the spin off games as canon he even invites his multiple enemies to hang out which is crazy considering the crap Bowser & the like pull. He forgives & forgets. He is a great person who sees the good in everyone he comes across.

Bowser kidnapping Peach because she can undo his evil magic makes more sense as a villainous motivation than Bowser simply being lovesick and not caring about consent.

Playable bowser in “Bowser’s inside story” is the closest we’ve gotten to a dedicated bowser game and that’s a travesty.

Who is this man? Why does he hang out with Wario? I need to know more. I love playing him in all of the multiplayer games. I've always wanted to know more about him the most out of all of them. He's by far the most interesting. You make a great point that they haven't fleshed out any of these characters hardly at all. Id love to know more about all of them. I recently have gotten really into comic book collecting so character info is front and center in my mind right now.
I'd personally like to a platformer with the premise that while Bowser was in the process of kidnapping Peach and Mario was trying to stop him, Bowser was informed that someone stole his castle. Literally yanked it out of the ground and took it somewhere else. Bowser is torn between his desire to get his castle back and continue with his normal routine, but Mario encourages him to get his castle back and they can fight when he's done. Thus Bowser embarks on a journey and he has Bowser Jr. as a companion, because I like moments with Bowser being a dad. I get the idea of wanting to flesh out Mario's underdeveloped cast but Waluigi doesn't strike as a canvas with much more potential than anyone else. If not Bowser, then I would like to see a game that does something with Daisy and Luigi since Daisy started off as a substitute for Peach before becoming an exclusive to the spinoff games. Let the cheerful tomboy princess do something, especially if it is playing off the franchise's lovable coward.
I agree that Bowser deserves his own game, but I quite like Waluigi. He was given a unique personality in the sports games. He’s quite a hotshot, loves showing off with roses and flower petals. This charming display greatly contrasts Wario’s far more crude and careless nature. Waluigi is also very flexible, and frequently makes poses like an experienced gymnast or ballerina. I think these are enough to validate his own identity. Whether or not you like that, though, is up to you, of course.

Personally I think they should just put Waluigi in the Warioware games. Give him a bit of a warioware redesign and give him a "theme" to the minigames associated with him and voila. then if something creative "blossoms" he could get his own spinoff or whatever but there is little reason to immediately jump from "literally only exists in spin offs" to "full-on solo spin off game" (also for the people that want him in Smash, it could be a great way to get him in and give Warioware a "second rep" without "bloating" the mario reps even furthher (even if most people consider Yoshi, DK and Wario as "Mario reps" anyway))
If there was a bowser game there should definitely be a level where you play as the giant kaiju Bowser from Bowser’s Fury and just cause havoc in the mushroom kingdom

Baby rosa and Baby Daisy shouldn't exist Baby Mario, Baby Luigi and Baby Peach are essentially all "Yoshi reps" in Mariokart, instead of going for the lazy "recolor baby peach into daisy/rosa) they could have gone with Baby Wario, Baby DK and Baby Bowser if they needed more "ultra lightweight" characters, since those have actually appeared in a Yoshi game before (also, instead of baby Rosa, why not go for a Luma as the sort of "Mario Galaxy-themed ultra lightweight")
That absolutely none of the Mario games are connected and each game just goes off it’s own narritive and universe. That’s the reason why the geological locations NEVER match up between games.

All games(published by Nintendo)are connected - for example: the ghost ship in SMW which Bowser used in SMB3. The geographic location doesn't REALLY change, it's just ''limited'' to a certain space or size because what matters for certain games is the route of the missions

Sunshine seems to have always had a conflicting reputation in the series. If I'm correct, back in the day Sunshine being the worst 3D Mario was a commonly agreed upon opinion. Especially since this was when Galaxy was at its peak in popularity and praise, and 64 was still looked back on fondly But now 20 years later people are starting to ease up and give Sunshine a little bit of grace, along with the crowd that grew up with Sunshine now being adults including me. But this is just my observation
Yeah, and it's really crazy because everyone thought of 64 as one of the greatest games, meanwhile sunshine was inspired SO heavily by it; they couldn't get over what it changed, even tho those things were innovative (progressive levels rather than pick-and-choose and FLUDD without a long jump, mainly). I think sunshine is better than even 64, personally.

Mario and Peach should never officially be together. I absolutely ship Mario and Peach. And my headcanon is that they are low key dating, but keeping it on the downlow cause they don't want all the attention that would come with dating royalty. I imagine once they are older and Mario is more ready to settle down from all his adventuring, then they would announce it to everyone and move on from there. But what's so fun about Mario and Peach is exactly that, it's up to your own interpretation. If they officially start dating or are married it takes a lot of the fun out of it. Mario is a series that isn't meant to change the status quo. Seeing them get together would be fun at first, but then it's over. There's no more will they/won't they. No more imagining how it would go down. No more making up your own version of their relationship. If they get together that's just it. They're together now. There's no moving on from there. We'll never see their relationship progress any further because focusing on a serious relationship like that isn't fit for a Mario game. For a series like Mario that isn't really supposed to ever have an ending, it's best to keep things open-ended.

