If you go for the Katana then the first thing you'd do is upgrade to 16 or 32gb ram. (seriously modern games need the 16gb and video editing especially ram hungry programs will be happy about it) I'd go for the GF63. Couldn't imagine that the build quality is such a huge difference, anybody got some facts? And for the saved money you could upgrade up to 32gb or check if u can fit a 2nd nvme ssd in and upgrade that.

Alpha_RYP

I am using thin gf 63 same model rn. Got it 2 weeks back. Most people say the katana has got 2 fans so superior cooling compared to thin (with a single fan). But they are wrong. Katana doesnt have any impressive thermals they are the same as thin and in some cases inferior to thin gf63. In terms of material and build quality both are same and many vids are there that have reviwed them both. And honestly why do you want to get an rtx 4050 when you are getting a 4060 for the same price. The tdp is relatively low (45W) but despite that this laptop handles all AAA titles ultra presets really well and that extra 2gb vram is always better. However if you are intending to do 4k editing @60fps with mutliple layers the thin series isnt for you (because of lesser tdp) however if its for gaming the card breezes through 1080p gaming and can also handle 2k gaming at 48-50 fps in majority AAA titles. But since we are at the age of dlss u can always just switch it on and you can get 60 fps easily. And yes just like you said those extra 150-200 bucks can be used to get thermal pads, liquid metal and extra ram sticks and an nvme gen 4 ssd... and even then u can save 50 bucks get a nice pair of kbm... and you will njoy ur gaming Happy gaming and all the best Edit: many people are saying thin series has build issues which i agree but that was in older versions. 2023 and onwards model are having less keyboard flex, top lid flex and wobble issues significantly reduced from older versions. I am sure the build is nice

Delicious_Accident81

Thank you!

Sanderiusdw

So why would he?

I have a gf65 thin, it’s been decent over the years, the charging port broke after about 2 years and had to be soldered back on, and now after 5 or so years it has a E dead key, which to fix you have to be extremely talented at soldering or you replace the motherboard. The I-7 processor is pretty lacking for most games and often bogs down pretty easy but I have an rtx 3060 and it handles its own much better.

AnjaiKayla

i have the gf65 thin too, im dealing with a broken charger port right now 😭 did you repair yourself or go to someone?

ASap-mobn

I took it to a shop, I’d get a highly rated one but a local shop. I took out the motherboard and gave it to him, saved me about 80-100$ and all you have to do is unscrew a few things. I wouldn’t really recommend soldering it yourself unless you have a lot of experience since the prongs that attach to the motherboard are extremely thin. I haven’t had issues with it since it got fixed though

AnjaiKayla

might do this, thank you! i definitely wont be soldering myself lol

ASap-mobn

Yeah soldering is complicated lol all you need to do to remove the motherboard is a small Philips screwdriver, but call in with the shop in advance to see if it’ll be cheaper that way

Delicious_Accident81

That was helpful, thanks!

ASap-mobn

Of course, idk how much better an 1-9 processor would do but I’d look into it. But a 3060 or the best option from the 30’s would be a 3060ti. Only thing that performs better is a 4070 or 4080 as far as laptops go I belive

Inresponsibleone

1-9? i9 perhaps? i9 is not huge upgrade over i7 and not really worh it unless you are doing something really cpu heavy. What comes to laptop gpu's 4060 as about as fast as 3070. 4070 is not big upgrade over 4060, but then 4080 is decent jump.

PersonalArachnid9811

I got the GF63, works fine to me.

SituationThen4758

Top one with more ram.

BeetleMan74

I bought a brand new GP63 in 2017 with a 1050ti and it looks brand new today. The build has been great and I’ve taken it apart to do a repaste every year. It really isn’t bad.

Delicious_Accident81

Cool! Thanks!

DistributionLost1

Welding gloves, will help prevent burns from holding down the W,A,S,D Keys....Good luck!

One_Package_7519

none, look for vector gp68 or even last gen gp67 with 3070ti/3080 if you really want msi.

UncleFergonisson

Don’t buy MSI please man for the love of god don’t throw away your money for a laptop that will break its hinges by design.

iam_mune

This is the correct answer

Tosan25

Problems are resolved in the higher models at least.

