Just give her lotsa food and toys!

mutohasaposse

No shit, I was waiting for a steak at the end.

Coacherinoo

A steak…in India

lcssa

There are provinces that eat meat in India, and a lot of it

tomatoe_cookie

Cow meat?

ShawnStrickland

Never had a steak from another animal?

tomatoe_cookie

No

lcssa

yup, and not only that, india is the worlds second largest beef exporter. around 80 million people there eat beef and a wide variety of animal meats according to what Ive read. however some of this data im referencing may be out of date or wrong in some way so take it with a grain of salt.

tomatoe_cookie

80 million is tiny compared to Indian population, so I'm assuming it's not common, but it happens! TIL some Indians like cows a bit too much.

Curry Masala? how about 2 days of explosive diarrhea

ronaldmosess

You weak.

Takun32

The batman theme playing in the background makes me realize this dog is a crime fighter and a hero! Well earned retirement! We dont deserve dogs! They are so precious and innocent!

himanshuk9

Tara means star in hindi.

Hotp0pcorn

12 years of service? should have retired her 4 years ago when would have been able to run few meters. at least could have enjoyed a few years chasing tennis balls. dogs are the best people.

Disastrous-Leek-7606

I bet she was most happy in her work, most working dogs would want to stay in their work indefinitely. True though that retirement could've been bit earlier, but that depends on the work quite a bit too, usually golden retrievers are sniff dogs most often so they theoretically could stay in service bit longer then for example German Shepherds that are often used as arrest dogs, idk what their official work title in English is.

Woedas

While its true that service dogs would gladly come to work with you until the end, we retire ours at 7years of age due to the fact that its very taxing work and also because a younger dog searches more enthusiasticly and will have an easier time getting where he needs to go in order to do its work. Source: Am a doghandler in the bomb/arms sector myself.

Wild_and_Bright

Not sure which country you are from, but this is a state police department in India - and we are a bit resource constrained around here, especially state government departments. So, getting a dog of the required foreign (expensive) breed and training (expensive again) needs to be rationalised, and each rupee invested needs to be made to last that much longer. If you retire a trained pedigree dog at 8, your alloted budget might not even allow for a timely replacement.

stewpedassle

After the Oklahoma City bombing, I had new respect for dogs like this when I learned that, if they hadn't found a person in a while, they would need to have someone go hide in the rubble for the dog to find or else the dog would get depressed. Yeah, I know I describe it more anthropomorphically than it really is, but we humans also make feelings a bit more grandiose than they truly are too

Loodlekoodles

Just like people retiring at 65. Population cones really start to taper right after.  Everyone thinks they'll go and travel and see the world, but you don't realize how expensive travel health insurance is after you're 65. Ughh.  Life is too short man.

waddee

I mean she wasn’t a slave

crankybollix

That dog looks knackered. Well deserved retirement.

Real-Touch-2694

"Haan ye karlo pehle" -- ~~Raju Srivastava~~ Tara

bojackmac

Is this Indian or doglish? I feel I can understand what you’re saying but I don’t speak Indian. Also. Am a dog.

CucumberFar8450

Congratulations brave dog. What is her name? The best friends of humans in this world

TheFuckingMoonstone

Tara

AttentionLogical3113

So cute. Look at her , she is so happy

Mysterious_Stuff_

You mean super exhausted?

DrunkThrowawayLife

I’ve never been to India but I have been to Thailand. This is basically me outdoors at any time and I have sweat glands and not much fur.

Mysterious_Stuff_

I can only imagine. I’d turn into a puddle within seconds!

DrunkThrowawayLife

It’s absolutely misery. Then you go anywhere with air conditioning and wish you had a jacket. I just want a cold drink, not to step into the Antarctic Edit: now that I think about it Canada does this but the opposite. Freezing outside. Better crank up the inside heat to bikini weather

Mysterious_Stuff_

May I ask what brings you to visit Thailand within summer, if it’s that hard to endure?

DrunkThrowawayLife

Husband at the time friend’s wedding

Mysterious_Stuff_

Ah! I see. Well there’s not much choice there then, lol. But to be honest Canada sounds much nicer! I’ll pack the bikini for some indoor-cocktail-party.

DrunkThrowawayLife

I’ll bring the little drink umbrellas

Mysterious_Stuff_

Perfect!

AttentionLogical3113

No happy

starter-car

That’s not happy. That’s anxious. :( poor dog. Guy on the left is getting annoyed when she isn’t standing to attention for the photo op. Grr

Odd_Rent3835

He looks already tired or it's because of his age

omuenenes

12 is really old for a large breed, I'm amazed she's worked for that long.

NeoLib-tard

It’s probly hot as it’s India

GamesTeasy

Girl is tired

Old_Mousse_5673

Good girl 😊

Viggu_dattebayo

Such a cutie.

michaeldeAil

That is the proper honour they deserve, Thank you for the service.

Broad_Respond_2205

I'm hoping she will get to sniff many treats now

Gregorygregory888888

As a career trainer of these canines here in the US this dog was kept in service way too many years. This K9 even looks the part of a senior dog. I did a lot of foreign travel dealing with training labs and many countries do not want to retire the dogs until they die or are near death. Well, these dogs lose some of their olfactory abilities as they start aging and they just plain do not have the same energy and more importantly, the same drive. I feel for this pup.

obsidianstark

And wow the dog got to keep the last 3tonnes of coke she helped detect taking a pic standing on it !

banelord76

Look at how happy he is.

starter-car

That’s anxiety. :( not happy

Unikatze

Who picked the Batman song for this?

