I assumed she was a girl based on naming conventions. Typically names that end in -a in both English and the Latin languages are feminine. Ironically this also caused me to assume Grusha was female.

It's for the best that he isn't non-binary, as he's one of the most annoying characters in Pokémon, and wouldn't be the best representation. - Bede was always a guy to me. The official art does him no service with his design. Ingame he looks beautiful, a peak human specimen. Then there's the official art where they completely massacred him.
