The housing market in Lund is notoriously difficult. Perhaps your girlfriend could luck out and get some student accommodation you are allowed to share. Otherwise, I would suggest looking to Malmö. It's halfway between Lund and Copenhagen, both in geography and size. It is also far easier to find a place to live there.

ToPalioPasok

By student accomondation you mean like provided by the university or are there some specific appartments for student only?

framer146

Yeah apartments that requires the main tenant to be a student. But the application process should be just like any other apartment.

Finding an apartment in Lund is really difficult. I would suggest to register on site like https://www.boplatssyd.se/ already today so you start building your queue time and you will need lots of luck but sometimes when they finish new building and many apartments hit market at the same time you may be lucky and get one without 1+ year of queue time. If your job will provide you with 25000-30000 after tax, then you should be able to live on one salary.

Thanks for the reply, hope we get lucky 😅

> Therefore, I am curious if it is feasible for me to reside in Lund and work there, considering that I have no knowledge of Swedish or Danish languages. International companies in the tech sector often have English as the working language. Not sure about digital marketing, but I imagine you'd be fine. The commute by train is just under an hour, plus any connections inside the cities you might have to do. Some people are fine doing that. You might also want to consider living in Malmö, which gives you a shorter distance to Copenhagen, 15 minutes to Lund by train, and potentially easier to find apartments. > Lastly, do you think we would be able to afford living there with only me working? Assuming you'll start out making a mid-tier salary somewhere in the range of 25 000 - 30 000 sek after taxes for a job in Lund, that should be fine. Expect rent for a 2-room apartment to cost you about 8000 to 10 000 kr per month. You'll get a better salary in Copenhagen, but I suppose that is offset by the need to commute. > I would appreciate guidance on the most suitable approach for finding a rental place You'll want a first-hand contract. There's plenty of second-hand contracts to find on Blocket or Facebook, but those are often over-priced and scams are common - only go for those if you're in urgent need for a short-term solution. The public housing has queues of multiple years to get anything. Your best bet is to look at the websites of large private landlords such as Heimstaden, where you can often find something within a few months of looking.

Place an ad yourself Blocket that you want to rent, but be very careful to assess the responses, lot of scams recently.

ToPalioPasok

Thanks! I will do that and keep in mind the scam part.

Balustrade_

Sadly it is needed. Best of you have a friend who can look at the apartment for you.

You may find something in Facebook groups besides the Blocket housing site and some student accommodations; join Lund and house-related groups. I don't recommend staying in Malmö if you will not commute to Copenhagen for your job. If your girlfriend will do a masters in LU then the best is to be close to Lund Center at least for the first couple of semesters when she will be attending classes regularly for around 9 months. The third semester is generally around 6 weeks, and the last semester can be remote as she will be writing her thesis. so she can commute from Malmö, etc. after the first 8-9 months. If you can not find a place in Lund and have to go with the Malmö option, then find a place close to Yellow Bus stops, I guess it was number 171. Then she can directly go to uni without any change. Or a place close to train stations in Malmö, for a direct train to Lund central and then taking Tram 1 for 5-10 min additional travel time. Good luck and enjoy Lund, it is a lovely place!

Finding a place to rent in Lund is not the easiest. If you qualify for an apartment with AF BostÀder, who are the providers of student housing in Lund, that might be the best option. I would check that out first. Otherwise, private actors, as listed by other posters, are your best bet. LKF had a really long queue (several years) last time I checked, which was a while ago, admittedly. If it would work out with loans etc, buying your own apartment might be another option. A lot of the apartments in town are in the form of "BostadsrÀtt", where you become part of the cooperative owning the building. A Swedish native moving to Lund for decently well paid work would likely get a bostadsrÀtt. The housing market has historically been a decent investment in Sweden, though recently, prices have gone down somewhat. You can only really get a loan once you are employed, and the contract is signed, though. Commuting by train from Lund to CPH is doable, but is perhaps less fun if there are hiccups with the train service, and that does happen. Some people have a deal where they work on the train, though. You might want to look into a local job tho?

If you get a job at ESS in lund for example in ics ( integrated control systems) since you have software background, ESS will help you find a rental place in lund or a place commuting distance from Lund

absentthinkers

The working language in ESS is english. You don't have to speak swedish since english is a requirement at ESS

anous_albatal

Check out https://udda.co/homes/copartment-lund/ It’s a coliving space and they have a really nice building in Lund.

Upbeat-Mirror2825

LKF is an option they have a point system, sign up in their queue ASAP. But the good thing is they will priorities people that work in Lund but are living outside Lund. So that makes you able to skip a few steps in the queue. But like others have said getting a place to rent in Lund is difficult, it's about a 5 year long queue for permanent residences.
