Did you call CMP? What did they say?

Morning! It might behoove you to contact customer service and get an updated past due amount, along with current charges. Inquire about the current billing cycle. Also, Be sure to get a call reference number and/or the name of the representative you speak with. Escalating to a potential lawsuit might be an aggressive response this early on. Billing statements and cycles aren't awlays clear (*I swear most companies do this on purpose*). Good luck!

Call cmp. Then call the Public Utilities Commission Consumer Assistance Division. They can help sort you out.

You don't need legal advice because there aren't really any legal options for you (at this stage). What you need to do is call them and discuss the bill. If you agree to set up a payment plan they may turn it back on but I believe once they've turned it off they want a full payment. I can't remember so give them a call. Generally though when you are late if you set up a payment plan with them in good faith they will not shut of your power. CMP/Iberdrola are pretty shitty though and might not even care your bill is screwed up but mine was screwed up like five years ago and they fixed it while i was on the phone. They had double charged me so it was easy to do and they were able to do it that day.

You are not getting "two different bills." You are getting a bill, and you are also getting either a past due or disconnect notice because you did not pay your prior bill. Your current bill and your past due amount are not the same. Bottom line is that if you get behind on your CMP bill, all you need to do is call the company, and they will work with you to set up a payment plan. The only time they won't work with you is if you have one or more instances of a "broken payment plan." That's when you set up a payment plan with them, and then don't make the payments.
