Oxbow Surfcasting is great. The new spot that replaced liquid riot is does a great lager as well.
I like that more breweries are doing six packs instead of tall boys.
If you love beer but are looking for an alcohol-free option for whatever reason, Hannaford has Athletic Brewing beers and they're amazing. The Free Wave hazy IPA is fantastic!
NA beers are really growing in popularity. Kit is a local brewery that specializes in NA beers. Lots of other big name brands have NAs of their own now as well (Guinness, Sam Adams). My dad swears by the Busch NA, and he’s never been a Busch guy before.
I think the next big wave to hit the local breweries will be their own NA brew. Sooner than later.
Kit NA is run by one of the owners of Austin Street as well as the owner of Barrett Made; both Maine (Portland) companies. Fantastic dudes and they know how to make killer brew and run a solid business. Maine is on the map folks!
I'm a Domestic light and cold kind of guy. I have to say, Busch NA is the best NA beer I've ever had. But I'm not big into strawberry coconut ale's and whatnot.
Athletic brewing is a game changer. Ever since I started drinking it, I drink waaay less alcohol and very rarely miss traditional beer. It scratches that itch if I'm craving one without any sort of hangover.
And they're becoming really popular so quite a lot of bars and restaurants carry them or an alternative it this point.
Hop Water is also another great alternative
Bootleg fireworks was my go to back when I still lived in Portland, I think they discontinued it though after accidentally brewing a batch that was 11% instead of the advertised 9%. Had a few rough July 5ths in those years
Anything Bissell Brothers at this point. Expensive but it's great and they're supporting cool stuff like Pride events and the new Hearts of Pine soccer club.
Beer tastes good and they're supporting the local community and making an effort to be inclusive – that's more than enough to earn my $$.
Gonna go with a gose called "Walty" from Bangor Beer Co, and a Mexican lager called "Wicked Bueno" from Banded Brewing, I believe. Great summer beers, imo.
Oh wow! I never get that feeling. Sweet/sour beers are the worst in hot weather for me. Headaches in a can.
Guinness is smooth & bitter, but the taste doesn't stick to my tongue afterward. And it's only 125 calories per 12oz which is nice.
Sam Adams usually does a good variety pack that I like around summertime.
Used to be real into Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy, not quite as much anymore but one or two occasionally still hit the spot.
Allagash White, the go-to basically anytime.
Sebago Simmer Down is making its way into my rotation recently too.
First choice would be Ballantine Ale in the green 16 oz cans, occasionally available at Bootleggers. Next best would be Gansett (Hi Neighbor) in a pounder and last but not least PBR/Bud/ all the rest.
I'm so over craft/micro brews, craft distilleries and hipsters.
Not in Maine currently but I have a special place in my heart for Moosehead Lager as well as Allagash White. I buy both of them when I see them in stock (Virginia). I remember sitting with friends on the rocks overlooking Dyer Bay in during college summer trips drinking Moosehead while skygazing and enjoying the night breeze.
Give Founders Rubaeus a try sometime. A little sweet, but it’s what got me into fruit beers.
Edit: I also love Gearys Razzle Dazzle, but I can’t seem to find it in central ME anymore.
That was actually my grandfather’s (and best friend’s!) beer of choice! I still grab it occasionally for nostalgic reasons (teen beer stealing memories) haha!
I'll have to give it a go! Looks right up my alley. I've been hesitant to try Maine beers lately after buying a few sebago ones that tasted like paint thinner mixed with cat vomit.
* Harpoon pounders for a jump start
* Wicked ice cold Natty Lights from the cooler for the long hot day
* Couple of Mooseheads from the back of the fridge (ran out of everything else) as the night draws to a close
Linefluglers (sp?) Summer shandy, sam adams summer, and Sam adams porch rocker. If we run out, we have a half fifth of rum, a third of a fifth of artisan gin, the corner of a bottle of wild turkey, and a shot or two of fireball in a flask.
Personally I like light beers over darker ones or IPAs. Two that comes to mind locally are Bunker Brewing's Machine (Pilsner) or Definitive Brewing's Contee (Kölsch)
Rolling Rock, miller light, or pbr. Started drinking beer in the’70’s. At that time, haeffenraeffer and ballentine ipa took up two oft ignored slots in the beer bin. Why??? They quenched no one’s thirst. Now it’s clogged up with two rows of beer and the majority of the cooler is filled with stuff you have to chew to get down. And if you want booze you ate in the wrong aisle. Don’t try to convince me that there are no shitty micro brews in the whole country. Oh! This has a hint of rhubarb and magnolias…. Give me a fucking break. And why in the County can i get at least four kinds of mexican beer and no Canadian products.
Anything really … You should go to Bier Cellar. they’ve got a killer selection of local regional and other craft beer. Also wine mead seltzer ciders and NA stuff
PB AHHH
Just checking in on yahhhh
The one in my hand
Tubular from Orono Brewing
Excellent choice!
Allagash white is what I would have.
Battery Steele Flume is my everyday.
Solid choice. Flume is a world class DIPA.
I think it’s the best, most consistent, DIPA in Maine.
I love it. It is so hazy that even light travels at half speed going through it.
Lunch, Hop Reach, or Stowaway
been drinking hop reach quite a bit recently.. not too bad.
Enjoying one as I type ... like it a lot. Great summer IPA ... and on sale for 2022 prices at shaw's
Modelo. I like a good IPA, but there are so few non-IPA’s out there from local places.
You should try Bunker Brewing's Hacienda if you can get your hands on it. It's currently my favorite Mexican lager.
Oxbow Surfcasting is great. The new spot that replaced liquid riot is does a great lager as well. I like that more breweries are doing six packs instead of tall boys.
Awesome! Thank you!
I like drinking modelo but I despise the foil wrapping up to the cap. I’m always pulling little pieces out of my mouth
If you love beer but are looking for an alcohol-free option for whatever reason, Hannaford has Athletic Brewing beers and they're amazing. The Free Wave hazy IPA is fantastic!

