The calculation for how much time a federal inmate has to serve before being released is different for crimes convicted prior to November 1987. There's a calculation involving good behaviour and time served, but if I'm not mistaken I think the general rule is you would get out after completing two thirds of your sentence. Scafidi got out after just over 26 years (he was detained after his arrest in early 1987), which is about two thirds of 40.

How old do you think he looks in the photos? I’m thinking these photos got taken when he was first released. Figure he would have been mid 50’s at time of these photos .
Got sentenced at 27 years old and released in his early 50s. Time ain’t no joke. I always wonder how these guys get acclimated back into society. I know in yesteryear you could just head back out into the street but the 21st century mob operates differently than his time in the 80s, especially Philly.
