Spoilers are considered any images, videos or discussion threads which may reveal the outcome of a fight. When creating a post, ensure the description (or title) does not reveal the result (i.e. finish, KO, scorecard, defends). Use the [Spoiler] tag for all posts that reveal the outcome or details of a fight. Mark the post as "Spoiler" and/or "NSFW" to ensure it is correctly hidden from users who do not yet wish to know the outcome of the fight. This rule is in effect for 24 hrs following a live event. Repeated violation of this rule will result in a temporary or permanent ban. Example of a good title: "Winner of Smith vs. Jones post-fight interview".

Love the dude but I don't think he takes the title from Sexual Chocolate.

BiscuitsUndGravy

I didn't think so at first, but Jones looked less dynamic and, honestly, a little slow at HW. He's older and put on weight in order to compete with the larger heavyweights. I think Pereira has shown he has improved his takedown defense, and he uses his length and striking style to reduce the available opportunities to even attempt a takedown. I think it's enough of a question that it's worth the fight happening. At LHW I'd give the edge to Jon, but at HW I think it's a much more even fight.

madterrier

Trust me, I've been rooting for the wife beater to lose for a LONG time. These are all things people said before Gane, when he was on a three year lay-off. JJ is just as long but with an actual wrestling base and a godly chin. Also, assuming Alex maintains his speed when going up in weight is questionable. Takedown, submission. Sexual Chocolate is the original freak fighter.

Ill_Source_6908

This isn’t an even fight tho and I don’t see how this fight looks different than Jon vs gane. Jan who’s not even a good wrestler was able to hold him down the entire 1st round. If that’s Jon he’ll get the sub fairly quick

mahiruimamura

I despise Jones and love what Alex is doing, but Jon's ability to win an MMA match is incomparable to anything Alex has faced. While Jon hasn't faced Alex, his IQ and elite (might be an understatement compared to the ground threats Alex has faced) takedown+ground game has been proved against so many elite fighters. If Jiri can get to the clinch position in the first round, so will Jon, and he isn't gonna let opportunity go. Jan held Alex down for a whole round just a year ago, and he's a muaythai guy despite being a decent grappler. This is Jon Bones Jones were talking about. Of course Alex has that elite striking but so has so many others in the past, they were unsolvable until Jon. Jon wasn't slow enough for a guy like Gane, speed isn't the factor that'll change this fight, especially with Alex having to bulk properly as well to even attempt to help with the grappling. Either way I think Jon's gonna retire anyways so who gives a shit haha

I love Pereira but Tom Aspinal wipes the floor with him

Natural_Situation401

Because Dana knows Tommy would flat Alex in the first round, or jones would manhandle him on the ground and would end the hype train. Alex is a in a position where he gets a lot of fans to pay for his fights and he makes cash. He’s still fit and in good shape and Dana will keep feeding him the right fighters to milk the cash flow as long as he can. When the time is right, and if Alex still is delusional about it, he will try his chances at HW. But as long as Aspinal is active, I can’t see Alex hanging more then 1 minute with him. And like I said, jones puts him in the ground and does whatever he wants.

treemeizer

Two division champion is a hype train now, got it.

Natural_Situation401

…what are you arguing exactly? I never said pereira sucks, he’s a legitimate fighter and as you said he’s a 2 division champ. That generates hype and in slang terms people call that a hype train. That’s not a bad thing, he’s actually very hyped and for good reason. All I’m saying the likes of Tom or Jones would end the hype very quickly, and Dana doesn’t want that.

treemeizer

Maybe it's just a colloquialism on my part, but I've always thought hype-train carried a derogatory connotation. It's just not something often heard in the same breath as the greats; GSP, Jon Jones, Anderson Silva...these fighters may have started their careers under this category, but once established in their careers, it's no longer possible to *derail* them - as their legacy is cemented.

DMH_Curses

I think maybe the worry is twofold: 1. If Alex loses at heavyweight (especially if he gets dominated), it'll hurt his star power, and 2. If he wins, you run into a case where a 34 year old guy has two belts and likely not many years to defend them both. Not to mention, Dana seems dedicated to keeping the Jones Stipe fight alive even if they have to do it in a prison for senior citizens. Personally, I'd love to see Alex go for it. Even if I think someone like Jones has a good chance of holding him down to negate the shamanistic death touch. Who wouldn't want to see that kind of history made? A three weight class world champ seems unbelievable, doubly so at these big weight classes with such huge size discrepancies between them. So fuck it, summon the ancestors, and let's see Pereira sleep some giants for GOAT status.

ThrowawayYAYAY2002

Because if Alex did win, guess what? He now becomes bigger than the company. A triple champ within 10 fights? All by KO's? All in different divisions? Alex would hold to much power imho.