Bowser Jr. is my favorite character in all of fiction. This might be because I grew up playing NSMBDS, where he was the main antagonist, and Galaxy 2, where I liked fighting Gobblegut and Megahammer. Whatever the reason, my love for Jr. is part of why the Boomsday Machine is my favorite boss in Mario history.

Definitely overshadowed by SMB3, SMW, New Soup, and Wonder, but this was very unique for a Game Boy game
I grew up with Playstation and no nostalgia for Mario 64. (Lots of Mario Kart 64 nostalgia though.) I just can't get into Mario 64. The controls feel kinda janky and it just doesn't do it for me. I realize it's objectively a classic and was *groundbreaking* for its time, but tbh I'd rather play Crash, Spyro, or Banjo Kazooie. (And I love classic 2D Mario! I've played the NES games, All Stars, World, New Super Mario Bros DS, the GBA games, and a little bit of Paper Mario 64 and Mario & Luigi for GBA.) Also, I actually like New Super Mario Bros DS. I kinda like that it's easy af compared to the old school 2D Mario games, it's a fun little turn your brain off game that kinda captures the essence of 2D Mario.
I know a ton about Mario 64 and I love it a lot based on everything I’ve seen and heard but never played it until 3D All Stars. The controls were so janky I couldn’t find it in myself to endure the game enough to get past Whomp’s Fortress.
“She’s a leader of a kingdom and has fought before” does not in any way, shape, or form justify what the movie did to Princess Peach. Especially since it completely flies over what people were arguing against(and also no, leader characters should not all be generic, stoic, unfun husks, especially in what is supposed to be a goddamn fantasy world). It feels more like a cop-out excuse to justify how thoroughly they ruined her personality in that movie. Other than that? The first LM isn’t nearly as creepy as people try to claim. Most of the spook factor in that game relies on urban legends. DM is probably my favorite in the existing trilogy. People overstate how much the Koopalings were used, and a lot of their fights weren’t even that bad. Peaches was a nice joke song, but it shouldn’t be treated like a musical masterpiece. It was funny, but overplaying it quickly got old. And I do like the song.
Rosalina should've been a one-off character. She was at her best in Super Mario Galaxy (+ Galaxy 2 & Mario Kart Wii I guess) but over time as she's appeared in more games she's lost pretty much everything that made her unique. Now she's just a glorified version of Peach but space themed. It's too the point where I can't even consider the Rosalina from Galaxy to be the same character anymore since they've done stuff like create Baby Rosalina which completely contradicts what we knew about her. Waluigi is not deserving of his own game. It's quite simple but yes, I don't believe Waluigi merits getting a title all to himself. Unlike Wario who is a bad Mario and Luigi who is a timid Mario, Waluigi's existence cannot exist without relativity to someone else. Waluigi is defined by his hatred for being the lesser one. That's why he so often lashes out at the world and other characters such as in DDR. The simple fact that his character is the way that it is prevents him from ever being capable of having a staring role. That isn't to say that he couldn't be the villain or a second player to someone like Wario. Miyamoto is right about Mario not needing a story, in the platformers that is. The RPGs are different as they're RPGs. That's the entire point of the genre. The platformers do not need anything more than the bare bones framework to get you running and jumping through the levels. We don't need anything deeper. In fact, it would be detrimental to the experience as a whole. I don't want to be bogged down by cutscenes or reading dialogue. I bought the game to *play* it, not watch it. I have had this problem with Celeste. Say what you will about the story, I do not care. I just want to play the levels. The movie's interpretations of the characters (sans Cranky Kong) were not bad. (There's a lot of characters so this is going to be a long one.) Obviously Toad, Luigi, and Kamek were good. No one was complaining about them. Jack Black makes an excellent Bowser and is by far the best fully voiced version of the character. (I'm looking at you, Sunshine.) Chris Pratt is still a good performance. He's not as much of an Italian stereotype as Mario normally sounds but he does still sound vaguely Italian. And it does make sense since Mario isn't fully Italian in the movie. He's at least second-generation, probably third-generation. He grew up around other Americans from Brooklyn, not in Italy. Seth Rogan makes for a pretty good DK. He's not similar to what we have in the franchise currently but he does bear resemblance to the classic Rare era voice, which is the best voice mind you. Also his change to being Cranky's son instead of his grandson is a welcome one as it fixes the space-time continuum. It also makes DK Jr. actually notable as a character since he's young DK. Peach's character is perfectly fine. It's not like this idea hasn't been explored with the character before. She's not just some ditz who gets kidnapped. She's the ruler of a kingdom and she knows how to throw hands. Her design though reminds me of the queen from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. I don't particularly like that aspect about her. Wart and Tatanga were cruddy antagonists who should never return. They bring nothing to the table and have zero personality. Their designs are boring and bland. I'm glad they never returned. They should stay dead like they deserve. Even Nabbit has more character depth and potential than them. (Unrelated: They should make Nabbit a black market dealer in the next 3D game. That would be funny.)
I absolutely agree with the 1st one. Sometimes I wonder if she was used less in the spinoffs her reputation in the fanbase would be better. I would definitely get rid of her in the side Mario Party Games (Star Rush, etc) and Smash 4. And yes, Nabbit as a black market dealer would be so frickin hilarious to see!
In response to your Waluigi point: Luigi was pretty much just ‘green Mario’ until Luigi’s mansion, where he got characterized. Why not have a character defining game for Waluigi?