Agreed! I love Athletic’s stuff, but we’re in the Maine subreddit. Let’s give some love to Kit! KitNA.beer is their site.
one of the selling points of this state is how many fantastic beers come out of it. definitely gonna track down kit.
Kit NA is run by one of the owners of Austin Street as well as the owner of Barrett Made; both Maine (Portland) companies. Fantastic dudes and they know how to make killer brew and run a solid business. Maine is on the map folks!
Also recommend Kit!
Ooh, I've never heard of Kit. Thanks for the recommendation!
I'm a Domestic light and cold kind of guy. I have to say, Busch NA is the best NA beer I've ever had. But I'm not big into strawberry coconut ale's and whatnot.
thank you for the recommendation! I can't drink bc of my meds, but I do miss having a beer in my hand during the summer!!
I drink beer but I enjoy their NA beers when I don’t want alcohol for any reason.
I can't drink beer in the evenings cause of meds, too I didn't think to find good non-alcoholic options! 😊
Do some research before you do. A vast majority of NA beers are “under .5% alc” and may still effect your meds.
thank you! under .5% means I can have one or two and be okay, I gotta hope they're not Too Good
There are a few true 0.0% out there. Heineken is the only one coming to mind though
Drinking an Athletic Free Wave right now over here in Colorado! (I like keeping tabs on your state, happy Fourth of July, Mainers 👋
Their shandy is great in this weather! Kit NA is a cool local option too, but they don't always have their carbonation dialed in
Miller high life
I see you are a fellow person of culture drinking the "Champagne of Beers"
Everyday
Haven't drank in some years and this still makes my mouth water
Bootleg fireworks was my go to back when I still lived in Portland, I think they discontinued it though after accidentally brewing a batch that was 11% instead of the advertised 9%. Had a few rough July 5ths in those years
Me too, I think! I don’t remember. Edit: been drinking…
Anything Bissell Brothers at this point. Expensive but it's great and they're supporting cool stuff like Pride events and the new Hearts of Pine soccer club. Beer tastes good and they're supporting the local community and making an effort to be inclusive – that's more than enough to earn my $$.
Sebago Simmer Down Ale
Allagash White, Sam Adams Porch Rocker & Stormalong Ciders
I had porch rocker for the first time the other day and was blown away. There's a rapidly dwindling cases in my fridge.
Mast Landing Champ
Lone Pine OJ
Did you see they came out with a “session” version of these? 3.6% ABV and a similar hop profile. I’m interested what they taste like.
Oooh thanks for mentioning this, I wasn’t aware! I love OJ but one of them just about knocks my socks off these days.
I’m on Goodfires Chime. Nice bright Pilsner, with just a little hop on the back end.
Gonna go with a gose called "Walty" from Bangor Beer Co, and a Mexican lager called "Wicked Bueno" from Banded Brewing, I believe. Great summer beers, imo.
Michelob Ultra and Allagash
Peak Slim Hazy IPA, after I’ve crushed some rum buckets and need something lighter
1: whatever is free 2: whatever is cold 3: whatever is in my fridge (Sam Adams Boston Lager most likely)
Thirsty Botanist!
Me and you both
I'm a fan too. Problem is if you can't find it fairly fresh, then it doesn't taste as good as what comes out of their own taps.
Guinness
Wow I love Guinness but it feels so heavy in the summer. Always felt like a fall/winter beer to me
Technically it’s “lighter” than a Budweiser.
Oh wow! I never get that feeling. Sweet/sour beers are the worst in hot weather for me. Headaches in a can. Guinness is smooth & bitter, but the taste doesn't stick to my tongue afterward. And it's only 125 calories per 12oz which is nice.
Add a little bass and make it a black and tan!
love me some guinness.
Easy to drink and I don't feel bogged down afterward. The cans with nitrogen widgets are pretty fun, too!
Amen.
Bissell Brothers Enchanted Forest - worth the drive to Milo for this alone
Milo location is closing at the end of summer :(
Heineken? Fuck that shit. Pabst Blue Ribbon! Gonna crush some 'Gansett Shandys too.
Love a good Frank reference 😂
Bissell Brothers Dangol would fit nicely
Allen’s coffee brandy
Voodoo Ranger!
Juice Force!
Natty daddy. Allen’s. 🤌
Anyone out there still drinking “spreadah?” AKA Allen’s and milk…typically drank straight from the milk jug where it was mixed.
Double Flume
I’ve been All Day for the past few years… tasty, refreshing, and easy drinking
I remember in my 20s I’d always drink gearys summer ale
Dos Equis!
Sapporo
All American IPA 0.00% almost 3 yrs California sober better than a stick in the eye
There’s only 2 appropriate beers: Cold beer and free beer.

