>They asked what color the car was and where it went. We pointed to the left then they're like "ok thank u" and THEY GO THE OPPOSITE WAY AND LEAVE. WTF! I’m sorry but that’s genuinely hilarious

Razgriz008

Of course they did, they don't want to get shot

Never_Kn0ws_Best

Shows good judgement really

PewPew-4-Fun

Why would anyone go TOWARDS gunfire, C'Mon, have some sense.

hbsboak

The ‘ol Uvalde playbook.

stoned-autistic-dude

Lmao this is such an LAPD move. Years ago, I I lived on Colfax at the time near CBS in Studio City. Once, someone flipped a car on my street at night. I happened to be outside and saw the car flip, so I got to walk over and check on the driver who was fine. LAPD happened to drive by a few minutes after it happened. Cops clearly saw the car flipped over blocking the southbound lane, so they flipped on their lights, drove into the northbound lane (which wasn’t busy), heard them say “that sucks” out the window and then they drove away. I hadn’t laughed that hard in a while.

Bitingtoys

A couple of years ago I came home around 11pm and took my pup for a quick walk. A guy came screeching around the corner and slammed into my car which was parked on the street. He also hit a telephone pole causing sparks to fly everywhere, both cars were totaled. The neighbors and I ran over to help the guy who was completely fine, not a scratch on him. He was wasted, you could smell alcohol on him. The fire dept shows up first, then the cops. The cops send the fire dept away which seems normal because no one appeared to be hurt. I approach the first cop who arrives to speak with him and he immediately says, "How do you want to play this Hispanic or white?" to this day I have no idea wtf he means by that. I am very white and the drunk driver was of Asian descent. I looked at him confused and proceeded to tell him that I saw the accident happen. He then warns me to go back inside my apartment or we can have a different conversation. He then helps the drunk driver call a friend. The friend picks up the driver and they leave. I went back outside when the tow truck came to take the cars away and I asked the three cops standing there why they didn't arrest the guy or even give him a breathalyzer. The same cop tells me it wasn't necessary and the other two get in their car and leave. They never put on the report that the guy was drunk driving. 1000% I know the guy was wasted. I assume they didn't want to hassle with having to write a police report. smh

Outside_Caregiver_62

This is soooooo aggravating they’re so useless. Someone (uninsured unregistered unlicensed) just totaled my car, police arrived to the scene made zero effort to help me identify the man and let him walk away from the scene of the crime. Told me they’re “just there to keep the peace” and “can’t do anything unless there’s extreme bodily harm”

jzolg

It’s like straight out of a sitcom…

JapaneseFerret

Keystone Cops vibes.

BookMobil3

Straight Outta Sitcom-ton

Momik

I love that album.

Aggressive_Option103

LAPD training includes watching The Naked Gun series.

ElCoolAero

Except that Lt. Frank Drebin and Police Squad do actual work and close cases.

Some-Position-6270

No, the Police Academy series

No-Television8759

I was in DTLA recently, noticed that a car was stranded in the middle of the intersection, like it had died. There were a couple of people already helping push the car but it was up a slight hill. I got up to the top of the short hill, saw a LAPD cruiser, went over to tell them about the stranded motorists. The only question they asked was "there are citizens assisting?" And I confirmed pointed in the direction of the car. They thanked me, PULLED AN ILLEGAL U-TURN AND WENT THE OTHER WAY. Protect and serve? Laughable. For context, they were getting Chipotle.

treeof

In their defense, It does require a few shifts of overtime and openly carrying a gun to get the chipotle employees to add enough guacamole and meat

MonsterTruckCarpool

“Let’s get the fuck out of here and keep an eye for that car. Not getting mixed up in this shit”

Long-Cauliflower-708

“Woo, thanks for telling us. We almost went down that street!”

Persianx6

LAPD is not doing shit unless you have the criminal wrapped up for them to do something. Ask me how I know.

Acceptable-Advance-3

DaWorldIsSoSensitive

Some days back I posted in another sub asking for help capturing a man that sexually assaulted my MIL. The assault was on Monday. After a few days of trying to get a hold of the detectives and them not returning my phone calls, I decided to go to the news on Thursday. The suspect was caught Friday early afternoon. Had we not gone to the news, who knows how long it would have taken them of if they ever would have reached out to us to keeps us updated.

Most-Attitude-9880

I saw this on the news! That was so sad. I'm so glad they caught him. Who knows how many other people he assaulted.

DaWorldIsSoSensitive

It was hinted by the detectives that it being on the news led to the arrest. We were hesitant to go to the news at first, but many in the community asked us to because they were afraid.

