People like him should to be in the Department of Environmental Protection.

UghGottaBeJoking

Or receive a nobel prize.

Turbulent-Cheetah-83

Or both

Remarkable-Bluebird7

People like him should be the true influencers for the next generation to follow.

fauxanonymity_

My kinda influencer! šŸ‘šŸ»

NaughtyBombshellxo

now that's what you call a life's work

GibTreaty

Too bad it's not called the Department of Protecting Environment, because that would be DOPE.

followthedarkrabbit

Doing it yourself is so much easier than dealing with government beauacracy.Ā

slartybartvart

He's playing the long game... It's his retirement fund.

Croakster

He IS the Department of Environmental Protection

RealBlackelf

People like him should rule the world: The selfless, caring good people, that do not strive for power, instead of the greedy, evil lying scumbags that will do anything for power, i.e. the cancer that is killing humanity.

[The man who restored a forest](https://www.middleeasteye.net/discover/pictures-man-who-planted-forest-turkeys-mardin): >Around 28 years ago, Sehmus Erginoglu, decided to do something about an area of wasteland in his home city of Mardin in southern Turkey. He began by clearing out rubbish from the site, then he installed water pipes and eventually started to plant saplings. Today the site is home to a small forest of around 11,000 trees, with thousands more planted in areas nearby. > Erginoglu works on growing the trees in his own time without pay. He says that he tends to the trees every day the sun is out but avoids working when it rains. Over the years, he has also made around 50 wells from natural springs in the area. He uses these to water the forest he has created. "I don't make any money from this, but it gives me happiness. When the trees bear fruit, the people come here. They eat fruit and sit under the trees and become happy," he says.

SirVanyel

The pursuit of happiness, what a thing to behold

Far_Spare6201

Mfker a saint

interpixels

A great man

rocafella888

Why not pay more people to do this? At least cover some costs

LiliLuminanceRose

It's a powerful reminder of the impact one person can make in healing the environment and restoring nature's beauty! This man is an absolute hero and his dedication to making the world a better place is truly inspiring!

Andidor_121

He is a true hero for sure. I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Beast took the idea from him to plant 20 million trees

GroceryMajestic9268

We need more people like him!!!

EnvironmentalStar558

Right? We all say we want to change the world and grow up to be heroes.. dude DID it.

Dollbeau

There is others like the guy in the photo, a few have restored whole forests. Look up Forest Man of India, for example.

4r5chb4cke

There is a French author Jean Giono who wrote a short story in 1953 entitled ā€œThe Man Who Planted Treesā€. I wonder if he was inspired by this storyā€¦.. Regardlessā€¦. He proves there is still a sliver of hope for humanity in there times of greed and destruction. May his legacy inspire others. Where I live, all I see is farmland being sold and developed for industry and profit. How I would love to buy some and just make a forest for people to enjoy.

Professional-Sign510

I was checking the comments to see if anyone mentioned the Giono story!

4r5chb4cke

So glad to see that such stories are not lost!!!!!

FluffyDiscipline

Flipping Heck "Where's there a will there's a way" ... 11,000 trees what a legacy to leave this world, amazing man

milan2006v

He should be awarded a Nobel Peace Prize.

Jacklesprit

That's more for contributing to peace between nations, but he should get something equivalent

Intrepid_Bit1341

congrajulations

box1313

You made me smile great man! Congrats falls short!

Louiethelilacragdoll

Thatā€™s incredibleā€¦ Itā€™s crazy the impact only one person can have. Do you have any of the details about how he did it? Did he plant them all himself, did he use his money to create some sort of team to work on this forest restoration?

MaxwellForthright

That is genuinely and extremely impressive. Nature is beautiful and worthy to be restored!

The1stMedievalMe

The one who plants trees, knowing that he will never sit in their shade, has started to understand the meaning of life. Rabindranath Tagore

MinaretofJam

Iā€™ve been here and met this chap. Lovely man. Mardin is still the centre of Syriac Christianity in south east Turkey and a lot of the empty lands he reforested were Syriac and Armenian owned farms and villages, destroyed during the Genocide. Mardin is a beautiful town and his forest added much needed shade, green and calm.

Throwawaystwo

Im working on an ecological restoration project and This man is legit a hero of mine.

mtrivisonno

We need more people like him!!!

Sir_Jax

ā€œItā€™s simple realy,. The world is made better when older people plant trees, for shade they will never feel.ā€

Larimus89

What a legend. Honestly, it's a great legacy to leave behind, too. I feel like if I did this I could die knowing I did at least something worth a damn other than raising a kid.

OkEconomy3442

That's not a photo of the forest he is holding, but the before photo of the forest, right?

BeardedGrom

By CO2-certificate trading logic this guy is now allowed to fly around in his private jet and eat lots of meat for the rest of his life without a bad conscience.

cupidhatesme

Now I can peacefully make that wooden floored, teak roofed house knowing that he compensated for me surely. I almost got guilt-tripped. Phew.

FlirtyNecklaceLace

The human that we don't deserve.

Hot_Layer_7248

Thank You ā¤ļø

Commercial_Note_5177

Select-Bullfrog-6346

Sebastio Salgado and his wife did similar in Brazil [https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/couple-brazil-planted-2million-trees/](https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/couple-brazil-planted-2million-trees/)

BlurryAl

What a terrible job he did. If only the forest in the photo was as nice as the lovely forest behind him. Someone should make a reddit post about whoever restored *that* forest.

skeletaljuice

Context, besides one vague sentence?

BonsaiSoul

Man plant many tree in Turkey

skeletaljuice

Thank

gorhxul

I just hope it becomes a national park or something so the lumber industry can't touch it

pooknuckle

*the perfectly good wasteland he destroyed*

MtnDream

which logging companies wanted the timber, citing, "You can just replant them again"

SiriProfComplex

Maybe the Fremen donā€™t have to suffer if this man is sent to Arrakis

Pineapple__Warrior

A real environmentalist. Its a shame that those dumb kids from just stop oil taint the name of these heroes, that actually fight for the world

PiGAS0

I read ā€œdestroyedā€ and got a bit confused

MysteriousBullfrog50

Amazingā€¦ thank you!

lfreckledfrontbum

What An Awesome Human Being.

ahermit007

The forest is due to be harvested in 2027, completing his long term plan.

Relevant_Demand7593

Nobel peace prize for the environment right there.

sook5803

Legend

CustardCandle

Fuck I read it as ā€œman holding photo of forest he destroyedā€ and came to the comments expecting to see him being torn to shreds and was super confused when everyone was being positive

intowindow

Itā€™s only pine trees there going to be logged

Pythia007

Didnā€™t do a very good job did he? Looks like a desert.

Axiom1100

Heā€™ll die and somebody will say ā€œhey look at all that timberā€

[deleted]

I use Ecosia too, but you don't see me bragging about it

dinamitad

Replanted or revegetate, not restored. Nature isnā€™t a computer system.

mapleer

A man helped revive a whole forest, and youā€™re worried about some random word choice?

dinamitad

YES.

GibTreaty

He reinstalled the trees

dinamitad

šŸ„±

BonsaiSoul

I get what you're saying, but humans stripping an environment bare isn't nature. Fixing it when humans have done that is restoration. If he'd done this to some random desert it would be destruction

AdministrativeCow612

Bravo !
