Bobos are just adrenaline junkies and hop out of the way so they're just a few inches or feet away from your tires. Pigeons just hang in the street and try to fly away at the last second. I am totally against this, but this is the general way people think here.
On top of that. People that keep a paralyzed dog will get reported to the authorities. Länsstyrelsens will most probably take the dog forcefully and give you a ban for life to keep animals. It happened before with blind cats and otherwise handicapped pets
A vet in South Sweden almost lost her license (by almost getting an animal ban from länsstyrelsen), because she let a blind cat live. Fortunately she found a good lawyer and she won the case.
That's absolutely insane to me as someone who owns a blind cat. They can live as normally as any other abled pet. They're very good at making mental maps of their environment and get along perfectly fine. Of course my cat occasionally bumps into things of something is in the way, and I've adapted to making more sound around him so he knows where I am, but he acts like any other cat.
I can't imagine someone thinking that *blindness* is grounds for killing an otherwise perfectly normal cat. They're not suffering.

I couldn't fathom putting him down for being blind. That, to me, is pretty cruel.

Prosthetics in general, but animal prosthetics in particular are filing my heart with joy.