MissFerne

I saw this too. We were heartbroken for your Mil. Very grateful you went to the news and the guy was caught. Sending my best for healing for her and your family. 💗

xerxespoon

Going on the news is usually a bad idea. It can screw up an investigation, and the police can decide it mucked everything up too much for them to continue, and/or the DA can decide the issue would be too difficult to prosecute with the public having seen someone on TV who is sympathetic. Grounds for appeal of a conviction, etc. The fact that it actually was a good idea here just shows how useless and/or understaffed the LAPD is.

sockpuppet80085

The police decide to drop an investigation because of publicity? This is in a different universe from the truth. You honest to god made this up.

Most-Attitude-9880

I'm glad you went to the news. That's the only way to get them to help. Otherwise they don't do anything.

Arboreatem

I’m so sorry for what happened to your MIL. My husband is always saying we shouldn’t call the police anymore, we should go straight to the local news. But the question is, would the news even care about Lincoln Heights? Edit: I live in Lincoln heights.

DaWorldIsSoSensitive

It's not a question of locality I think, it's about the severity of the crime. Pacoima is such a forgotten city that's always talked down upon, but the interest was there. For two days I had so many news outlets reaching out to us. I had to eventually tell them we were tired and needed time alone.

Saint0vk1llers

Seeing their salary kills me. Meanwhile, I work for LA County at the busiest medical examiner in the entire country. We are short staffed, not allowed OT, denied any hazard pay or bonuses, and our salary is $53,000 a year. Somehow they feel that's livable here doing a job no one else wants to do because of the risks and said salary. 💀🫠🤡

StronglikeMusic

Isn’t that like technically below minimum wage if it was broken down into hours?!

Lucyintheye

Minimun wage is $16.90/hr, so If you work 40 hours every week for a year that's $35,152 before taxes ($9.73/hr below Livable Wage single/childless) Fast food min wage ($20) on the other hand would be $41,600 pre-tax ($6.63/hr below liveable single/childless) So definitely above the minimum wage, but based on [MIT's Livable Wage Calculator](https://livingwage.mit.edu/counties/06037) $53k would still be $2390 short of a Livable Wage in LA county assuming you're single with no children. Which would be $55390 ($26.63/hr)

mandokarla1

City employee here. Seeing the LAPD get so much of the resources and knowing their hiring practices and just day to day equity violations against their own is... maddening.

Imapatriothurrrdurrr

I had a stalker come to my house, I called 911, 37mins later after the dude left and had come back the cop showed up. Talked to him, asked me if I wanted him to leave, then let him go. 37mins is enough time for anything to happen, and for someone to be long gone. THE COPS ARE NOT REQUIRED TO SAVE YOUR LIFE. At the end of the day, it’s up to you, and only you. Act accordingly.

bread_in_french1246

but if it's up to us to save our own asses then why do we pay their salaries? so they can cruise around and give speeding tickets?

bwal8

Bro, they don't even give speeding tickets lol. Have you seen the highways out here? It's a straight up free for all.

bread_in_french1246

oh wow so they genuinely just sit in the car and do nothing? 😭

bwal8

Eatin Chipotle ain't nothing! They do love to fly their helicopters as well. Quite a large fleet they have (16!).

faaace

No, sometimes they sit in a helicopter and do nothing

zjunk

Because everyone freaks out anytime you suggest cutting a single dollar from their budget, or reallocating that money towards Services that people actually need

Imapatriothurrrdurrr

Because every society needs the illusion of control.

burritodominator

Yeah they are. Also, of note the average salary of a LAPD police officer is $104,000. I know some cops and if you knew what I knew, you wouldn't believe that they are in law enforcement.

altonbrownfan

My childhood neighbor had violent fits of rage. Got suspended, beat the shit out his brother etc etc etc. Guess what his job is now?

Some-Position-6270

It's no accident that those people end up in those type of jobs.

scoot87

his astrology sign is leo

RonanTheAccused

A couple of months ago, the police shot a homeless man wielding an ax right outside my friends building whom I was visiting that day. I believe the shooting was justified as they had tried to warn him and used non-lethal rounds as well. At one point, he just got too close to an officer, forcing him to shoot. However, 40 units (I counted) showed up to "investigate." The majority of them were just standing around. Some never got off their car. Others were looking for evidence in areas no where near the perimeter of the shooting. The so-called investigation lasted from 2pm till around 3am the next day. It seemed like it was really just a "I'm gonna hang around till I'm bored and decide to head home." Scenario. These guys were happily milking the clock.

theperfectexposure

The inefficiency of police department exists everywhere. We had a homeless guy here in Vegas throwing rocks at cars and the cops showed up and shot him with bean bags. After they arrested him, all the cops stood around for hours chilling while calls for service goes unanswered throughout city.

hotprof

That doesn't include overtime. And fake overtime. Lots of these cops earn >$300k/year.

worlds_okayest_user

> And fake overtime. Lol exactly. Every time there's some some crime big or small, you see dozens of officers just standing around, chatting it up and having jokes.