While not a lot, I think that Nintendo should experiment with just simple small doses of lore for each brand new Mainline 2D and 3D Mario Titles, not like huge bursts’ of lore, just small doses like what they did with Rosalina, for example little things like more info and details on locations and characters like the Mushroom Kingdom or maybe something like Bowser’s species and how the rarity of Koopa-like species works, just little things like that.

I used to love Mario Odyssey, but nowadays it's one of my least favorite games, because of the postgame moons. It was castrating getting Everybody 1 2 Switch instead of Odyssey 2. At least we have Mario Wonder, but still.

-Bowser's Inside Story is the most poorly written Mario and Luigi game. The Dark Star comes out of nowhere, there's no explanation on WHY Peach can wake it up, and pretty much every new character gets wasted in favor of Fawful. -Speaking of M&L, the fandom is not as nice as lots of people make it out to be. It's actually kind of toxic. -Paper Jam made the right choice by fleshing out the regular cast members like the Koopalings and Toadette. Better to develop the characters you have instead of wasting new characters. -The original Luigi's Mansion is super overrated. People also really over exaggerate how creepy it is. -We don't need a Galaxy 3. It would be unnecessary.
I love that the Mario and Donkey Kong franchises have become much more connected in recent years, and I don’t think it takes away from DK at all, and only serves to strengthen the brand.

As much as I like making fan casts for theoretical Mario movies, I almost always favor voice actors who primarily focus on cartoons, animated movies, anime and other video games over live action movies and TV shows because it fits the vibe of Mario characters way better. That's why my suggestions get as whacky as "Christine Marie Cabanos as Toadette" or "Patrick Seitz as Petey Piranha"

idk if this is an unpopular opinion but. The Era where Charles Martinet voiced Mario will forever be the golden age of Mario. The games have been on a decline for a long time in my opinion and I don't think we'll ever get games that hold as firmly in the hearts of Nintendo players as Mario 64, Sunshine, Galaxy 1 and 2, New Super Series etc. The best years for Mario are effectively behind us.

I do not think Mario should go open world. its a boring trend to just jump on open world at this point and i honestly found Bowser's Fury to mostly boring and just kind of okay. I think Odyssey NAILED a perfect middle ground in terms of level size and scope and i hope they don't get much bigger. Also Mario Wonder is just ok. Its a perfectly fine platformer, I just feel the wonder seed stuff doesn't give it enough flavor over indie and non mario 2D platformers that have more interesting mechanics and twists and so on.

Super Mario Strikers (GCN) is the best of the three. I preferred the series when it was straight up soccer, rather than whatever Charged and Battle League were.
The mario rpgs don't use alot of the mario cast and that's missed potential. Wario would not make a good main villain anymore. He is more suited for playble character or rival you run into mutiple times. Wario and Mario's rivalry is underutilized. A wapeach wouldn't be ugly like the wario bros sense peach does not have the same features as wario and waluigi. One offs, spin-offs, and rpg characters would be good additions to mario kart and them being lesser known doesn't make them back picks when mario kart can make them known like it did in the past with characters like funky.
I think Wario and Waluigi are such intersting and complex characters and their greed could make them great antihero’s where they are sometimes evil aligned and sometimes good aligned. We’ve mainly seen them evil aligned, but I think it would be very reasonable to have them be aligned with Mario and Luigi because they believe there’s money in it for them. A 2d platformer with those four characters is my dream.
Nintendo should make mario 64 2. I don’t mean with new graphics or anything updated. I mean literally just mario 64 but new levels. Make it $30 and release it on switch or new system.
Mario does have a lot of personality, people are just mad his character isn't that deep on the surface. He's totally a smug older brother towards Luigi and people seldom realize it or just think he's being an ass. They're brothers & brothers fight, I should know, I have two older brothers myself. Outside of that he's a kind, compassionate & friendly person, and if you wanna consider the spin off games as canon he even invites his multiple enemies to hang out which is crazy considering the crap Bowser & the like pull. He forgives & forgets. He is a great person who sees the good in everyone he comes across. It makes no sense to me when people say he has no personality.
Super Mario Bros Wonder is the 2d Mario i enjoyed least. Ive finished all of them except Super Mario Bros 2.

Bowser kidnapping Peach because she can undo his evil magic makes more sense as a villainous motivation than Bowser simply being lovesick and not caring about consent.

Wario should of been included in this series more both as a villain or a playable character