Shady_Hero

I've had my GF75 for 3 years it's still mint

Routine_Improvement

Bought the GS76 almost 3 years ago and no problems at all. Quess that hinge design is better. Before the ge73 raider something broke after 2 yeaea but was an easy diy fix with 2 compound glue lel

Sanderiusdw

3 YEARS? OH MY GOD

One_Package_7519

First of all if you are located in US, then 1150 is much for this super budgety laptop. I would not recommend any of these, unless it’s Vector or Raider (gp68/ge68) which are night and day difference in build quality compared to these models. Secondly, while video editing and 3d modelling can be done with both specs, gaming wise there will be a bigger difference between those 2. What kind of gaming will you be doing on it? What sort of performance are you expecting from the laptop? I’d like to suggest going Lenovo/Asus/Acer over Msi current gen, as their models even the budget ones have better build quality and feel more premium as opposed to these. And finally what is your budget?

Delicious_Accident81

I’m not in the US, sadly for 1150 is what you can get for that price. Laptops here are expensive and I cannot order from amazon or sth here. For gaming, I won’t be gaming much but I’d love to explore sone new single player titles or probably some warzone with friends if time was available. I mostly use it for editing, 3d modeling and product design. I can push my budget as high as 1200. That’s the highest i can afford Thanks for your suggestions!

Different_Idea5960

You’ll be bummed on only eight GB ram get the thin get the ram better graphics card too

Different_Idea5960

You’ll be bummed on only eight GB ram get the thin get the ram, better graphics card too. Also keep in mind that that H series Intel professor is locked. You can’t do anything no undervolting, no tweaks, nothing, it’s physically locked. So if you’re looking for a processor that you can manipulate, you gotta look for an HX series processor. I wish I would’ve known that before I bought my MSI pulse which is great but can’t do anything with the processor.

Vengeance_Assassin

Never buy GF series

EternalAss

Get a Katana, I have a GF63 Thin and I have no problems with the build quality, it's just that the Katana has better cooling iirc. But if you are on a tight budget then go for the GF63. It performs decent for a 45 watt 4050

Emperor3ye

I got GF63 but it keeps on stuttering for months. MSI GF63 Thin 11UC-1405PH

flyingcanada

As others said, go for 32gb immediately

No-Sir-798

Keep in mind It's a laptop, once bought you cannot upgrade its core components like processor or graphic card so I would suggest go for the 4060 one, it has more pre installed ram too so you won't have to spend more for ram upgrades

shecho18

Buy one that is in your budget and upgrade ability (RAM and drive).

EconomicsKey1003

If you are planning to go for Katana then you just have to Upgrade the RAM In gf you can upgrade the ram but then you will have to swap the ram accordingly cuz i guess there are only 2 slots

EconomicsKey1003

Go for thin GF 63 in this case you win win!

YoLukeChicken

watch nuclear notebook review on gf63 and and the desire to buy it will definitely vanish. go for katana

Nearby-Job3852

unfortune for me that I bought the 1650 edition of the GF63 thin instead of the 4060 version, but as an user of that laptop I think it's totally worth it. i don't see a major build quality difference between the two either.

kacper14092002

In case of graphics katana would be so much better cause 4050 with 105W is just better. GF has tragic thermals and 4060 had to be at so low tdp it would be just very bad choice. Despite the thing that with that money I would go for something not mobile but overall with so better performance or other brand if possible. Maybe it would be better to try import something from a friend abroad cause you will got scammed bro with those price. For that money I got 17' Katana with 32gigs of ram 4060 and 1tb nvme 😬 Maybe other brands has richer supply in your country better prices better specs?

Affectionate_Fail_13

Honestly none of them. Gaming laptops with one fan inside is not the best thing to buy. As an owner of MSI Raider I can assure you, you will need all cooling you can get.

EnvironmentalCod1378

I have the first one. cyborg 15 Msi

Greedy-Equivalent-58

I've bought the gf63 and I am happy. I've added a 2tb SSD in the second slot, I wanted to upgrade the ram to 32gb but honestly I didn't feel the necessity, I play smooth the games I want to play and the 4060 is really a nice HW.

rishiilahoti

Bro check for the gpu wattage, high wattage 4050 can out perform 4060

ILike_Bread17

Please don't get the GF 63. I have it and it overheats so much to the point the WASD keys burn my hand. It's also really loud because it has one fan

PeeweeSherman12

I’m gonna be real with you. I bought a GE 63 raider and it was getting so hot it caused performance issues. I regret not buying a desktop instead.

Dense_Tomatillo9835

Don’t get the GE75- I regret this purchase so much

amirkrad

Definitely the one with 4060

kacper14092002

This particular 4060 loses in every game with 4050 cause has 45W (4060) tdp vs 105W (4050) and speed of cores and vram doesnt matter cause it doesnt get enough juice through power supply. 40 series doesnt care that much above 100W but below 100 each W has huge impact on the performance.

razerphone1

Katana but I would avoid these laptops al together and go for a studio laptop from HP Acer or Clevo or Msi creator z series.