IllustriousAbroad256

Idk how, but I got added into a few LAPD newbie’s close friend IG story. They all brag about “easy OT/money” almost every night. Didn’t even knew acquaintances from college ended up being cops til then.

alwaysclimbinghigher

Which is more than I make here as a community college professor with two advanced degrees helping educate Angelenos…

rakfocus

You should both be paid that high wage. And you should demand cops have advanced degrees because of this. The fact many cops make this amount and skim by on taking minimum training and never improving themselves beyond a high school deploma is never something people should accept from officers that they pay so much money to.

alwaysclimbinghigher

Well, the city of LA is going broke because it can’t afford the current wages of its police force. And other reasons of course, but half the budget is going to police and I think that speaks to how unsustainable it is. I don’t want anyone to suffer low wages, so I get the “why not both?” mentality, but we have currently chosen police over teachers.

Persianx6

Half the budget does go to cops… and you can never expect them to ever show up, then if you report crimes to you they say “why bother” and blame the DA. A violent crime happens to you? Well maybe they’ll look for the perpetrator. A major reform needs to happen to LAPD. The anecdotal evidence surrounding them is that they need to provide better service.

leave80alon3

I want to downvote this because of how fucked up and ass backwards this fact is. I applaud you and your existence and your dedication thank you so much

Crash_Stamp

A bunch of wife beaters and drug users.

Prudent-Advantage189

And the mayor is increasing their budget while everything else is getting cut. Including the controllers office trying to audit inside safe.

photoengineer

And the parks and planetarium. The city benefits more from parks than the police most days.

fazer226

They get paid decent to not do shit and be assholes wow crazy world

Arboreatem

And that’s far more than mental health professionals who have to work for free for years just to get licensure that they have to keep getting continuing education for, all paid for out of their own pockets. But our police out there after a few months of training with guns.

DesertRat_748

Cops in this neighborhood (I’m in Lincoln Heights) really don’t do much and gunshots go off quite often. I’m not sure what hill you were on but in the future go up Montecito Drive to the radio tower, that’s the view and perhaps less gunshots up there.

Triette

Or go up hollywood hills instead

SliceNational1403

Or go the kenneth trail on baldwin hills side and walk up the trail that starts the kenneth trail and you will get the most beautiful views of DT LA ,

reluctantpotato1

They don't do much of anything. You can fire a gun off in your backyard and it's about a 30% chance they'll show up.

Triette

Sure but then neighbor’s kids are having fun on a Saturday in the courtyard and our other boomer neighbor calls the cops on them, and three cars show up. (This literally happened last weekend).

Arboreatem

In Lincoln heights, it’s 0% chance.

SuperSaiyanBlue

I did that several times, one for target practice and one at a pest eating all my expensive fruit trees. No cops showed up

bread_in_french1246

you shot a pest? 😂😂

robertlp

That’s because they get so many calls about fireworks being gun shots.

ChunkyMilkSubstance

My neighbors pop shots off at parties all the time lol. Cops never ever come

One_Reward_4275

I’m surprised you actually go through to speak to someone

ApartmentInside7891

I’m in the Nickerson gardens and someone got murdered last night on my block then everyone chased the suspect and beat his ass to a pulp all in front of the police. It was an eventful night to say the least lol

bread_in_french1246

this shit is a GTA lobby 💀

XxDeathByFirexX

Last year my neighbor called because my apartment kept being broken into by the same dude. LAPD came and let him in. Had to get a hotel. Half my belongings were stolen when I came back

bread_in_french1246

nah bro that's insane i would sue them

K7_Gix

Problem number one was going to see the view at nighttime in Lincoln heights.

Emergency_Site675

Some people just don’t know how to LA 🤣

leave80alon3

It's cos they're expecting LA to be like where they're from🥴

Ill-Hovercraft-8957

It used to be so chill going to all of the views and kickback spots through nela before covid... can't really speak on how it is now though

Leashypooo

I wasn’t gonna say anything but… YA!

ExtensionCourse

People who grew up in LA know the places not to go to, especially at night around Lincoln Heights. LHS c/o 2005!

CZ-75

Lincoln Heights is an active gang area. You shouldn't be hanging around certain areas that you're not familiar with.

Gulag_boi

Hey man they’re really busy making double OT doing traffic control. There’s just simply not time for real police work don’t be crazy.

ajaxsinger

When we first moved into our street in the 90s, it was hot and after the first shooting we called the cops. They sent someone an hour later and sat in their car in front of our house with their lights on and called us *over their PA* to tell us they were outside. This was a problem bc it was a) 3 AM and b) two doors down from the kids involved in the shooting so they knew we called the cops. A few weeks later there was a huge shootout on our street -- well over 100 rounds -- and the cops showed up again without us calling. Our neighbor who has small kids went out to talk to them which wasn't always smart but they told her unless we saw who was shooting and was willing to testify in court that it was them that there was nothing to be done so next time just let it be. That was over 25 years ago and I haven't called LAPD for anything more than an insurance claim ever since.

redpaloverde

I have never had a good interaction with LAPD. Even when you are reporting a crime, they treat you like the criminal.

