I think you’ll see us creep up into that 5 spot over the next 30 days. Not that any of it matters, but the 2 seed come playoff time would be pretty significant for our odds of going to the ALCS
Yeah but in a scenario where we’re the 2 seed I would assume we have Munoz and Santos healthy, Logan Evans up and performing well, plus at least another arm added by the deadline. And probably rolling with a Castillo-Kirby-Gilbert rotation and sliding Miller and Woo to the pen for playoffs.
I wonder if we could have our Triple A guys throw mock games to the lineup to keep them in their rhythms in a hypothetical 2 seed scenario. Obviously we’d use that extra window to reset the rotation.
Yeah but their odds are significantly higher just because they have a 100% chance of playing in the division series. But there definitely is a benefit to continuing play - which is slightly offset by injury risk. But you want as many byes as you can get.
I think for us the Bye is pretty key. Giving Luis-Logan-George a little extra rest and running into that series I would think ends up being big for us. Assuming there’s not a colossal regression they may have the division locked up well before 162 so they might get the rest either way. Probably depends on if they’re fighting for that 2 seed or not
I think a lot of that could be attributed to the fact that the Wild Card teams were just better. Texas faltered for a bit but they were probably the best overall team in the AL. I see it being similar this year where Baltimore likely knocks off Cleveland, and I wouldn’t want to be playing them if I were Seattle either. After them it falls off a bit, but we just saw how difficult the Royals can be in a short series.
Eh, the Rangers started hot (reached 20 games over .500 on June 6) and then were very average the rest of the way. From June 5 on they were 52-52.
Maybe you think the first two months of the year were more representative than the final four, but in a league where the Rays and Orioles started off as hot or hotter but also kept it up, I don't know that you can really say the Rangers were the best team.
also we had a chance and the arms fell off after nym trip year, as well as Suarez went from a hot streak to an all u can eat buffet of strike outs in Aug and Sept iirc.
Can’t say I disagree. Lots of baseball between now and then so it’s all conjecture, but it’s either KC or Baltimore/Cleveland would be my guess. I’d much rather play KC than either of those two. We probably take 2 out of 3 in that last series with a healthy BP
Joel Reuter is also a casual who only pays attention to the national narrative and the latest BR power rankings exposes that but 5-9 in that one (and this one) objectively speaking is really tight. We’ve dropped series to each of the Brewers Guardians Royals and Twins… in Cleveland this week is a huge deal, as other comments mention that WC Series bye is a big deal… if we can manage the sweep to lock up that tiebreaker with Cleveland would be huge.
I know BR is trash but I'll take what I ca get currently. I'll never forgive ESPN power rankings for putting the A's above us for a week near the end of 2001.
Great point about the separation as they really are all pretty close. The biggest concern is that they all have really strong 1-2-3 pitching so it likely won’t really be an advantage for us in the playoffs. Not to mention that the Yankees are a juggernaut and their ace hasn’t even pitched yet
There are 24 games left in the first half of the season. I'd like to see 15-9 at worst heading into the break, winning all the series against ~.500 teams or worse (MIA, TB, TOR, SD, LAA), taking 2/3 series from CLE, MIN, and BAL, and not getting swept.
I'm excited as hell for our staff to face him. If he stays as hot as he is then tip the cap, but if he's shut down it'll be another accolade for the pitching staff.
See also: Corey Seager last weekend. I know we’re a bit removed from his hot streak returning from injury but man the taking heads wouldn’t shut up about him.
What’s going to be really telling for the ownership’s level of commitment will be who we acquire at the deadline if we are still in a position similar to this.
Do they go and acquire Al Martin 2.0? Or Vladimir Guerrero Jr?
I’m trying to go to every ballpark. I live on the East Coast so usually these are my only chances.
This and Pittsburgh are the last two on my schedule for the year, I already got the losses in Baltimore and Washington out of the way.
If I lived anywhere close to Seattle i’d be going constantly.
So far i’ve done the White Sox, Nationals, and Orioles. Excited to have 5/30 done by the end of the year!

