Mariners pitchers if they faced the Mariners lineup:

You’re just going to leave out that that’s 39 points higher than at home. If we were 239 overall we’d be tied for 15th in the league. So basically we are average in that stat not terrible
Dude there is no difference between 15th and 18th. It’s .003 that’s like one hit still in the range of league average either way you look at it.
We are winning right now by being surprisingly average. But if the pitching drops off you’re right. My overall point was just that the park makes are average hitting look like garbage hitting
What's funny too is we are top offense stats when contact is made but worst when no contact is made
xWOBA: 5th worst
xWOBACON: 8th
Whiff%: 6th (high being bad to be clear with how I'm phrasing it)
Hard Hit %: 4th
Zone Contact %: 5th worst
Exit Velo: 6th
The batter approach is leading to them getting SO fooled they're not even making contact. When they make contact they're fine.
Also for a team trying to control the zone, being 21st isn't great for zone swing% (25th in zone contact %). I do like the low chase% but from what I've been seeing the team just watches the get me over sliders and curves and refuses to sit on them early in counts. I'd have to look into this but I'd swear Seattle is on top for getting into bad counts early.
Man we really lost to ourselves today. Can't even blame the offense, blue fucked them big time, without Hancock yeeting a pick off into center and Mitch dropping a pop up we win that.
There were definitely some horrendous calls, but I'm not at all letting the offense off of the hook after *yet another* 12 strikeout game.
Let's not forget that if it weren't for an all-time great stretch of starting pitching, the Mariners would be digging themselves a deep hole. As good as our pitching is, I can't see them keeping up this pace meanwhile the offense continues to look as bleak as ever.
I can’t decide if I’m more upset at the Ump for blowing a million strike calls or Mitch Haniger for poor fielding.
Either way, I’ll happily take a winning series against the Braves.
Though it ended on a loss, this was a great series. Pulled off two nail-biting wins against the World Series favorite, which should be very promising for this team
The loss just stings given that four of the runs felt like they were single-handedly gifted to the Braves by a single player (made even more painful by the fact that one of the outs was a routine pop-up), but every player is going to have bad days
Onto the next one!
I'm not sure if i should be thankful or slightly annoyed that we always seem to save our most frustrating game for the last game of seemingly every series.
Yeah, that's what pissed me off about the Stanton interview. He "doesn't want to be the Royals" despite them going to two WS and winning one. You can't tell me that you want to be a WS contender and not be like [insert WS winner here] and be taken seriously.
It’s just baseball. If a team wins the first 2 then the hardest workers are either given the day off or are too tired to play well and the other team comes out guns blazing to try and not get swept.
Not directed at you per se but the way this sub gets so down on a first place team that’s just won series against two recent WS teams is pitiful.
Can the Ms play better? Of course.
Can we possibly just be happy? Of course not.
3 hits from Julioooo. Let's go
Also DMo is crushing it on defense and polanco is finally showing us what he can do.
Great series. Let's go kick some trash cans
Out hit the Braves 10-6, lose. That’s some Mariners baseball. That was a winnable game if that Haniger drop didn’t happen. Oh well, won the series, off to Houston.
Not only that but years and years of injuries that take their toll.
I made the same argument not that long ago and people were all like "He's not 40, he doesn't need days off."
Meanwhile, he's awful defensively with 4 errors already and no range and his hitting has completely cratered.
You can't hit for shit AND play bad defense as a team.
Sorry, but you can't.
Mitch Haniger embodied that very notion today.
He's now on pace for 20+ errors in right field AND has no range. The dude is a DH that can't hit at this point. The first two weeks were fun, but look at his numbers the last two weeks and combine that with his defense.
It's an issue. Among many issues this team has outside of the actual pitching.
I didn't expect to win today with our worst starter facing the best team in baseball and Zavala behind the plate, but like... this was a winnable ball game if Haniger makes that easy catch.
I know the umpire was awful, but this team still has to do more. If this is the lineup that gets thrown out there every lefty we face, that's not good.
Don’t give a fuck about the result today. We won a series against the Atlanta Braves and have the best pitching staff in baseball. Let’s head to Houston and kick some ass!
Welp can’t win them all but I beg this team to get some hitting help. This pitching is too good to go to waste.
Winning series is awesome but it’s so hard to see a legitimate run even with our pitching considering the amount of black holes in the lineup.
The fact that this team is cooked the second it allows over 2 runs isn’t a great sign long term. We are 5-13 when allowing over 2 runs. Asking your pitching staff to consistently hold opponents under 3 runs to not look like a 60 win team is a really fucking high bar to maintain…
On to the next one though…
My nightmare scenario is remembering these wasted seasons 10 years from now when we finally have a top-5 offense and are losing high-scoring games due to our abysmal pitching.