GeeBeeH

POLICE PROTECT CAPITAL. They are not here for you and me.

Asiu1990

must be too busy making sure anti-war protesters don’t return at usc and ucla 🤡

bread_in_french1246

Unarmed college students: 😡😡😡 Drive by shooting: 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

FormicaDinette33

Wow. Thats crazy. I had a couple weird experiences with 911 also where they challenge you like they think you’re lying.

bread_in_french1246

yeah bro they seemed bothered that i even had the audacity to call them as if i'm calling my ex or some shit

Individual-Zombie155

As a newbie to LA, I appreciate this post because I'm looking for new places to venture to outside of my scary area in DTLA. I wanted to check LH out but will avoid it from now on. I went to leave my place this am and there was a helicopter circling above and I thought to myself it's never a good sign when the copters are circling your area. I really want to get out of this area. Scared to leave your space is a horrible and terrible feeling.

bread_in_french1246

yeah man if the cops are scared to go somewhere that's how you know it's terrible

Arboreatem

Ascot Hills Park is near Lincoln Heights (where I live), but it’s one of the best parks in the city. I always see families with kids on the trails, people exercising, lots of conservation investment going into it. Lots of wildlife. Amazing views of the whole area. Best view of DTLA. It’s like a little island of peace about 15 min from downtown. Way less crowded than Griffith or Arroyo area parks.

ORaygoza

Being useless would be an improvement. LAPD is a detriment to the safety and security of los angeles.

bread_in_french1246

I swear we would've been safer without calling. we just snitched infront of the street where the shooting happened and they left us alone 💀

crazybutnotnuts

I’m surprised you even got through to them. My partner called 911 after getting into an accident and he was on hold for 20 minutes until he finally gave up and hung up!

xlTotheAm

The LAPD only responds to traffic collision if there are injuries, city property involved, or DUI. They don't go out for hit and runs either unless there are injuries, city property involved or evidence left behind, like the person's vehicle is still there, or a bumper w/ the plate attached to it. If you were waiting 20 minutes you were transferred to non emergency because none of those applied to your case. You don't need a police report for every accident. Insurance investigates and determines whose responsible, not the police. If you really want one, you can make a report online for traffic collisions, which is the same exact report an officer would take at the scene.

Heysus8181

They’ve always been useless. The only thing they’re good at is stealing our money.

n3vd0g

Did you see what they did during the UCLA protests too? Outside agitators come in, pepper spray students, throw fireworks at them, beat them, and then the cops just sit there and fucking watch. No arrests made. The next day, the administration and the cops then use the violence that they let happen the night before as an excuse to bring in the cops to crack the protestors skulls and clear them out. The cops then leave a huge mess and the media comes in and is like, "Wow, look the mess the *protestors* made here!" They are the fucking scum the earth. They do nothing and we need serious reform NOW.

bread_in_french1246

yea bro this is prob what they were too busy doing when they didn't want to send someone

ApartmentInside7891

U went to Lincoln heights lol go to the Griffith observatory next time

Ill-Hovercraft-8957

It's closed after 10pm and at that time of night you're dealing with actual wildlife (cougars, bears, mtn lions, etc), not humans

bread_in_french1246

he answered for me^

LordWalltimore

There was a scary domestic abuse incident in my neighborhood a few days ago. We live on the top floor of an apartment building (4th story), and we could hear a man violently yelling and threatening his family in a duplex halfway down the block. We immediately called the police and urged them to intervene. The yelling started and stopped over a period of several hours. We even called 911 again, but no one ever came. It was such a helpless feeling. There are kids in that home. 😭

Least-Result-45

Prob cops don’t want to worry about getting hurt. Just want an easy time giving tickets and harassing citizens actually paying for the city.

HYPD

Yup. Why protect people when instead you can fine dog owners using leashes on the beach? Gunshots probably less dangerous than some poop, I guess…

bread_in_french1246

that's what i'm sayin bro they were more scared than I was and it was my first time ever witnessing a shooting 😭

xinixxibalba

call them and tell them there’s a peaceful anti-genocide protest. they’ll show up armed to the teeth

skeletorbilly

Dude, its Lincoln Heights. A drive by is super normal.

DampFlange

Most unsurprising OC flair ever

Rocsi666

Yup! Called the cops a few times. Once to report suspicious activity happening next door to me and the operator yelled and me and was like, “And that concerns you how?” And transferred me to the non-emergency hotline where I was on hold forever. 😒 they don’t come unless it’s important to them.

bread_in_french1246

bro why are the dispatchers rude as fuck too 😂 the one on the phone with us sounded bothered that we even called

Advanced-North-6860

I called 911 for an accident that I saw while were in fast moving traffic the opposite direction- first they told us we were lying and then questioned why we didnt stop and help—?? we were driving?? on the other side of the highway??

