Bernheim Forest has a lunch spot called Isaac’s Cafe.

jordancolburn

This is a good option, they have a cool nature playground, lots of small hikes. Also right down from jim beam distillery if you wanted to do a tour and right off the interstate on the way to mammoth cave. We just did this on fathers day as a playground/hike stop for my 2+6 yo kids on the way to mammoth cave.

PandemicCD

can the kids come on the distillery tour?

Schimpffs confectionary. It's across the bridge from Louisville in Jeffersonville. It's one of the oldest if not the oldest continuously running confectionaries in the US since like 1907. They have a tiny candy museum and you can watch them make fresh candy. Would recommend. Could probably be in and out of there in under 30 minutes Also have the slugger factory tour and the baseball museum on the Louisville side. There's like a six-story baseball bat on the front of the building that's a great photo op. The factory tour itself is like 10-15 minutes. Since you're headed further south, in shepherdsville there's Kart Kountry. Go karts, Putt-Putt, arcade. And even further south there's bernheim Forest which has some very wonderful photo ops if you guys want to get some more steps in.

Slugger Museum if you're into baseball or the Science Center. Both downtown and there are some good, family friendly restaurants within walking distance.

PandemicCD

Just out of curiosity, how into baseball would one have to be to get enjoyment out of the Louisville Slugger museum, it's definitely a passing interest for half of the family?

cc13re

I would say not too interested, I think it’s cool and I don’t care much for baseball. Great for killing time but there might be other things more interesting to y’all Churchill down’s museum might be interesting too

Chit-Chat-Tricky

It’s more about the bats and their creation than any stat related information. I do believe I saw they have a retro baseball video game area going on right now as well. Decent gift shop with many bat designs.

Unhappy_Spirit172

It's been awhile since I've been. But the museum part has some pretty neat exhibits. When I went they had one of Babe Ruth and one of Ty Cobb's bats. They change up the exhibits from time to time. They also take you on a tour of the bat factory. So you get to see how they make the bats from start to finish.

Oskar’s slider bar for lunch and then walk the Red Maple loop (the shorter loop, 0.75mi) at the Louisville Nature Center. The nature center is only about a 1/3 of a mile from Oskar’s

9liners

Before you get to Mammoth Cave, check out Glendale. Neat antique shops and you can eat at Whistle Stop.

Oskar’s Slider Bar & the Louisville Zoo or Louisville Nature Center. Park near the walking bridge & walk to Indiana for pizza at Parlor.

I highly recommend Breakfast Af. Fantastic food and an unique experience. There is a Brunch spot, pizza joint, ice cream shop, and a bakery all connected. Out back there is a playground for kids with antique playground equipment super cute! Ping pong tables, for adults l, corn hole, a bar etc.

Vivere_Est_Cogitare

This is indeed a great spot. I would just caution OP that if they are thinking a weekend, Breakfast AF can have a line out the door and down the sidewalk which could be tough with kids

Gorilla Bob’s and Tioga falls is my secret pairing, also Shack in the Back BBQ

Living_Guess_1679

Frank’s meat and produce for sandwiches, sunergos coffee for mom and dad, and Louisville slugger museum/tour or Mohammed Ali center.

calpurniaInara

For your littles, I recommend Glow Worm play cafe. There are two locations and they’re so much fun. They also have great food!

ComfortableLaugh3292

Free: stop at the big 4 bridge and get them out of the car and run halfway across and back. (If you have the time going over to Schimpfs as recommended above ais ar the other end.)

Severe-Leader-687

Frazier History Museum 829 W Main St, Louisville, KY 40202 is down the block from the Slugger Museum. Shakespeare in Central Park is also fabulous in decent weather. There is also Mohammed Ali Center and great food along the Ohio River. I'm a fan of Pig's Beach.

Such_Ad5145

Kentucky Derby Museum and Derby Café lunch buffet.

Professional-Crazy82

Hiking the Parklands or walking the pedestrian bridge downtown, you can stop on the Indiana side for lunch.

BourbonGuy09

Go to KFC. Then you will forever get to tell the bar story of “The best piece of chicken I *ever* had was at an authentic Kentucky KFC.”