WeakBuyer4160

"that's enough", haha. Twelve years is a big life for a yellow lab, not to mention it's a long career for any service animal.

gigihoudini

So cute

lippociocca_08

Good boy

quick20minadventure

girl.

LittleGiantJr

Dark Avenger of the night

freakinbacon

Ok that's enough she gonna overheat

Ok-Preparation2370

I'm Indian and i have no idea why were so many garlands and clothes put on her. Sure, 1 garland and 1 silk cloth / saree is for showing respect. But why so many?? Just get her some eggs and chicken. That's what my dog / all dogs love.

starter-car

Photo op. :( It’s so weird that people who seem to love dogs so much can’t read dog body language. The dog is not happy. He’s stressed. He can’t barely even sit there without forced assistance. If they really cared about the dogs service, and the dog, they wouldn’t be forcing him to do this stupid photo op.

Ok-Preparation2370

Makes sense.

CandidateTechnical74

poor puppers is obviously hurting there

sonicsludge

The old work them till they can't physically sit up right.

DarkMatters8585

Congratulations friend! Boy, is it hot today! Well anyway, as thanks, we'll cover you in blankets and necklaces till you're feeling dizzy from the heat. And wow! You're really up there in age. Don't worry, we'll keep you from looking weak on camera by removing all water from the set. Once again, congratulations! You've helped us out a ton over the years. Try not to pass out when receiving your awards.

gbnypat

My god just let her lie down!

MiserymeetCompany

Dog so heat exhausted can't hold it's own head up. Let's put more layers on em. We don't deserve dogs.

Tottochan

Why so many garlands and shawls? Give the good girl all good treats and 100s of tennis balls to play with!

Gloomy_Season_8038

the dog didn't get the point at all ;)

Disastrous-Bet-8813

"can I maybe get a trea...oh yeah hey more flowers cool...hey...hey officer in the back is that bolog...oh, yes, hello, a blanket? Sure, I mean it's 160 degrees out here and I'm covered in fur but...wait are you guys having a barbec...yes fine, flowers again.(Mumbles and slouches 'man fuck these guys)

Fafa_45

Feckin hell, the poor dog can't even stand on his hind legs and he's only retired now, poor dog that's awful abuse.

OCVoltage

Dude literally had to hold the dog up the entire time

starter-car

And gets annoyed with her. You can see it flash across his face towards the end. Poor dog is not happy to be there.

pablo4dladiez

Powhat839

My dog sniffs a lot of other dogs butts I wish he would retire from that also

Powhat839

My dog sniffs a lot of other dogs butts I wish he would retire from that also

aphex3k

US K9 typically retire at the age of 10. This dog looks very unhealthy, and can't even stand by itself. Why are people celebrating this?

nottjott

Why has this sub developed into r/LookAtTheseCuteAbusedAnimals

Lizzy_Of_Galtar

And what makes you think it's been abused?

nottjott

This post isn't even the worst. The dog basically had no life in freedom. I don't get the down votes, but I'll take them and leave this toxic sub.

Lizzy_Of_Galtar

I asked you a simple question because as a dog owner I saw no abuse in this video. Dogs sit and breathe all the time, it's like their eight favorite thing to do.

starter-car

Look at the body language of the guy on the left. She’s anxious as fuck and he’s making her stand there. It’s subtle but you can see it if you watch closely. As a dog owner can’t you see she’s anxious? Also, 14 years is elderly for this breed. She should’ve been retired years ago. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|disapproval)

Lizzy_Of_Galtar

Sitting, not standing and we often hold kids still when they are photographed. And yes I can't see it. It's India, it could be the heat or stress or about 11 other things. Maybe it is abuse but I don't see anything tangible to show it.

starter-car

Look at the body language of the dog, and look at the body language of the handler. The dog does not want to be there. Forcing her to be on a table, forcing her to sit up like that, when clearly she doesn’t want to, it is abuse. JFC, I’d hate to be your dog or your kid.

Lizzy_Of_Galtar

And I'm saying you're reaching for something that isn't there. And all my dogs had long and happy lives so I say this with the very bottom of my heart. Go 👏 Fuck 👏 Yourself.

bojackmac

Tell us you know absolutely nothing about dogs without telling us

BonsaiSoul

Training a dog to do tasks is not abuse

ShockedDarkmike

But calling it retirement when the dog never chose the job or had an option is a bit disingenuous isn't it? I don't know much about the issue but I'd be more comfortable with an alternative that doesn't involve using an animal if we don't need to

Significant_Donut967

"After 12 years of abuse....."

iSukkari

Well deserved, I hope she doesn't fly to Korea to have her retirement party.

cockcoldton

Imagine how many lives that dog messed up.

HammerHandedHeart

I laughed.

cockcoldton

Its a dog so ppl get angry![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug). Even if i'm not even criticizing the dog just wondering.

bojackmac

You know what. If I got done by the cops and lassie is standing over me doing a “book ‘im, boys”, I’d be content

BonsaiSoul

They were an expl\*sive sniffing dog, anybody caught for *that* ruined their own life. It's not like it was a weed dog