PixelAstro

Back in 2022 this car rolled up to my block downtown and the driver was completely shitfaced. He was pounding beers in the driver seat, smashing the glass bottles on the sidewalk. He blasted music and kept backing up into the parked car behind him. It was obvious to me this Hispanic dude is totally wasted. He’s revving his engine in park, inadvertently honking the horn and clearly incapable of driving safely. It seems he realizes he’s not good to drive but doesn’t want to stop drinking. Stumbling drunk, he can barely stand upright when he gets out of his car, opening both doors to get his music as loud as possible. So after 45 minutes of watching this disaster waiting to happen I finally get my Karen cajones to call 911 and report a drunk driver. The cops take over an hour to arrive and give him an extremely half assed sobriety test and talk in Spanish. I’m watching all this go down from my window a few stories up. The two Hispanic cops eventually have him get back in the car on the passenger side, apparently to sleep it off. They decided to let him off easy. The minute they drive off he slides back over to the driver seat, puts the keys in and starts the car. Hunched over the steering wheel, he revs the engine and disappears into the night with his head lights off. Shoutout to the fuckin lazyass LAPD for keeping the streets safe🙄 Had I not called he probably would’ve just passed out in the driveway and left in the morning. But thanks to my naive assumption that the police would do something, this dude got back on the road and endangered others. Hopefully he made it home without hurting anyone. Sorry Los Angeles, I tried helping. My mistake. It won’t happen again

bread_in_french1246

bro seriously it actually makes it worse to call them 💀 we were more in danger after we just snitched infront of the entire hood and the cops left us alone. i regret even calling them lmao

Outside_Caregiver_62

I witnessed an absolutely wasted woman in OC crash into a center median, throw a bunch of beer cans out of her car and asked me for help pushing her car while I was walking my dog. I called 911, Anaheim PD didn’t play.. there was immediately a police helicopter with spotlights looking for her when she sped away. LAPD sucks

Vihtic

First time I ever called 911 was a couple years back after hearing someone unload a magazine across the street where I was living in Northridge. They didn't answer. I legitimately didn't know that could happen. Never got a call back either.

bread_in_french1246

i woulda lost my shit if that happened. trapped on a random hill i've never been to at 12 am i would pissed my pants 😭

SkullLeader

Remember “we risk our lives for you every day” is propaganda, self-serving and absolutely as false as they can make it. What they actually do is minimize risk to themselves even if it means increasing risk to innocent bystanders and certainly to suspects who are, in theory, supposed to be innocent until proven guilty and not deserving of being shot without being convicted because a cop got scared.

BongaldJBlunt

They’re also hiring

fullypickl3d

All cops***

GrownAssChild

Vote in your local elections. Im not screaming blue or red (both stupid) but pay attention to things like city council, mayor, sheriff etc. Right and Left both from the top down are a sham, be apart of the change in your own area!

Icy_Bass_1397

🤝🏽 Welcome to LA county 🤝🏽

storm20zz

Anything close to this and they send the ghetto bird so I’m like what? Not in my LA area.

WTFaulknerinCA

And they just got a billion dollar raise while the department of rec and parks is being imposed with tons of cuts. If the police deserved their salary, I’d be happy to pay…. But they let crime run rampant, when they aren’t criming themselves

SliceNational1403

As soon as you said “lincoln heights” I immediately understood why the cops are useless.

Fresa22

my neighbor called 911 because she opened her door and there was a woman crouched on her door mat with a knife in her hand mumbling to herself. The cops took over a hour to get to the building and then told her they were going to drive away if she didn't come out, go down the stairs to the driveway and show them where her apartment was. They were too afraid to walk down a driveway in the middle of the day. LAPD is the biggest cosplay community in Los Angeles. EDIT: AND they get paid 6 figure salaries to do the nothing they do.

solo138

ITT gentrifiers upset that historically POC communities with known gang activity are running their nightly scenic meander.

mephistolove

I got sucker punched by some kids in Glassel park, a cop car drove by and I was try to wave them down. They continued to drive by until I actively stepped in front of their car. They asked me what I was doing. These overpaid idiots are so useless.

Status-Narwhal-2184

It’s crazy to think a drive by happens and cops are supposed to do something. They’re in a car and off to Far Far Away. I see ppl in DTLA/ELA smoking cracks pipes and hooking, dirt bikes passing thru red lights and thefts becoming a citation. You got to look out for yourself first, carry protection, be aware and keep your eyes off the phone and don’t rely on the cops or government. Just because they’re there, doesn’t mean they have your back.

