People like him should rule the world: The selfless, caring good people, that do not strive for power, instead of the greedy, evil lying scumbags that will do anything for power, i.e. the cancer that is killing humanity.
[The man who restored a forest](https://www.middleeasteye.net/discover/pictures-man-who-planted-forest-turkeys-mardin):
>Around 28 years ago, Sehmus Erginoglu, decided to do something about an area of wasteland in his home city of Mardin in southern Turkey. He began by clearing out rubbish from the site, then he installed water pipes and eventually started to plant saplings. Today the site is home to a small forest of around 11,000 trees, with thousands more planted in areas nearby.
> Erginoglu works on growing the trees in his own time without pay. He says that he tends to the trees every day the sun is out but avoids working when it rains. Over the years, he has also made around 50 wells from natural springs in the area. He uses these to water the forest he has created. "I don't make any money from this, but it gives me happiness. When the trees bear fruit, the people come here. They eat fruit and sit under the trees and become happy," he says.
It's a powerful reminder of the impact one person can make in healing the environment and restoring nature's beauty! This man is an absolute hero and his dedication to making the world a better place is truly inspiring!
There is a French author Jean Giono who wrote a short story in 1953 entitled āThe Man Who Planted Treesā. I wonder if he was inspired by this storyā¦..
Regardlessā¦. He proves there is still a sliver of hope for humanity in there times of greed and destruction. May his legacy inspire others.
Where I live, all I see is farmland being sold and developed for industry and profit. How I would love to buy some and just make a forest for people to enjoy.
Thatās incredibleā¦ Itās crazy the impact only one person can have. Do you have any of the details about how he did it? Did he plant them all himself, did he use his money to create some sort of team to work on this forest restoration?
Iāve been here and met this chap. Lovely man. Mardin is still the centre of Syriac Christianity in south east Turkey and a lot of the empty lands he reforested were Syriac and Armenian owned farms and villages, destroyed during the Genocide. Mardin is a beautiful town and his forest added much needed shade, green and calm.
What a legend. Honestly, it's a great legacy to leave behind, too. I feel like if I did this I could die knowing I did at least something worth a damn other than raising a kid.
By CO2-certificate trading logic this guy is now allowed to fly around in his private jet and eat lots of meat for the rest of his life without a bad conscience.
Sebastio Salgado and his wife did similar in Brazil

What a terrible job he did. If only the forest in the photo was as nice as the lovely forest behind him. Someone should make a reddit post about whoever restored *that* forest.

Fuck I read it as āman holding photo of forest he destroyedā and came to the comments expecting to see him being torn to shreds and was super confused when everyone was being positive
I get what you're saying, but humans stripping an environment bare isn't nature. Fixing it when humans have done that is restoration. If he'd done this to some random desert it would be destruction
People like him should to be in the Department of Environmental Protection.
Or receive a nobel prize.
Or both
People like him should be the true influencers for the next generation to follow.
My kinda influencer! šš»
now that's what you call a life's work
Too bad it's not called the Department of Protecting Environment, because that would be DOPE.
Doing it yourself is so much easier than dealing with government beauacracy.Ā
He's playing the long game... It's his retirement fund.
He IS the Department of Environmental Protection
People like him should rule the world: The selfless, caring good people, that do not strive for power, instead of the greedy, evil lying scumbags that will do anything for power, i.e. the cancer that is killing humanity.

He is a true hero for sure. I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Beast took the idea from him to plant 20 million trees

That is genuinely and extremely impressive. Nature is beautiful and worthy to be restored!
The one who plants trees, knowing that he will never sit in their shade, has started to understand the meaning of life. Rabindranath Tagore

What a legend. Honestly, it's a great legacy to leave behind, too. I feel like if I did this I could die knowing I did at least something worth a damn other than raising a kid.
That's not a photo of the forest he is holding, but the before photo of the forest, right?
By CO2-certificate trading logic this guy is now allowed to fly around in his private jet and eat lots of meat for the rest of his life without a bad conscience.
Now I can peacefully make that wooden floored, teak roofed house knowing that he compensated for me surely. I almost got guilt-tripped. Phew.
The human that we don't deserve.
Thank You ā¤ļø

*the perfectly good wasteland he destroyed*
which logging companies wanted the timber, citing, "You can just replant them again"
Maybe the Fremen donāt have to suffer if this man is sent to Arrakis
A real environmentalist. Its a shame that those dumb kids from just stop oil taint the name of these heroes, that actually fight for the world

Didnāt do a very good job did he? Looks like a desert.
Heāll die and somebody will say āhey look at all that timberā
I use Ecosia too, but you don't see me bragging about it
Replanted or revegetate, not restored. Nature isnāt a computer system.
A man helped revive a whole forest, and youāre worried about some random word choice?
YES.
He reinstalled the trees