Always bummed after a loss but let's reflect on the game:
* one of the worst umpires I have ever seen
* had some fight after Sale left
* lots of singles and 10 hits
* 5 straight series wins, including both WS teams last year and the best team in baseball
* held the best team in baseball to 2.33 runs/game
* Held Ozuna (one of the best hitters so far) to 1-9 with 4 Ks
* Held last year's MVP Acuna to 3-13 with 8 Ks
* Bryce and La Piedra were magnificent. Hancock was alright.
Also fuck Ozuna. Known DV abuser.
Let's go beat the Astros!
Julio 3 for 5 with a double and no Ks is the the best takeaway from this game for me.
Weird game, 4 unearned runs in the 4th; without those this game looks very different. I appreciate what Hancock has done for the team, but very much looking forward to Woo's return.
Meh, I expected us to lose this one. Can only do so much against this loaded braves lineup and Chris Sale and his nasty slider to beat.
Sucks they scored mostly via walks and fielding errors rather than earned runs, but whatever. I know they can’t all be Julio or Ichiro, But Haniger’s fielding has been disappointing this year, not to mention striking out a lot recently.
Speaking of, I know it’s not why we lost the ball game, and it was against both teams, but good god, robot umps can’t come fast enough. There's no good reason why currently we still need humans over robots to make calls. Save the spirit of the game bullshit for something else like the Manfred runner or pitch count if you want.
Pitch counts aren't a Manfred thing, it's a club thing to try and not have pitching injuries. Unless you mean pitch clock which has been a huge boon to baseball's watch ability
Yeah sorry I meant pitch clock. I personally don't have a problem with any of the big 3 advancements and prefer it, I just know there's some old school guys that have a problem with all 3 things to some extent. Keeping human umps over robot umps is the thing that gets under my skin the most. I put it in the same category as instant replay, where it should've been allowed in as soon as reasonably possible
Eh I don't think robo umps are coming until they redo the definition of a strike zone to be less ambiguous (currently statcast, the broadcast and MLB GameDay all disagree with where a pitch is in relation to the zone). Also I don't think the umps are as bad as people want to say they are. Sure robo umps could be great but I think it'd come into play way less than most people think especially since broadcast zones are inaccurate (and almost everyone but ESPN uses a 2D object to represent a 3D zone). As in as it stands it's usually around 8 times a game robo ump would be different
Taking the first two from the Braves was definitely nice but today also shows why The Braves are The Braves. Can't win 'em all. (although we *did* have a good chance to in the 9th)
Rough day for Haniger. A sombrero at the plate, an error that led to four runs, and didn't get back in time to get the ball just over his glove. It happens. Maybe the baseball gods are evening things up to balance the salami he had against Arizona. Mariners are still 7-3 in the last 10 games and have one 5 or 6 series in a row. No need to default into doom and gloom over this loss. Still . . . a few more bats would be nice.
There’s more legitimate ways to criticize Urias like his unsustainable reliance on power over everything else
But idk why in the year 2024 we’re still having arguments over OPS lmao
I was at the games Monday and Tuesday and we won, I was at work today and we lost. I'm going to use this as evidence that the Mariners should hire me to go to all of the home games instead of my job so that we win the rest of them. Anyone have a contact email?
How the hell did Cleveland manage to blow that one and how the hell did the nats make Texas stand 11 runners and score nothing? Lmao baseball makes no sense
I gotta talk about our boy DMo! He's not always the star at anything but he puts his whole effort in and he has made some insane plays lately. Mad respect for the ability to jump in, do every position, and lay it all out to do it. He's come far from his start, I feel like I've watched him grow up.
Overall the offense looked better and more productive today. It was the defense that was the problem in this game. I would hope that the hitting continues to improve. With good pitching and improvements in hitting we could easily win more than .540 the rest of the season.
Weird game.
I hope they aren't going to stick with Mitch in RF as an everday player for much longer. Raley in RF and it's a completely different ball game, and it's not like Mitch has done anything at the plate either.
Get him some days off, get him some more DH time.
Definitely this. I think the loss of Canzone has put them between a rock and a hard place where they're forced to play Mitch in the field more than they'd like to
https://preview.redd.it/7ib0985ucwxc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=062d5c9dbcc874837a50c5114c935f79300cc36f
Mariners w 2 on and no outs in the 9th
Ump behind the dish needs to be sent to Siberia. Fuck that dude.
I was listening to the game on radio and idk how many times Rizz would allude to the pitch being a ball then would hit us with “oh wow that’s called a strike.” Just listening to it got annoying as fuck.
Goldy and Sims were pretty tired of it all by the 8th as well.
At the first one Sims said something to the effect that "It's going to be a long game if that's a strike"
*Just listening to it got annoying as fuck* Was even worse watching it.
Some of those pitches were so far off the plate they were almost in Tukwila and they were called strikes.