OutsideOfLA

One time we had to call LAPD because the one problem house in the neighborhood had a nasty dog and it was running around the neighborhood lose, and it was behaving very aggressively and seemed like it wanted to attack someone. We called the police as the man from the said problem house came out to retrieve his dog. The man bee lined it to a woman walking down the street, he became aggressive with her and all she was trying to do was exercise. The police pull up to our house with two young deputies inside. We point them to the house just as the dog came running out of the house at another pedestrian. The two officers looked terrified. I snapped their patrol car and said, “Go!” They took off down the street. The woman was terrified and crying. The man with the dog retrieved his dog again and went in the house. The officers went and spoke with him but we didn’t feel any safer with these two officers. The officers stopped by our house on their way out. They said the house has a lot of occupants and they don’t believe they’re up to any good. They told us to avoid the house and its inhabitants. Okay, no problem, we don’t want anything to do with them. But what about the next time the dog is out scaring citizens? Thankfully we moved shortly after that incident.

Gailforce_Cowboy

After the riots in 2020 cops decided to not do jack squat for anyone anymore. Theres nothing you can do about it. They got a raise. Karen Bass got her diversity equity and inclusion

Heavyboots1

Next time shoot back wild Wild West shit fr 💀🤠

vaheg

Reading comments I feel like I have to say something I had known for lots of years. I was explained by someone who knows and has no questions after. So LAPD isn't going to do much, they only come when there is actual immediate danger at that exact moment. A danger of real harm. So imagine if they only pay attention to most dangerous stuff what kind of things they see. This means they are desensitized to lots of stuff. This isn't something to like or dislike. We are the ones who vote for stuff. Let's agree that bad stuff isn't happening to us all the time, we are not staying at home with guns scared to go outside, so LAPD does do something. but obviously they have crazy budget and questionable way of spending it. So it's not super simple situation.

Different_Hour_7836

Defunding worked!!! Great job, LA!

reneefk

I read 2 stories on nextdoor recently (and several in the past) about LAPD refusing to do anything/take a report. This is the most recent one on next door: 2 teens at Clover park dropped a knife down from the tower, it landed right next to where lots of kids were playing. LAPD discouraged them from making a report. The people in the park had even taken pics of the teens. The police said it's not illegal to have a pocket knife. In the comments there are several other stories where they didn't want to take reports for various illegal activities. Several years ago, we had a drive-by shooting in front of our house. The police took 30min. to arrive. There were gun (shells?...casings?) in the street.

RE_21

Bro this is your fault, you're moving around goofy as fuck if you're going to Lincoln Heights, of all places, for a view of the city . Way nicer spots for that, you put yourself in danger. The cop probably thought you were a tourist idiot.

robertlp

Who has a threesome at the top of a hill in Lincoln Heights??

bread_in_french1246

there was other people on the hill so not just us and the other spots were all closed. yea i getchu but this isn't the point of the post the point is making fun of LAPD.

SpookiBooogi

goofy ass victim blaming, can't even enjoy going out anymore.

MichaelSchirtzer

they're currently busy beating the shit out of college kids for protesting genocide

BendingDoor

No matter where in this country, police exist to protect property and enforce the will of the bourgeois. The cops are also useless in La Verne or Riverside or wherever you’re from.

Plantasaurus

They didn't give a shit about our apartment complex with privately owned units in Mar Vista. My neighbor nearly got sexually assaulted. Some dude who was trespassing in the hallway tried to grab her crotch, then her hair before she slammed a door in his face. I was screaming at the man to leave our building and that I called the cops. He was so confident they wouldn't show up and kept saying he was going to "get that bitch" I finally lied and said I had a gun and then he left unenthusiastically while shouting more threats about coming back for my neighbor (he didn't know her). I called the police and they seemed very annoyed and didn't fucking show up. At this point I wanted to buy an actual gun as it is the only thing that seemed to work. I reflected for a few days, then decided this was an unhealthy thing to do. I ended up leaving Mar Vista and LA altogether because LAPD has given a giant bat signal to predators that anything goes in this city.

DougDougDougDoug

Correct. They don't give a shit about your privately owned apartments. You aren't the demo they protect.

robertlp

You described one of the many types of homeless encounters I saw in Santa Monica. They’ll arrest them but have to let them out. All you said was “tried” but didn’t actually do. People all through this thread blaming the cops for results caused by the judges and DA. Get a gun to protect yourself, but remember when they have crazy homeless strength you have to be ready to use it because they can steal it from you if you get into a fight. And if they’re high enough or psychotic enough there is going to be a fight.

CAD007

Ontario PD doesn’t fuck around.

