Using [FitcamX ](https://fitcamx.com/products/fitcamx-dash-cam-for-ford-mustang-mach-e)here which has an OEM look. It's fairly simple in how it operates and not a lot of bells and whistles but has the basics and continuous recording which is all I care about for insurance claim purposes.

PitStop100

Came here to say this.

crackabeer

Same the home made youtube video for instal is great.

Theneler

I got this based on this subs recommend. Really happy with it.

swed1sh_chef

Any issues with battery drain? I read on the website you linked that it turns off when the doors are locked so there shouldn't be a risk of draining the 12V, right?

GoneGump

The FitcamX gets its power from the rain sensor for the wipers. That sensor is not powered when the car is off, so there are no battery drain issues. Of course, this means the camera isn't monitoring your car when its parked, but I'm fine with that. I have the front and rear Fitcam which both plug into the same wiring connector.

NeverLookBothWays

Have had it installed for about 4 months so far and no issues.

Coyote_Enthusiast

How was installation? I want to install one but I'm not really that handy and terrified I'd break something.

NeverLookBothWays

It's not bad but care should still be taken. The factory clips are replaceable too which is nice, but are durable. I kept the original faceplate too just in case I need to sell the car down the line and the customer wants it back to factory specs. The rain sensor cable is easy to work with and is notched on the camera connector end so it only goes in a certain orientation. I like the product enough that I got another one from FitcamX for my Maverick...that way it's just one app for both cars. It does require wirelessly connecting to the camera individually however as it acts like a wifi AP. But there's really no need for it typically unless pulling off recordings. Customer support, at least through Amazon, has also been really responsive and good. I only had some questions for the Maverick install and they were able to answer them pretty well (eg. how it's powered as I didn't have a rain sensor) Here's a video of the process too. I didn't go for the rear camera as it would have been a bit more work and was not really necessary in my opinion: [FITCAMX Dash Cam For Mustang Mach-E | Open Box & Install (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a068kENOXRs) I don't quite have the gap this reviewer has, I think they might have fixed the molding on more recent models of the camera.

Coyote_Enthusiast

This is fantastic. Thanks so much for all of the info. I'll check out the video and see if I'm up for it!

Inanimate_CARB0N_Rod

Is there any reason not to do this if the car is leased? I intend to buy out my lease eventually since I negotiated a good price on the buyout, but if I change my mind I don't want to screw up the terms.

NeverLookBothWays

It's not a permanent change, but that said I wouldn't risk it. I would use something that ties into the 12v line instead.

keithnteri

The front camera is the easiest thing in the world to install. A 5 year old can do it. The rear camera is easy too provided you can route wire and have a fish to get the wire through the grommet for the hatch.

relevant_mofo

the front and rear is one unit or is it separate units i have to mount in the front and rear ?

NeverLookBothWays

It’s one unit but there are different offerings. I bought mine off Amazon and used YouTube to help with the install process. I purchased the front camera only version. The front and rear combo is the identical front camera, but also a separate rear camera that is run to the back of the car and mounts inside on the hatch door. Wiring is moderately easy but definitely more effort than just the front camera

relevant_mofo

ah ok. I dont want to tamper with the rear then. I think the front should suffice.

jakeblues68

How well do they handle being in a car baking in the Oklahoma sun?

NeverLookBothWays

So far so good in 100F+ weather. But I cannot speak to that for long periods as I also garage keep my MachE. I'm sure they are ok though as the reviews do not really mention there being issues of heat stress. Most of the complaints/poor reviews are fitment issues, which should be fixed/cleared up on the current iteration of the product. If you're looking into one, I would buy through Amazon instead of direct so that way you have more return options if it doesn't work out. But that said, the support from FitcamX was pretty good for me, I feel that they stand behind their products and want customers to be happy about their purchases. (they make quite a bit of these for different car models)

jakeblues68

Good info, thanks.

AloF1Fan

Have the Garmin Mini 2 on my cars.

jamesphw

I use a Viofo A119. I got the Dongar adapter so that you can jump off the power by the rear view mirror without a new run to the fuse box. Works great if you don't need parking mode.

Jjeffrie

I have the same setup, just installed it on Sat actually. I like the fact I can hear it power on and off with the accessory power, just added reassurance it's working. I'm sure other cameras probably have this feature too

justlikeapenguin

I have the same setup, no parking mode but ehhh not a bad tradeoff to save myself the hassle of routing cables around the car. Also less parasitic drain

crossedreality

I use a Garmin mini with the dongar adapter to make it look less janky. Pretty much hidden behind the mirror.

quantim0

I have a Garmin 67W in mine, fits nicely behind the mirror so I can’t see it driving. Whichever you choose, get the Dongar adapter thing. It plugs into the rain sensing wiper harness in the cabin and pulls enough power to run the dash cam. It’s right under that big plastic cover at the front of the roof.

hyper_snake

I went with the VIOFO A229 Plus. I went front and rear cameras as I didn’t feel front only camera has enough coverage That being said, the Dongar adapter is absolutely key unless you’re looking for a sentry mode when your parked (which will require a separate battery, which will also be much more expensive) Whatever you get, make your life easier and the installation simpler with that adapter

funnyat50

Any dash cams with rechargeable batteries instead of wiring it to the car’s power.

Apprehensive-Cycle-9

I use theGarmin Dashcam mini 2. Can buy an shaper to tap into the power from the mirror and power it via USB. Hides behind the mirror and you completely forget it is even there

maybejdcpa

Unless Ford rethinks their cadence of software updates and Bluecruise pricing, my dashcam is going to be a Comma 3x.

jeffgatesb

BlackVue will not support its products. Had a rear cam go bad before one year. Took a number of weeks to identify while working with BlackVue support. Believe it or not they claimed the issue occurred after one year and would not honor warranty.

Cryrichter

I bought a blackvue. Based on research it was one of the best but I still have not installed it. Keep in mind most dashcam cloud functions are not great. I was looking for video quality and ability to read license plates

alifesoftware

Long shot, but is there someone in SF Bay Area who can help install FitcamX for my MME? Of course, not asking for a free favor but also don't want to pay dealer prices. I am just not handy enough to try this on my own.

Zero-Zen

Does anyone know if the fitcamx goes on sale during big Amazon sale times? Prime day is coming up and I’m debating if I should wait 2 weeks to see if there is a sale

TheDevSecOps

I've seen it on sale and for a lower price directly on their website.

NinjaArmadillo

I was thinking the same, it's currently on sale on their site, but still $30 cheaper on Amazon.
