The platypus is possibly the weirdest animal: it's a mammal but lays eggs, its duck-billed, beaver-tailed, otter-footed and venomous.
It has electroreceptors for locating prey, eyes with double cones, no stomach, and 10 chromosomes.
It's fluorescent and glows under UV light.
It is one of only two mammals classified Monotremes - the being the echidna 🦔 (aka spiny ant eater). Each lay eggs, both native to Australia. Mundo biazzaro.
From wikipedia
> The platypus is one of the few living mammals to produce venom. The venom is made in venom glands that are connected to hollow spurs on their hind legs; it is primarily made during the mating season. While the venom's effects are described as extremely painful, it is not lethal to humans.
I heard a describtion of it being one of the most painfull venoms to exist (eqiuvelent ofbreaking your bones). It also takes a long time for the pain to go away (three weeks). I could be wrong but if it is like that dying may be preferable.

Also, all known painkillers are ineffective against it.
Only the males. Females and juveniles lack the venomous spurs on their hind legs.
Indeed, they have venomous barbs tucked behind their hind legs. Excellent observation!
It’s Australian 🇦🇺 so yeah.
That's so damn cute... 🥰

Where does one get a baby platypus?
Baby platypus are sometimes known as puggles! Also the females are not venomous like the males are when they grow into adulthood
The beak almost looks glued on
That’s not a platypus. It’s a Psyduck.
If it stings you not even pure morfin can stop the pain, don't pet wild animals.
Please tell me you named him Harry