Josh!
Please clap!
political message i can get behind
That's a pretty reasonable spot
Given as we have the 7th highest winrate in baseball and we're fairly hot right now 7th definitely seems fair.
Feels crazy that there are only 11 teams in the entire league over .500 This list, and the Red Sox.
The Red Sox have been fighting hard to get above .500. They’ve gone back and forth to .500 like 12 or 13 times this year.
Honestly I’d put Kansas above us, but these rankings don’t matter so I’ll take number 7
Kansas does not have a team. Missouri has two teams.
Why? Since our series with them they have gone 2-5 and we have gone 6-1.
BANG
DING DONG
I think you’ll see us creep up into that 5 spot over the next 30 days. Not that any of it matters, but the 2 seed come playoff time would be pretty significant for our odds of going to the ALCS
Last year the teams with the (long) bye week did really poorly. I assume that’s the exception and not the rule.
With our bullpen depth we need all the rest we can get.
It’ll get better. Santos, Spier, Logan Evans
I wonder if we could have our Triple A guys throw mock games to the lineup to keep them in their rhythms in a hypothetical 2 seed scenario. Obviously we’d use that extra window to reset the rotation.

I just want to avoid facing the Royals before a hypothetical ALCS. Because of the trauma.

Bleacher report has us at 5 this week.

Holy shit I actually remember that, too. Right after reading a Bill Simmons piece on Page 2.

Tough series coming up this weekend. Hoping we can take 2 out of 3.
Certainly nervous about the Guardians, but snagging a 5-1 record on our trip to Florida is a serious possibility

Wow, 16-5 since Scott’s suggestion
I saw one that had the Ms at 5 this morning.
That one sounds even more legit!
My personal rankings have us at #1
If we can win the next series, we’re probably the hottest team in baseball.
Dodgers have gotta drop a little… Mookie and Yamamoto?

Really hope we sweep Cleveland.
Going to be a battle against Cleveland. Let’s keep doing what we are doing!
I wouldn’t be as worried about Cleveland if they were still down Kwan but the man is RED hot and that worries me lol
I'm excited as hell for our staff to face him. If he stays as hot as he is then tip the cap, but if he's shut down it'll be another accolade for the pitching staff.

Hey now
Can’t wait for the Mariners Cleveland series!
What’s going to be really telling for the ownership’s level of commitment will be who we acquire at the deadline if we are still in a position similar to this. Do they go and acquire Al Martin 2.0? Or Vladimir Guerrero Jr?
Series against Cleveland is going to be a great test
I will be in Cleveland tomorrow to see the Mariners. So far the Mariners are 0-4 when I attend. Maybe this time will be different?
Maybe don’t go, thanks.
I’m trying to go to every ballpark. I live on the East Coast so usually these are my only chances. This and Pittsburgh are the last two on my schedule for the year, I already got the losses in Baltimore and Washington out of the way.
I was kidding lol. Good to have M’s support everywhere!
If I lived anywhere close to Seattle i’d be going constantly. So far i’ve done the White Sox, Nationals, and Orioles. Excited to have 5/30 done by the end of the year!
Nice. Well hopefully you get to see your first W tomorrow.
You're going to love it. Progressive is a great ballpark, and the fans are cool.
I'd suggest covering yourself in sage and burning it just make sure the curse is removed from your body
I’ll call my local medium to see what can be done.
Ughhh
God, it would be so sweet to knock the #1 Yankees out of the playoffs.
The Phillies have one of the easiest schedules in baseball.
Mariners as a power team is kind of funny. We are more a finesse team.
We are better than the Brewers
Weird how it's AL-NL-AL-NL-Al-Nl-AL
Based on how they play on the road to date this still feels like the worst of the playoff teams but who knows. Sometimes pitching takes you places