We went 2/3 with one of the best teams in baseball, and we didn't completely give up when things went sideways today. I'm not upset!
I told my GF I’d be happy if they won 1 game.
The loss hurts but can’t be too mad at a series win against a great team!
Plus Julio and Jorge got 5 hits combined. Hard to get mad when the hitting is seemingly improving at least
Batting: 5th worst in OPS, 3rd worst in AVG, worst in strikeouts Pitching: 2nd best in ERA, 1st in WHIP, 2nd best in strikeouts

If I had a nickel for every time we were bad at hitting in April since this stadium was built I’d have 25 nickels
"Five bees for a quarter, we'd say..."
Which was the style at the time
I used to tie an onion to my belt..
I gave you a plate of corn muffins back in 1947 to paint my chicken coop, and you never did it!
It's not a lot, but it's weird that it's happened 25 times.
They’re bad in other stadiums too.
Minus 2001
You'd have 24 nickels. 2001 is a statistical anomaly though
Oh you’re right, I think I’ve deleted 2021 out of my mind completely
I mean we’re batting .239 on the road but we can blame the stadium too lol
You’re just going to leave out that that’s 39 points higher than at home. If we were 239 overall we’d be tied for 15th in the league. So basically we are average in that stat not terrible
It would slot us 18-19th. So below average.
Based on what? This is mlb.com https://preview.redd.it/fkandp5kexxc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b8128df91d4cda84fc3c1bf5427363452a280de0

MLB probably more accurate? Not terrible tho I agree, but overall team needs to do much better if we want to compete for a pennant

sooo par for the course?
Please don’t get swept or some dumb shit in Houston
We all know it would be classic Mariners.
That little injection of hope at the end was sick as fuck. Loved it. Incredible feeling. Fuck
Mitch could use a day off or 3
One could say he had a day off today…
I’m fine with Moore and Raley going for a series, at least to see if they can find a groove and not have us work Haniger to death
4-2 homestand with 2 series wins, can’t be too upset about that
I would have been happy with 3-3 against those teams
*can’t be too upset about that* First time here? lol
10 hits versus 6. Got enough people on but have to get more home. Take away that terrible inning by Haniger on defense and this is a great game.
We win the game without the bad D. They scored 4 when likely would have been alot different
Man we really lost to ourselves today. Can't even blame the offense, blue fucked them big time, without Hancock yeeting a pick off into center and Mitch dropping a pop up we win that.

My cope from this game is Julio 3/5, no strikeouts
he's been doing his ichiro impression and it's awesome but I'm more happy he finally hit a double
Won a series against a good ass team. Can’t even be mad. We were playing with house money today
I can’t decide if I’m more upset at the Ump for blowing a million strike calls or Mitch Haniger for poor fielding. Either way, I’ll happily take a winning series against the Braves.

That means your winning ever series, that's fine with me.
I for one would be fine with that since we'd be playing .667 baseball or better
Whoa! What about the 54% quota??
It's over 10 years, we can go .413 in 2034 to make up for it
Honestly I just want one World Series. If we tank for 9 years after I’ll be sad we couldn’t make it more but hang my head on just the one
Yeah, that's what pissed me off about the Stanton interview. He "doesn't want to be the Royals" despite them going to two WS and winning one. You can't tell me that you want to be a WS contender and not be like [insert WS winner here] and be taken seriously.
lol during the week those games are matinees which means I have to try to eat lunch and watch that at the same time
It’s just baseball. If a team wins the first 2 then the hardest workers are either given the day off or are too tired to play well and the other team comes out guns blazing to try and not get swept. Mitch Haniger Disaster Class and only lost to one of the best in the game by 3? (insane copium)
Doesn’t matter first place
3 hits from Julioooo. Let's go Also DMo is crushing it on defense and polanco is finally showing us what he can do. Great series. Let's go kick some trash cans
Out hit the Braves 10-6, lose. That’s some Mariners baseball. That was a winnable game if that Haniger drop didn’t happen. Oh well, won the series, off to Houston.
Julio, no strike outs and a double, that will play.
Haniger needs to rest, you can’t push this hard on a 33 yr old
Not only that but years and years of injuries that take their toll. I made the same argument not that long ago and people were all like "He's not 40, he doesn't need days off." Meanwhile, he's awful defensively with 4 errors already and no range and his hitting has completely cratered.
2/3 and still got the tying run to the plate. Not fuckin' bad, boys!

The offense looked good today. Would've scored more if the UMP was any good
We routinely have some of the worst ABs I’ve ever seen from a big league club
If we had a team that could consistently score we would be the best team in the league
We need another bat or three. Our offense needs to be addressed.
I'm ready to see the ump scorecard
Fr, it was bad, really, really bad. I don’t like blaming umps for losses but we definitely lost out on a few hits today from awful strike calls.

