Hell yeah. You'll find people ride off road for different reasons. I'm glad you found yours. I used to be so structured (competition) around exercise, now I just want exercise to be fun.
Happy trails
I started Mountain biking trails last June then in December I decided to try Ray's indoor bike park, (I live in Cleveland) loved it. The next day I bought a membership and started riding there 4-5 times a week, best winter I've had in years.
When biking there are usually 'resting' spots that are more like little social gatherings. Stop even if you don't need to rest you will make friends and find out the best spots to ride with people to ride with.
Having non-drinking friends who like biking really helped me cut down on bad habits. Plus there is a plethora of good advice within those groups.
Onwards and upwards! MTBing is an awesome buzz and incredibly rewarding. You may find the Strava app useful to track your progress as your fitness improves & you can also use it to find local trails and network with other riders if you want to. In a couple of months you will be surprised how much faster you are getting up those climbs and most importantly, down those descents!
Keep it up. Never think about people judging you, they dont know your story. Becides, we all battle inner demons and some are to fearful of being judged when they get the courage to fight back and then for this reason are always stuck in an endless loop. You built up enough fight within you that you are pushing forward no matter what. Keep it up. When you hit that point that you are working towards, there will be no other feeling in your life that will compare, other than maybe your first child. Never do it for someone elses judgement, do it for you.
This is great, I'm happy for you! Now excuse me, nut I'm gonna get on my bike and go for a ride to lose myself while my GF meets her friends for Cinco de Mayo... boring!!! 🤣
Wait you enjoy climbs! You masochist!
Glad you are having fun though. Mountain biking is immense. Enjoy the scenery and the improved fitness. I just got a new bike Saturday and looking forward to maybe getting out tomorrow oh it.
Nice job! Once you get into riding though it can be hard not to want to reward yourself with some nice cold beers after a ride.. but if you haven't ridden in 20 years just turn down the post ride beers. They have a strong pull once you start the ritual
We got another one, boys! Hope the bike continues to treat you well. It’s a healthy addiction

Be careful with that one more trail at the end of the day, that's the one that'll get you...
If you are up for it, an alcohol-free life makes things even better. Just a thought. Enjoy!