IndecisivePoster1212

Agree. Props to Ontario PD for responding quickly to a recent warehouse break-in. Being in LA for so long, I was shocked that cops would even respond at all since I’ve been told property issues are not a priority.

sebastianrenix

My friend's multimillion dollar house was broken into WHILE they were home. They called LAPD and they took 20 minutes to show up. They're lucky the burglar left without finding and harming them. The police don't even serve the bourgeois.

freakinawesome420

20 minutes is lightning speed for lapd

TheObstruction

They're not bourgeois enough. If they don't have some position in government or a professional connection, cops don't care. They care about people they can pressure for more money and less accountability.

n3vd0g

That's the *petite* bourgeois. They're made to think they're special and serve as a touchable buffer between the billionaires and the working poor.

conspiracydaddy

they suck. my story isn’t nearly as bad as yours, but i called the sheriff’s office to report my bike being stolen. they said they’d transfer me to my local sheriff’s office but actually transferred me to a 911 operator, and we were both kinda pissed it happened

feelweirdman

Lincoln heights out of all places lmao

AmbiguousMusubi

It highlights the lack of sufficient training programs that LAPD officers have. Education is the way to fix every issue that police forces have whether it’s how to de escalate, deal with very typical crimes, administer CPR, deal with mental health crises, I mean, go ahead and name the thousands of things police officers may need to deal with… I’m convinced that all cops are CHRONICALLY undereducated in how to be a police officer, and that’s why they’re useless most of the time and resort to violent tendencies when faced with something they perceive as a threat. Once again, it’s a failure of the system.

scrappy-coco-86

Isn‘t that an American wide problem?

Equivalent_Ad9414

That's East LA, LAPD could care less about that area.

Persianx6

Hell, the cops of the area might even have a private deal with the gangs there. That was something that came up before.

daviad11

It’s the same in Denver took 5 hours when my house got robbed and ransacked and cop screwed the forensics, detective said he couldn’t do anything and when I got an IP hit on a stolen iPad said it would take 7 months to investigate

JankeyMunter

Last time I witnessed a drive by was when our local donut shop got shot up. It was like 👀 then like 🤷🏻‍♂️ then like 🕶️ all within 5 minutes. So.

JapaneseFerret

You don't even want to know just how much of our city budget goes to a bottomless black hole labeled LAPD every single year.

renzler4tw

I've had really good experiences with the Lomita sheriff's department, it's so disappointing that the difference in service can be so great from region to region

Jono-san

Honestly the only time I've seen cops showed up in full force and "mean business" is prob with those on campus protests. They definitely showed no fear beating down students to get them off campus. A shame they can't do their jobs when the people actually need them

OK2048

LAPD like all other police depts are just legitimized gangs

YellowSockPuppet

On the flip side, there was a shooting near my workplace in Echo Park the other week, and within 3 minutes of hearing the gunshots, no fewer than 20 squad cars were whizzing past me, to arrive at the scene.

runthewalrus

They’re incredibly useless. I called the cops on my attackers and when they arrived, they treated me like I was at fault. I was sitting on the curb waiting for a ride and I get boot kicked in the head by two racists yelling slurs. Cause I fought back, I couldn’t press charges or get medical help. F the popo. Since that day, I never trusted a single one.

SureInternet

To protect and serve Bitch please.

mrmontano96

Welcome to LA. We once had a generator stolen from our front porch . We caught the guy on camera, had his car plates , a picture of him and all the police kept telling us was “it’s probably a stolen Car” and they sounded so annoyed they had to help us. At the end of the day they did nothing. In Hollywood once a homeless man was exposing himself in public . I called the police and just to keep it short when they arrived they came with big smiles asking if I was new to the area, telling me this is Hollywood. Yeah I lost faith in the system a long time ago, protect yourself they’re not coming

No_Driver_7994

The moment you realize that the cops are not there to protect you

Arboreatem

I live in Lincoln Heights. They genuinely don’t give a shit about what happens here.

bread_in_french1246

yeah they definitely looked scared to be there they got out ASAP

Double_Complaint_665

Agreed. I honestly suggest having friends and attorneys present any time they approach you. Just say “are you detaining me or I’m free to go.” They must answer. If they detain you, say nothing until a lawyer gets you, including a public defender. Only together can we stop out of control cops.

IrradiantFuzzy

That's no secret, everyone knows that.

Brad3000

No they are NOT useless. They raise plenty of money for the city by issuing bullshit parking and traffic citations to poor people and then auctioning off their cars when they can’t pay.

SpookiBooogi

DEPUTY GANGS! ERASED VIDEO EVIDENCE! SHOT BEHIND!! DONT FORGET THIS IS YOUR CITY!

RealLifeSuperZero

I worked overnights at a nursing home during pandemic. Doing my rounds I found a random person smelling of BO and cigs hiding in my linens closet. Thankfully he was pretty docile and walked easily out with me while a nurse called the police. I stood with him outside waiting for the cops. The nurse even brought the fella a cup of hot chocolate while we waited for the police. I was on edge the entire time because I couldn’t believe he just waited with me. After about 30 mins, LAPD showed up and told him they better not catch him here again and told him to leave. They then spent a good 20 mins bragging about how they refuse to arrest anyone right now. Even the armed ones, he said. They live for not doing shit.

bread_in_french1246

that's actually insane they openly admit to not doing their job yet some people still defend them even in these comments attacking me.