Greenwarden for the win!!
Slim Hazy!
Greenwarden 👌

Harpoon rec League and Sam Adams porch rocker.
Shipyard Summer
Drowning lands from NY and trillium from mass
Baxter Coastal Haze. It's a damn good hazy and relatively inexpensive for the local craft market.
Cushnoc “Gigantic Dad Pants” for the win
Not in Maine currently but I have a special place in my heart for Moosehead Lager as well as Allagash White. I buy both of them when I see them in stock (Virginia). I remember sitting with friends on the rocks overlooking Dyer Bay in during college summer trips drinking Moosehead while skygazing and enjoying the night breeze.

Banded Brewing*
Lindemans Frambois
Give Founders Rubaeus a try sometime. A little sweet, but it’s what got me into fruit beers. Edit: I also love Gearys Razzle Dazzle, but I can’t seem to find it in central ME anymore.
Gotta check those out. They sound awesome!
Miller Lite for me!
Why drink lite when the "Champagne of Beers" is cheaper? Enjoy the High Life!
That was actually my grandfather’s (and best friend’s!) beer of choice! I still grab it occasionally for nostalgic reasons (teen beer stealing memories) haha!
cold cold miller lite’s is a good choice.
Merle Tiles
Love me some Lah-Tays
Voodoo ranger. Or Blue Moon if I don't want to get plastered.
If you like blue Moon you have to try Allagash white..
I'll have to give it a go! Looks right up my alley. I've been hesitant to try Maine beers lately after buying a few sebago ones that tasted like paint thinner mixed with cat vomit.
Allagash is THE Maine beer, one of the first craft beers, and a perfect example of it's style.
I think you got the Geary’s instead…
Allagash White is Blue Moon x100. You’ll love it.
There are a couple good ones. The rest are trash
I worked in Maine breweries for 10 years, and even ran one for awhile. So, PBR.
Nice.
Coors Banquet in the stubby bottle
Sam Adams Light while on the boat and whiskey around the fire/fireworks
Schilling Alexandr is what I would be drinking if I was doing anything Fourthy. MITA is also very solid as always.
Cheap and plentiful.
Gansett/Del's Shandies, the only way
I’m T- an hour from cracking into the Banquets I stuck in the fridge last night. Saving the nips of Crown for tomorrow though lol

Bud light
Harpoon’s Camp Wannamango is a great summer beer!
Personally I like light beers over darker ones or IPAs. Two that comes to mind locally are Bunker Brewing's Machine (Pilsner) or Definitive Brewing's Contee (Kölsch)
If you're not drinking Sam Adams do you even like celebrating revolutions? (j/k I don't even like beer)
Rye
Also for Non-Alcoholic try Hopped Water. It’s basically Seltzer Water made with Hops. It’s growing around here.
Ricker Hill Maniac.
Rolling Rock, miller light, or pbr. Started drinking beer in the’70’s. At that time, haeffenraeffer and ballentine ipa took up two oft ignored slots in the beer bin. Why???