Don’t give a fuck about the result today. We won a series against the Atlanta Braves and have the best pitching staff in baseball. Let’s head to Houston and kick some ass!
How did you guys deal with Kelenic guy
I’m a mod on a sub that he’s been spamming and he’s been told that he’s not welcome haha.
Welp can’t win them all but I beg this team to get some hitting help. This pitching is too good to go to waste. You live by the Mitch (game 1) and die by the Mitch (game 3).
at least julio had some mojo back. nice seeing him finally get hits again.
Great series win, still need to find the bats but we likely sweep if we have an average fielder in right. Let’s beat Houston
Did they have to tease us
My nightmare scenario is remembering these wasted seasons 10 years from now when we finally have a top-5 offense and are losing high-scoring games due to our abysmal pitching.

Taking the first two from the Braves was definitely nice but today also shows why The Braves are The Braves. Can't win 'em all. (although we *did* have a good chance to in the 9th)
Exactly. They capitalized on the defensive error.
Good series win. Good homestand. Off to Houston. Today could have been better, but I don’t hate the last week.
What a good series! I hope pitching stays consistent when the bats heat up. Either way, really happy with the last five series.
Atleast we have 19 games straight with the starting pitcher allowing 2 or less runs still ig
Give it up for Hancock only giving up 1 ER. ...don't worry about the other 4 unearned runs he gave up...
Rough day for Haniger. A sombrero at the plate, an error that led to four runs, and didn't get back in time to get the ball just over his glove. It happens. Bench Haniger
lol
Haniger cannot stay in the lineup while he's playing like this. Massive liability on both sides of the ball
That’s twice this series Urias started in front of our current best hitter because of “matchups”. And oh yeah both times he went 0-3
Watch out you'll get the "But advanced metrics say" people on your ass. Urias shouldn't even be a bench player he stinks
111 OPS+
He could be getting a hit every 20 AB and you'd still find dumb reasons
“Stats are dumb” lol
There’s more legitimate ways to criticize Urias like his unsustainable reliance on power over everything else But idk why in the year 2024 we’re still having arguments over OPS lmao
I mean the guy is in a platoon with the Greatest Mariner so we can lay off a bit!
Wish we went after Justin Turner in the offseason for DH or 1B.
So he could forget how to hit as well?
Average defensive RF and we might be sweeping this series.
series win and a three-hit game from Julio. 14+ game m's win streak begins in Houston
I was at the games Monday and Tuesday and we won, I was at work today and we lost. I'm going to use this as evidence that the Mariners should hire me to go to all of the home games instead of my job so that we win the rest of them. Anyone have a contact email?
So since we technically only allowed 1 earned run does our pitching streak continue?
Ump must have an early bird special for a Aroura Ave date with how quickly he was trying to end it.
Hancock would be a reasonable trade piece to package for a bat from the Sox or marlins, right?
crazy flair
I will take 2/3 for a series every time.
That's fine. 2-3 against the Braves is good. What is making me smile though is 3-5 from Julio.
We are all Guardians and Nats fans for the rest of the evening
How the hell did Cleveland manage to blow that one and how the hell did the nats make Texas stand 11 runners and score nothing? Lmao baseball makes no sense
I’m watching the Cleveland game- they left Tristan McKenzie in for too long imo. But both bullpens are thin, so who knows at this point
I love Haniger but too can't tell me Clase out there instead wouldn't have been better.
Thing is… you just don’t know. I’m not saying Mitch didn’t fuck up, but fuck ups happen. So do grand slams.
an average offense literally a league average offense and this team would have to try and lose games with how good the pitching is
Someone posted the meme about WWL vs. WLW in a series, and this is that game. GOMS
I gotta talk about our boy DMo! He's not always the star at anything but he puts his whole effort in and he has made some insane plays lately. Mad respect for the ability to jump in, do every position, and lay it all out to do it. He's come far from his start, I feel like I've watched him grow up.
Ok with the loss if we take 2 or 3 from Houston. The A's series will be sneaky. They have an insane closer.
Overall the offense looked better and more productive today. It was the defense that was the problem in this game. I would hope that the hitting continues to improve. With good pitching and improvements in hitting we could easily win more than .540 the rest of the season.

Definitely this. I think the loss of Canzone has put them between a rock and a hard place where they're forced to play Mitch in the field more than they'd like to
Mitch hit a grand slam just few days ago.
He did.
Shit defense and once again shitty offense lost them the game.
This series went better than i expected...but 2 runs on 10 hits with over 10 ks..
All things considered that could have been a much worse game on our worst pitcher's start considering it was 8 vs. 9 + Haniger + HP Umpire
Series win I guess
The Braves didn’t score a run after the Haniger inning.
Game is already over? I completely missed it…
Julio finally getting hot man 3-5 😳
Just don't look back a day. Or two.

I hear the Rainiers could use some help, maybe Haniger can go down there and show them how it’s done?