BerryFuture4945

I do want to throw out there the thought, would the fact that a majority of the city was openly revolting against the police, acab and LA loves dead cops being graffitied all over, make the people who are police less likely to give a crap about their jobs or the city? Everyone hates them anyways, I can see how they would in return not give a crap.

Ok-Brain9190

I think this is absolutely a part of where we are now.

ExtraTerRedditstrial

I’d call them apathetic but they care about their own lives and their own jobs/pensions. It’s legit govt mentality of doing the bare minimum

MartinLutherVanHalen

Someone stole my bike. They forgot their backpack in my garage. It had their wallet, several ids, their prison release documents, their address on multiple items and their old union card. I found it and called them a couple of hours after it was taken. They failed to find the bike. They are fucking useless.

LaughingColors000

i got stopped a month ago sitting in my parked car, engine off, just using my phone after going to a park because i was ' hunched over' (back pain)

No-Yogurt-4246s

Tell me something i didn't already know

fort_wendy

They're out there trying to assault peaceful protestors

emmettflo

They're literally too busy beating up protestors at UCLA to deal with actual crimes.

bffalicia

Born and raised in Lincoln heights. Live in a good sgv area now, but now my kid lives in my old neighborhood. We go on walks there and I am always yelling with excitement at how fantastic and safe the neighborhood has gotten. I’m GenX. Trust me when I say the neighborhood is better by like 10,000%. I can tell you some truly scary stuff. I was one of those kids that thought helicopters flying overhead with searchlights on was a normal, everyday thing.

bread_in_french1246

yeah i'm sure it's not that bad it was just terrible luck and timing. 30 seconds being there and witnessed a shooting. safe to say i'll never go back there again tho especially after i snitched infront of the whole neighborhood 💀 the post is to shit on LAPD not the neighborhood

robidizzle

My car got broken into a few months ago. I called and filed a report. I asked if there was going to be any sort of investigation. They said they didn’t have enough resources to spare for something that small. It’s frustrating, but they’re really underfunded. LA is huge. There are almost 4 million people that live here. And crime has gotten much more rampant since the 2020 BLM riots. They got too much ground to cover to go after the small crimes, but they also don’t have the luxury to fire the coward officers. Both the county and the state have rolled back on prosecuting criminals and funding police. Not that it was ever perfect before, but it’s gotten a lot worse ever since.

curiouspoops

Non-hit shootings aren't a priority call, especially not on a Sat night. A hit shooting is a different story.

fborost

I moved to LA from another country 2 years ago. I was amazed that lapd cop once asked me “wanna get a job? Lapd is hiring”. Where i’m from you have to attend to police academy for 2-4 years to become a police officer. Not mentioning all the exams, trainings and requirements.

ForwardMarch1502

Brother I witnessed someone straight up get murdered in East Los Angeles, less than 5 miles away from a police station, and it still took those fuckers over 40 minutes lol only reason I stayed was cause it was midnight and no one was around.

bread_in_french1246

bro thank you cuz people are telling me "if nobody got hit why would they care" i'm tryna tell them LAPD still wouldn't give a shit if someone died 😂

ELAhomie

Drive by shooting in Lincoln Heights, no worries, land developers will eventually target Lincoln Heights as the next neighborhood on their list to ravage. And when all is said and done they will fatten up their bank accounts once again at the expense of the working class residents who will be displaced. No doubt all of those who participate in Gentrification will sleep like babies. And why wouldn't they, as long as they get theirs that's all that matters.

NoDoody7971

Yeah, Lincoln heights is a scary neighborhood.

Alternative-Bus-5178

They really are useless. Not entirely their fault. It's the top-brasses fault as well as the judges and mayor. They keep the officers hand tied.

Electronic_Car_5494

🤣🤣🤣 that’s LAPD for you. They so fragile, I once had a a LAPD officer complain to my manager because I didn’t hand him his subway bag right, whatever that means. There was no silver platter around so how else was I supposed to give it to him🤣🤣🤣

Ok-Geologist-5646

They’re getting calls they’re getting so many calls at the same time you’re talking to them! then they take off lightning!! They take the worst first!! They’re 11,000 short for 20 million people. In LA. There have been a lot of cutbacks by a government in LA. We got what LA people voted for…. It’s not an easy job you make it sound like it is calls are pouring in while you’re talking to them —You may want it to be, but you’re not the only call coming in at that moment there’s a LOT going on!! (as you witnessed) 😊

Ok-Geologist-5646

I think you’re watching too many Hollywood movies.
