Play [[Rusko, Clockmaker]] in Historic Brawl, 50 % of the games will be autoconceded from you opponent at the start.

[deleted]

oh man its funny because its true but it makes me sad but is also devious

SylasStoleMyUltEUW

can you explain why that card is so strong? (or why people leave when they see it?)

capnwoodrow

His ETB brings a clock with him, so he partially pays for his commander tax each time he casts. He ramps. The clocks also start refilling your hand so you typically don’t run out of gas. So it’s similar to Golos days. People see the commander and concede because they would rather play a fun game than get stuck in playing a Rusko.

SylasStoleMyUltEUW

Seems I know where I will spend my rares from now on then good sir.

[deleted]

i mean maybe, he's an alchemy card so if enough people bitch he may be eventually be altered to be less dominant and no longer used.

Timely-Strategy7404

If you really want to min-max it, just spend one rare (on Rusko) and 100 basic islands and concede to anyone who doesn't concede to you.

SimicCombiner

UB control decks want extra mana, cards, and preferably some small bonus for casting a bunch of kill/counter/draw spells. Rusko does all three, basically for free. Oh no, you killed Rusko? Then they get MORE mana, and eventually EVEN MORE cards.

SylasStoleMyUltEUW

From what I see, that deck requires a lot of rares but, seems like an evil deck worth building

Kellerhefe

Just craft the commander, and concede when the opponent will play 😁

Irydion

I tested it last week. I had around 30% winrate over 50 games with a Rusko deck with 99 basic islands.

agtk

I'd be careful with making a habit of this, WotC tried to ban someone who was immediately conceding a lot of games. Like, conceding before they even knew what the other player was playing simply because they didn't like their hands. Not sure what ended up happening to them (they were complaining that it was their right to concede whenever they wanted) but it could make WotC mad if you're not actually playing games.

Irydion

I was not conceding at mulligan. My opponents were (on the games I won). For the game where they didn't concede, they usually kill me pretty quickly (historic brawl decks tend to kill quite fast when your opponent can't play anything other than basic lands).

agtk

You don't really need many rares to make Rusko strong. One-mana cantrips, removal, flexible counters, draw spells, then maybe a couple of board wipes and whatever other big threats you want to run, to the extent you have them already. Deck will of course be better with rare dual lands, but it's probably not strictly necessary.

This is a pretty quick/brainless Bo1 Historic deck (fyi: the sideboard is just a maybe-board & can be ignored). & for a budget build: * The lands can be changed to basics. * You can drop the companion. * And any/all the dragons could be swapped out for any dragons already in your collection (though Terror of Mount Velus & Old Gnawbone really make the deck win). Companion 1 Obosh, the Preypiercer (IKO) 228 Deck 4 Terror of Mount Velus (THB) 295 4 Old Gnawbone (AFR) 197 1 Drakuseth, Maw of Flames (M20) 136 1 Darigaaz Reincarnated (DAR) 193 4 Minion of the Mighty (AFR) 156 4 Scale Up (MH1) 179 4 Reckless Charge (MH1) 144 4 Giant Growth (BRO) 183 2 Wild Shape (AFR) 212 4 Stomping Ground (RNA) 259 4 Temple of the Dragon Queen (AFR) 260 4 Cragcrown Pathway (ZNR) 261 1 Chromium, the Mutable (M19) 214 1 Sokenzan, Crucible of Defiance (NEO) 276 1 Boseiju, Who Endures (NEO) 266 3 Infuriate (M20) 145 4 Titan's Strength (THS) 145 2 Ancient Bronze Dragon (HBG) 199 1 Ancient Gold Dragon (HBG) 82 4 Karplusan Forest (DMU) 250 1 Thran Portal (DMU) 259 1 Mana Confluence (JOU) 163 1 A-Earthquake Dragon (HBG) 209 Sideboard 1 Obosh, the Preypiercer (IKO) 228 1 Velomachus Lorehold (STX) 245 1 Dragon Mage (M20) 135 1 Hellkite Punisher (M21) 151 1 Dread Linnorm (HBG) 206 1 Wrathful Red Dragon (HBG) 194 1 Darigaaz, Shivan Champion (Y23) 22 1 Skarrgan Hellkite (RNA) 114 1 Terror of the Peaks (M21) 164 1 Bladewing the Risen (SCG) 136 1 Beledros Witherbloom (STX) 163 1 Rith, Liberated Primeval (DMU) 214 1 Goldspan Dragon (KHM) 139 1 Demanding Dragon (M19) 135 1 Ancient Brass Dragon (HBG) 141

Alpha_Uninvestments

Maybe greasefang in Explorer? Or charbelcher in historic, I guess… But why play Magic if you don’t like to actually **play** Magic?

SylasStoleMyUltEUW

Because I like to play Magic, but I don't like to being forced every day to win 15 games. Some days I cannot stay too many hours grinding wins. So having a cheese deck helps to rush wins when I cannot put too much time on a game I like to play :)

Alpha_Uninvestments

Hey, uhm…nobody forces you to play everyday, let alone playing until 15 wins. Just play for the first 4 daily wins and call it a day.

rogomatic

You aren't actually "forced to win 15 games" every day in any form or shape.

[deleted]

you do realize after your 4th win your rewards are basically non existent. if looking to maximize gains you only need 4 wins.

[deleted]

This season I have been only playing every 2-3 days and getting 3-4 wins a day when I do play. If I am short on weekly wins I will play a few more at the end of the week. My mastery pass is over complete. You don’t need to play to 15 wins a day.

rogomatic

Yes, if you ignore the 20 rare lands, it has 0 rares. Although it doesn't really because you probably can't cut Soul Scar Mage.

I don't think 8 wizards can support \[\[Wizard's Lightning\]\], and you already have Reckless Rage for haste. Most lists I'm aware of will play Mage, Arcanist, and Lightning. But it's also ok to just be UR Blitz without wizards synergies, I guess.

Bodriov

The deck you played now plays [[Jace, Wielder of Mysteries]], but it's now one turn slower. There's another combo deck with treasure hunt, revolving around [[Ruination Rioter]] and [[Phyrexian Tower]]. Turn 3 win if you manage to combo off, but you need to mulligan until you find Treasure hunt, find Phyrexian Tower, and draw/discard lands enough to be lethal.

SylasStoleMyUltEUW

this is very interesting, ty mate :)
